The Boss: A Workplace Romance (A Keeper Series, #3) by: Melissa McClone

The Boss: A Workplace Romance by Melissa McCloneMy rating: 4 of 5 starsMcClone takes romance to a deeper level and hits back at stereotypes in the process. Drake and Chaney find their second chance, will foolish pride detail their chance at happiness once again? The Boss gives the senses just enough temptation to jumpstart the heart. Though not always a beautiful ride, it's definitely a wildly satisfying one.

Fairy tales do come true in this story. I really liked Chaney. She seemed to have such bad luck but amazingly she pushed through it and bounced back. It was so romantic that she met Drake five years ago when she was in London as an intern for his business. It was also interesting to see her family and how her sister treated her. I am surprised Chaney wanted anything to do with her sister.

I liked the sparks between Blake and Chaney and I admired Chaney for realizing that he would not commit to her five years ago when she was an intern in London. Now she has lost her job again and needs her knight in shining armor. I liked not knowing if Drake would remain her boss or if he could be something more. What a touching gift Tony gave them. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

When her friend needs help Chaney doesn’t hesitate to step in and finish producing the project she started even if it means reuniting with the man who broke her heart years earlier. Drake is the owner of a successful media company and had been attracted to Chaney from their first meeting, but they had very different plans for their future.

Fate has thrown them together once again, but will this be their second chance or are they destined to end in heartbreak once again?

There was no denying the chemistry between them and it was good to see Chaney get the happy ever after she deserved.

Workplace Romance Gold!! Sweet, swoon worthy and a beautiful slow burn to romance. I LOVED this story!! This story broke my heart at times and had me sitting on my couch rooting for this beautiful couple. Drake and Chaney belonged together from the start but had to do some soul searching before culminating in a GREAT happily ever after. Couldn’t put this book down!!

This book is a second chance romance book. I have to say that it was a wonder addition to this series. I loved Chaney and Drake. I thought that they were a perfect match for each other. The question however is have they learned from their past mistakes. Will they be able to make it work this time?

Chaney has taken the opportunity to step in as assistant producer for a high rated cable show to increase her chances for a promotion. She wasn't unfamiliar with the production company, she had interned for Drake Llewelyn five years ago. She was replacing her friend who is now on bed rest with a difficult pregnancy. What she didn't account for was her attraction to Drake still being as intense as it was back then.

Drake decided to do more of his company's show The Billionaires Playground as soon as he heard Chaney had accepted the position. He's missed her, but he appears to be more interested in a fling rather than a relationship. That's something Chaney won't compromise on and certainly not with her boss.

Drake is pretty relentless when it comes to Chaney, he wants her and he really doesn't want a relationship. He has no desire to get married and he feels his reasons are justified.

I love the way this tale unfolds, the behind the scenes glimpses are fun and the growing romance sigh worthy. I enjoyed the members of the crew and meeting some of the more difficult hosts. The places they filmed sparked my imagination but I just really couldn't figure out how this was going to work out for Drake and Chaney. They are both so dang stubborn and the twists that come into play are definitely not expected.

I can't wait to see what Melissa comes up with for the next book in this series.

Chaney and Drake’s story in The Boss is a fun, heartwarming, sweet romance by Melissa McClone, book three in her A Keeper series. When her internship is completed, her boss, Drake Llewelyn, asked Chaney Sullivan to stay in London with him. Chaney wanted a forever relationship, not a fling which is all Drake wanted. Back in London to be the temporary associate producer on a television show, as a favor to a friend, Chaney again encounters her former boss. Time has not lessened the chemistry and magnetism between these two. Drake notices that Chaney has changed and he is determined to figure out what caused her to lose her passion for life and those enthusiastic smiles. After a soul-reaching kiss brings them together, fear drives them apart. Drake, not believing in love, pushes her away and tired of trying to please everyone, Chaney retreats. Chaney and Drake need to take a risk on love before their pasts win, keeping them alone.

Ms. McClone wrote a wonderfully sweet and moving story that is not to be missed. This story contains fun dialogue, the magic of love, discovery of oneself, and charming characters giving Chaney and Drake a chance at love, happiness, and future I highly recommend The Boss to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.

The Boss is another great addition to the Keeper Series by Melissa McClone. I love the fact that Chaney doesn’t let her attraction to Drake distract her from what she wants...a relationship. Her Wants and needs come first, which makes her a strong, independent young woman, in this circumstance.
Drake is nothing if not persistent in his pursuit of Chaney, but he’s always respectful of her feelings. That itself makes him a good guy, much better than her ex fiancé or even her family. As a couple, they kept me engaged and interested in the story itself.
Outside of her interactions with Drake, though, Chaney is a doormat. The way her family treats her...and she allows...makes me crazy. While it didn’t take me out of the story, it definitely colored how I viewed her as a whole. Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book as a whole. But it stuck with me as I finished the book. And it’s happening often enough lately in my readings to make me bring it up in reviews.
Regardless, I really enjoyed The Boss and recommend it to other romance fans.

Chaney made it clear to Drake several times in this book that she wasn’t interested in a casual fling, but that doesn’t stop him from inviting her back to his room, making suggestive comments, and kissing her. He could tell that she was having romantic feelings for him and he still led her on at times. I understand kissing her as part of the act of pretending to be dating in front her family because her parents felt sorry for her and her boyfriend stealing sister was so nasty. But he still did even when there wasn’t an audience. If I were Chaney I don’t know what I would do. I’ve always played it safe working in the business field, so I envy her chasing her dream as an associate TV producer and taking a risk with Drake. The Billionaire’s Playground sounds like an interesting show as long as there’s the chance for the average person to visit these places.

Melissa has done it again. You get drawn into her books and can’t put them down.

Chaney was doing an internship and developed a crush on her boss. When the internship was over he asked her to stay. She said No because she wanted to be more than a fling. She went back home. There she fell in love and worked for her fathers company. Then the worst happens the boyfriend left her and married her sister and she had to find a new job.

Five years later her friend asked her to fill in for her filming a show. She accepted. Her old boss wasn’t supposed to be there. Surprise Drake was there. Will the crush still be there? Will Drake conquer what he always wanted? What will happen? You must read to find out!

I was completely captivated by this workplace billionaire romance with engaging characters you fall in love with and want to know more about and a beautifully written story that is emotionally-charged and tugs on your heartstrings. Once I started reading, I knew I wouldn't be able to put the book down until I read the last word. I really liked the attraction and undeniable chemistry between Chaney Sullivan and Drake Llewelyn. If you enjoy sweet and touching romance that will give you an afternoon or evening of reading pleasure, don't miss "The Boss". Chaney is back to be the producer of Drake’s program after been the intern five years ago. They had a connection but he wanted her to stay for the wrong reason. The connection is still there but all the sparks too, especially after their dance and kiss. But will Drake ever give what Chaney really wants, his love and his heart.
Great story with very lovable characters who discover what’s most important in life. I really enjoy reading this author’s books.

What I really enjoy about this author is that she makes her characters real and believable. They have insecurities and flaws as well all do.
They are also mature and develop a relationship as opposed to insta love.
I loved how Drake and Chaney worked together when she interned for him five years ago. The chemistry was there but the goals not the same.
Five years later they are reunited when Chaney helps produce Drakes show for her bed rest friend.
Awesome characters, setting and dialogue.
The characters are likable and you find yourself rooting for their HEA. A great read from start to finish

This is Book 3 in A Keeper Series by this author, and can be read as a standalone. It is a sweet, second chance romance between Drake and Chaney. Once they re-connect, it is a journey of self-discovery as these two likeable characters figure out a renewed relationship between them with love and intimacy while overcoming life's challenges. It is a love story dealing with redemption and maturing love, along with some drama, humor, and steam, plus engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. Overall, it is a quick read with heart, heat, and a happy ending.

I had a free copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Chaney Sullivan takes a leave of absence from work to help a friend and gain experience as an associate producer of a TV show. She must work with Drake Llewelyn her former boss who broke her heart when she interned for him. When she is finished with the leave, she learns she has been laid off, permanently. Drake offers her a job and she takes it on a trial basis. As sparks build between them he must choose whether or not he wants her in his life as an employee or a wife. Great story centering on issues of trust and commitment.

I really like Melissa McClone books. They always pull me into the story and are quick reads. This one was no different. I liked Chaney. She is an independent person who has been taken advantage of by people she should have been able to to trust. Drake is convinced he can't have a long term relationship since his mother abandoned him. They knew each other in the past and didn't act upon their attraction at that time. Now they meet again and their attraction is even stronger. The story is a sweet love story. I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

As an intern for Drake Llewellyn, Chaney learns a lot about being a TV producer. When she finishes her internship in London, she goes back home to L.A. She gets engaged but her sister marries her fiancé. That does not make for a good family relationship.
When she is approached to fill in for Gemma as the producer for the show she had interned on, she jumps at the chance and heads back to London. She is determined to do the best job for the best boss around.
Fun things happen and lives are changed.

Thoroughly enjoyed this sweet office, second chance romance. Drake is known as a heart breaker, where Chaney is looking for her forever. Drake broke Chaney's heart years ago and now she is working for him. Will one kiss be enough, or will they open their hearts up once again.

This was a delight to read, loved the dialog between the characters. This is part of a series but all books can be read as a stand alone.

Fun book!

This was a really enjoyable book. I had to re-read the beginning to make sure Drake wasn't a jerk sending out mixed signals. He wasn't. I'm also glad Chaney hung in there. But I have to stop
reading these romance books because I always wish it was me. Oops wait a minute, it is me...I have my own knight in shining armor in the other room. Gotta go!
Happy Reading!!

Fun

The travel and characters in this story were fantastic. I was a little disappointed that in the end we didn’t see Chaney’s finally job. Did she find one? I suppose it didn’t matter anymore, but it was the one loose that was left unresolved. She found something more important.

What is a woman to do when she faces falling in love all over again with a man she was barely strong enough to walk away from the first time? By getting him to fall in love with her too, that’s how.

That pretty much sums up the heroine’s dilemma in this book but it’s a pretty big one. Chaney is a career minded woman who started out interning for Drake’s company. She figured out that he wasn’t in the running for what she needed in a relationship and I liked how she kept her wits about her during those initial scenes. It also was a great foreshadowing about Drake’s character. Color the man confused.

Fast forward a few years and Memo: The Billionaire’s Proposal takes off with both Chaney and Drake older but not entirely wiser. Chaney has a family conflict that not only plays a part in bringing the couple closer but it dogs the heroine’s sense of self through a good portion of the story. I got glimpses and teases here and there until the author came right out and explained to Drake (and me!) about the reasons for that internal conflict, and I believe it made Chaney’s character pretty remarkable because of what she’s done with her life despite it all.

Chaney is a dreamer yet is pragmatic enough to deal with reality face to face without losing hope for her secret wishes. I liked her loyalty and the strong friendships she develops because of the kind of personality she has. There is a lot to like about her character and I agreed with her that a happily ever after is not something to give up on.

Drake on the other hand is a self-made man who has substituted helping others as a defense against the broken dreams from his youth. He truly is a dear man but he’s totally delusional when it comes to relationships. What I really enjoyed about Drake’s character is his propensity to rationalize everything to fit his structured ideals.

Slowly but surely, Chaney got under his skin and he found himself doing things that truly were romantic, considerate and special and yet he couldn’t face the real reason why he was going to the lengths he was. I could see it and I kept shaking my head at him. For all his money he was a scared little boy who was afraid to want things for himself. If that isn’t a great emotional hook to care for a character, I don’t know what is.

Secondary characters were not on stage to a huge degree but the author created some wonderful counterpoints to Drake and Chaney’s characters. They contributed to the movement of the plot and showcased the strengths and even the weaknesses of the hero and heroine.

The one thing I feel compelled to mention is that a reader can expect to see some editing errors peppering this story. Most didn’t bother me too much but there was a gender mix up in one paragraph that caused me to blink in surprise. After that, things got much smoother.

Memo: The Billionaire’s Proposal is an adorable story that is perfect for those times when all a reader wants is pure romance, something that reaches the emotions and dreams inside each of us. The growing love between Chaney, ever hopeful, and Drake, the reluctant, is a delight. I enjoyed their push-pull dialogue and the passionate kisses that take each of them by surprise. I liked the dreamy way Chaney views the hero when he is in his suit of armor and I thought it funny when Drake saw the heroine in the ocean for the first time. I knew he was a goner right then.

This book kept my interest and provided a very sweet and satisfying happily ever after and I’m very glad I read Memo: The Billionaire’s Proposal.

This is my first book by Melissa McClone. I have to agree with a friend's review, the first chapter is truly amazing and just sucks you right in to the story. Chaney's healing from emotional bruising both from her family and her ex-fiance, and now she's having to face her fantasy man, Drake. Ah, and what a fantasy man he is! I loved Drake, where can I meet the real one? At the end of the book, he says to Chaney, "you are the one who read my number" and he's in awe. These two have sizzling chemistry and there are some wonderful witty moments that will bring you smiles. I can certainly see why this book is nominated for a Romantic Times award. Bravo, Melissa!
