He thinks she’s an addict. She thinks he’s a dealer. Unchecked, their innocent assumptions could have lethal repercussions.
Cynical ER doctor Johnny MacDonald has given up on finding love. To cope with his emotionally demanding job, he’s built a fortress around his heart. No feelings in. No feelings out. He can’t expect a woman to accept his DOA heart or his maddeningly unpredictable schedule. So focused and busy, he doesn’t realize he’s being framed to take the fall for a massive prescription-selling scam at the hospital. Could the new receptionist be the key to clearing his name?
DEA agent Kate Hathaway is focused on one thing—bringing down the drug dealing doctor responsible for her brother’s death. When her undercover status comes under fire, she must make a choice—go with the evidence or trust her gut. Getting involved with a suspect could end her career. But what if they’re on the same team?
As Kate closes in on the culprits, she learns the hard way that they don’t intend to surrender without a fight. After burning the bridge to her only ally, she finds herself in danger and alone. Will Johnny put the pieces together before it’s too late? And is it possible to ensure the only damage done is to the barriers around his heart?
Pursuing Johnny wraps up the MacDonald Brothers series in the best way possible. All the brothers get the HEAs, thei mother get the huge extended family filled with loads of grandchildren and you get a glimpse into the future of the MacDonald clan. Johnny MacDonald is a well liked and respected ER physician. Kate Hathaway is a DEA agent on a personal quest to find the person who was responsfor her brother's OD death. Both make assumptions about the other that goes right out the window after accidentally overhearing a furtive phone conversation. As they work together to bring about an end to a drug ring the chemistry between them is undeniable but acting on it doesn't seem to be the best idea. Still, they are drawn together and do cross the line over and over only to have a misconception almost derail them....and a few bad guys.
The books read smoothly and the characters were real. Plots were a bit obvious but I read so much that I can spot the direction they are going, really liked each of the MacDonald brothers, their spouses and families!
What a great way to end the series!! I loved the Kate and Johnny dynamic and the mystery that they unfold together. The heartfelt ending was a beautiful way to wrap up the series.
