Twisted Collide

Rate this book
My dad abandoned me as a baby.
My mom just kicked me out.
Oh, and I can’t stand hockey.

It’s shocking how many drunken secrets Dane Sinclair fleeces from me the night we meet.

It’s supposed to be a one-night stand.
No numbers.
No strings attached.
A release we both desperately need.

Neither of us expect to come face-to-face again on my first day working for the Redville Saints.

Dane thinks I targeted him.
That I seduced him, knowing he’s their star enforcer.

Despite his suspicions, he can’t stay away from me.
I’m his dirty little secret.
His coach’s off-limits daughter.

The whole world thinks he’s a Saint.
It’s about to find out behind the squeaky clean exterior is just another sinner.

There’s just something about a Ava Harrison sports romance for me. Her characters are always real. It’s just something she sprinkles in that makes it more than a cute sports romance. They always have that extra element.

I really enjoyed this one!

Coaches daughter
Forbidden romance
Age gap
Secret relationship

The book follows Josie and Dane.

Josie comes home one morning to her mother, who has had enough of her not doing something with her life, and so decides to send her to her fathers house.

The issue here being…..she never even knew she had a father, believing all her life that she was conceived via a sperm donor.

The day she is supposed to turn up at the fathers house, she decides instead, to check into a motel to get her thoughts together. It’s this night, at a bar, she meets Dane.

They hit it off, decide not to swap names, and personal information, which makes the shock of working together even more doom filled.

It turns out Josie’s father is a coach for a hockey team….Danes Hockey team. And now the two of them have to work closely together, whilst navigating the inevitable feelings for each other!

That's it. I'm officially done with this author's work...at least for now. After being sorely let down by her previous book, Sweet Collide, I decided to give her a second chance by picking this one up. However, it was as disappointing as the first one. Sometimes I wondered if I was reading the same book when I browsed through all the favorable reviews for her books. The biggest problem I had with her stories was how much lust and blind-sided first impression her main characters had for each other. All they thought about was banging and having a great time; they didn't bother forming a friendship first or got anything deeper to talk about. The characters were superficial and so was the relationship/romance portrayed. More unfortunately, there were actually super cute covers for this series but please don't be fooled by them. At least one thing for sure is that I will take a long break from this author's books and yeah, focus more on my piling TBR.

⛸️💕Arc Review for Twisted Collide by Ava Harrison⛸️💕

I’m pretty sure other readers have felt the same as me at one point or another. You have read so many sports romances and rom-coms they all still feel like the same story on repeat. To be honest I feel like I have read so many sports romances that it’s been a long time since I’ve had a five-star. One that makes me want to recommend it to everybody and has me excited all throughout reading the book. But finally, here is one. If you love sports romance, hockey, well-written spice, grumpy sunshine, angst, and a new book boyfriend, look no further.

You will fall in love with Dane and Josie. He is the hot and famous hockey player with a troubled and secret past, and she is the troubled 22-year-old who’s forced to move out from home to live with a person she thought never existed in the first place, all in hopes of getting her life together. Little do they know that another of those crappy days they are used to would turn out to be a bit more exciting and would also determine their future.

Thank you so much to Hambright PR and author Ava Harrison for this copy.

DNF

I listened to the audiobook, and the narrators are two of my favorites, but they couldn't even save this book from the FMC's immaturity and total unlikablity.

Dane Sinclair is a grumpy hockey player. Which is the best kind.

"I hate bullies. I hate people who pick on others to make them feel small".

Josie moved back home with her mom and has lost her way. Her mother sends her away to live with her father. A father she never even knew existed.

Josie makes it to the hotel where she rents a room and goes to the hotel bar for a drink. As she scans the bar, she spots a very attractive man. They have a one night fling and she thinks she will never see him again. Oh and did I mention she hates hockey, but has no idea who Dane is.

Once she meets her father, Josie finds out she is going to be the assistant in marketing for the hockey team her father coaches. Upon meeting the team, she sees a very familiar face.

"Parents teach kids the most important lessons.
Mine taught me that I don't need anyone".

Josephine just wants someone to fight for her. She feels alone in the world.

What was supposed to be a one night stand, especially after Dane finds out she is the coach's daughter turned out to be just the relationship they both needed.

I absolutely loved everything about this book. The emotions and the depth of the characters is amazing. The Chemistry between Josie and Dane was of the characters. If you love a grumpy hockey Romance with a found family and a happy ending this is the book for you! ❤️

RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
SPICE: 🔥🔥💥

This was a cute, quick read and had some great spicy moments that kept me unvented!

I love hockey romance always, so if you love Coach’s daughter and a grumpy MMC, with a little bit of angst and Missouri. you are going to like this one.

🩷 Hockey Romance
🩷 Coach’s Daughter
🩷 One Night Stand
🩷 Age Gap
🩷 Broody MMC

Dane and Josie have an instant connection when they meet and have a one night stand. But when Dane realizes that Josie is his coach’s daughter he realizes she is off limits even though their connection and chemistry are off the charts.

These two were like magnets to each other even though they both had some trauma that needed to be worked through before they found their happily ever after z

I enjoy this world and the series, and know that these books are a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions.

The spice was great, the narrators for the audio were fantastic, and this was a fun and easy read.

I love hockey romances, they are definitely up there in my top 3!
Especially when the MMC is a miserable grump lol wasn’t so much a fan of the FMC- she was quite immature and I frankly didn’t click to her.
The narrators did a great job! Loved their portrayals!
Overall the book was good and Easy to read.

This book was ok. It could have been a lot shorter and the characters were WAY too over the top. The FMC was annoying af and the MMC went beyond grumpy and dark. I can’t stand getting beaten over the head with a plot line, I get it. She has abandonment issues, he feels soul crushing guilt and intimacy issues-I DNF Just skipped to the end and didn’t seem like I missed anything.

Update: I hate not finishing a book so I tried again. I’m at 63% and struggling!! I guess I’ll just have to admit defeat…

Twisted collide is a quirky, fast-paced hockey romance novel that follows Josie who reluctantly joins her father for a new job. But before all that she meets Dane Sinclair and they have a one- night stand. That's all or so it seemed. Because they revealed nothing that would lead to more yet shared the most intimate parts of their lives.

But as it turns out Dane is actually part of her father's hockey team. And her job was in the marketing assistance for the team. Now, they must remain within the boundaries of professionals in order to stay out of each other's hairs. Well that's easier said than done. As one thing leads to another, Dane Sinclair might have to fight harder to stay focused on the Redville Saints and not on the feisty Hellfire who has all reasons to be his unbecoming.

And Josie will make sure to raise hell and reveal who Dane truly is. A swoon worthy sinner who is hiding from his true self.

This was a fast-paced, intriguing and exciting sports romance that gripped me right away. The tropes of grumpy MMC, forbidden romance age gap and emotional past were well explored in the entire plot. Dane and Josie instantly recognised the emotional vulnerabilities and complexities that they have been carrying which led to them hitting off immediately. Their passionate feelings, emotions and encounters.... it's something that every sports romance enthusiast would wholeheartedly appreciate! 😏

Ava Harrison's writing style is immersive and her plot execution is anticipatory as she gives readers a charming and irresistible page- turner of a romance. I really loved both the protagonists backstories. It augmented an intriguing dimension to the elements of the story. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators did a commendable job to bring out the emotions and feelings of the characters.

I really enjoyed this and I'm definitely going to go through the backlist. I'd definitely recommend "Twisted Collide." If you love a broody, grumpy and angst filled hockey player and a girl who has a lot going on, and both trying to ignore the already brewing sizzling chemistry and attraction, then this is the book for you.

"That’s what makes being near her so hard. She’s temptation. The sweetest sin."

“You didn’t just force me out of my comfort. You collided with me, twisting my world upside down.”

When star enforcer hockey player Dane collides with 22 year old Josie neither is ready for their fates to be twisted together in such an emotional collision. In my review of Sweet Collide, Book 1 of the Saints of Redville series, I stated that Ava Harrison was a poignant romance writer. She confirms it with Book 2 of the series, Twisted Collide.

Not ready to meet the father she never knew existed until recently, Josie winds up in a vineyard colliding into the very handsome older Dane. After a steamy night with his feisty "Hellfire" he quickly regrets their promise of anonymity.

No need for regret when Josie is the new social media intern for the team...oh and also the coach's daughter! Who knew he had a daughter?! Sounds like a sports RomCom but this author has other plans.

First there's Dane's protectiveness of his younger sister who he's raised since their parents died in a car accident. No one knows his guilt over their death or what he had to do to get custody of her. Then there's why Josie's fierceness hides her insecurities. Even her mother has secrets...so does Dane's little sis.

I alternated reading and listening to Twisted Collide. Voice actress Andi Arndt proves why she's a favorite among audiobook listeners with her vulnerable yet fierce Josie. It was my first listen with voice actor Lance Greenfield but it won't be my last. He added depth to Dane's guilt, shame and unwavering devotion with a fervent performance.

This standalone interconnected series is proving that the twisting of sports, comedy, steam and emotions is the perfect collision for romance.

I received a free copy of this book/audiobook from #hambright_pr for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

2.5 ⭐️

The FMC was so incredibly immature. As a 22 year old college graduate she is sent to live and work for her dad that she has never met. Which I understand that being awkward and the hurt she must have felt. She actively avoided him and when she did interact with him she wasn’t very kind to him. She doesn’t actually have a conversation about the past until like 70% of the book. She was always really immature in how she interacted with the MMC. Which just took me out of the romance… I know she was 22 but I don’t think we ever get his age but there is an obvious age gap and he had to grow up faster to raise his sister when he was 18 so the age gap just felt icky especially at the beginning. She did seem to be less immature towards the end of the book. My eyes were rolling when the MMC’s big dark secret was revealed..

One of the things I like about interconnected standalone books are characters from previous books being around. The hockey guys were around but Cassidy from the first book was mentioned a few times but I think she was shows up in person once! That felt like a missed opportunity especially since the FMC has no friends.

Thank you hambright pr for the #gifted alc to read and review.

I almost always have multiple books going because I use different formats depending on my schedule. But I want you to know that I took out my kindle… and then proceeded to stick my headphones in and just listen to my audiobook while I watched gymnastics practice instead of eyeball reading. I couldn’t stay away.

Sent to live with her secret father by her fed-up mother, Josie is about to embark on a whole new life. Might as well have a little fun first. The fun… turns out to be Dane Sinclair. A player on her dad’s professional hockey team… which Josie will be interning for. Ohhhh and he’s kind of as ass.

Expect 👉🏼 ONS, Workplace Romance, Secret Relationship, Coach’s Daughter, Grumpy

I really loved this one. The writing and narration sucked me in immediately. The tightrope walking was adorable—did you see the illustrated cover?? IYKYK. I loved how these two were together.

Looking forward to many more books in this series! 🏒🔥

DNF - I should have known I was gonna hate this book when I came to Goodreads and saw that the cute, cartoon cover had been replaced with this weird ass man. I mean the red flags were there, the warning bells were going off in my head from the first page. and yet... I read ahead anyways. Could not get to the end though (spoiler alert: they end up together) because if I have to read one more comment about how young she is I will crash out. It's ridiculous. Yes, I hate the huge age gap trope and this man well into his 30s having a relationship with a fresh out of college 22 year old girl was uncomfy to say the least. But I genuinely think I could have dealt with it if they didn't bring it up every two pages. They're consenting adults and they already have a reason they can't be together given that she's the coaches daughter AND they work together (and have issues like crazy they should prove solve on their own), they didn't need another thing.

3.5 stars!

I definitely enjoyed this one more than the first book in the series! Although I am a sucker for a good age gap romance.

I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of Josie for about 75% of the book. I get that she was young but she was just so immature throughout most of the book but she did eventually grow on me at least a little bit. Her character definitely had the most development in the whole book!

I loved Dane from the beginning but I’m always going to fall for the grumpy hockey player. It’s just a problem I have lol He may have been grumpy but he had such a big heart and truly cared about the people he loved. Dane and Josie definitely had a tense relationship but they had that chemistry we all love as well.

The one thing I will say is that I think this book was a little drawn out. There were just parts of it that I felt didn’t really make sense for the book and could have been left out but maybe that’s just me. Overall, I definitely enjoyed it and will definitely read anymore books if there are more to this series!

Thanks so much to Ava Harrison and Hambright PR for this ARC for an honest review!

I enjoy reading hockey romances, and the more drama there is in them, the better. Ava Harrison’s “Twisted Collide” has a mix of the coach’s daughter gets with the star player but makes it even more complex. The coach discovers he has a daughter, Josie, and his star player is Dane, who he has been raising like a son. To make it even messier, like I like it, Josie and Dane get together on the down-low.

Dane and Josie have a lot of emotional baggage that weighs them down, but that doesn’t stop them from having all the steamy scenes in “Twisted Collide.” I liked how Dane’s relationship with his sister and his sacrifices for her are portrayed. My heart broke for Josie countless times throughout the story. I never got to read Book 1, “Sweet Collide,” but I plan to read it fairly soon. I enjoyed the story.

I’m honestly surprised I made it through this book. Josie was incredibly aggravating and came across as immature throughout the story. I still can’t wrap my head around how she was so mean to her dad and his wife, especially given how poorly her mom treated her. It made even less sense after she saw the paperwork on his desk.

Dane was nice, but I couldn’t understand how he fell in love with Josie. Their relationship felt underdeveloped and left me wanting so much more. On top of that, Dane’s big secret was completely underwhelming. And I’m sorry, but I can’t get behind the idea of a grown man being unable to handle his responsibilities without help.

But I did enjoy the first book in this series, this one just let me down

(Not rated)⭐️ I picked this book up after the last book I read because I panicked and didn’t know what to read next, and let me just say, I don’t think I’ve ever been more relieved to be done with a book. All jabs aside, this is my opinion, and if someone likes this book then that great, it just wasn’t for me.

I was cringed out by so many things in this book, from the nickname, to the miscommunication, and all the way to the immaturity of both characters (who both acted like teenagers while being full grown adults… please pull yourself together).

Needless to say I will be moving on to better things

Dane & Josie met by accident but that one night would follow them throughout the book….no this isn’t a surprise pregnancy…it is a hockey player/coaches daughter though….Dane didn’t tell Josie he was a hockey player….Dane didn’t know coach had a daughter…all the years of knowing/playing for Robert (Coach/Josies father) & not a clue….you’ll have to read the book to find out why
I loved it!!! Drama filled….so many ups & downs….things I never saw coming but they all made perfect sense….there was an issue I thought was going one way & was pleasantly surprised I was way off….Dane & Josie both came with baggage…it seems like a lot to unpack but it was handled well
This was book 2 in the series & of course I missed the first one….Im going to need to grab it & see what I missed

If you love these tropes give the book a read
