A totally gripping and eventful drama. Two bodies were found washed up on the beach. Both had injuries that looked like shark attack bites on the legs. Mysteriously though the coroner was not happy with the evidence of shark bites, there was an inconsistency as the bites showed evidence of bites only on one side of the bodies not both sides as with a shark attack. Was this a rogue shark? Casey has the idea that this is not a true shark attack but a simulated attack. Can she solve the mystery and stop further attacks?
Behind His Smile by Rylie Dark is the second book in the Casey Faith Suspense Thriller series, and it has that addictive small-town mystery vibe. It starts with what seems like a simple shark attack, but Casey realizes there’s more to it. The twists keep coming, and the suspense builds in a way that makes it hard to put down. Some readers love the tension and character dynamics, but a few say it falls back on some predictable tropes. It's an engaging, twisty read if you're into thrillers.
Greenpoint is shaken by the death of two people, seemingly by a shark attack but the murders are suspicious and Casey and Alex dive into the case to find the culprit. Casey will put herself in great danger to find the killer and discover the reasons that led him to those actions. Behind His Smile is an easy read, with an engaging plot and strong characters. I thank Ms. Dark for this ARC.
This was a quick, fairly interesting thriller. I must admit that it had far too much “internal dialogue” for me. It was inventive and sets you up for the next book. I have not read the first one. No, I am not going to read any more books by this author. However, I can see where it might be quite popular. I prefer the “dark” Scandinavian mysteries. This was a free e-book from BookBub.
Reading it from the point of view of a writer, I enjoyed the trip into the author's mind. How every scene was shaped into a plausible cog in the chain that kept me awake all night until I smelt the breeze of the final kick from the depth of the dark sea waters free of shark bites. A must read for lovers of thrillers that come with courage.
Very good concept with a new and exciting idea. The murders were made out to look like shark attacks.... But they weren't... How was the murderer achieving this and how did they find their victims?
The characters are relatable and interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story and couldn't stop reading it. However, some of the questions were left unanswered by the ending.
The premise for the stories are good ideas, but the writing needs a lot more polish. Unfortunately, a good story isn’t necessarily a great read if the prose is stilted and poorly worded. Unfortunately, it’s not as though the author has embarked on a new career in writing - with a large list of titles in the body of work, one can only assume amateurish ghost writers of just laziness .
Someone is murdering people who are in the ocean. There is no logic behind the killing so I took off one star in the rating. The detectives work long hours to solve he crime before anyone else is killed.
This book was just ok. It took me forever to finish it. It was pretty much, just like the first book in the series. They're so short, you don't get to know the characters enough to get invested in the series.
