Firstly, a huge thank you to the author, Robert Herrick, and Goodreads for the privilege of a digital copy of Cryptids I won in a giveaway. I will also be posting this review to Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Cryptids is a kooky, fun space adventure story focused on a 12-year-old boy named Alex. There's lots of fun action and adventure scenes, and will interest kids from ages 8-13 who are into sci-fi/science fiction, fantasy, action/adventure, kids with "jobs," strange and creepy creatures, aliens, space exploration, and AI and technology. Overall, reminded me of a fun, vintage sci-fi film. I had a great time reading this book! It's definitely something I would've kept on my shelf and re-read as a preteen.

There were a few moments in which I thought Cryptids could've been enhanced. There are a few abrupt transitions between scenes at times, and I found myself having to reorient myself. However, I think kids will be mostly focused on the action and adventure, as well as the character development of Alex and CARL (really a huge strength), and this will fall by the side. I did really like the space scenes and the spaceship; these were very fun. Maybe some more descriptions of the setting would've grounded me a bit more. The strong character of Alex and the fun adventure elements make this an intriguing and entertaining book worth reading. I'd be interested in what further adventures Alex may find himself in.
