Joining her is recent recruit Detective Daniel Murray, eager to use his newfound abilities to track down whoever is terrorizing Paris and its surrounding areas.

With each ashen victim grows the realization that those responsible weren’t inspired by vampiric creatures of the night but by Elizabeth Báthory herself. This is a well-written, entertaining, fast paced, romantic suspense novel which is set in France. It has a likable, intelligent, strong and capable female protagonist, an engaging male protagonist, murder, mystery, paranormal elements, romance, twists and turns, and a satisfying conclusion. This is the third entry in Ms. Graham's outstanding Blackbird Files series, and it can be read as a stand alone. I listened to the audio version of this novel, and the narrator, Mr. Roger Wayne, who has a captivating voice, does a wonderful job voicing the characters.

The most recent and ongoing publication of "The Blackbird Files."

Special Agent Jeanette LaFarge returns with a new partner, the young Detective Daniel Murray from Scotland.

Murders are happening in Reims, France. All the murders have a vampiric feel about them. But there are no such things as vampires so thinks Special Agent LaFarge.

Once again Ms. Graham has created other fascinating characters for her storyline. And most of them are apparitions from centuries ago. They assist Jeanette and Daniel solve these mysterious murders throughout the countryside of Reims.

I’ve been reading this author for literally decades, and I was happy to start this one as I’ve been reading about the Krewe et al for a while. I started this and was drawn in pretty quickly. From then on, though, I was entertained but not drawn in too much. I didn’t really feel the chemistry between the two main characters, the way they “found” a lead was a little too deus ex machina, and there wasn’t much paranormal at all other than talking with a couple ghosts, and that even seemed a little blah. I don’t know if it’s because I feel like I’m in a book slump at the moment, or I’m just not feeling the need to read (that hardly ever happens). Overall, this book is well-written, interesting, and has a good plot, but it just felt a little too contrived and if I read the history of Elizabeth Bathory one more time, I would have thought it was six times too many. This book is OK to me but not bad at all even if this review reads like it’s awful, it’s not. 3 ½ stars. It’s OK. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Whenever I see a Heather Graham book up for grabs, I do not hesitate. I grab it. I want to thank NetGalley and and Mira for the opportunity to read Legacy of Blood (The Blackbird Files, #3).

Special Agent Jeanette LaFarge is on her way to Paris, not for a wine tasting, but to discover why murder victims are being drained of their blood. History is repeating itself, and it’s not vampires that are running the countryside.

I am familiar with the Krewe of Hunters and am excited to meet the team of Blackbirds.

Jeanette will be paired up with Daniel Murray, who is new to being a ghost whisperer. They will need all the help they can get to discover who is behind the killings.

It didn’t take me long to single out one suspect, among the many others. I find out I am right about her and to discover those she is working with, that was not so easy.

I love ghost whisperer novels, where the ghosts are peripheral characters that help solve the mystery. To have some romance thrown in adds another element, and I am not surprised because of how closely the characters work together.

We have plenty of danger and suspense as the complex mystery deepens and I am all in.

So stilted and boring. Very repetitive in telling the story of the Blood Countess over and over.

I didn’t finish this book. Gave it about 100 pages. Just horrible. Dialogue weak, characters all over the place, strange story. Was hoping I could plow through but why would I

Legacy of Blood by Heather Graham was a great read and I could barely put it down.

Special Agent Jeannette LaFarge and Detective Daniel Murray are part of the Blackbird team working a case in France. Where several women have been killed that were visiting Paris and part of their visits they attended a vineyard tours in Reims region of France. These unfortunate women were bled dry like vampire without marks but not tortured like historical truth/myth of Elizabeth Bathory

Jeanette and Daniel are part of an investigation team that has special abilities to speak AND see the dead. The dead has helped the solve and support in the investigation of cases. In this case they were fortunate to have two Henirette Beaumont and Jake Clayton of the ninety-second airbourne division help.

The vineyards they are investigating are Matisse - owner Delphine and son Jules -, Tomas and Giselle Deauvile, and George and Leticia Montague. The Matisse are loved by the region because they are always nice and friendly. However the Deauville and Montague are elitist and harsh with their employees.

The blackbird team work closely with France police especially Gervais LeBlanc. Great inspector who takes it hard on the number of murders and works hard to solve the case.

Heather Graham has come a long way. She started with romantic suspense and has started to lean more so into the mystery/suspense aspect than the romance. Not bad at all.

I read several in this series and the plot is always the same: male and female paranormal investigators meet on the case, fall in lust/love, the woman places herself in danger and then is rescued by the love interest and/or the team. Usually there is some interesting macabre history or trivia related to the setting. In this book it was the story of Elizabeth Bathory. Unfortunately the exact same few pieces of history are repeated over and over again. The method of the murder was never investigated, the motives for the murders (when finally revealed) was very weak-the neighbors are pissed because a fellow vintner is allowing her son to pursue his passion (“I love magic”) instead of taking over the winery and the magician’s assistant joins them because the magician is not letting her take center stage. 🤦‍♀️

I picked this up at the library because I used to really love Heather Graham books. Mere pages into this book I wondered if it had been written by a ghost writer, and about 60 pages in, I was almost convinced AI had written it. Normally, I don't like to give a completed book 1 star, but when the book is supposedly written by a best-selling author, there are standards the reader expects. This book did not meet those standards.

Whenever a book leads with a "cast of characters" and brief description of them, I'm skeptical about the quality of the story. It turns out I was right to be skeptical. The dialogue between characters was awkward, and the responses didn't match the comments made.

Then there were whole sections of historic information that seemed like they were copied and pasted from Wikipedia into dialogue, not once, but multiple times with the same information. I could nitpick at the French names, etc. in the story, but I'm not going to waste my breath. The characterization of the protagonists was confusing and ineffective. Lastly, the "romance" was so awkward and contrived that it wasn't believable beyond "two hot people were attracted to each other, so they hooked up."

I DNF this book, just skipped to the end to see who the culprit was before I returned it to the library. Maybe 2-3 more rounds of editing should've been completed before this went to publication. I wish I could've given this book better reviews!

Young women are turning up dead in French vineyards.

Special Agent Jeannette LaFarge’s first assignment with the European-based branch of the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters, known as Blackbird, has her tasked with investigating a string of deaths, young women whose bodies have turned up near vineyards in the storied French region of Reims. Like other members of both the Krewe and Blackbird, Jeannette has the ability to see and communicate with the dead; these abilities are not acknowledged outside of their group, but are a valuable addition to their investigative skills, particularly when cases have a decidedly unusual bent. In this case, the three young women found have been drained completely of blood. While the press is trumpeting out the possible existence of vampires, Jeannette and her team are not inclined to agree. As Jeannette gets to know her new colleagues, especially her partner Daniel Murray (a new addition to Blackbird as well, having just discovered his own special gift on Blackbird’s last case when he still worked for the National Crime Agency of Scotland), she and the team discover connections between the three victims. Why were they targeted, and by whom? Is there a connection between the deaths of the women and the wineries in whose vineyards their bodies were found? As Jeannette sees similarities between this case and that of the the infamous Elizabeth Báthory aka The Blood Countess, who in the 16th century was accused of killing scores of young women and bathing in their blood. Is someone in the present day following in that alleged serial killer’s footsteps? There are quite a few possible suspects, including some haughty winemakers who consider themselves superior to the rest of the world….but sometimes evil hides behind a pleasant smile.
This is the third installment in the Blackbird Files, the latest offshoot of prolific author Heather Graham’s Krewe of Hunter series. The story follows the usual pattern of the preceding books, with newly paired agents feeling their way through a new partnership which just may have been arranged for reasons not entirely random (since these partnerships frequently end up being of a personal as well as a professional nature). Jeannette and Daniel are both young and new to Blackbird (and in Daniel’s case, new to the Krewe of Hunters as well). The setting is glamorous, in the vineyards of Reims known mostly for its many producers of champagne as well as periodically in Paris. Characters from the previous Blackbird books make an appearance, but this story focuses mainly on Jeannette and Daniel, as well as on two spirits with whom they connect who prove helpful in their investigation. This novel felt a bit more formulaic than the first two; its a quick read and an interesting premise, but the characters aren’t terribly well-developed. Readers of the Krewe of Hunters books and/or the Blackbird Files will likely want to pick this up, and fans of authors like Kay Hooper, Jayne Ann Krentz and Catherine Coulter might also find it of interest. My thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing/MIRA for allowing me early access to this novel.

Heather Graham is in a class by herself. She has written so many books even before the Krewe of Hunters. Many of those books I have read and enjoyed and marveled that she could still come up with fresh ideas after so many books. The Blackbird Files have been unique, fun, and borrowed from history. We’ve all heard the expression about if we don’t learn from history, we will repeat in. For the criminals in this series, they have learned from history to repeat it with their own modern-day twist.
This book was another example of why Heather Graham’s book continue to be devoured by readers, me included. As with the other Blackbird Files stories, we are given a lovely locale described in such a way to make it real for us. It also sounds like a great tourist destination if not for the murders. Paris and wine country provide the backdrop for this ripped from history violent recreations of indescribable crimes. Victims drained of blood and tortured and similarities to a past crime by the Blood Countess kept me turning the page guessing which clues to follow and which to ignore as red herrings. The Blook Countess was described as vile, so it was easy to narrow in on a possible killer based solely on personality, but suspicions were not enough. We traveled along with the expanding Blackbird teams to gather clues and ultimately save more people from the horrible fate.
We had the entire Blackbird gang back together from all 5 previous books as well as Daniel who proved to be very endearing in the last 2 as he came into his gift. Jeanette’s empathy made her a perfect addition to the team as she seemed gifted in drawing people (both living and ghosts) into a trusted conversation to gain help. It would not be a Krewe book without name dropping Jackson, Angela, and Adam. The entire team was needed as the victim pool was vast as was the suspect pool and the locations involved. That kept the drama up throughout the story. This was quite the rollercoaster ride with history and modern times colliding in murder.
The worst part about this book is reading it and knowing this is the last Blackbird Files book until 2025. I absolutely love the format these stories have taken and hope the Blackbird team keeps investigating these stories with a historical twist. The Krewe of Hunters series comes highly recommended. While there is an order to the books, they can be read standalone, but I would suggest reading them all. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Paranormal Police Procedural Romantic Suspense set in France in which an FBI agent and detective, who's unit all have unique abilities, track down the person copycatting the infamous "vampire" Elizabeth Bathory.

4/5 stars: This is the third entry in Graham's Blackbird Files series, which is a Paranormal Police Procedural Romantic Suspense that takes place in France and features an American FBI agent and a Scottish detective, who are members of the European branch of a special international unit whose members all have psychic abilities their's being the ability to speak to ghosts, as they track down a killer exsanguinating young women a la the infamous "vampire" Elizabeth Bathory. With plenty of twists and turns, Graham has crafted a police procedural mystery that's fast-paced yet balances the suspects, clues and red herrings and will leave you on the edge of your seat until the final reveal. I really appreciated how Graham explored the different opinions about the history behind the “legend” of Elizabeth Bathory. And of course Graham's character work is excellent; the characters are well-rounded and complex while remaining incredibly likable. I very much enjoyed meeting Jeanette and getting to know Daniel more and seeing the work together. This is very much a police procedural mystery with the romantic relationship in the background (the sex scenes are fade to black). I love the paranormal elements, especially the attention paid to the history of the ghost characters. Due to the sensitive topics tackled, take care and check out the CWs. While you could read this as a stand-alone, you'll gain so much more by reading the series from the beginning; so be sure to pick up book one, Death Behind Every Door. If you'd like to read more from this “universe”, this is a spin-off of the Blackbird series (Whispers at Dusk, BK 1) and the Krewe of Hunters series (Phantom Evil, BK 1).

Special Agent Jeannette LaFarge, a member of the Krewe of Hunter's, has been assigned to Blackbird which is an international team. She's assigned to a case in France investigating vineyards in the Reims region where multiple victims have been found. Blackbird's newest recruit Detective Daniel Murray joins Jeannette and they both hope their unique abilities will come in handy. As the latest victims have been drained of blood, rumors begin of vampires but Jeannette believes that Elizabeth Bathory is the inspiration for the killings. Can Daniel and Jeannette put a stop to things before even more blood flows?

I've really enjoyed the Blackbird books and this one's no exception. It was well-written with well-rounded characters and a fast-paced plot. I was drawn into this captivating story and kept hooked from beginning to end. The book has intrigue, mystery, romance, and suspense and it's one you won't want to put down. I'm giving tbe boom 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5, because I believe tbe romance needed a bit more heat and I would have liked a tad more on the paranormal aspect. Otherwise, the book was excellent. Heather Graham is an amazing author and storyteller and it definitely shows. I loved this book and hope there's more to come either from the Krewe or from Blackbird. I highly recommend both book and series which I believe is best read in order.

Bodies are turning up - beautiful young women who are going missing while visiting Paris. When one young woman is finally identified as a friend of several of the murdered girls, the story starts to slowly come out. Who would want to target these women?

While retracing the steps of some of the young women, the Blackbird team quickly realizes that many of them took the same tours, ate at the same places, and watched some of the same shows. As the connections are made, they begin to ask questions, and learn more about the women, as well as those who might have come in contact with him. With the team on the ground, they begin to visit the locations where the bodies were dumped. But as they walk the grounds, they find older remains, confirming that whoever has been going after these young ladies has been doing so for quite some time.

Even in wine country, tempers can run wild. There are a few families who seem to have a feud ongoing, and are vying for the business of tourists. Can the team solve the case before fresh bodies start to appear?

What a read! I have enjoyed this series, and this latest book did not disappoint! I look forward to what Heather Graham brings forth next.

I have really enjoyed reading Heather Graham as an author since she started writing her Harlequin Romances. I fell in love with her Krewe of Hunters series and have devoured every one of them. I have even read them more than once. So, I couldn’t wait to see what she did with the International Krewe of Hunters called the Blackbirds. I have really liked the series so far and especially with making connections with the characters and having them pop in and out of each story. Jeanette LaFarge and Daniel Murray, agents of the Blackbird group have been called in by the French police to help investigate three murders where the bodies of young woman have been drained of all their blood and left in the fields of wine country. The press is saying that a vampire is on the loose, but Jeanette and Daniel know that there is a real live person behind these killings. Read and find out if Jeanette and Daniel and other members of the Blackbird team can solve these bizarre murders. Will Jeanette and Daniel find romance while searching for a killer? Thank you to Mira and Netgalley for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Young women are being found on the side of the road, drained of blood. Is it the work of a modern-day vampire? Or someone who admires the bloody Countess Bathory? The Krewe of Hunter's Bluebird team is in Paris and the wine country of Reim to find out and to hopefully stop any more deaths. Agent Jeannette LaFarge and Detective Daniel Murray are lead investigator and will need all of their wits about them to solve this one.

The Krewe Of Hunter's series by Heather Graham is one of my favorite series. I love the action, suspense, danger, romance, and the ability of the agents to see/hear ghosts that help them in their investigations. I'm still sussing out the Blackbird team, and haven't yet read all the books in the series, but I'm enjoying what I've read so far.

Many thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing/Mira and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

Special Agent Jeannette LaFarge is called in to investigate a vineyard in the Reims region of France where bodies are discovered. These bodies are completely drained of all their blood. She and her partner, Daniel Murray, use all their resources to find the vampire killer.

I have been a fan of this author for 30 years or more…yes I am that old. Even though this is not my favorite series it is still very unique and entertaining. She has a lot of history thrown into this suspenseful tale and this just adds more to the mix!

I love that there are quite a few suspects. And some are a bit strange and not quite what you expect. But these two investigators are not letting anything get in their way!

Need a good suspenseful, vampire tale…or is it? THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

This is set in Paris and the Reims vineyard region of France. When three young women are found exsanguinated - drained of all blood - the local newspapers begin playing up the vampire angle. Is a bloodthirsty vampire really loose in the French countryside? Before things get too out of hand, the Blackbird division of the Krewe of Hunters swings into action. (The Krewe of Hunters is an international off-books police force with certain "gifts", one of these being the ability to see and converse with ghosts.) Working the scene, Jeannette LaFarge, an American agent, and Daniel Murray, a French-speaking Scottish agent, are assisted by a female ghost who was beheaded during the French Reign of Terror and an American pilot who died during the Normandy invasion. Fans of supernatural sleuthing will get a kick out of Legacy of Blood!

The Blackbird international branch of the Krewe is now in France after young women’s bodies are being found, drained of blood. This time, there are no signs of teeth marks, so the team doesn’t believe it is related to fake vampires. The hunt leads them to the town of Reim and three of the smaller vineyards. As they dig deeper, Jeanette and her partner Daniel are helped by ghostly friends, but they are still unsure of their quarry. As more bodies are found, they realize the killings have been going on for years and bear similarities to the atrocities of Elizabeth Bathory, the blood countess.
As always, Heather Graham has done an excellent job of weaving history, romance, and mystery to create an exciting, fun read.

Eh. I read the other Blackbird Files, and this was definitely the worst. I didn't care much for the characters, and their romance felt very forced. The history that was "repeating" was odd, and I'm not sure how many more times they were going to repeat the exact. Same. Story. If you're going to talk about the historical figure, maybe at least change or add something and not give the same description. It's like they copy and pasted Wikipedia every time. Also, the reveal of the culprit(s) was very lame and very obvious but for very stupid/no motive. All in all, this book just did not flow very well, in my opinion. The descriptions and the dialog were not realistic. I could probably rate lower, but I liked the other 2 books, and I did at least finish the book.

One more of the Krewe, Blackbird: Jeanette and Daniel are part of an investigation team that has special abilities to speak AND see the dead. The dead has helped the solve and support in the investigation of cases. In this story 2 of the dead help them with their quest to solve the murders and disappearances of girls. These girls have been drained of their blood and their bodies left in vineyards. 3 vineyard owners come of suspicion and when Jeanette is taken by the group hired by the killer Daniel races against time to not only find her, but the other woman taken. The ritual goes way back to the Elizabeth Báthory and in the end, they not only save Jeanette but also the owner of the vineyard who was also taken. I do enjoy Heather Graham and look forward to reading her other books.

Building On A Biography

Daniel. a Scot, and Jeanette, an American, have been assigned by the Blackbird division of the Krewe of Hunters to look into the abduction of young women in Paris. These young women's bodies had been found drained of blood and deposited in vineyards in Rheims. Jeanette, with her passion for history, connects the murders to the story of Elizabeth Barthory, known as the Blood Countess. Bringing in other members of the Blackbird team and pairing up with Gervais, a high level French policeman, Daniel and Jeanette narrow down the suspects to the owners of three vineyards in Rheims. Using their power to speak with the dead, Daniel and Jeanette get closer to the real perpetrators, despite the red herrings thrown in their way.

‘We all came seeking the light, and all they found was...darkness.’

Team Blackbird lands in Paris in this outing featuring an old face from the previous two installments, Daniel, a Scottish policeman now a full fledged Krewe member who has only recently come into his ‘powers’ of seeing the dead and an American agent newly assigned to the team that hasn’t met any of them yet. I enjoyed the story even though we were repeatedly subjected to the Bathory legend over and over again and once again the whole ghostly point of the team seemed to be downplayed with only minor interactions with two ghosts leading up to the big finale.

A crew of special agents with the code name Blackbird are brought in when several people are found dead in the vineyards of Reims, France drained of their blood. These special agents have unique talents, they can talk to spirits. As they start their investigation, they soon realize that they are dealing with a serial killer or killers. They explore the family vineyards of Reims and the nightlife of Paris. I really enjoyed this book, mainly for the locations. I have been to Paris and Reims and it brought back memories of my visits. My only negative was the ending came together a little too quickly.

The Blackbird Krewe go from Scotland to France for their next case, in which young women are being found dead in ways that remind investigator Jeannette LaFarge of what she once read about Elizabeth Bathory and her bloodthirsty habits. With her partner Daniel Murray, Jeannette is going to find out what the local ghosts know.

I like these books well enough, and it's fun to see the Krewe operate in Europe. I guess I don't feel like the Blackbird team "gels" in quite the same way the US one does.

Still, you can't do much better for paranormal suspense than Heather Graham, so it's worth reading.

Legacy of Blood by Heather Graham is a thriller set against the eerie backdrop of the French countryside. Special Agent Jeannette LaFarge and Detective Daniel Murray make for a compelling duo as they unravel a string of grisly murders inspired by the infamous Elizabeth Báthory. The atmosphere is dark and suspenseful. Graham's blend of historical horror and police procedural keeps you hooked, though some parts feel a bit predictable. Overall, it's an entertaining read that fans of paranormal thrillers will enjoy.

This is book 3 of The Blackbird Files series by Heather Graham another off shoot to her Krewe of Hunters books but Blackbird is an International team. Jeanette La Farge is American but she and her new team mates are in France because someone is killing young women and draining them of blood. Daniel, Mason, Carly, Luke, and Della are all there to help the Paris police figure this out with their special connections to the spirits of the deceased they are hoping to find some other worldly help that is not a main staple for the police force to call on. Good Book now, I want to read the first 2 Lol Love Heather Graham's Krewe books and these ones are shaping up to be just as good. A Treat.

I like these books when I want something enjoyable, with a bit of suspense, a bit of location porn and an easy read. This is the third book in an offshoot series from the Krewe of Hunters (FBI agents who have extra-sensory skills) and it's all international settings but the same type of crimes. Entertaining because it's pulling in historical crimes from outside the US so you get a bit of a European true crime history flair. There is a formula to them but it's one that works and I look forward to the next one!

I received an e-arc from the publisher and Netgalley.

I was so fascinated by this storyline!!

Again another phenomenal Blackbird Files! I love this series as much as the Krewe of Hunters series! Although, I would love to see Heather Graham do a Krewe storyline set in St. Augustine. That would be incredible!!! I love the way history and the ghostly goings on are rolled into a fascinating storyline in every book. I hope they keep on coming!!!!!!
