Love of Dragons

Rate this book
Every lore of every clan, across time and space, dreamed of dragons. Did you ever wonder why?

It has been thirty years since Benjamin D'Angelo Awakened as an immortal dragon, since he lost his Destined Mate across time and space for the third incarnation. But he never lost hope. He knew, even at the end, that he would find her again. And thus began the most crucial quest of his existence.

Unbeknownst to Ben and his fated love, they've crossed paths at least twice in these thirty years. Each time, the ephemeral interaction breathed new hope in their yearning hearts. Now, finally, archeologist Elizabeth Winters will meet her match and come face to face with the man who has always haunted her dreams.

Yet, evil never rests. There's a new threat to Ben's family and friends, their reach extensive throughout the human and Immortal worlds. Together, Ben and Lizzy must find and keep safe nine dragon eggs that have long since been buried and forgotten before they fall into the wrong hands.

The end of the world may be just around the corner. Along the way, enemies may become lovers, reluctant friendships may form, and lots of hot, desperate, this-may-be-the-last-time-we-have-sex sex will definitely be had.

And who knows, you too may fall in...

What an incredible ride! I was lucky to be both a beta and ARC reader for this fabulous writer and I’m so thankful I got to go on this deeply emotional and romantic journey. A story that starts in The Pure/Dark Ones series and culminates in The Dragon Tails series. I can’t even imagine the story boards and notes that went into connecting each character and the worlds they inhabited in the past and present. True literary genius is being able to wrap up 20+ books with the reader knowing they’ll never recover from their beautiful stories. It’s a bittersweet feeling knowing I won’t read more in this universe but I can assure you there will be plenty of re-reads.

So, if you haven’t started this entire series, I highly suggest you add it to your TBR and certainly don’t start with this book because you’ll have absolutely no clue what’s happening. It’s an intricate world that builds on itself and weaves strands of plot together like a multiverse.

Love of Dragons is the final installment and we finally get Ben’s HEA. A much deserved HEA and with the one woman that has both hurt him and saved him. Known by many names, she is Lizzy in this story and it’s a Lizzy I came to love and respect in many ways. More human than Goddess, her development to this point was incredible and I wouldn’t have chosen any other reincarnation for Ben. Speaking of Ben, I’ve watched him grow through the series and I loved the progression from boy to man. He’s dominant, protective and growly in all the right ways. Lizzy is softer now, intuitive and the best version of herself.

Lizzy and Ben, now reunited, must band together and fight the impending danger. Dragon eggs, magic, battles, power and twists and turns make this story fast paced and entertaining. The romance is at the core of the story and in true Aja fashion is passionate, intimate and everything I’d hoped for Ben. So much is at stake but one thing these two will never take for granted again is their love for each other. This time they chose each other…forever.

I loved that Ben and Lizzy’s journey in this final book felt softer and not as heartbreaking. Don’t get me wrong, their pasts are sad but this time it felt different. Real and raw, I just adored it all. Aja, I can’t wait for what’s next!

“You are everything I’ve always hoped for.”

“And you, my Dragon King,” she said against his mouth before pressing a long, lingering kiss there:

“You are everything I’ve ever dreamed.”

Soooooo... there's only so much time I can delay with this. I don't want this world to end! But end it must... right??? Aja James has been very mums about any more in this interwoven world of Beasts, dragons, Pure and Dark Ones, Elementals and all kinds of other immortals. Really, it could go in any direction present, past and future, parallel universes, there's no limit to her imagination and therefore the world she creates!

BUT. Upon repeated harassment, she's said she doesn't have plans (YET) to write more... in the near future... doesn't mean never right????

Anywho... as a devoted reader of her writing, I will read anything she writes. If she leaves this world and tries something new, I'll read that too! Just don't stop writing, AJ!

Now to the main event, my review of this book.

It was a white chocolate rhapsberry truffle with dark chocolate filling. And if you know how much I love my desserts (and AJ's characters seem to love them too, some of them anyway), it's THAT good!

It's lighthearted in a way that I don't think any of her books are lighthearted (tho Song of Dragons (Dragon Tails #2) by Aja James was a little more of that than others, and not surprising bc Divina and Andros are in this one too).

It's sweet and even innocent in some ways. But there are LAYERS.

There are all these past lives that have to be faced and examined and reconciled. There's Ben's conviction and Lizzy's doubt. Now, to be fair, she only just met the guy in this life. She doesn't know her past lives. Give the girl a minute to fall in love!

But for us devoted readers who have watched Ben go through so much to come so far, we want her to have ZERO doubt within a milisecond of meeting him... Because he deserves it!!

I mean look at him, he totally deserves it!!......

I would say that even tho this is Ben's long-awaited HEA, it's more Lizzy's book. Just like the last book of the Pure/ Dark series, Dark Purity (Pure/Dark Ones, #13) by Aja James was more Ere's book. The ultimate bad/good guy in the Dragon Tails is Lizzy (or rather, her real identity). And even tho there are a lot of redemption parallels with Ere's story, I think all of us readers gave Seven/ Twin Goddess a harder time. But Lizzy was soooo very lovable. She really showed us how she COULD be, if only she were loved.

No wonder Ben always chooses her. He always saw what none of us could see -- the potential of her joy and light, the beauty of her soul.

Of course, in true AJ fashion, there is intrigue and action and fights and best of all--visits with many of our fave couples! I wish we got to see them all, but we saw quite a few, so I'm more or less satisfied.

And the ragdolls! A shout out to Howie and Carter!!

This book is a bright light in an otherwise, pretty stressful time.

I must say that I continue to be impressed at how vast and gorgeous a world Aja James has created through these two series (Dragon Tails and the Pure/Dark Ones). This series alone has taken us through time and space, through the worlds of gods, vampires, immortals including beasts and yes, dragons! In this story, we finally get to see Ben get his HEA and it was glorious, in part because while his story had many sad events throughout his reincarnations, the overall feelings that emanated through this story were ones of hope and love.

His mate, Lizzy, helps him with his final quest to save the 9 dragon eggs but as always, James' stories are never simple and this one continues to build on the mythology that she has set from the beginning- not just of this series but of the one before (if you haven't read the Pure/Dark Ones series- they are fantastic and a must read just for the wonder of them).

We get to see so many of the past couples, a beautiful and fitting goodbye to this series and the characters I have loved and rooted for throughout. Her books always have some heaviness as these characters live through tragedy and intense pain (including torture) to achieve their well earned and well fought for HEA. Ben and Lizzy's story is no different and you will love and cheer for this couple!

I will miss the characters from this series something fierce! And I will continue to hope that Aja James builds on her world some more with a future series. Thanks to the author for another fantastic, unforgettable read.

The exquisite finale of my beloved series was breathtakingly loving and absolutely leaving me stunned speechless with how all loose ends were perfectly and brilliantly tied up.

The Happily-Through-Eternity conclusion of Ben's many reincarnations was an epic lover story he deserved. All of his previous ones ended with him broken ~ heart & soul!

I could've never imagined how Lizzy ~ who were both The Pure Goddess as well as the Dark Goddess ~ would finally be born in Nebraska, as a human, who turned out to be Ben's true soulmate!

Sharing one out of various amazing scenes leading up to when Ben and Lizzy pledged their eternal love to each other:

"You are everything I've always hoped for."

"And you, my Dragon King . . . You are everything I've ever dreamed."

And some mind blowing pieces of Information to tempt you to pick up this book, as well as the entire series!

Lizzy, a goddess, was the creator of all Dragons!

The story quest: the search to find & activate nine dragon eggs!
Guess WHO was the only ONE who could solve it all!

Ben could change to many fantastical forms ~ a merman, a sea dragon, . . . etc.
Bet you'd love to find out what his true form was!

Deepest gratitude to the Incomparable Author for the gift of this ARC🙇🏻‍♀️
The honest review above was straight from my heart.
Looking forward to more new fantastic stories & series in the very near future.

I'm at the end of this book and I really didn't want it to end.
I was extremely desperate to see this series continue and BEN was the male I was waiting a million books for.

I fell in love with every male depicted in this author's books, but none effected me quite like Benjamin D'Angelo. We met him as a young boy, saw him grown into a fine lad, and now that he's grown... He became the epitome of all that is good in the world he lived in.

Aja James has this way of writing that draws you in completely. You'll be thoroughly invested in every character, every twist and turn of their lives, and all of the moments in between. The words within these books are lyrical and haunting and no other series of stories has ever made me feel this way.

How will I go on???

Just saying, but I need more from this author.

I have received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I may be late to the party, but I am so happy that I have finally arrived. Ever since we were introduced to Ben, I have been in love with him. All I ever wanted for him was to finally fall in love with his mate. Some would call this a dream of mine, and others would probably think I'm crazy for wanting him to fall in love with someone else.

So, it's probably safe to assume that I was very excited that Ben got not one but two freaking books. It's basically the cherry on top for this seris to end with him finally getting a happily ever after. On top of that, I'm not even sure which version of his mate I liked more between these two books. Sure, I'm happy that he and Elizabeth ended up together, but I still miss Seven in a weird ass way.

On top of the extra steamy romance that eventually took place, I enjoyed the adventure of finding the dragon eggs. It was especially cute when the other couples that we have met throughout this series would claim them after they were woken up. To say I wasn't surprised to see them all get one would be true. They all deserved it, and I'm hoping that Elizabeth and Ben are able to create their own in the very near future.

In the end, everything was boxed up neatly with a big ass bow on top. I have zero complaints about anything that has happened in this series or in the Pure/Dark Ones. I'm just sad it is over (for now), and I'm already planning on rereading both series in the very near future. I also can't wait for Aja to write her next book or series, because I enjoy her books so freaking much.

Before i start my review,i want to take the time to thank Aja James.
For introducing me to a world and it’s beautiful inhabitants that will remain a part of me for the rest of my life.
A world that i cherish and will revisit as often as possible.
The details of events are many, and i’m in awe of the way Aja left little clues throughout the 2 series that turned out to be so very important later on.
Because everything starts in Pure Healing, the very first book of The Pure/Dark Ones series, and ends here in Love of Dragons, the last book of The Dragon Tails series.
This is 27 books we’re talking about,people!
27 books filled with breadcrumbs, while everyone finds their HEA.
27 stories filled with the history of those people….their beginning, their families, the loneliness, and pain they endured, before they finally were able to embrace their HEA.
It’s mindblowing how Aja kept track of everyone, and everything, throughout and us Muses (beta readers) still suspect she has a room filled with every little detail she needed throughout those 27 books.
This is the first, and only, time that i’ve been this obsessed with a series, and still feel sad that we’ve reached the end.
Because i’m not ready to say goodbye….not even with the knowledge that all is well.
That everyone is living the life they so deserve, and are with the ones they love more than life itself.

Have i made you curious about these series?
Do you need to know what i’m talking about?
Let me help you…..here are the links to both series:

https://www.goodreads.com/series/3071...

And now it’s time to review the story of the couple these series were building up to,Ben and Lizzy, aka Seven, aka…,aka….
It’s a story that needed not one,but two books, and here’s the link to my review of the first,Kiss of Dragons:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Love of Dragons picks up their story 30 years later, and during those years,Seven grew up in her final, human reïncarnation as Lizzy.
Lizzy has loving parents who encourage her in everything she does, and throughout her 30 years in this life, she’s dreamed of dragons, gods and immortals, and of an age, tens of thousands of years ago.
In her mind, they were as real as she was,and she hoped there would come a day she’d meet one….
And she knew exactly who…..the man that’d haunted her dreams most of all!
In the meantime, her carreer as an archeologist kept her busy, and her 2 ragdoll cats gave her the love she needed until that fateful day would arrive.

The symposium in Bangkok,Thailand was an event she was looking forward to.
She was asked as a guest speaker because she was the only accredited academic, with a Doctor in front of her name and a PhD following it, who believed in dragons.
And guess who she met there…..

Ben has been patiently waiting for his other half to grow up in her new reïncarnation.
In the meantime,he’s kept himself busy with training, archeology, and being a Pure One based dragon.
Being the biggest, baddest dragon ever, everyone saw him as their leader, but he begged to differ.
But as such,Ramses, the Dark One’s king, invited him for a conversation.
And what he learned there, was that there was trouble brewing….
Pure and Dark Ones were searching for hidden dragon eggs, that apparently had been slumbering for ages.
They wanted those eggs to help them seize power, and he was going to be the one to stop them, accompanied by an expert in pre-history civilizations.
One Dr. Elizabeth Winters….

Their connection is immediate, the danger alas is too….and with unknown enemies on their heels,Ben and Lizzy go egg hunting all over the world.
During that hunt, they meet up with the dragon couples, and hand over the eggs that Lizzy frees from their hidingplaces.
Also during that hunt,Ben and Lizzy get very close and very personal in the most delicious ways you can think of.
Finally,Lizzy realised everything she’d done, and how she’d been responsible for the pain of so many souls, most of all Ben’s.
She finally understood what happened to her too,the trauma it caused….and she could finally see the extent of her reactions and the consequences.

But Ben was also the one to show her what love really means, how deep his love for her was, that he would always choose her.
And being human meant that Lizzy finally understood the love she would always feel for the only soul that had been there for her in all of her incarnations, and she knew with all of her heart that he was the ONE AND ONLY for her, too.
The one that had always loved her in spite of everything she’d done to him.
FINALLY,they were where they were meant to be from the beginning of time….together in every way possible!!

The only problem that remained though, was who wanted the eggs, and what were they planning with them??
In the end, they had only one chance left….the last egg,the one meant for Ere and Sorin.
Would they succeed? They have to be stopped……but how???

Seeing everyone again, knowing how happy they all were, was such a treat!!
From the Pure and Dark Ones to the dragon couples, everyone was there.
The epilogue was bittersweet…..on the one hand it was so very good to see all was as it should be,and everyone was in a good place, but on the other hand….is this really goodbye???

Please,Aja….there has to be more you could tell us,right?
How about the little dragons that were hatched from those eggs?
How will they grow up,what adventures will they have?
Or maybe about the created Beasts?
Are the experiments really done?
Or the rebelling Dark Ones that want to rule over the Pure Ones again?
Or how about the children from the Little Flower Orphanage?
They’re all grown up now,right?
Are they part of the secret organisation called the Dandelions, and if so,what is it’s purpose?
Please tell me you’re not ready to leave this beautiful world behind, either!!

A Love Story Worth the Wait

Love of Dragons is a deeply emotional and satisfying conclusion to The Pure/Dark Ones and Dragon Tails series. If you’ve followed the journey from the start, you’ll understand why Ben has been such a beloved character—adorable, complex, and full of growth.

This final installment beautifully weaves together intricate worlds and storylines, so don’t read it as a standalone—you’ll miss the richness of the series.

Ben finally gets his well-deserved HEA with Lizzy, whose character shines with vulnerability and strength. Their romance is intimate, passionate, and filled with twists that kept me hooked. Watching them choose each other forever made this ending truly special.

Aja James wraps up the saga with heart and skill. Fans of fantasy romance won’t want to miss this finale.

ARC reread
I thought this was a poor ending for a fantastic series. This one and the book before were such disappointments. I loved the series, but the outcome was such a mess, sloppy at times. There was a feeble attempt of connecting all the dots and the loose endings but it was not done well.

I've always loved Ben. He was one of my favourite characters in the series and he deserved better…

I know, there’s a 3 stars rating even though I’m being very harsh . I cannot rate it under three stars because I love the series. I think that says a lot about how much I like it and about how disillusioned and disenchanted I am..
