Pucking Wrong #4

The Pucking Wrong Man

Rate this book
Whoever heard of a homeless ballerina?

Everyone in my life has always disappointed me, but NHL hockey star Camden James says he never will.

We meet, and then in a single blink, he’s made me his roommate, promising me I don’t have to worry about anything ever again.

They call him a hero, and that’s what I desperately need.

I remind myself it’s all temporary. That I shouldn’t get used to it.

But he has other ideas.

Camden tells me he’s obsessed, that he’s going to change my life, that he’ll never let me go.

But as more time passes, I wonder if it’s going to take a villain to get me my happily ever after.

And Camden James just might be the right man for the role.

*Note: Camden James is a morally grey antihero who is obsessed with his girl and will do anything to keep her. This is a darker hockey romance.

The Pucking Wrong Man is a hockey romance standalone.

OKAYYYY Camden is PSYCHO and I am fully here for it. Like he was definitely more on the level of Lincoln (who is still my fav bc LINC) At this point I give the whole series 5 stars and I know I am completely biased but I just can’t help it.

I do wish we got more of the Michael storyline but honestly that could just be me wanting all of these books to be longer lol

Age gap, yes daddy, psychotic man, an unhinged neighbor, and more interactions with the lovely circle of trust. my people.

Alright Camden let’s see your red flags!!!!!

I AM THIS SERIES' BIGGEST DEFENDER 🤣🤣🤣

4.25 ridiculous unhinged stars!

1 star for the circle of trust which is undoubtedly the BEST THING ABOUT THIS SERIES! Picture the "inner circle"(from acotar) but make it 100x more unhinged and absolutely HYSTERICAL😂 Their group chat messages are comedy gold😅

2 stars for Camden and his absolutely dirty mouth and heart of gold! Did he do some questionable things to get Anastasia? Most definitely. Exactly like every other mmc in this series; they are all unhinged and obsessive for absolutely no reason😅 Guess what though?? I could not care less because I swear this is crack it is soooo funny and entertaining. Also like every other mmc in this series, Camden falls head over heels in love literally the first time he sees Ana. Some may call this insta-love and insta-lust (it def is), but also.. when you know, you know right?😅 My man just knew what he wanted and did anything to get her🤷‍♀️

1 star for MY FAVORITE NARRATOR OF ALL TIME TROY DURAN AND HIS DELICIOUS GRAVELY VOICE 🥵🥵🥵

0.25 stars for THE ABSOLUTELY INSANE TATTOO CAMDEN GOT FOR ANA🤣🤣🤣🤣

-1 star for the fmc, Anastasia. She was meh and didn't stand out against the other fmcs in the series. Granted they aren't all that great but she was the most forgettable.

This series is pure trashy entertainment and is of course not meant to be taken too seriously. A great book to just have some mindless fun with great spice🥵

Idk, but I feel like I just read the book 1 all over again with this one. There were a few tweaks, kinks, and issues, but the impression was just the same.

Camden (31) was like a tamer version of Linc. I can't explain it, but that's the overall impression I got. The OTT possessiveness, obsession, and insta-love were funny, which made me enjoy the first half. 🫣🤭

Anastasia (21) was, of course, a damsel in distress, but had a more awful background than Monroe. Ngl, she did exasperate the ever-loving heck out of me. There's independence, and there's pure stubbornness just to refuse accepting any help. I did enjoy her sass, sure, and that she held her ground, but the last 20% and her poor choices made it so hard to root for her and even enjoy the story.

It was okay, but then again, this feels like Linc and Monroe 2.0. This could've been a bit shorter, though. I feel like there are a lot of unnecessary scenes that feel more like filler than part of the story. Also, the group texts were fun, but, idk, I got tired of them as the story goes. But I gotta admit, I love the correct usage of punctuation. 🤣

Another thing, probably some nitpicking of mine, was the heavy influence of "guilty as sin" by Taylor Swift in this story. I love TS, but not in my fiction. 🫣

Anyway, I hope this works for other readers. These men and their brand of crazy won't fail to put smiles on your faces. 🤭

On a date with Geraldine, Camden sees his forever under the spotlight on the stage before him.

With a tragic past that hasn’t quite loosened its grip, Anastasia has an infinite well of strength.

Hero is everything the nickname might conjure up. He is sweet, charming, and all in. He’s also obsessed, manipulative, and single-minded in his focus. No doubt he fits in with the boys, but he’s still no Linc. 😏

Oh, and the Circle of Trust text threads were a highlight, as always! But the biggest and - dare I say best - surprise: Geraldine. She’s my spirit animal and I sincerely hope we get more of her in the series!!

Well....that was awfully traumatic
First: Umm okay so did I love the characters? Yes. Did I laugh and giggle and smile? Heck yeah. But did I almost throw up and start bawling? Also yes. So yeah this was....dark. Not in a cute stalker way like the other ones, in a messed up sad traumatic kind of way. But I definitely still really liked it, at least most of it.
Second: I most definitely will be continuing this series even if this one wasn't my favorite.🫠

4.5 stars rounded

Listen… after the terrible week I’ve (we’ve) been having, if I can lose myself in a book and ACTUALLY smile and swoon… I’m gonna give it all the stars 🤷🏻‍♀️. There’s no rhyme or reason for it 🤷🏻‍♀️; my mood just made me. I’ve been such a mess this week that this was the perfect balm to soothe my saddened soul ❤️. Although this was in NO WAY a comfort read 😬 (because of all the triggers 😅), it sure felt like it with how protective and swoony Camden was 🫶. If I can forget real life for even a second, it’s a win for me ❤️.

Anastasia/Ana (21) has lived a tough life. Not only did she grow up in a broken, abusive home, but she was thrown into the foster system and continued living a terrible life since her dad broke her leg when she was ten after her mom abandoned them ☹️ (mostly because of her foster brother that made her feel like a piece of meat 😐). Her only escape is dance 🫶. Since she was a child, she dreamed of being a famous ballerina. With therapy and training, she’s managed to continue dancing, but life continues to not give her any breaks ☹️.

Camden (31) is an amazing hockey player and is kind of tired of living the life that’s expected of him (especially when it comes to sleeping around 🙄🥴). He takes out one of his closest friends (an elderly woman) to watch a dance performance that he thinks is going to be boring when he sees an angel on the stage, Ana.

And that’s when it all clicks for him 👀. This is THE one for him 👀.

So now he has to make sure she knows it too 😅.

Let the OTT stalking and protectiveness begin 🫠.

What I liked/loved: possible spoilers
—the duet-narrated audiobook 😮‍💨. Well, really, I just love Troy Duran and Alexis Paige ❤️ but them two in duet is FIIIIRE 🫠

—both having not-so-normal backgrounds 🫶. Although they both have messed up childhoods and PTSD from them, they make each other feel complete ❤️

—the tension 👀. Because Camden takes it slow since Ana’s had a tough life, there’s so much tension 🫠. He has to make sure she’s ready for ALLLLL of him 🤣 cause it’s gonna be forever so 😅 she needs to be prepared 😉

—the 🔥. Their first kiss happens about 40% ish with the main event happening a little after 60% 😅. Camden makes sure she knows what it means to 💦 since she’s never been with anyone before 😅 plus, he loves playing 🥵 and tasting 😉

—the dirty mouth of Camden 🫠. Lordt. Jeeezus 🥵 this “grandpa” can talk 😮‍💨 (can’t believe his teammates call him that 🤣🤣🤣)

—the times I giggled/laughed 🤣. ERMAGOD!!! Caaaamden 🤣. Reporting male followers on IG? Fumbling when he’s around Ana? Setting the strip club on fire? 🤣 (hey. I understand 🤡) the grandma flight and cookies 🤣. The female bodyguards? 🤣

—the guys texting thread and the circle of trust 🤣
… (if you know you know 🤡)

—how OTT jp Camden is 😅. This man hates that other men have eyes 🤣🤡

—how protective he is 🫶. He’ll do anything in his power to make sure she’s safe and feels validated ❤️

—the stalking/spying 😅. Being protective goes hand in hand with this 🤣

—the tattoo 😅. Just when I thought these men couldn’t get any crazier 🤣

—the comeuppance 😮‍💨. YAAAAAS CAMDEN! 👏🏻 you do that 💁🏻‍♀️💅

—the retroactive protection ❤️. I love me a man that will try his best to go back in time and make things right 💅

—letting her live her dreams and supporting her 🫶 (bahahaha even if her new partner ends up being married to another man… just in case 🤣)

—the side characters ❤️. I luuuurve seeing the precious MCs 👀 especially when one of them ends up having a baby in this book 🥹❤️

—found family 🫶. Ana might not have had a real family growing up, but she does now ❤️

—GERALDINE 🤣 this lady might be a grandma, but she still gots moves and can appreciate a younger man 🤡

—the epilogues 👀 especially the second one 👀

—the way daddy kink was done 👀. Not too extreme (like Jessa Kane 🤣) and the way the D/s relationship was done too 👀. Ana likes Camden to be in charge, and I understand why 😮‍💨💅

What i didn’t like/wanted more of: SPOILERS
—what he does to get her to depend on him 😬. While I understand that it ends up being the best thing to happen to her, using her fears and insecurities against her was a lot 😬😅. I tried not to cringe, but yeah… poor Ana (dogs? Really? 😑😅😬)

—feeling like this was very similar to book 1 😅. Hear me out. There were some parallels to book 1… the tortured h, previous manwhore H, almost-but-not-quite getting SAd h (in fact, in THIS one, I really can’t understand how that didn’t happen 😬… if this was another series/book, I bet the h would’ve been already and not been a v when the H comes into the picture). I’m not trying to necessarily point this out, but it ends up being a virgin h/previous manw H and I’m also NOT saying she needed to NOT be a v, but I just found it was interesting

Overall, I loved it

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing/owd*
-homelessness
-abusive father/child abuse/psychological and physical abuse
-mental health/PTSD/childhood neglect/abuse
-cynophobia (fear of dogs)
-blackmail/SA ish (the h’s foster brother had naked pictures of the h at different ages, underage included, that he uses to blackmail her into submission)
-violence/death/gore
-OMD: the h’s foster brother causes drama. Her dancing partner also flirts with her/causes drama (including belittling her)
-although there’s no owd in this book, in the previous books, we find out the H is nicknamed the hero and sometimes sleeps with the women he’s been a hero for 😒. We don’t get reminded of this in this book, but it was hard for me to forget 😑

He’s a hockey player, your Daddy & favorite stalker 🩰✨ the sweetest DARK hockey romance where he protects her AT ALL COST!!

“He wanted to take care of me... and I was terrified to let him do it.”

Camden ‘Daddy’ James falls head over heels for a homeless ballerina. This man is out here doing coffee foam art for her Day 1! Anastasia has had a terrible childhood & just cant understand why this handsome Golden Boy want to take care of her. Slow hockey romance where she just can’t believe her luck & he goes to dark measures to ensure “luck” is ALWAYS on her side ✨

Memorable moments:

💖 he reports all her male Instagram followers

💖 dick tattoo *screams in shock*

💖 she does a striptease for him and then says “did you like it, daddy?”

💖 orgasm blackout

💖 burns down a strip club where she interviewed

THIS. IS. SO. SWEET. Yes, it’s dark but he only does terrible stuff to secure her wellbeing…getting her fired, breaking abuser’s knee caps, getting her thrown out of the homeless shelter etc. This whole time she has NO IDEA that he is pulling the strings in the background and she just goes with the flow that terrible happen to other people lol

Absolutely nailed that lite Daddy kink. Slow burn and tension building with just a sprinkle of Daddying/Siring to be hot but not too much to be cringy. AND THE BRATTINESS! I was proper fanning myself 🪭

”Let’s get something crystal clear, right now, baby girl. If I ever hear you talk about yourself like that again, I’m going to put you over my knee.”

I was waiting for Camden, aka Hero's book, and he is everything you want and need. He always helping and when he sees Anastasia dancing, he's obessed and wants her. His broken ballerina 🥰🥰🥰.

She doesn't see him as a rich guy or anything. Ana is trying to survive being homeless and dodging her foster brother. Her luck has ups and downs, and when Camden is always around, she's sus about him, but also, wondering what a guy like him would want a broke girl like her. Now she's his permitted roommate, and the banter between the two is delicious she's a brat, and Cam loves it, lol. Plus, we got the circle of trust between the guys hehe. I can never get enough of them. It did take Ana a bit to trust Cam, and I can understand that with all the ppls who said "owe" her. She let Cam off easy when she found out the truth, lol. And he did alot of fucked up stuff to get Ana as his roommate.

The drama I wish Cam did some more damage towards all the bad guys who hurt his girl.

Saftey-om drama from the foster brother and a dancer.

Low angst, no ow/Om drama, no cheating, secondary charas, drama, sexy times, virgin gal no manwhore

My first Pucking book, The Pucking Wrong Date was a new experience for me and I enjoyed the off-the-leash craziness of it. The book itself wasn’t good, but it was a fresh, new experience and I liked it for that reason. Then I backed up and read the first two books of the series, each less enjoyable than the one before because, basically, if you’ve read one you’ve read them all. This fourth installment was the least enjoyable, coming dangerously close to being DNF’d and 1-starred. Why?

It was all the same old shtick. The MMC, hockey star Camden James, aka Hero, aka Grandaddy, catches a ballet performance of the FMC, Anastasia, and says “mine” at first sight.

With each leap and turn, she cast a spell. My life changed. There was only before her, and after her.

Anastasia is a sad, injured, misused, downtrodden, homeless and starving woman-in-crisis-and-danger, a professional victim who has endured every hardship imaginable except a case of bubonic plague, but somehow manages to keep her place with a premiere dance company while working the night shift at a local diner and avoiding her stalker(s).

In fact, the author gave both main characters tragic backstories, labeled one dominant and one submissive, and decided that was the extent of the characterization she needed to do. The plot: he intends to have her. She intends to fend for herself because girls like her don’t end up with guys like him. The minor villains: Anastasia’s dance partner, who verbally abuses her when he’s not fondling her. The artistic director of the ballet company. Her fellow performers at the ballet company. Her pink-haired coworker at the diner. Her foster parents. The major villain: a sociopath who has terrorized Anastasia since childhood and continues to stalk and threaten her.

The Circle of Trust has a few funny texting moments, a bawdy 75-year-old neighbor provides some comic relief, and her dogs play a pivotal role in justice being served, so the book wasn’t a total loss. The strain of trying to up the OTT craziness from one book to the next is starting to show, though.

My thanks to Izzah (who wisely bowed out early), CB, and Lori for the entertaining buddy read!

DNF at 32% - to stop and go take some Ibuprofen for my head shaking, eye rolling and cringing induced headache. (no rating as I started this book knowing that I might not enjoy it as I didn’t with the last Book 3)

For an awesome review that explains it better, see my friend Gloria’s review: Gloria’s review

My biggest hang up was that the fmc was insistent on following her lifelong dream of being a professional ballerina at the top ballet studio in the US. Following dreams is not an awful thing, but….

This fmc had her leg broken in two locations as a child by her drunken, abusive father. It seems that the leg healed incorrectly and was left deformed. Ten years later, the fmc suffers tremendous pain just to walk normally. You’re telling me, that in the highly competitive world of near perfect ballerinas with fully functioning legs, that our fmc gets picked to attend the top school, star as top ballerina, etc where she has to run, jump, twirl, etc on her deformed leg that pains her to just use pressure on it to walk around? It made zero sense.

There were several times I enjoyed the humor of being inside the mmc’s stalker thoughts. But I disliked the immaturity of the circle of trust texts. A few times it was funny, but others times… not for me. We had a dark, tragic story going for the fmc, then switch to rom com mmc, back and forth.

Maybe I gave up too soon, but the fmc seemed to have horrible decision making skills on top of having a target on her back for all bad things to strike her, and strike her they did.

This was an okay read. Not my favorite - Walker's book is obv my fave. There were a lot of cringey and over the top things happening here and I found myself getting bored because of the length of the book. I mean, this def could've been wrapped up in like 300 pages. But I digress. I pushed through because I'm all for the unhinged, OTT J/P heroes in this series. Anastasia was meh - nothing to write home about. Camden was okay as well if you can overlook the whole "baby girl" and weird daddy kink that was going on. You guys. There's the HOT daddy kink...and there's the daddy kink that gives you second hand embarassment. Camden was the latter. Still an overall decent read despite it having one of my most disliked tropes (virgin h).

safety squad
- no OW drama
- no major OM drama
- no cheating/sharing
- OTT J/P unhinged hero
- age gap (10 years)
- (weird ass) daddy kink
- no condoms
- mentions of abuse, neglect, homeless shelters, DV, etc so don't forget to check the TWs!

Pre-read review: Okay so I just found out that is releasing tomorrow (HOW TF DID I NOT KNOW???) and I'll DEFINITELY be reading it. Eventhough it has my most hated trope, *cough* virgin heroine *cough* I'm gonna give it a chance because the men in this series are DEVOTED. Plus it's age gap and if you know me, I'm an age gap WHORE. RTC when I finish reading!

“With each leap and turn, she cast a spell. My life changed. There was only before her, and after her.”

Geraldine😂😂😂 Anytime she came up in the book, she absolutely killed me😂 I lovedddd when her parts came up because I knew I was about to laugh to the point of tears😂
“After this, no one’s going to be listening to Agatha bragging about her cat flushing the toilet. As if anyone cares what that old liar has to say, anyway. My news will be much more exciting.”

“Unfortunately, the three hundred followers she had were all men. So, I’d spent thirty minutes reporting all of them—and then reporting her account, too, because it was nothing but a thirst trap for horny assholes. We’d be having a discussion about privacy and who to accept as friends at a later date.”

“I mean, I was so interested in this girl I might as well have a neon sign over my head that said “pick me, choose me, love me,” like I was an intern on Grey’s Anatomy.”

“The way she looked when she fell...that flare of pain in her eyes. Should I go back there and insist I take her to the hospital to get checked out? The fall didn’t look too bad, but maybe it was worse than I thought? No, no. I couldn’t just fucking kidnap her. Yet.”

“I mean, I was her stalker...but I didn’t want her to know that.”

“Seeing her tonight had been the same religious experience it had been when I saw her on that stage. Even clearly exhausted and done for the day, with dark circles under her eyes that had me wanting to punch something—she was, without a doubt, the most stunning creature I’d ever seen.”

“F**k, Anastasia. Act crazy. Take whatever you want from me. Own me like I want to own you. Hearing that I get to have what no man ever will is the best. F**king. Thing. I’ve ever heard in my life.”

“I’ve never wanted anything like I want you, Anastasia Lennox.” “You have me, Camden James,” I whispered back. “Now, take me to bed.”

“I love you like nothing I could have ever dreamed. I love your laugh, and your smile, and the way you care. I love how you light up every room you walk into. I’m obsessed with your body and your talent, and even the way you breathe. Everything you are, is everything I want, little dancer. Forever.”

“I would love you no matter what, baby girl,” he growled. “If I had to give up everything to have one day with you—one minute—I would do it. I worship the ground you walk on, not just for your beauty or your talent, but for you. The way you fixed something inside me the second I saw you. The way you complete me in a way I never could have imagined. I love the way you smile, the way you breathe...f**king everything. You own my soul, Anastasia. And if you decided to never dance again right this f**king second...none of that would change.”

“The pucking wrong man…turned out to be the right one.”

I loved Camden! Anastasia and his story was SO good!!! I laughed a ton, felt swoony in many moments, was sweating in others😏🥵 and cried when reading both their backstories came to life. This was such a good book, I highly recommend it!!

My moral compass was askewed the moment I read this series. So to read Camden and his red flags weren't satisfying for me. He's a man obsessed and that was it. Compared to Lincoln and Walker (my two faves in this series), Camden was underwhelming. Then add a heroine like Anastasia and it's all downhill from there.

With that being said, Camden being in the circle of trust is a disappointment. (insert massive ellipsis here)

PS. After all the abuse Anastasia suffered in her leg, she needed to stop dancing and get it rehabbed. But nope, her crying tended to suffice, I guess. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Best highlights of the book?
- Lincoln Daniels. 🤌🏻
- Lincoln and Monroe eye-fvcking.
- Walker and Olivia's baby.
- Granny Geraldine and Logan
- Ari being a simp for Geraldine.

Absolutely obsessed with this series, and I’m equally obsessed with Camden James. The way he is completely unhinged when it comes to Anastasia is the best!! If you like your book boyfriends to have red flags, then you need to read this series, the guys just keep getting crazier and I’m here for it!!! I don’t know the last time a book has made me laugh this much, the circle of trust texts are seriously the best!! I already can’t wait for the next book!

Reading the heroines in these series makes me want to calmly walk into a lake and never come out

The heroines' backgrounds have gotten exponentially worse since the first book and this one was just the end of the rope for me.

Everything that can go wrong for this girl, does.

〰🩰 Mother abandons her
〰🩰 Poor and starved
〰🩰 Has to walk miles to go from house to dance studio and viceversa
〰🩰 Alcoholic father abuses her until one day he breaks her leg in two different places
〰🩰 What I assume is the local petty crime lord takes an interest on her since before the book starts (she's a minor)
〰🩰 She's now abused by him since he works the system so his family fosters her
〰🩰 She's sexually abused

And that's just the prologue~~~

Chapter one adds to this with

〰🩰 Still starving, but homelessly now
〰🩰 Verbally abused at her new dance group
〰🩰 Verbally abused at her work where she isn't even a waitress making tips but a busboy! Who the fuck lets the pretty girl that could attract customers work as a fucking busboy?? What logic is this?
〰🩰 Exhausted beyond belief because she also lives with chronic pain because of her leg and she's suppose to have quit ballet ages ago, she still sleeps horribly because of the moans and screams of everyone at the shelter
〰🩰 Sexually harassed by the top dancer dude (superficially)
〰🩰 Sexually harassed by the petty crime lord (still)
〰🩰 Expelled from her homeless shelter now doubly homeless
〰🩰 Sexually and verbally harassed on a more personal level by the top dancer dude because even though he's supposed to be the best and she's been chosen to lead with him, he keeps grabbing her wrong and balancing her wrong and putting all the blame on her
〰🩰 Blackmailed into paying petty crime lord even though this girl can feed herself a piece of toast on a good day

and that's just 53%~~~

What truly made her miserable life stand out was the absolutely tone deaf group text the circle of trust is having.

There they are arguing what the 'dot dot dot's mean or whether having a 75 year old grandma lust after you is the worst thing that can ever happen to you, when we're suddenly trusted out of goofyland and into a Victor Hugo dystopia where the heroine is literally starving to death...

It's giving "have them eat cake instead".

That's it for me, folks ✌

P.S. Most people are basically trained to treat strangers in a polite manner. Whether remotely or nicely or curtly, still polite. For every single Karen willing to yell at a cashier because her expired coupon got rejected, there's 20 more just shrugging and moving on and a few more apologizing for the inconvenience. If every single human that comes into contact with the heroine cashier yells, scoffs or looks down at them, I'm thinking something is up with the heroine cashier.

BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM !!!!!!

Yes Sir ! Camden Fucking James is now sharing the number one spot in this series with Lincoln Fucking Daniels for me ! GOOD LORD I LOVED HIM !

Dark ✅
Unhinged ✅
Crazy ✅
Sexy ✅
Unapologetically ✅
Funny ✅
Best bromance ✅
Romantic ✅

I will literally read ANY Pucking Wrong CR.Jane writes, I’m obsessed with this series and I love them all, but this book skyrocketed to number 1 spot. There is a depth to this story that the others don’t. Camden a.k.a Hero has a need to save, to care, to protect women in particular and it’s all due to his trauma with his mom suffering from domestic abuse. So right there you can already relate to him in a different level because how amazing and sweet is that ? He has the need to be good and helpful, to volunteer and make the difference. But don’t get it twisted cause when it comes to love he is AS OBSESSIVE, POSSESSIVE, UNHINGED a CRAZY LUNATIC just like the other guys in this series. The lengths he goes to get Anastasia is unbelievable. But on the other hand he is super charismatic and charming with her, he is romantic and patient, he waited for her to fall in love with him. He is everything.
Anastasia had the worst life ever, I think she surpassed Monroe and Olivia on the sad story. She also has a depth that is different, she was injured, abused, mistreated, misjudged, homeless, and despite all her struggles she is strong and determined, she is independent and all she wants is to be a principal Ballerina. Camden obviously disrupts her life in order to fix and oh man he FIXES ! The way this book made me swoon, sad, think and LAUGH OUT LOUD …… I literally would read an entire book JUST with the guys group chat, I swear ! lol
The daddy Kink 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
The spice 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

Super steamy sports romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: ☹️😮😋😄🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Duet Narration

The heroine: Anastasia - her mom disappeared when she was young, and her dad changed. He became an alcoholic and was abusive and neglectful. Ana had been in dance since she was very young. Dance was her one respite from her horrible home life, and she loved it. She dreamed of being a prima ballerina and was glad that dancing so much made her so tired that it was easy to sleep despite going to bed hungry. After her father hurt her badly one night, she was given to a foster family with an older son who had been threatening to her. She was also told that the breaks in her leg might leave her with a limp.

The Hero: Camden - he was a star pro hockey player, in his early thirties and well into his career. He is one of the few guys on the team without a significant other. He is great at trash talking and his nickname is “Hero” because he had a compulsive need to help women in distress. He’s been tired lately and hasn’t been going out as much as he did earlier in his career.

The Story: Ana was homeless and living in shelters for the last three years. Her leg injury never healed right, and she is always in pain, though she still dances. Every day she had to pack up all her belongings and bring them with her. She finally got a lead position in a ballet and was determined to keep overcoming her pain to be able to perform. One night while out with his 72-year-old neighbor Geraldine, he takes her to a dance event. He was bored and slept through most of the performances but was enchanted by Ana when she danced.

The next day Camden was volunteering at a community kitchen, he was distressed that he couldn’t find much of Ana online, as she didn’t have much of a social media presence. He was already obsessed with Ana and determined to find her as soon as possible. He had gone to a kitchen similar to that when his mom left his stepdad for a short time when he was younger. When Camden finds out Ana is homeless, he is determined to save her. Little did he know that her former foster brother and tormentor was still after her.

“She was probably thinking that I was some kind of demented stalker and didn’t want to give me too much information. I would have told her I wasn’t a stalker, but overnight that had become one of the un-truest things that could be said about me. I was a stalker, her f*cking stalker.”

“His Daddy energy was off the charts. It made me want to curl up against him and have him wrap his muscled arms around me protectively”

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Troy Duran and Alexis Paige. I really enjoyed the narration in this book; not only was it done in duet narration, but Troy Duran is one of my favorite male narrators. He has a deep, sexy voice. Alexis Paige does a great job as well and sounds age appropriate for Ana. The narration was top notch, and the story held my interest throughout and there were a bunch of sexy intimate scenes as well.

OMG! (In Kylie from the Vallie accent) I have a terrible fear of Dawgs (cynophobia) that borders on making me hysterical, I soooooooo want a man who exploits this to make me looooove him
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I love OOTT male leads books, I really do.
I had no problem with stalking
had no problem with manipulation
I had no problem with coercing
absolutely no problem with ruining other people's lives just for touching her or raising their voices at her

I did give the 3rd book 4.25 just for that

what I do have is a problem with crossing limits
and there were two hard borderlines here that should have not been crossed at all

1- the author used a TT scandal that blew up a while ago involving a famous booktoker and a Hokey team. She used directly this theme to say that the Dallas Knight's warm-ups is blowing up on TT because of their explicit moves and that influencers are "sexualizing" that. This is distasteful especially after you knew the backlash that ensued. It's not like it was discreetly done! No!. TikTok was mentioned.

2- Using someone's phobia and childhood trauma to manipulate them into your life should never ever be your thirst trap even under the guise of the book being Dark Romance and that your MC is unhinged. Ana has a fierce phobia of dogs that borders on hysteria and panic attacks. So what does Camden do? he uses two dogs to further her fear to drive her to jump into his arms under the "it's for her own good"
This is pure grooming even when Ana is 21 because grooming is making someone so dependent on you that start controlling their lives. So, Camden is no better than Michael, the abusive step-brother.
Why was that different than getting her fired or kicked out of her place of sleep? Because these are replaceable and could be forgiven. But exploiting your deepest fears and childhood trauma isn't.

CR Jane, Babes, there is crazy that is just CrayCray and then there is Crazy that you should not touch or use in books

Personla Note you don't need to read if you want to I have cynophobia. I was attacked by guard dogs when I was little, so being around dogs is a hard No for me. Knowing someone used that to get close to me will immediately put you on the shit list even if you are the best person in the world.

Add to that
this book had no business being more than 500 pages long. Most of the pages were fillers and repetition of the same shit over and over just to get to the page count because it matters in KU.

Jane's female leads are the epitome of pathetic Woo is Me. They are passive. They do nothing. Things happen to them. They are easily manipulated
All they are good for is being pretty and available to further her One true love, the asshole male lead.

And that Geraldine plotline was disgusting.
this will be the last read by this author
I am sorry that there are people who enjoy this shit to make an author write that.
People's suffering is not your own writing material to exploit.

Down the rabbit hole again!

The saying....if it ain't broke, don't fix it... is certainly ringing true to this series!

Completely unhinged MMC is a guarantee, and, most certainly, a requirement and a damsel in distress FMC is the formula that seems to rinse and repeat.

I didn't like the daddy kink. The texts between the guys were annoying and distracting.

It truly felt like I was reading book 1 again with a few tweaks and turns to make it seem like a new read.

Will I read the next book.....most probably!

Onto the Christmas Novella now!

I’ll admit I had higher hopes for this one. This has been such a stellar series. I didn’t hate this, I overall liked it but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed.

Camden was pretty awesome. He’s everything you’ve come to need and love about the intensely OTT, obsessive, possessive MMC’s in this series. He’s hooked the moment he lays eyes on her. He was remarkably patient with her - which I guess she needed but it was tiresome eventually. I wanted him to steamroll her much earlier on. He meddles with her life like you expect.

Anastasia is the problem here. She’s had a bad life. Honestly, I think it was too much. Less is more. She’s still in a bad life. Homeless, zero money, leg pain, ptsd, psycho foster brother tormenting her it was too much too. I want these stories about the relationship not about past trauma etc.

Anastasia has a terrible life and she doesn’t want help. She’s too stubborn and resistant for me. When things are this terrible in your life you’ll do anything for some comfort and help. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

All the stuff with the circle of trust was really entertaining and funny. These men are very resourceful.

Medium burn, they finally get it on around 62%.

Virgin h
No condoms
Push away from h
No OW drama
OM drama
No cheating
no scenes with others
No 3rd act breakup
No separation

Safety - Anastasia has a lot of trauma and abuse in her past. Her foster brother is mostly responsible. He’s an issue through most of the book. There’s another dancer who is interested in her too. Camden takes care of him (took him too long though, imo)

After two weeks of thinking I lowered it to a 3 from a 3.5

MCs:

Roommates
Age Gap
J/P mmc
Rich Boy x Poor Girl

Info:
Prologue
Dual POV
Stalking
Manipulation
Mentions of underage SA
Childhood abuse
Mentions of DV
Kidnapping (attempted)
Violence & Death
No ow drama
om drama (dancer guy and foster brother)
No cheating
No sharing
Virgin h (no manwhore?)
Open door spice
Somnophilia
Light “daddy” vibes
Spanking
Praise
No third-act breakup
Epilogue
HEA

My thoughts:

It was going to be 3 stars, but the things Camden did to the people that hurt Anastasia deserve an award.

This did have the “guys like him don’t end up with girls like me” trope which I usually hate, but I understood where she was coming from, so it didn’t irritate me much.

I’ve been wanting to read a book from this series, and this looked like the safest to me.

This felt a little long given it was instlove.

I wish they talked more about their pasts to each other.

I wish the epilogue was better. They were still in the same hockey season, so it wasn’t far into the future.

In the end, I liked it, but I just got a little bored.

Quotes:

“Let’s get something crystal clear, right now, baby girl. If I ever hear you talk about yourself like that again, I’m going to put you over my knee.”

“Anastasia Lennox was a sickness in my bloodstream that I had no desire to cure.”

“Fuck, Anastasia. Act crazy. Take whatever you want from me. Own me like I want to own you. Hearing that I get to have what no man ever will is the best. Fucking. Thing. I’ve ever heard in my life.”

“I’ve never seen something as perfect as you, Anastasia. I’m not convinced any of this is real yet, because perfection like yours doesn’t seem possible.”

“From the moment I saw you, I knew my life would never be the same. You are the reason I breathe. You’re inside me, I can’t even remember what life was like without you. I can’t live without you.”

“The pucking wrong man…turned out to be the right one.”

*SPOILERS* (all the crazy stuff he did for extra safety info)

A little list of his “activities”:

~ Reported all her male Instagram followers
~ Got her kicked out of the homeless shelter
~ Stalked her
~ Put a tracking device on her
~ Released dogs on her to scare her into moving with him (they didn’t actually get close to her)
~ Tattooed the evidence of her virginity on his dick
~ Burned down the strip club she interviewed at
~ Locked her in the bedroom so she wouldn’t leave (wasn’t for long and she wasn’t going to breakup with him just needed some space I think)
~ Took care of her foster brother and the dancer

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

pre-read

The other books in this series scare me… but this one doesn’t look too bad. Right?

REVIEW

Rating: 4/5
POV: 1st, dual
Tropes: Age Gap (10/11 years); Sports - MMC Hockey, FMC Ballet; Overly Obsessed MMC; Stalker MMC (low key); Virgin FMC
Heat Level: 5+/5
Kinks: Daddy Kink; Spanking;

Likes:
* Loved Hero (MMC). I enjoyed that we still got the circle of trust however Hero was slightly removed from them which made sense since he’s like 6 years older than all the guys.
* Side Characters - this author writes really good side characters. In this one we get Geraldine and her dogs 😌

Dislikes:
* some of the plot was a bit too “as if”. Especially regarding the FMC and her present life. I can see how it can completely remove someone from the story.

Conclusion:
This one hit all the main stuff I have enjoyed in this series. A very likeable strong MMC who is incredibly unhinged and literally does anything to get the girl. I do believe the author went a bit too unrealistic with her FMC in this one. The FMC has a traumatic leg injury as a child and somehow in her adult years is a professional ballerina. All this really told me is that the author knows nothing about ballet. So really with such a bit plot hole if you will I really am being generous with the 4 stars but the vibes just worked for me with the timing of when I read this book. Also the sex was next level hot 🔥🥵.
Also just a small note - I was actually kinda disappointed in Michael’s ending… I was hoping he was actually ☠️ not just mauled 😬🤭.

Thanks for attempting to BR - Lori, Gloria, and Izzah 😂

UPDATED with additional read dates. This is not nearly as good as Book 1 & 2, but better than Book 3 - except it's such a slow burn and there's barely any sex. You know I need my D.

"I love you like nothing I could have ever dreamed. I love your laugh, and your smile, and the way you care. I love how you light up every room you walk into. I’m obsessed with your body and your talent, and even the way you breathe. Everything you are, is everything I want, little dancer. Forever."

Camden James (31, hockey god, "Hero", savior complex) is escorting his elderly neighbor to the theater when lightning strikes in the form of a twinkle toes in a tutu. He makes it his mission to find out everything about her. When he's doing one of his many good deeds by serving food to the homeless, his little dancer shows up to get fed.

With each leap and turn, she cast a spell. My life changed. There was only before her, and after her.

Anastasia Lennox (21, virgin, ballerina) was not only abandoned by her mother as a child, but her father abused her, and then she was sent to live with a cruel foster family who allowed their son to torture her. Poor little pudding cup has had a shit life and now she's living in the same homeless shelter that Monroe resided in back in Book 1.

Camden is 100% going to take care of his "baby girl", whether she likes it or not, so he resorts to the same manipulative methods that all the other men have done. We follow the same pattern as all the previous books and end with an HEA.

I thought when Camden James came swooping in, that it wasn't going to work. I’d been so sure he was all wrong for my disaster of a life. Evidently, what I’d been missing... A possessive, intense, overwhelming NHL star willing to battle all my demons in whatever way was necessary. The pucking wrong man…turned out to be the right one.

SEX: It takes a long time for Cam to convince her to be his girl. He finally punches that V card at 63%. After that, there's not much sex. If you're going to repeat the same 4 previous books, you should def make it worth while by adding good sex.

ANA: Ugh. I'm tired of this FMC trope... homeless victim. I think there were 3 different people who wanted to rape her in this book. Insert a huge freaking eyeroll here. It gets so annoying. Plus she does the whole self-deprecation thing: "This was it, this was when he would be done with me. Who wanted an insecure, stubborn street rat when they could have anyone else?" Ugh!!! Then of course she doesn't want to accept help from Camden. In her specific case, I sort of understood, but still. It's consistent with all the FMCs in this series. I would love to see a strong, non-damaged FMC for once.

REPEATS: I'm so tired of the recycled material, i.e., simp, circle of trust, feral, grandma airlines, getting some sort of tattoo/piercing to their dicks (although I do like that part), etc. In book 2 Ari was jealous when Blake has to model with a male partner so he finds a way to replace him. An almost identical scenario happens with Cam & Ana.

AUDIO: I've read and listened. Sexy-as-fuck Troy Duran narrates for Cam and you know I have zero complaints. Alexis Paige narrates for Ana and she's actually really good. Unfortunately, it's not a duet. Booooo!

TRIGGERS: The only two additions to the trigger list. .

NO WAY: It really irritates me when an author wants to write a dark subject/character and then doesn't follow thru with believable info. I know that doesn't make sense so let me explain. I guess it's a spoiler so here..... . I hope that makes sense.

I wouldn't say it's a must read, but it's still not horrible for this victim/savior trope.
