The sequel to Juni-Q and the Secrecy of Desire finds Juni-Q putting on a movie producer's hat while dealing with countless online trolls and one very powerful stalker whose anonymous assistance may be merely setting her up for a much darker fate.
Julian Martin discovered screenwriting while earning his English degree at the University of Northern Iowa. He has since written ten screenplays in various genres, including horror, science fiction, and comedy. He intends for the Juni-Q novels to be a trilogy, and then who knows what's next? He consumes large amounts of seafood with his wife, son, and dogs in Iowa.
What an interesting read! This book definitely intrigued me enough that I started by going and reading the first installment of Juni-Q before taking on this one. While I won’t get into my review of that one, let me say it did nothing but add to my intrigue of reading this book.
The premise of this book seems to be that Juni-Q is producing a movie and finds herself in the unfortunate world of the entertainment industry and all its nastiness.
I truly enjoyed everything about this book. The writing was wonderful, the story was captivating, the characters were entertaining and well thought out. I truly look forward to reading more from Julian Martin in the future.
Juni-Q is at it again... and it's awesome! The second book of the Eyes of Juni-Q series finds Juni-Q producing a movie and traversing the seedy underbelly of the film industry. All your favorite characters are back with a couple new ones to love, as well. This is a fantastic follow-up and well-worth the read. I flew through it and can't wait for the third installment!
Julian Martin has done it again, Juni-Q and the Allure of Hypocrisy was a great read from beginning to end. Juni-Q's story was captivating, fun and suspenseful.
After thoroughly enjoying Julian Martin's first book, Juni-Q and the Secrecy of Desire, I started following the author. Was delighted to get an email notifying me of a sequel and immediately downloaded: Juni-Q and the Allure of Hypocrisy. I was sucked in and had to finish it in it's entirety today. Juni-Q is two years older from where we left off, but no less quirky. She is now in the midst of producing a movie and dealing with Hollywood's underbelly. Fun, extremely realistic dialogue, and beautiful descriptives abound. Many new characters introduced, some of the old characters fall off, but the best maintain. This goes towards the title, as we see the importance of loyalty in friendship and choices. Excellent bridge to the third book of the triology. Can't wait!
I was given an ARC of this to read. The story is a twistingly dark satire executed with aplomb. Juni-Q is a tragically neurotic, infantile big old mess and the writer has depicted this startingly well. The dialogue is so young and fresh, even I couldn't keep up with all the colloquialisms. It is a little OTT in parts but I feel that is done purposefully. Juni-Q is not very likeable at the best of times but the friendships rendered were very heart-warming. I feel that Juni-Q and Flenner were both exceptionally well-written. A fun story which reads like a screenplay—dialogue being a plus point.
The author has really done a great job of creating the world that Juni-Q inhabits. No matter how far fetched the situation it is all believable. The accuracy with which film festivals are described having attended some, really immerses you in the world. Then as the reader you are drawn into whatever direction the book takes you. Great elements of a thriller takes the boom to another level and kicks into a higher gear all the way till the end.
I loved so much about this book. It drew me in from the beginning and kept me glued throughout with its rawness and intriguing situations. I'll be checking out more by this author.
