This vaguely reminded me of that Newbery book where the two boys were up in the mountains together but weren't supposed to be friends. Two goats trade turnips for cabbage with each other, but their farmers don't like it and keep making obstacles so they can't trade. I don't really see what the point was of the farmers not liking each other. But I guess I liked it?

This is also a tale of two friends. Kids can definitely related to being separated from their best-friend-of-the-day by circumstances which they cannot control.
