Subtitled the Felix Cooch Chronicles this would seem to be an attempt by an author best known for his gay romance writing to enter the mainstream. If you can get past the frequent ‘f bombs’ this is a decent adventure mystery novel. Freshly graduated from journalism school our hero finds himself on the run from the mob with his mother and her best friend. After finding their feet in California Cooch goes off to fight the war in Vietnam where his misadventures continue. At heart a decent likable character Felix’ story will engage the reader and carry you along.

By the second half of the novel Felix/Jason has become far less likable sinking to murder, larceny, revenge. The author’s editing also becomes sloppy as if the book were tossed off to make some money on the e-Book market. It’s as if someone else wrote this book and used the author’s name. I’m disappointed. Alas, it gets worse, the book ends in the middle of the story with the plot totally unresolved--and I paid good money for this manipulation.
