THE FINAL CHAPTER is a sequel to The New York Times best selling book The Texas Connection. THE FINAL CHAPTER, through witness accounts, explains the Kennedy family’s “deal with the devil” struck in order to win the 1960 presidency. It then tracks the assassination, originally as a mere back-up plan, to an exact date and location where the plan was probably commenced (Miami). It then follows the rewards bestowed upon the participants--including a Supreme Court appointment, as well as an invaded Caribbean island nation used for gambling and for off-shore drug trade.
I'll admit I am a complete novice on all things related to the Kennedy assassination, but not a novice on investigations. This was my first book dealing with the Kennedy assassination and I was never bored or felt the narrative strayed from a central point.
Zirbel writes in a relaxed style that kept the information as non technical as possible, and while he left out specific source documents I felt would have made his case better, felt there was a fair amount of documentation to support his hypothesis.
I'm not sure if I am full convinced that Johnson was the prime mover or even within the conspiracy if there was one, but as the author proves, he certainly had motive.
For this alone the book is good in showing the dynamics of leadership in the White House during the early 1960s. This pushed it from 3 to 4 stars for me., as it broadened to book into another catagory.
