A colorful and engaging picture book that will entertain the entire family!
Kit Kat is the grandmother of the narrator—Zoey—and her cousins, Zeek and Zeph. She has invited her grandchildren to her house for 'Kit Kat Camp' this summer.
When the trio arrives at Kit Kat's home, she informs them that they'll be doing new things at camp. That sounds fun to the youngsters until she tells them the one rule they must follow at camp . . . no electronics!
As the shock of this rule wore off, they soon start whining and trying to change her mind to give them at least a little bit of time of their electronics each day. Kit Kat stands firm.
The next morning Kit Kat encourages the children to use their imaginations to think of ways to use recyclable materials and craft supplies to create something to use to go on an adventure in space. As the children begin brainstorming ideas their enthusiasm increases dramatically. They make their rocket ships and create new memories while taking a trip to space. That evening the four of them go outside to count stars in the night sky.
Illustrations hint at three more adventures the cousins take as the week goes on. A surprise twist at the end of the story will make readers of all ages smile.
The author's warm, welcoming, affectionate tone makes this a 'read it again' picture book for children in pre-school through primary grades. The illustrations are bright and colorful and will engage youngsters and stimulate their own desire to create some of the projects shown in the book.
This book is completely clean in language and content. I received a copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.
With Kit Kat anything is possible, especially when she encourages her grandchildren to use their imaginations to fill their days and enrich their minds. Your own child might be inspired to create something for themselves after reading this fun story full of wonder.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! A trip without gadgets! Brilliant. I just hope there is a follow up book that has them come home and shared the valuable lesson that was learned!!! This book needs to be read to kids before they get too inundated by gadgets and I hope they enjoy this as much as us grownups!!!
A vibrant picture book about the power of unplugging and using your imagination.
A young girl is excited to visit her grandmother "Kit Kat" and while they are there, Kit Kat encourages the youngster to turn off their electronics and find a more organic kind of fun, by using their imaginations! And oh, the adventures they have! The illustrations are colorful and appealing to children, with a slight Japanese art influence.
Overall, this is a fun, upbeat picture book. Great as a read aloud, and I liked how it encourages finding fun the old-fashioned way and putting down the screens. Good clean fun, and positive family relationships!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Childrens Picture Books are always an interesting genre as they almost always have a "lesson" to teach the little ones. Kit Kat Camp: No Electronics by Kathy Dixon Dye is the latest book in this genre that I enjoyed.
I really enjoyed this book from the Title Page. I could tell from the Title Page that there would be a lot of imagination and a lesson in this book and there most definitely was. Kids in society are so connected to Devices, TV's and so many electronics, including Electronic toys from a very early age. Kit Kat Camp is a picture book and story about how Grandma takes her grandchildren on an adventure. The adventure requires Imaginative Play, creating memories, and enjoying their childhood ALL WITHOUT Electronics. I have heard of Grandparents doing a week of "Cousins Camp" with their Grandkids, and this story gave me those feelings. Many Kids nowadays are lacking Imaginative Play skills because of Electronics .I feel this is an important Picture book for children everywhere. This book is FUN, Encouraging, Family Orientated, and Life Skills teaching. I HIGHLY recommend this book for kids 4-8. GREAT BOOK!
Join Zeph, Zeek, and Zoey for a type of cousin’s camp as they spend time with Grandma Kit Kat. (I only learned Zoey’s name by reading the front of her apron. It would have been good had the author introduced her in some way as well.)
I appreciated the storyline, as we see kids learning to use their imaginations by putting aside electronics. We also see the reality of how difficult that was for them at first. But in now way was this story preachy. Kit Kat simply challenged the kids to give using their imaginations a try and then gave them the tools to work with.
The illustrations are large and colorful, sure to encourage the youngest ones to look at them. And the text is simple for early readers. A win both ways, I highly recommend Kit Kat Camp; No Electronics.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
A week without devices, that doesn’t sound fun. But that is just what Kit Kat has planned for her 3 grandchildren and by the end of the week, they don’t even miss them. The story is full of the adventures they have without ever turning on their electronics. The book could be an inspiration for parents or grandparents to try something similar. Kathy Dixon Dye created both the story and the illustrations. The brightly colored illustrations complement the text week and even go beyond the storyline. Kit Kat Camp No Electronics would be a great addition to a K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for preschool and up. It could even be used with older children. I received a complimentary copy of Kit Kat Camp No Electronics. This is my honest review.
I love the premise of this picture book. Nowadays all you see is kids obsessed with electronics. Even in out household we limit the amount of time that our own kiddos use electronics and we make sure that they spend more time off than on! I really enjoyed that Kit Kat is started no electronics in her camp and made sure that kids used their imagination which in turn opened up a whole new world for the kids and they enjoyed their summer immensely.
My kiddos loved the colorful illustrations and easy to read words. I definitely recommend you grab this book especially if you have a kiddo that enjoys electronics a little too much!
I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
What a great idea of putting electronics away. I think many parents like me, struggle with balancing screen time in a time of technology. When I read this to my daughters my middle child spoke of how she would love for her grandma to adopt this idea. A week without phones or ipads in exchange with time spent in crafts, nature, cousins, and grandparents. It makes me want to adopt it as well. While we have a curfew and don’t allow them to be on anything before breakfast, I see the benefits of removing it altogether. This book with vibrant colors and beautiful illustrations flows with creativity, imagination, while encouraging your child to do the same.
I had fun reading this book! The story follows a loving grandmother who brings her grandchildren to a camp where they engage in a variety of activities without the distraction of electronics. It’s a wonderful way to teach children the importance of limiting their gadget use and exploring the many ways to have fun beyond screens. The narrative emphasizes how we can use our imagination to entertain ourselves, create meaningful experiences, and bond with family—much like the characters do—while also enhancing our creativity.
Kit Kat Camp (No Electronics) is a fun, educational and entertaining Children's book written to inspire young readers to surrender their electronics and enjoy nurturing their imagination and curiosity. It takes readers on an exciting adventure to space, where they learn about the planets and our galaxy. The vibrant illustrations brilliantly capture the wonder of space and other imaginary concepts. I highly recommend this book to parents, grandparents, educators and elementary school librarians.
Kit Kat Camp--No Electronics by Kathy Dye is a much needed book during this era when children are on electronics far too long and far too often. It tells the story of how a wise grandmother invited her grandchildren to stay at her house for a week and how she planned some to have exciting times using their imaginations and doing fun adventures without electronics. The illustrations are also clever and help tell the story.
My favorite part of the book is that the children left their gadgets to learn fun things without them. There is so much to learn! We all (including adults) could miss so much that we would actually love if we weren't distracted by the electronics. The illustrations were awesome as well! I loved the little faces on the kids when they realized that they weren't going to be using their devices-I "laughed out loud!"
Kids in this generation are surrounded and attached to gadgets. I believe that when young readers read this book they will be enlightened that they could live without gadgets. Just like Kit Kat, she encourages the children to use their imaginations and creativity to enjoy their stay at the camp. This book will teach the readers that the world has so many beautiful things to offer them, they just have to explore and enjoy being kids.
When the children arrived at their Grandmother's house they are appalled to discover Grandma was banning their devices for the week! Instead they build a spaceship and use their imaginations to visit the stars, they visit the pool and spend a day swimming, and each day is packed with great activities. Honestly, an electronics break is sound advice for today's kids. Great character design and a good story is five stars!
This delightful children’s book delivers an important message about the power of creativity and the joy of unplugging from technology. With warm, engaging illustrations and a playful narrative, the story encourages kids to embrace the world beyond their screens. Grandma’s wisdom shines through as she reminds her grandchildren—and young readers—that the best kind of fun is often the kind you create yourself. Recommend!
"Kit Kat Camp" touches a timely topic that can lead to further discussion about electronics and imagination! An optimistic and enthusiastic story that is sure to speak to lots of children! Great illustrations that add to the storyline. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Kathy Dye has created a magical world where imagination reigns supreme. Kit Kat Camp is an inspiring tale that encourages children to explore and dream beyond the confines of screens. The storytelling is engaging, and the illustrations bring Kit Kat’s adventures to life. Highly recommended for young readers and their families.
Parents and grandparents grow tired of watching their kids using electronic devices all morning and night.,"Why do you always have to play with your devices to have fun? When I was your age, we used our imagination and had fun playing with other kids outside. If we wanted to dance and there was no partner, we'd dance with a broom. This book, though colorfully illustrated, didn't excite me.
A must-read for children and parents alike. Kit-Kat is an extraordinary grandmother who takes a monumental decision to teach her grandkids how to enjoy life without being constantly tied to technology (gadgets and online games). She instils creativity and a sense of adventure in her grandchildren. A valuable lesson for children today.
Kit Kat Camp No Electronics is just what we need today! What a fun way to show children they do not need electronics to have fun. This book reminds me of how creative I was as a child and what a gift it is to share that creativity with little ones. We all should be so blessed to have our own Kit Kat! I highly recommend this book for families. Five Stars!
Kit Kat Camp (No Electronics) is a charming book encouraging children to explore and enjoy the real adventure of using their own imagination. With lovely illustrations, and a fun Kit Kat grandmother, it is certain to inspire families and children to put aside the electronics and actually play.
I enjoyed this fun and imiginative story about some cousins coming together at Gramndma'shouse for an eciting week together. The illustrations were beautifully done and really enhanced the story. I loved the theme of no electronics.
“Kit Kat Camp No Electonics’ is an adorable picture book by Kathy Dixon Dye. The grandkids are so excited to visit Grandma/Kit Kat , but when she says no electronics! What will they do? No spoilers here, but get ready for imagination and fun. I highly recommend this picture book.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
