Jolie Prescott has always been in love with love. She spent most of her life walking around with hearts in her eyes and immediately jumped at the chance to start a wedding planning company with her two best friends. So when her own fiancé called off their wedding and immediately started dating someone else, it was a major blow she never saw coming. The gossip about it finally starts to die down in her small town. Then her ex announced he’s engaged again. And his new fiancée just happens to be Jolie’s worst enemy. Which makes it really inconvenient that she can’t seem to stop thinking inappropriate thoughts about that woman’s moody half-brother.
He is the ultimate grump.
Vaughn Cavanagh never thought he’d set foot back in Pembrooke, Wyoming after moving away when he was thirteen, but when his father gets sick, he uproots his life to try to repair their frayed relationship. The only thing standing in his way is his spoiled brat half-sister, her determination to throw the ultimate wedding, and her beef with a certain wedding photographer he can’t get out of his head.
When one impulsive act leads to Vaughn announcing he and Jolie are dating, the two have no choice but to fake their relationship to save face. But when feelings enter the picture and lines start to blur, Vaughn has to decide if he’s willing to give up his quiet, solitary life and stay in Pembrooke for a woman he never intended to fall for, or if he’s going to risk losing everything because he’s too afraid to take that leap.
Born and raised around Houston, Jessica is a self proclaimed caffeine addict, connoisseur of inexpensive wine, and the worst driver in the state of Texas. In addition to being all of these things, she’s first and foremost a wife and mom. Growing up, she shared her mom and grandmother’s love of reading. But where they leaned toward murder mysteries, Jessica was obsessed with all things romance. When she’s not nose deep in her next manuscript, you can usually find her with her kindle in hand.

This was a lovely small town, grumpy sunshine, fake dating, Billionare romance! Haha! I think I fit everything in there. I devoured this in one sitting and I am very curious about the rest of the series now. Yes, this was another series where I jumped in with both feet when I got a shot at the audio book. I've been doing that a lot this year and it has been great for or introducing me to authors I've never heard of.
Vaughn and Jolie have a few rough run-ins at the beginning of their acquaintance. One of which ends with an awkward confrontation with Jolie's ex-fiance and Vaughn's spoiled younger half-sister. This encounter somehow leads to the whole town thinking they are dating. Which they end up continuing to perpetuate which leads to them spending more time together.
They both are a bit gun shy about relationships. Though Jolie definitely isn't giving up completely. Weddings are her business, after all. But Vaughn doesn't believe in marriage after the disaster that was his parents.
However, the more time they spend together, the more their chemistry grows. The more they learn about the other, the deeper they fall. There are a few missteps and a miscommunication or two, but overall, these two were very sweet. I also loved the supporting cast and if the book didn't end so abruptly, it would have been a perfect book for me!
Performed to perfection by Andi Arndt & Christian Fox. They made the story just fly by and I highly recommend you listen to this book if you are so inclined. I will absolutely read or listen to another one from Jessica Prince.
4 stars 3 on the spice scale

*Thank you to Must Love Audio and the author for an ALC of this title.*
This was my first book by Jessica Prince, and she’s now at the top of my list of new-to-me authors who I can’t wait to read more of. It’s part of her Pembrooke series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I absolutely love Josie and Vaughn. Jolie is so relatable, and the perfect mix of sass and sweet. She has a big heart, but isn’t afraid to stand up for herself and put people in their place when necessary. Vaughn is the biggest grump and doesn’t like anyone (until he gets to know Jolie). His history with his family is heartbreaking and it’s easy to see why he is the way he is, but it added such a great storyline. Their crazy meet cute and enemies to lovers vibes set their relationship up in the most perfect way. I was giddy, blushing, and swooning the whole way through, and love my new book boyfriend. I also have a new favorite nickname - Calamity. I love the way Jessica dealt with the with the events with Jolie’s ex-fiancé. This part of the story wasn’t over the top enough to make my blood boil but added just enough drama. I’m sure we all know someone like him and it’s always great when characters get what they deserve. I was laughing hysterically every time Vaughn called him by the wrong name.
The audiobook is incredible, I will listen to anything performed by Andi Arndt and Christian Fox to begin with, but they’re such a great pairing together, and were amazing at bringing Jolie and Vaughn to life 👏🏼 Listen if you like: 🤍Fake/Revenge Dating 🍃Obsessed Millionaire MMC 🤍Age Gap 🍃Small Town 🤍Amazing Side Characters 🍃Grumpy x Sunshine 🤍Dual POV
How is it that I can’t really dislike Vaughn? Not even for a little bit. He’s cold, harsh, rigid, and…utterly faking it. He’s learned to hide his true self and has done it for so long that he’s thrown for a whole rollercoaster full of loops when Real Vaughn starts pushing past his walls. I mean, he’s a guy. So he says dumb things or doesn’t react as he should sometimes. But he’s learning. He’s figuring out who he is, who he wants, and who he loves. It helps that he has two people in his corner no matter what. Well, more than two, but two that he knows of, for sure.
And Jolie? She’s fantastic. She’s taken a hit to the ego, but she’s strong. She just needs someone to convince her that she is truly worth so much more. Enter Vaughn and his grumpy, coffee-coated ways. This man helps her find the confidence and pep she let slip for a little while, and he gives one heck of a grovel when he makes a mistake.
I loved this story so much that I managed to plow through it in one sitting, so get comfortable. Because I foresee you doing the same.
My first Jessica Prince book but it certainly won’t be my last because I need to backlist the rest of this series ASAP !!! This was such a quick, fun, small town, fake dating, billionaire x wedding planner romance ! Vaughn is back to his hometown of Pembrooke and is feeling more out of place than ever but is trying to make it work for his father . Jolie has been in Pembrooke for almost her whole life but life looks a little different now that her ex-fiancé called off the wedding .. and is engaged to someone else now . This unlikely pair keep having the most spill-tacular meet cutes but the enemies to lovers is extra heavy on the enemies part for a while lol . The two of them end up picking each other in the end but the family drama they have to maneuver before then is a war zone .
This is book 4 in the Pembrooke series and it can be read as a complete standalone .
This audiobook was given to me for honest review by Must Love Audio .
This fourth book in the Pembrooke series was so good.I loved the back and forth between Jolie and Vaughn. The development of the characters definitely kept my interest, as I couldn't wait to see how their relationship developed. These characters had a connection, which resulted in a relationship that led them to fake dating, while Jolie was planning her ex-fiancees wedding. The main characters brought so much to this book, Jolie was sassy and could handle anything, even a grumpy millionaire. Vaughn was a strong character who didn't hold back, they matched perfectly.
Vaughn and Jolie have to pretend they are together for awhile but feelings get in the way. There is nothing like a book that is written by this author. The detail, the chemistry and the writing everything is top notch and I fall in love every single time.
I loved this book!! Jolie and Vaughn’s story was so much fun. Their meet cute was hilarious and how they came to be fake dating was also great. I loved Jolie’s besties (please write their stories Jess) and loved being back in the town. The story was well written and I couldn’t put it down. If you’re a fan of small town romance pick it up asap!
Jessica Prince went back to Pembrooke with her new book SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME. It's the 4th book of the Pembrooke Series and the very first book of this series for me.
Why I haven't read the other 3 books yet? I'm not sure... big mistake. LOL Although I'd say you can absolutely read Should Have Been Me as a standalone. 😉 So, don't worry if you're like me. (But yeah, I'll definitely wanna read the other books, too!)
Anyway! Back to Jolie and Vaughn! 🥰🫠
Jolie and Vaughn. It's more like sunny calamity and grumpy jerk. Their first encounter? Well, let's say it wasn't that pleasant. He almost killed her cat, and then her cat almost killed him... But it couldn't get any worse, or could it?!
Awwwwwwww!!! Jolie and Vaughn, Vaughn and Jolie. OMG, I laughed so much when they met each other for the first time. 🤣 Well, their chemistry was definitely palpable! Right from the beginning - from hate to acceptance to mooooore... Okay, I'd say it's not a real spoiler because if you've read the books of Jessica Prince before, you know there's a HEA guaranteed!!! 🥰😊 Jolie has to heal her wounds after a nasty break-up, and Vaughn is surprisingly there to help her. I didn't see it coming, but I absolutely loved it. Both characters were easily loveable! I fell instantly in love with both. They way they treated each other. Cat and dog. Sunshine and grumpy. LOOOL! Perfect! But besides all the funny banter, there's also a lot of emotional stuff. Both have to deal with their relationship to their parents, family members, or stupid ex. 🙄 I absolutely loved their story and how Jolie and Vaughn got to know each other more - and better. ❤️ You think Vaughn is just a cold, grumpy business guy, always in a suit and without a heart?! NOOOOOO! He's different with HER! And that makes this story soooo special for me. 🫠🥹 Vaughn definitely stole my heart. Ooooh, yes. ❤️ Phew. Even the sexy times were WOW. O.M.G. But who would be surprised? He's a huge guy with muscles everywhere. 💪😍 Okay, enough swooning. Let's focus again! I loved Jolie, too! She's a sassy and confident woman. (Jessica really knows how to write inspiring female main characters!! ❤️) And her friends? Awwww! Adorable! I really hope that Ryan and Tarryn will get a HEA, too. 😁😁😁
So, if you love small-town live stories, where's lots of small-town drama, gossip, lots of loooove, affection and respect, great friends, some evil people, and more love.... this one's for you! 🥰💋
My first time visiting Pembrooke and I already want to go back as this small town romance was such a sweet, low angst and entertaining read!! Should Have Been Me is book 4 of this series but it was so easy to follow along as an interconnected standalone while making you want to know more about others in this town!
I was instantly pulled into this story with a meet cute that involved a cat and coffee with lots of banter and high tension!! And their interactions just evolve from there keeping you captured in chapter after chapter. Vaughn is back in town to help take care of his father who is going through chemo while Jolie is running a wedding business with her friend. She is also dealing with getting dumped by her ex-fiance who then got together with the mean girl growing up. One day, Vaughn saves the day for Jolie in front of her ex and they enter into a fake dating situation after the whole town talks about it!
Small Town Grumpy/Sunshine Fake Dating Billionaire Age Gap
The audio for this book is a dual narration by Andi Arndt and Christian Fox and these two are the duo I never knew I needed in my life!!!!! Their voices blend together perfeclty as a duo and completely brought this whole story to life! Christian as a grumpy billionaire…swoooon!!!! He has such a decandent tone to his voice that is easy to listen to and fit so well for Vaughn’s broody personality. Then there is Andi who has so much emotion in her voice and completely brought out Jolie’s sunshine demenour which her upbeat tone! The two of them together also delivered the banter flawlessy and had me laughing and smiling so many times!! This is a story I DEFINITELY recommend listening to if you’re looking for a fun, spicy small town romance!
Any book that starts off with friend bonding over Labyrinth is bound to be a fav. I was instantly obsessed! I could not stop listening to the tense, acerbic, antagonist to lovers story that is Jolie & Vaughn. I absolutely adore a darker kind of love, it's not always roses & sunshine. Sometimes it's bickering, taunting and torture, with a huge helping of true love. From the first douse of coffee Vaughn was a goner. Instantly drawn to Jolie's spunky nature. She is the definition of spitfire and I couldn't love her more. She doesn't take his guff, she eagerly steps up to put him in his place. But she also softens his hard edges, allows him a safe place to be the best version of himself. After a lifetime of being perfect, he is finally free to feel and be himself surrounded by love. I loved that despite Vaughn's hard edges, he always knew when he was being jerky even if he couldn't control it. That level of self-awareness was great. What did me in though was how completely he fell for her, even before realizing it. The "Touch her and suffer" energy of his first meeting with her ex was enough to melt you on the spot. The intensity of his defense was enough to cement Vaughn as Hot as fire instantly! This story is tender, endearing, and spicy with a supporting cast that will become the found family you've always wanted. Andi Arndt and Christian Fox were brilliant bringing these characters to life. It was a first time listening to both and I loved their tone and emotion.
Received this book as an ARC for my honest review. Back to Pembrooke! This time with Jolie and Vaughn. Loved these two! Trope: grumpy/sunshine, accidental relationship Spice factor:4/5
Read it in one sitting…it was THAT good!
Jolie is the sunshine in this one….completely off dating after her fiancé left her months before her wedding. But what’s even worse is Jolie owns a wedding planning company with her two best friends. Needless to say she is surrounded by love from her family and friends. Oh ya, and cat. But it isn’t until Vaughn almost runs over said cat that the heart beat starts to heat up.
Vaughn’s parents have divorced and he spent his formative years with his calculating mother…or at least at boarding schools picked out by her. He’s cutoff emotionally and thinks he’s not capable of emotions. Enter Jolie who turns his whole world upside down. In a surprising act he steps in when Jolies ex tries to make a situation uncomfortable…and as they say, the rest is history.
The dialogue and sparing in this is spot on! Jolie while a sunshine character gives tons of sass. Jolie and her two friends are an amazing addition to this book. Love the female friends and support shown throughout. (Maybe can we get more of their stories?) And Vaughn’s new relationship with his dad was really beautiful to watch unfurl.
Against the backdrop of Pembrooke and some of our favorite characters make an appearance….well it just doesn’t get better. Think this might be my favorite out of the series so far!
Jolie Prescott runs a wedding planning company and loves it. She had her own dreams of happily ever after which ended abruptly when her ex-fiancée ended them suddenly. Meeting Vaughn Cavanagh was little to be desired when a mishap with her cat, Smoosh, and coffee had them clashing. Seeing Vaughn a second time was another repeat but when he steps in when her heart is on her sleeve about her ex engaged she doesn't know if she should throttle him or hold on for the rollercoaster that swirls around Vaughn.
Vaughn never thought he would be back in Prembrooke. His childhood was not the best when his mother decided she needed to raise him. He could have been raised by a piece of ice for that matter and unfortunately for Vaughn it has him coming off as cold hearted. Now he has feelings for his pretend girlfriend Jolie and he wants the pretend to be very real. Can Vaughn thaw his frozen heart for the girl who is becoming his everything?
Loved this. Vaughn is such a jerk initially you want to pummel him. Jolie is the complete opposite of Vaughn and the banter has you wanting more from this couple. Terrific book, high praise. Had me smiling through out the whole story.
I was completely swept away by the captivating story that took me on a delightful journey filled with engaging, witty exchanges and genuine laughter. Even during moments of disagreement, the undeniable and immediate connection between the characters made the reading experience thoroughly enjoyable. The narrative was expertly crafted with just the right amount of excitement, leaving me eagerly anticipating each twist and turn.
Vaughn and Jolie's relationship is truly extraordinary. Their unconventional bond serves as a powerful testament to the beauty of acceptance and love. Jolie's unwavering acceptance of Vaughn's unique personality permeates throughout the story, and their mutual admiration forms the solid foundation of their successful relationship. As I delved deeper into their story, I found a constant smile adorning my face, a clear reflection of the captivating nature of their journey. This couple beautifully illustrates that not only do opposites attract, but they also create the most enchanting partnerships.
Andi and Christian's dynamic was absolutely fantastic! The seamless blend of palpable tension and playful banter evoked both laughter and heartfelt emotions that continued to linger with me long after I finished reading.
When I think of grumpy sunshine, Vaughn and Jolie will always come to mind. These two had me chuckling, not only do they have the funniest meet cute but Jolie was full of sunshine and quick witted comments and Vaughn was cold, harsh, and rigid. I loved these two together. The verbal sparring between these two characters was on point. Watching Vaughn crack and feel emotions was something else. This book had me giggling, kicking my feet, and swooning. Vaughn\s protective alpha side left me falling hard.
The small town, billionaire, age-gap, grumpy-sunshine, and fake relationship tropes came together perfectly. The slow burn tension had me turning the pages in anticipation. Under all the adorableness was a touch of emotion as Vaughn develops a relationship with his dad.
I’ve never wanted to throat punch a person so badly as I did with Jolie’s ex-fiancé 😂 the audacity of this man getting engaged AGAIN to a mean girl is a no for me dawg 🙅🏻♀️ and the mean girl has the AUDACE to demand Jolie and her besties to plan their wedding!? 🤯 Jolie is a real grow up, bc my petty butt could never 🤣
I love the meet-cute of Jolie and Vaughn. It was the pretty funny how they kept stumbling into each other. I’m so scared of hot coffee bc of Jolie 😂 their fake dating turning into series dating was cute.
I definitely enjoy the audio. The narrators Christian Fox and Andi Arndt did an amazing job!
Should Have Been Me- Jessica Prince Narrated by- Andi Arndt and Christian Fox
Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Narration 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧
I really enjoyed this one. It went by a lot quicker than I was really thinking it would. It was sort of predictable but it was fun seeing how it all would unfold. I loved the banter between Jolie and Vaughn. And smooshface coming in with his main character energy was hilarious. Vaughns dirty mouth was much more than I was expecting but it did not disappoint!
Andi and Christian did such an amazing job with this narration. Andi did so good and bringing out all the emotions Jolie had throughout the book. And Christian was the best grump for Vaughn.
I am not usually a fake dating fan... but this book had me hooked. This small town romance with grumpy / sunshine, billionaire, age gap, and all the swoon is amazing.
Vaughn and Jolie have all the chemistry and banter. Some moments had me laughing so hard. She doesn't back down, and I loved her for it. Vaughn is sexy in a suit and fills it out very nicely. But he has the biggest heart if you can make it through the ice that he has around it.
This story had me in all my feelings with so many moments you will swoon over. These characters and this town are ones you don't want to miss out on!
I don’t normally jump into a series this late but I’ve been wanting to try the author so I gave it a go and it was totally fine. I will be going back to the earlier books though because I really liked this one! The way Jolie & Vaughn met cracked me up and I was instantly invested in their story. This was sexy, sweet and funny and Andi Arndt will always be one of my faves. Christian Fox was an excellent grumpy rich guy too 😉
Oh how I just absolutely adore the Pembrooke series! This book was absolutely amazing. I can't get over how phenomenal it was. Jolie and Vaughn had chemistry that was coming off the pages from their first meeting. I loved the grumpy sunshine protective troupes. What a phenomenal book. I loved it! I'm so excited to see what other books will be coming in Pembrooke! I was very excited to see some of my favorite Pembrooke Characters making a cameo as well as being mentioned! 5+ stars!
I absolutely loved this book, and it sure was nice to visit Pembrook again. There isn’t a Jessica Prince book that I don’t love and this one was no different!
I love Jessica's books and this one was just as good as the others. I enjoyed reading this book and going back to this series. Can't wait for the next one.
When a ray of sunshine meets a modern-day grinch, then they have to pretend they are dating each other.. what could possibly go wrong? Read this story to find out!!
I used to jump on JP's books on release day, but the last few have just bored me. So this was a nice surprise!
The H may or may not be on the spectrum (nature or nuture) and I can relate to not enjoying the general public on a regular basis. He totally made the book, so grumpy and so confused, but heart of gold.
The h was good too. I enjoyed the ex-drama, and how she mourned and then was just over it.
Should Have Been Me is a great addition to the Pembrooke series!
Jolie and her friends run a successful company planning weddings and parties. She's still getting over being dumped only weeks before her own wedding.
She and Vaughn have chemistry and a mutual attraction, but things get complicated when her ex and Vaughn's half-sister get engaged. They start a fake relationship, but it was easy to see things wouldn't stay fake between them for long. I liked how they found a true connection despite their differences.
This was a nice read and it hooked me from the very beginning. I didn't want to put it down and couldn't wait to see how Jolie and Vaughn's relationship would develop.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
This is by far my favorite book in the Pembrooke Series. Vaughn is an asshole, but there are reasons and I ended up liking him a lot. It’s a good thing too because I LOVE Jolie and she deserves the best. She is hilarious and fierce; definitely girl crush worthy. I really hope we get books for Ryan and Tarryn in the future. I am a sucker for books involving a wedding planning business.
