After killing his former lover and the woman he loved, angel Shamsiel is stuck on Earth. While struggling to get back to what he considers the right path of an ascended being, Shamsiel meets Blake, a male pole dancer and a daimon that feeds on everything the angel runs away lust, desire, physical love. Blake will challenge him to face his deepest fears and reevaluate his ideas on love, purity, and divine grace.
Warning! 18+ This is an m/m story, which means two males fall in love and enjoy each other in every way imaginable. If that, along with some fowl language, offends you, then try reading something else.
I am a writer, traveler, blogger, and coffee addict. I started writing stories when I was 10 and kept doing it as a hobby till a few years ago. I prefer fantasy and sci-fi when it comes to writing and I am currently working on a vampire series, Bad Blood. Book I of the series, The Edge of hope, was published in April 2014.
Before reading the review, let me just say that I am one happy and proud friend to this lady. Yes, there! I have admitted the ultimate sin: she is my friend. But this will never spare her from me, as an MM genre reviewer. Her fault she never let me on to her secret of publishing this. I had to discover this all by myself!
Flawless Design is the second book to the Lost Angels Series. Both these book tell the story of angels, one of which was killed by Shamsiel in book one. You see, Ramiel, his brother, his lover, his friend, fell in love with a human woman, and Shamsiel got a bit peeved and ended up killing both. This is enough to lead Shamsiel to hate himself, be depressed and casting himself out of Paradise. He holes himself down on earth. And meets a pole dancer.
Blake is not what he appears to be. The angel knew this man was sexy as heck, graceful on the pole, sets his body on fire, and is not human. It takes him some time to figure out that Blake is part daimon, part Muse and Shamsiel just freaks out. Finding out what Shamsiel did to Ramiel and Alma freaked Blake out.
And so the drama begins.
I found Shamsiel to be a bit of a brat and Blake a bit of a flake at first. However, as I continued to read, I started to understand who their characters were. It was also quite a surprise that in such a few words, this character development evolved beautifully and revealed who these men really were behind their personas. I did not expect this.
One has to wonder, how the author managed create such a complete story in just 35 pages. The required elements of erotica, drama, romance and angst are all present and accounted for but it did not read rushed. This is the same reaction I had when reading the first book, Pure Love of the Fallen.
Flawless Design is a beautiful short story. However, unlike other free reads and short stories, this left me very satisfied; happy that I got the closure for Shamsiel as well as the HEA ending for both my men.
Thank you, Alina. This was a beautiful Christmas present.
I will admit when I started reading this story, I was hung up by the unique names, but as I read I found the story to be interesting and the bluntness of the characters appealing. Alina is a talented author whom I look forward to reading more from in the future.
Short, Sexy and Steamy... say it with me now... My three favorite colors!!!
Shamsiel is a fallen angel stuck on earth having willingly cut himself off from everyone in Heaven. In a fit of rage, anger and jealousy he killed one of his brethren and the woman he loved. Blake is a daimon, an incubus that feeds off the lust and carnal emotions of man and a certain dark and brooding angel. He is the product of an affair between an incubus and a muse so he doesn't have all the powers a full incubus would, but he uses what he has quite well. Shamsiel tries to fight the attraction and the unnerving pull he feels toward Blake, but soon he is swept away in his emotions and wanting the sexy daimon. But Shamsiel is so afraid of truly loving someone that he pushes away the daimon that just might be his savior.
I devoured this book in about thirty minutes flat, and even went back and re-read a few scenes. I loved how Popescu wove her smoking hot little tale of lust and uncertainty by adding real elements of emotions you normally wouldn't associate with angels and daimons. It's a supernatural love story with a flare for the dramatic and a teensy bit of angst. A few brief, very brief, times the wording didn't read right to me, but that was the only critique I found. Well that, and it was to damn short! And that ending, so not fair, I want details! But this was seriously just a fun, fast, sexy ride. And it's free, so what do you have to lose?!
Well written and loved the story. I have to admit I didn't read the first book in the series and I really wish I did but even without reading the first book I understood the story and loved it. No holds barred. I liked how blunt the characters were. Shamsiel and Blake really did annoy me at first but the more I read my opinion of them changed and I came to admire them both.
Flowless Design is a great story even if it is a short one. It didn't leave me with a "What the heck" feeling when I got to the end.
I love an m/m read, so sometimes sneak in a short one between other books.
This is a short read but is still very good.
Blake is so brash he knows his hot and Shamsiel is an angel, still beating himself up about previous actions. Together they are perfect but can Shamsiel open up?
An enjoyable read with some hot scenes for added pleasure.
I enjoyed this, it may not have been as slick as other books I have read but I liked the story and in particular I was intrigued by the universe the author created for her characters. Very well thought out, will be happy to read more :-)
