Just as Monongahela County Coroner Zoe Chambers-Adams decides to fire her abrasive chief deputy, Dr. Charles Davis, and put an end to his constant undermining of her position, a suspicious car crash severely injures the county’s only other forensic pathologist. To keep the office operational, Zoe has little choice but to keep Davis on staff.
When Zoe and her husband—Vance Township Police Chief Pete Adams—respond to a brutal homicide, they quickly learn the victim had come to town for the sole purpose of sharing vital information with Zoe. And the decedent’s ex-husband is none other than Zoe’s deputy coroner.
As Zoe and Pete dig deeper into the victim’s past, more questions arise along with a tangle of connections between multiple cases, including a very cold one that leads Zoe and those she cares about directly into the crosshairs of a crazed killer.
Annette Dashofy is the USA Today best-selling author of 12 novels in the multi Agatha Award nominated Zoe Chambers mystery series about a paramedic and deputy coroner in rural Pennsylvania’s tight-knit Vance Township. In addition, her standalone, Death by Equine, about a veterinarian at a second-rate thoroughbred racetrack, won the 2021 Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award. The second in her new Detective Honeywell Mystery series, Keep Your Family Close, was released in December 2023. Her upcoming What Comes Around (Zoe Chambers #13) is scheduled for release in May 2024. Annette and her husband live on ten acres of what was her grandfather’s dairy farm in southwestern Pennsylvania with their very spoiled cat, Kensi.
While I didn't read the other books in the Zoe Chambers Mysteries series before starting this one, it is still extremely easy to follow along. This specific book centers on a recent murder that occurred within the town's motel, an odd vehicle accident involving a forensic pathologist, and a potential chief deputy suicide attempt.
The Monongahela County Coroner, Zoe Chambers-Adams, and her principal deputy, Dr. Charles Davis, have never gotten along. Even though Charles Davis is a huge jerk with little empathy, he still believes he is brilliant. Given his actions, Davis and Zoe have a falling out, which becomes public knowledge when articles about it are released. In response, mostly because he continues to challenge Zoe's authority, Zoe is working to get him dismissed. Instead, she is forced to keep him on staff due to the increase in cases.
The story begins with Dr. Lyle Abercrombie being asked to examine a closed case involving a widow whose spouse has passed away. Agreeing to take a look and head into his office, he notices a black Toyota 4-Runner that has been following him for weeks. Traveling the opposite way to work, he drove up against the Toyota but wasn’t able to get a really good look at the driver. Deciding to leave it alone for now, he starts his drive to work. Although he doesn’t get very far before he is run off the road.
While this is all happening to Dr. Abercrombie, the Vance Township Police Department get called to a homicide at the Vance Motel. The victim is a female that was bulged to death. Beginning the investigation, it was discovered that a mother and son were staying in this motel room, but the son was no where to be seen. The family duo was determined to be Virginia Lowe and Alex Lowe. Once the son arrives to the Vance motel to discover his mother has been murdered, more questions were answered. Such as Virginia and Alex visiting the community to provide Zoe with crucial information regarding the chief deputy. She never had the opportunity to reveal what she had wanted to, though, and the son was unaware of what his mother was about to disclose.
It was revealed that Virginia Lowe and Charles Davis were once married, which raised concerns about Virginia's murder, and what she was going to tell Zoe about the chief deputy. With this knowledge, the question of whether Dr. Davis killed his ex-wife or not flourishes. The officers are informed by Virginia's son and her two younger sisters that they are certain Davis is capable of killing her.
However, due to Davis' conflict of interest and the fact that her forensic pathologist, Dr. Abercrombie, is still recuperating from his accident, Zoe is unable to consent to Virginia's autopsy. Since Dr. Abercrombie is unable to investigate this closed case of a man's death, he begs Zoe to help dig into it while he recovers. With Zoe’s promise to give it her all, it was simple to obtain some information regarding the man’s passing, since Zoe’s spouse is the chief of police for Vance Township.
The most shocking part of this man’s death is about who performed his autopsy. Dr. Charles Davis, the one and only, conducted this man's autopsy and may have made mistakes. Dr. Davis confirmed that this man’s was due to suicide. His decision, however, was based solely on an eyewitness who called in to report seeing a guy jump off a bridge. Issues revolve around this case because the caller failed to give her identity, the number was a burner phone, and the cops did not go into the matter thoroughly. Ultimately, Dr. Davis should have ruled the death undetermined instead of suicide, since the autopsy couldn’t confirm it to be suicide.
With the recent homicide and the erroneous autopsy report, all eyes were on Davis and his involvement. It was all conjecture, though, as there was no proof to support his involvement in the murder. For this reason, when Davis attempted suicide and left a note claiming he had killed Virginia, it astonished everyone to learn that he had been discovered and taken to the hospital.
The investigation into his attempted suicide raised additional problems because nobody thought he was suicidal. Following an investigation into his attempt, it was determined that someone attempted to kill Davis and make it appear as though he had committed suicide. This whole thing only raises more questions than it does answers.
Unexpected connections were found between the Virginia homicide investigation, Alex's movements during his mother's murder, the black Toyota 4-Runner, Dr. Davis's past, his suicide attempt, and the unsolved cold case of a man's death five years earlier.
Pete and Zoe are delightful newlyweds, whose idea of a perfect day off is a picnic in a lovely park . . . while chasing down clues about two murders. The mysteries are so twisty and complex that the metaphor of a jigsaw puzzle is perfect, including the confusion when trying to fit a piece into the wrong spot. I love them and their loyal friends so much that I’ll even forgive them, and Annette Dashofy, for lost sleep. It’s the ultimate compliment, I tried to sleep, awoke an hour later, and HAD to finish the book before I could slumber again, and I don’t regret it at all. Zoe is a better person than I am. She has such a good heart that she even wishes good outcomes for the truly terrible persons. I confess I take some delight in just deserts. I needed reminders that this is only weeks after HELPLESS because more time has passed for me, but it was delightful to step back into their story. You don’t have to read the books in order, but I like to, even though they stand alone quite well. I also appreciate a good solid, satisfying ending, while (im)patiently waiting for the next grand adventure.
This was a fast-paced book about multiple murders that seem to be related to each other. It had me hooked from the first page. There was a lot going on which made it even more interesting and kept me guessing till the end. The plot was brilliant.
The characters were well-developed. I liked Zoe’s character and her relationship with her husband Pete. They respect, understand and trust each other and their love for each other is adorable.
This was my first read by this author and it did not disappoint. It is the thirteenth book of the Zoe Chambers series, but can be read as a standalone.
I would recommend this book if you love police and medical procedural crime thrillers.
Thank you so much Level Best Books, Netgalley and Annette Dashofy for this ARC copy!
This is my first book by this author so this was my first Zoe mystery as well. The mystery is well thought out with its complex plot. I liked all of the characters and enjoyed the book. Annette is a great writer! I also like the mentions of animals in the book especially her cats, lol! I was almost mad thinking a certain character had died, but that ended well as did the rest of the plot. I might check out some more of her Zoe mysteries but I am also intrigued by her “Death by Equine” book too! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
When I finish a Zoe Chambers Mystery, I always have to take a few minutes to just to breath, to let it become part of me. I wish I explain how amazing they are, how much they touch me, how much I just plain enjoy them in a review. In What Comes Around, A Zoe Chambers Mystery, Annette Dashofy brings us another breath-stopping death investigation with County Coroner Zoe Chambers. Zoe's short time as coroner has not been easy with the loss of her beloved mentor, a deadly hurricane, and a deputy coroner who will stop at nothing to get her job. That threat to her position comes to play when a friend's request could put her job right in his hands. The need to find justice for the dead is as inherent in her soul as her love of horses. The fact that investigation really isn't in her job description doesn't keep her from doing her best to discover whether or not a chef and restaurant owner really committed suicide. The fact that her nemesis might have swayed the earlier investigation only adds to her need to look into the death.
I adore the relationship between these almost newlyweds! The respect and understanding they share brings to mind some of the best marriages I have seen in real life. A stunning development tests the strength of that bond. We do not spend as much time as usual with some of the regular characters who are working to recover from the flood as well as carry on their regular jobs, but the ones who are move involved throw their strengths into making the story stronger. Annette Dashofy's secondary characters are as key and interesting as Pete and Zoe.
I am always thrilled when Netgalley, Level Best allow me to read and review an ARC even though I also pre-order a personal copy. I am already telling my friends how much I loved What Comes Around, but it takes a little longer to keep trying to write a review good enough to post. This one isn't, but I give up. Here it is y'all, a great book is about to be released! Enjoy!
Zoe Chambers (now add Adams) has had a very tumulus life and many career changes since this series began 13 books ago. Presently Zoe is the Coroner after having been a EMS Paramedic. Now married to Police Chief Pete Adams the two have jobs that demand a lot of hours and shifts. There are so many wonderful characters that assist them both there is always something to look forward to.
There are many varied plots in this latest edition in the series and there was never a dull moment. I picked it up and rarely put it down I was so hooked. If Zoe won't knock off Dr. Charles Davis I was willing to do it for her! Two new characters will be sure to shake up future episodes in Pete & Zoe's lives. I can hardly wait. Saying any more might spoil this fast paced, action packed, murder mystery.
Thank you to the author for another book to add to my sharing library.
I volunteered to read an ARC through Net Galley. Release date May 7, 2024
Seemingly separate plot threads will intrigue you while you're rapidly turning the pages, and the resolution packs a satisfying punch in this latest Zoe Chambers mystery. All she wants is to fire her arrogant combative Deputy Director. However a short term staff shortage and an abundance of bodies have thwarted her. Meanwhile an attack on one of her associates, a horrific murder in a nearby motel and a cold case keep both her and her police chief husband under pressure. Excellent series set in rural Western Pennsylvania has engaging true to life characters, a strong sense of place and above a fast paced mystery. Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review
I am a fan of Annette Dashoffy and her Zoe Chambers Mystery series, I think her newest and the 13th book in the series, What Comes Around, may be her best to date. In What Comes Around, Monongahela County Coroner, Zoe Chambers and her husband Pete Adams, Vance Township Police Chief, are faced with several challenges: professional and personal. Dr. Charles Davis, medical coroner and Zoe's nemesis, are again at odds and their disagreemet has become public. To make the plot even juicier, Dr. Davis is a suspect in the brutal slaying of his ex-wife Virginia Lowe. Virginia's son Alex told Pete and Zoe that they we in town in order for Virginia to share some incriminating information about Davis with Zoe. That's just a part of this multi-layered novel: Dr. Lyle Abercrombie, forensic pathologist and friend of Zoe and Pete was run off the road on his way to the coroner's office; there is a cold case investigation that Zoe is unwillingly drawn into, and Pete's former high school sweetheart shows up with big news. What Comes Around is an intrguing mystery, a compelling read and definitely a page turner. I live relatively near the story locations so that made reading it extra fun. Quite simpy, it's a great book. Thanks to NetGalley, Level Best Books and Annette Dashoffy for the opportunity to read What Comes Around and to write this honest review. 5 stars.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is the latest addition to this series and while I did enjoy it, it isn't my favorite. Usually I find myself immersed in the pages from the beginning, but this one took a bit more time to get into. There is a lot going on and the twists and turns are pretty good. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
What Comes Around A Zoe Chambers Mystery, Book #13 Annette Dashofy 5+ Stars

Review: The characters are well rounded and well developed. When Zoe is about ready to fire her chief deputy coroner, her other county pathologist is involved in a suspicious car crash and she cannot fire him. She also has a dead body to deal with and the deceased's son tells her his mom was there to talk to Zoe about her ex-husband:the coroner Zoe wants to fire. Zoe and her husband, Police Chief Pete Adams, have a lot to figure out and solve.
The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly by their actions and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions kept me engaged in the story from the very beginning. The mystery is well plotted and there are enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. Any time I get to spend with Zoe and Pete I am a happy camper.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher Level Best Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
The thirteenth contribution to the Zoe Chambers Mystery series is What Comes Around, a mystery that meets all of my expectations. The protagonist Zoe Chambers, the Monongahela Count Coroner, continues to have conflict with the arrogant and unpopular Dr. Davis, who acts in the role of Chief Deputy Coroner. In their rural area he is the main forensic pathologist.
There are three different crimes that Zoe and her husband Pete, the local police chief, are having to deal with: the brutal murder of a woman who came to town to talk with Zoe, a vehicular attack on a retired forensic pathologist, and a suicide attempt. Zoe is also asked to look into a cold case. She and those law enforcement officers working with her must be getting close to an answer because life gets more dangerous for them.
Investigating these crimes leads to four whiteboards at headquarters with multiple cross-references as the police try to sort out victims, criminals, leads, and motivations. Needless to say, with this many threads, there are numerous clues along with dead ends as some of those interviewed are lying. There are characters whose lives hang in the balance, and the reader is brought along for the well-told adventures. What Comes Around is the kind of mystery that keeps me going from one chapter to another as Dashofy sustains a fast pace with hooks leading to the next chapter.
An additional mystery is on a personal level for Pete and Zoe when a beautiful young woman arrives in town and requests Pete’s help. Something is just not right about her and about the stalker she claims is following her.
I recommend this book and this series. I plan on reading the 5 books I have missed, not to fill in blanks on the characters, but to devour those tales. I love a good mystery!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
Annette Dashofy’s latest installment in the Zoe Chambers series, “What Comes Around,” is a riveting mystery that delves deep into the complexities of small-town politics, personal vendettas, and the relentless pursuit of justice.
The story centers on Monongahela County Coroner Zoe Chambers-Adams, who is on the brink of firing her abrasive chief deputy, Dr. Charles. With no choice but to keep Davis on staff, Zoe finds herself navigating a treacherous landscape of professional and personal challenges.
Dashofy expertly weaves themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the moral complexities of justice throughout the narrative.
Zoe Chambers-Adams is a formidable protagonist, whose determination and resilience are tested at every turn. Dr. Charles Davis, as Zoe’s nemesis, is a well-crafted antagonist whose actions and motivations keep readers guessing.
The supporting cast, including Zoe’s colleagues and the residents of Monongahela County, are vividly portrayed, each contributing to the rich tapestry of the story.
Dashofy’s writing is crisp and evocative, capturing the essence of the rural Pennsylvania setting and the intricacies of the forensic investigations. Her attention to detail and ability to build suspense keep the reader engaged from start to finish.
“What Comes Around” is a masterfully crafted mystery that will appeal to fans of the Zoe Chambers series and newcomers alike.
Whether you’re a longtime follower of Zoe Chambers or discovering her for the first time, this novel is a must-read. It’s a testament to Dashofy’s skill as a storyteller and her deep understanding of the human condition.
Zoe Chambers-Adams (Monangahela County Coroner) and her husband Pete Adams (Police Chief Pete Adams) investigate 2 cases which they think it is connected to each other. A woman was murdered in the Vance Motel, Doc assume someone was stalking him, Zoe wanted to fire Davis. Things get complicated when they found out that the victim’s was the doctor’s ex-wife. He wanted to talk to Zoe and what could that be? Another case was the one they thought as a “suicide” case. What would be the connection of this? Is it really a suicide?
I love the pacing of the book which is addictive to read. This is my first book of the author and for the Zoe Chambers series. I keep wanting to read. This is such a brilliant mystery thriller! There is a lot of things happening and it keeps me also guessing as if I am part of the investigation. The characters were easy to follow, all of the people working on the case. I love Zoe & Pete relationship! They respect each other and really working together as a team!
The action in this book was so good! I felt like I was in the scene! It keeps me on the edge of my seat! It’s so intriguing and mystery! I would definitely read more of this series but this can read as stand alone.
4 🌟! Thank you netgalley for providing me the book. Read this if you like mystery, easy to read, and if you’re interested in police & medical procedures!
This book opens just days after book twelve ended, which makes sense. Helpless ended with Zoe deciding to finally stand up to Dr. Charles Davis publicly. But before she can line everything up to fire him, Pete and Zoe are called to scene of a homicide. A woman has been brutally murdered in a hotel room. The surprise is that the victim was Davis’s ex-wife who came to the area to tell Zoe something. What was it?
Because this storyline has been brewing in the background for multiple books now, I was hooked from the moment I picked up this one, always have a hard time putting it down. I didn’t expect the ending, but it made perfect sense when Zoe figured it out. As always, the characters are entertaining, new and old alike. Zoe and Pete split the point of view character duties, and the shifts are always clear. This series is darker than the cozies I often read, but don’t let that stop you from reading these books. Sadly, this is the final book (sob!), at least for now. Fortunately, the author is working on other things to entertain us. If you are already a fan of Zoe and Pete, you’ll love this book. If you aren’t yet a fan, dive in today. You’ll be hooked in no time.
If you are interested in a fascinating police and medical procedural, then this is the book and series for you. County Coroner Zoe Chambers-Adams realizes that it is time to fire her Chief Deputy as he has caused nothing but strife in her department as well as undermining her authority. Before she can do so, she is asked, by her friend and forensic pathologist, to investigate the ruling of suicide in the death of a man from five years ago. Meanwhile, Zoe’s husband, Police Chief Pete Adams, is called to the brutal murder scene of a woman who recently arrived in town. The woman arrived solely for the purpose of speaking to Zoe about her ex-husband, Zoe’s Chief Deputy. Was he involved in her death? When a young woman requests Pete’s assistance to find the person stalking her, there is something about the woman that makes him suspicious. When she seems a bit too interested in him, what does she really want? This is one of my all-time favorite series, a strong female character who battles for justice until the thrilling end! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
A lot of entwined cases for Zoe and Pete to unravel!🔍
I like the concept of a coroner who actually worries as much about discovering why a death happened as when and how. This story in the Zoe Chambers series has her digging deeper and deeper into her nemesis's past. Her deputy at the coroner's office is a total nightmare to her and she wants to get him out of her hair by pinpointing the professional errors he's made, but the obstacles to that keep piling up and a violent murder and attempted vehicular murder seem to indicate he's a dangerous killer as well and not a man to cross.
I thought the plot was complex, well put together and made the most of Zoe and her policeman husband Pete's investigative skills. And, yes, good action and suspenseful danger too. A good yarn all around and I particularly liked that it was set in my home state of Pennsylvania.
Thanks to IBPA, Level Best Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Diving into my first novel by this author introduced me to the intriguing world of Zoe mysteries. The book's intricate plot, centered around a series of interconnected murders, was engaging and kept a brisk pace that had me captivated from the start. The complexity of the storyline added layers of interest and had me speculating on the outcome until the very end. The characters, especially Zoe and her husband Pete, were crafted with depth, showcasing a relationship built on mutual respect, understanding, and an endearing love. Although this is the thirteenth installment in the Zoe Chambers series, it stands strong on its own. For fans of police and medical procedural crime thrillers, this book comes highly recommended. A heartfelt thanks to Level Best Books, Netgalley, and Annette Dashofy for providing this ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley, author Annette Doshofy and Level best books for the ARC and opportunity to review this book.
This was my first book by this author and my first in the Zoe mysteries. It was a solid 4 stars for me from beginning right to the end. The interconnected murders/deaths were well established and connected throughout the book. The characters were well written and well developed. The book grabbed my interest at the beginning and kept its fast paced suspenseful beat.
It was engaging and had a captivating storyline. Who wouldn’t love the relationship of Zoe and Pete built into a mystery that kept me wanting to turn the page. While I see that it is number 13 in a series I didn’t feel lost at all and would easily say this could be a stand alone book.
WHAT COMES AROUND, the latest book in author Annette Dashofy’s Zoe Chambers mysteries has more twists than the back roads that snake through the hills of rural Pennsylvania. Dr. Charles Davis has been a thorn in Zoe’s side since long before he became her second in command in the county coroner’s office. His embarrassing accusations against Zoe in the local news finally pushed her to decide to fire him. But before she can do that, a series of incidents put him at the center of more than one mystery. Soon, both she and her husband, Chief Pete Adams find themselves searching for clues to connect a 5-year-old suicide ruling, a murder and an assault. This story is so good that I did not want to put it down. When the culprit was revealed, I was stunned, having anticipated a completely different ending. Kudos to Annette Dashofy on a stellar addition to a fabulous series.
I've been a long-time fan of Annette Dashofy since her debut novel in the Zoe Chambers series, Circle of Influence, was a finalist for the Agatha Award for Best First Novel in 2014. Her writing prowess has earned her a place as a featured speaker at conferences and workshops. While the core characters remain, the series has evolved from cozy mysteries to pastoral thrillers. Over the last few books, Dr. Charles Davis has transformed from a merely irritating character to one I would like to slap in public (and I'm a pacifist!). At the end of Helpless, Zoe receives a summons from a County Commissioner, clearly a power play by Dr. Davis, and vows to fire him.
The Yiddish proverb, "Man plans, God laughs," perfectly encapsulates the theme of this book. Before Zoe can act, the other forensic pathologist is injured in a car accident. Then, a body is discovered in a motel room—Dr. Davis's ex-wife, who had come to Zoe's jurisdiction specifically to warn her. The ensuing mystery unfolds with multiple interconnected, yet tangled, threads, culminating in a breathtaking conclusion. This fan hopes Dashofy will continue sharing her stories for many years to come.
An enjoyable read and great to be back with Zoe and Pete.
A woman is murdered in the Vance Motel, Doc, investigating a cold case, is being watched and meanwhile, Pete seems to have acquired a stalker of his own. Charles Davis is slating Zoe’s work to the press and then a discovery about the murdered woman seems to link everything to Zoe, putting her life in danger.
I loved the fast pace, the characters (even Chuckie, for what he brings to the story), and the twisty suspense.
This is only my second read in this brilliant series, so although there is a continuity, they also read well as standalone books.
4.5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Annette Dashofy and Level Best for an ARC in return for an honest review.
The Zoe Chambers series is one of my favorites and the latest did not disappoint. Zoe had tried to follow the adage "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" by installing Dr. Charles Davis as her chief deputy in the coroner's office but it hasn't stopped his personal attacks and behind-the-scenes manipulation. Things get complicated quickly when Zoe and Pete discover that a recent homicide victim was the doctor's ex-wife. And she had come to find Zoe because she had something to tell her. Full of intrigue and the personal touches that characterize these books, you won't want to miss this!
This was a quick read for me, so much so that I could have finished in one day if I had the time. Now when I read mystery books I normally have it figured out who the culprit is way before the authors reveal it. In this case, I did not have it figured out till a paragraph before the characters found out. I liked the relationship between Zoe and her husband Pete and how they deal with some crazy life challenges. I liked how the author took several different instances and had them all connected by the end. This book is number 13 in the series (I had no idea) I do feel that you can read it as a stand-alone. The only thing that you would be missing out on is the growth of the character's relationships and how they got there. After reading this, I do want to go back and read the other books.
As always, I preface reviews of these books with admitting the author has been a friend for many years.
And the things I liked about those earlier books are the things I like about this one: the small town environment that requires the characters, not having the latest crime fighting technology at hand, to use their knowledge of the people and the rhythms and personality of the area to solve crimes.
To be honest, I would like these books even if my friend didn't write them. They're that good.
So if you’re looking for a break from the Boston-New York-Chicago-Los Angeles chain of mysteries, any Annette Dashofy book is a great way to go.
Once again Annette Dashofy has written another gripping entry in her Zoe Cambers series. Despite having her hands full with Dr Davis challenging her right to be coroner and driving off her staff, Zoe agrees to risk her position to help Doc Abercrombie look into a cold case in another jurisdiction. A case that if allegations are correct Dr Davis botched. Of course things become more complicated than either Doc or Zoe anticipated.
Leave yourself plenty of time to read What Comes Around because you won’t want to put it down.
A marvelous murder mystery thriller. Hooked from the first page and won't be able to stop reading. A story about multiple murder mysteries that may be in twine together. Or is there a copycat serial killer on the loose? Are they all related?
That’s what Pete, a police officer, and his wife Zoe, a coroner are trying to figure out. They gain help from reliable resources to discover the murders. However, will they be in danger trying to solve them? Their plot twists throughout the story and secrets are revealed. Did they crack the case or is the killer on the loose?
Annette Dashofy has done it again! Her books are always good, but boy, this one...WOW!
As if the edge-of-seat action wasn't enough to keep me riveted, she went and threw in a zinger.
Dashofy handles dialog between characters in a natural way. She really captures how real people talk to one another. And her description of action scenes? Well, I wasn't just reading about the action...I was THERE!!
Pete and Zoe continue to grow as people and as a couple. They make others around them better people.
I love the Zoe Chamber’s series. Annette always keeps it fresh and entertaining. I feel this book had a little more intrigue or suspense which made it all the better. Zoe is still having trouble with her obnoxious pathologist. But what does an overbearing assistant, his ex wife’s murder, a suicide from several years ago and a murder attempt on a forensic pathologist have in common? A great book that leaves you guessing and on your toes during the whole book. But Zoe and Pete manage to solve them all. Even while going through a big personal surprise of their own.
