This book has a fairy tale quality to its writing. The theme of a reverse Robin Hood is that Tabitha has led the life of a pickpocket in order to survive and meets two women who want to improve the lives of the poor by stealing from the rich. The world building in the book is based on Victorian England but with a much softer, less rigid formality. This has the feeling of being a bit of a modern historical with the Duke, (Fitz) gaining a greater awareness of his good fortune and wanting to help others. Tabby is a very sweet character but there is insta love with Fritz and this involves some very steamy scenes in the book. The two women who befriend Tabby appear to have books in their future with Hannahs being next. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Lauren Smith is another favorite author of mine. This is my 35th book by her. I read a couple of her books in 2015 and 2016 but didn't pick her up again regularly until 2018. She has several books on my top favorite reads. I just love her writing.
OMG I loved Tabitha and Fitz. I loved their story and I loved their characters. I definitely loved their chemistry. The storyline was great. This book gave me all the feels. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
When the infamously cold-hearted Fitzwilliam Seagrave, Duke of Helston decides to catch a gang of jewel thieves stealing from London’s elite circles, he never expects the thief to be a woman. She’s not just any woman either…she happens to be the bewitching creature he met in the darkened corridor during a musicale who changed his life forever. Tabitha lived on London’s streets & stole to eat, then her life is changed when she meets Hannah Winslow & Julia Starling & the Merry Robins are formed. They steal from the rich & give to the poor but only from the ‘terrible’ lords & ladies A new series & another engrossing romance from the author. I loved both Fitz & Tabitha, he’s the arrogant, can’t be wrong Duke & she’s the pickpocket who brings him down to earth with a bang. The chemistry between them sizzles, the banter is witty & the pace is so good. Throw in a lovely Grandmother & I was one happy reader. A very well written captivating romance with strong characters & devoured it in a couple of sittings My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This is the first book in a new series for this author. I really like how the author does both historical and paranormal stories.
Dukes and Diamonds is the first book in a new Victorian Jewel trilogy featuring three women who come together to steal from the rich and give to the poor. (Very Robin Hood vibes.)
Without her new found friends, Tabitha’s story might have turned out completely different! Stealing food to survive, her fathers death had left her destitute and all alone. Then stealing from the rich to give to the poor (but only the ones who deserved it!)
Fitzwilliam Seagrave (Fitz to friends) the cold-hearted Duke of Helston (the name the ladies of high society gave him) decides to catch an elusive gang of jewel thieves stealing from London’s elite circles.
Setting a trap to catch the thief he never expects the thief to be a woman. And she’s not just any woman either…she happens to be the young lady he’s beginning to fall for, exchanging heated woods and a wonderful moment that has him thinking of wedlock!
Fitz doesn’t believe or carry the notion of love. But spending illicit moments with Tabitha has him thinking thoughts he ought not to! And how can he marry a penniless young woman who he thinks is a thief? So beneath his station (arrogant man 😆) but with the help of his friends and grandmother (who is such a hoot) he’s taught a few valuable lessons. He just has to come up with a way of letting Tabitha know his feelings (and to stop her from stealing!)
I liked Tabitha (although a little uncomfortable with her stealing, but I see why) her actions had a motive, and her wit had me chuckling throughout the book. I like that she wasn’t a shy and innocent maiden (he won’t be her first bedroom experience 😜) and lusted after her Duke. She’s loyal to her friends and a quick mind.
Her partners in crime are Julia and Hannah, and they make a great trio. And I’m hoping they both get a story as each young lady is such a laugh, but have their own stories of woe!
Add in a few steamy interludes, the other Robins and other side characters and it’s a good read. Throw in a little angst and a twist, and it turns from a good into a great read. I can’t wait to read who’s next.
So what happens next? There has to be consequences to her actions. If she’s caught will she name her accomplices? And will Fitz forgive her, or turn her into the local constabulary?
I really enjoyed reading this story. I always love reading Lauren Smith. The two main characters were a perfect fit - so very much in love. I love HEA. 5☆
Thanks to BookSirens for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.
This is the first of a new series by Lauren Smith, and has themes of differing social class/social barriers, redemption, and Robin Hood vibes.
Fitz Seagrave, the Duke of Helston, is a popular, wealthy, prominent, powerful peer with the world at his feet. He is quite arrogant and very sure of himself and the rightness of his stance in all things. In spite of this, he has lately been suffering a bit of ennui with his usual entertainments. He finds his interest peaked by the latest news amongst the Ton, that of a spate of bold and notorious jewel thefts, with the victims left with a calling card of the thief, the Merry Robins. He decides that he would investigate these thefts, with the help of a couple of his best friends, using as bait for the thief, one of the famed family jewels, the large Heston diamond, currently owned by his grandmother, and destined for his future wife.
Tabitha is a young woman who was forced to live for many years on the streets, after being orphaned, alone, with nothing. She has learned to survive, sometimes using slight of hand to steal to be able to fill her belly. Her particular light fingered talent has brought her to the notice of two unusual ladies with a particular goal. Hannah and Julia are born to and live with privilidge that would normally lift them quite out of the sphere of Tabitha's world, but they have a particular passion to help those in need, especially charities involving children and women. And while they can just give their own monies and time to these endeavours, they also wish to tweak the selfish and arrogant in their own social sphere and have formed an enterprise where they steal from those who have a particular need to be brought down a peg or two, and use their ill-gotten gains to benefit those in need. When they spy Tabitha and her light fingers, they recruit her and give her a safe haven in return for her skills and aid in their pet project, the Merry Robins.
Tabitha and the Robins target Helston and his diamond next, because of his arrogance and his interference in a friend's relationship, sure in his opinion that his friend was making a mistake in his choice of bride, and that her family would destroy his friend's future. His interference causes his friend to break things off, and the jilted bride's life and reputation are ruined. This makes him a deserving target of the Robins, and his diamond would do a great deal of good for their charities as well.
What Tabitha did not expect was how attracted she would be to the arrogant Duke, and Fitz finds himself immediately enamoured by Tabitha. He hosts a country house party, inviting the Robins, not realizing they are the thieves he is trying to lure, and as he and Tabitha spend time together, they grow closer. Tabitha sees beyond the facade of the Duke, and Fitz, as Tabitha shares some of her past with him, begins to have his eyes open to things, including the fact that perhaps he is not as all-knowing or as right about things as he thought.
This is a sweet love story with both characters, as they learn more about each other, and Tabitha becomes exposed to Fitz for what she is and her past, feel that they cannot have each other, despite their growing love, because of their great disparity in class. But because of his connection to Tabitha, Fitz opens his heart and his mind, and develops a sense of empathy and self-awareness that he did not have before, making him a more likeable character, with a touch of tragic sadness as well, as he has lost his heart to Tabitha, a woman he thinks he can never have as his duchess.
A sweet story, with some steam and in general a likeable romance. It also lays out a bit of background and relationships of the secondary characters as well and it is obvious that the future stories are likely about them. I liked the sense of sisterhood and brotherhood in the story between Tabitha, Hannah, and Julia, and between Fitz and his friends.
Fits and Tabitha are meant for each other but can a thief capture the heart of a Duke? Tabitha is a thief and a good one. Fitz is a Duke but one that isn't friendly. Will Tabitha change his heart? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really enjoyed this start to the new series. The MCs were great and the storyline unusual. I enjoyed the intrigue but my only issue was the belief that the Dowager was so accepting of Tabitha's background but that was a minor thing. A great start and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
Star crossed lovers experience a tragic love story In almost equal parts I spent my time reading this book with a smile on my face or tears in my eyes. Ms. Smith can write undoubtably outstanding prose. I was gripped immediately by the plight of the young street urchin stealing items off toffs to have enough to eat. Fast forward and we find Tabitha, former street urchin now living well with the young widow Hannah who saw Tabby’s skill and had a plan. What Hannah, Tabitha and Julia, the last of the Merry Robins do not count on: Fitzwilliam Seagrave, Duke of Helston. When he sees Tabitha and she notices him, something unusual happens. The cold-hearted Fitz is touched by the mysterious Tabitha. I love a story where the arrogant, apparently mean-spirited man falls for the sweet but feisty woman. If you like historical romances with lots of passion, a great plot and a spectacular epilogue, you really must read this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of it through BookSirens.
I have read this story before, but can’t remember which anthology it was part of, but well worth reading again. I adored the Merry Robins and the way they took the ton by storm! Fitz is a man afraid to hurt again and walls himself off, until a tornado named Tabitha obliterates his self imposed lifestyle. It is a roller coaster ride of emotions in this book, and I loved how Fitz’s sees the errors of his ways. Grandmother is adorable and her ability to figure out the reason the Merry Robins do what they do was so cute. Never underestimate a woman who has lived a long life… can’t put anything by her. A wonderful ride of a story! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
In this story Tabitha and Fitz both learn some important life lessons. I liked that Fitz learned that class is not the most important thing about a woman/lady. I liked that Fitz was able to change his views with coaching from grandma. Tabitha was a resilience young woman. She started out stealing for her daily food, and with the help of good friends, she went on to help others like herself. I thought she was very admirable in her endeavors. Can Fitz change enough to accept Tabitha? The epilogue was quite impactful and a great teaser for the next book. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.
I cannot even begin to describe the emotional journey, I found myself on while reading this book. I read a lot of books, but this story just touched my soul. Fritz (the beautiful bastard) didn’t seem to have a heart, he was cold, cruel, and arrogant. When he meets Tabitha, someone socially beneath him, the attraction and connection was immediate.
Tabitha along with Julia, and Hannah, take from the undeserving and give to those less fortunate. Similar to Robin Hood they take from the rich and give to the poor, but the people they choose are chosen because of a misdeed they committed. Fritz is chosen because he broke up a couple with his opinion, and now she is ruined and his friend is miserable. They plan to take his family heirloom diamond and sell it. Tabitha is torn she has been taken in by Hannah and Julia, and she can’t let them down, they have been there for her and their friendship is unconditional, she doesn’t want to hurt Fritz either.
Fritz starts evaluating his choices in life, he starts seeing things differently, and what he does to make things right is definitely unexpected. The transformation of Fritz was amazingly surreal and beautiful. I am an emotional person, and often get chocked up, or cry a few tears, but I found myself in tears quite a few times, especially during their separation, anxiously waiting to see if they would find happiness together, and I could not have asked for a better ending for this beautiful couple.
I originally read this story as part of an anthology, it was just released and even though I recalled the story, I read it again, because Fritz was a character that truly spoke to me. His character transformation was stunningly written, the author wrote it so beautifully that you felt the emotions the characters were feeling. Fritz love for Tabitha, a lady who socially had no business with a Duke, but changed him for the better was an emotional rollercoaster, but one I will enjoy reading again and again.

Dukes and Diamonds Book 1 is Lauren Smith's new Victorian Jewel series. It is a reimagining of Robin Hood's story with class differences and strong female and male friendships. Our main female character, Tabitha, is a young woman who has resorted to pickpocketing to survive on the streets of London. After an encounter with other members of the Merry Robins she is invited to join the group and live with one of the members. As per the story of Robin Hood, they steal from members of the Ton who are arrogant and uncaring giving the profits to carefully chosen charities. Fitzwilliam Seagraves, Duke of Helston, is their next on their list. He is an arrogant, cold - hearted man who advised his close friend to break his engagement to a young woman whose father was wealthy but not a part of the ton. That advice destroyed the friend and his fiancé's lives but Fitz couldn't see or understand the depth of damage he did. A chance meeting with a mystery woman (Tabitha) gets under his skin and he finds himself reacting in ways he has not before. Fitz is a man set in his ways who weighs out every action and never lets feelings affect his choices. Tabitha is his complete opposite in so many ways and has no problem pointing out what he refuses to see. Each carry secrets that influence their outlooks on the world. I thought the story was beautifully written - full of deeply felt conversations, genuine laughter and magnetic attraction that sizzles. At one point in the story, I had to stop and wipe my eyes because I was so touched by the overwhelming emotions and devastating feelings of loss between Tabitha and Fitz. Lauren Smith does this in every one of her books that I have read and is why I will always choose to read her work! Hopefully the friends of Tabitha and Fitz will have their own love stories as she continues the Victorian Jewel Series. I received an advanced readers copy and am leaving my voluntary review based on my reading experience.
I'm a huge fan of Lauren Smith and was really looking forward to the release of the book, and I was not disappointed! The story is wonderfully written, the plot is touching and the characters are lovable. It has instalove and class difference themes and is full of emotion, some suspense and spice. The supporting characters are also endearing and I'm looking forward to Evan and Hannah's story!
Tabitha Sherborne worked as a pickpocket on the streets of London for years before she was recruited by two society ladies to join their gang of thieves, the „Merry Robins“. The Robins have made it their goal to steal from cruel members of society and distribute the proceeds of the stolen goods to charitable organisations. Her next victim is the arrogant and prideful Fitzwilliam (Fitz) Seagrave, Duke of Helston who has interfered in his friend's relationship due to his pride and vanity and driven the lovely fiancée to social ruin.
Fitz is convinced of his social standing and his decisions. However, he is also bored and decides to scout out the famous gang of thieves with the help of his friends. He uses his famous diamond as bait.
But when Fitz and Tabitha meet for the first time, they are immediately attracted to each other. At his house party, which serves the purpose of exposing the thief, they become closer, but when Fitz finds out that Tabitha is the thief, why she is stealing and why he has been chosen as the victim, his world comes crashing down around him...
Overall, a gripping story with a reformed hero and a strong heroine that I‘m happy to recommend!

Three and a half stars rounded up. Dukes and Diamonds is the first in Lauren Smith’s Victorian Jewels series. Following three women who have decided to steal from the undeserving to make life better for the poor it has a Robin Hood vibe to it. Tabitha has had to survive on the streets of London by pickpocketing after her father died and she is left all alone in the world. Recruited by two ladies of the Ton to join their endeavour to make lives better for the poor and helpless by stealing items of jewellery from the undeserving rich, they become the Red Robins. Fitz, Duke of Helston is determined to catch the elusive thieves that have created such a stir. He decides to spring a trap but what will he do when he finds that the thief is not only a lady, but the woman that has captivated his heart? This is an enjoyable first in series. Fitz was initially arrogant with a strong moral code but always imagining that he is in the right. This led him to be the cause of the break up between his best friend and his love which he never really thought about. Tabitha leads him to see the error of his ways and he does much to make amends. The writing is good and the secondary characters are all well rounded and interesting. The premise is a little improbable but I am looking forward to the next books in the series. A woman with no family but a skill for picking pockets falls in with a pair of high society Robin Hoods in "Dukes and Diamonds" by Lauren Smith. The group - known as the Merry Robins - has standards for choosing their marks. They must deserve to have their jewels stolen and sold to support worthwhile charities. Their latest mark is the Duke of Helston, who's inheriting a rare and priceless diamond.
The duke, known as Fitz to his friends, reads news articles about the thefts and decides to catch the Merry Robins. He intends to use the very diamond they want as bait to set his trap.
When Fitz and Tabitha first set eyes on each other, they're smitten. For him being a duke and her being a penniless orphan, they have a lot in common. They also break the social rules together a lot, but they always get away with it, because he's a powerful duke. I enjoyed the book well enough, but I just felt there were too many tropes, and the characters weren't making the best choices. I found it annoying and a little distracting, not enough to throw it across the room, but I've read other books by Ms. Smith and enjoyed them much more.
"Dukes and Diamonds" is a historical romance, set in England in the Victorian Era.
I received an advance view copy for free; opinions expressed are my own.
Well written, full of excitement, mystery, intrigue, action, suspense, sadness, love, emotions, society, thieves and jewels. Tabitha is a street smart thief who has been living off the streets for years. She is caught stealing a watch by two women- Hannah and Julia , who take it from her. Offered a job to work with them, they steal from the rich and give to the poor. They call themselves the Merry Robins. They plan to steal a diamond but go to the ball to case out the home, this is where Tabitha meets up with Fitz- a Duke whom Hannah and Julia have a grudge against. Fitz has heard of the Merry Robins from two of his friends and they decide to set a trap for the thief. Using his Grandmother's famous diamond tiara and a house party, they invite guests and made it known that the gem will be there. The Robins are invited and the trap is set. The plot thickens when Fitz catches the thief by wounding him only to find out that it is Tabitha. During the party , they have shared a lot about themselves and what the want. The feelings they have shared along with the dreams both hold could be lost . Has lots of action and some laughs thru out. What an enjoyable book to read. Would recommend to everyone.

Dukes and Diamonds is the first book in the Victorian Jewel series and what a fabulous start to the series it is! I read it in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down until I found out how it ended!
From the very first pages, I was hooked. The main female character, Tabitha is just the kind of woman that the Duke, Fitz needs. He has hardened his heart to love to protect it, and in doing so comes across as cold and arrogant. He doesn't see the world as Tabitha does and their meeting makes huge changes in their lives. I won't say any more than that about the story because I don't want to give spoilers.
What I will say is that their story was beautiful, it had sad moments, romantic moments, funny ones, and some steamy ones too. Although there were some bedroom scenes, they were passionate, heartfelt, and beautifully written so even if you prefer fade-to-black moments in stories, you shouldn't find yourself offended by what the author has written.
Was the match between Tabitha and Fitz believable, a stickler to the rules might say no, but myself, a believer of love conquers all, I have to say yes, definitely yes! I loved their story!
In her youth, Tabitha stole to survive. She is now with Hannah and Julia and part of their group, The Merry Robins, who steal from those who are arrogant and greedy. Those who care for none but themselves. In the style of Robin Hood, they use to their ill-gotten gains to help orphans, widows, and veterans. The Duke of Helston and his friends are determined and have a plan to bait and catch the jewel thieves stealing from the rich and prominent of London. As different as they are, Fitz and Tabby are drawn to each other from the time they meet. The chemistry between them sizzles. This is the first story in what promises to be an interesting series. Fitz and Tabby are great characters. He was one of the arrogant at first, but Tabby is a good influence for him. Tabby is smart, resourceful, strong, and caring. The secondary characters are delightful. The story has strong emotions, a bit of suspense, friendship, forgiveness, and a wonderful romance. The well-written plot keeps your attention from beginning to the awesome ending. The narration by Nathaniel Priestly is entertaining. I received an ARC of this ebook from BookSirens and voluntarily reviewed it.
Tabitha is not the demure lady that she appears to be, but instead a talented pickpocket. She had lived on the street since the death of her father, and was taken in by Hannah Winslow and Julia Starling, when they observed her stealing jewellery. Together, they have formed the Merry Robins, stealing from the rich who they believe to be ‘terrible and giving to give to the poor. When Fitz Seagrave, the Duke of Helston decides to catch the Merry Robins, by using his grandmother’s diamond, he never expects the thief to be a woman, let alone the woman who has captivated him from their first brief interaction. Their attraction is instantaneous and the romance full of spice. This was a fast-paced novel which quickly drew me in. I liked Tabitha’s honesty about her feelings for Fitz and his as well, even though she hides her secret from him. I loved Fitz’s grandmother who sees the truth behind it all – she had me smiling whenever she appeared in the story. A great romance! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I honestly loved this book. The story was well written and well balanced with good pace and the characters had such an intense and real chemistry. It was a pleasure to read it!
The story is between an arrogant Duke and a common girl forced to become a thief in order to survive. When circumstances in life and chance allow them to meet, their first impression lingered more than any of them understood.
Tabitha was recruited from two daring women of the ton to steal diamonds from undeserved and wealthy members of the ton for good causes. The infamous Duke of Helston has the biggest reward of all if the Merry Robins, that’s how the thieving group is called, are able to steal it from under his nose. The only and significant problem here is Tabitha might question the concept her friends have of the Duke and therefore the whole purpose of stealing from him.
The rest of the characters were interesting and charming, so hopefully will be reading soon about all of them.

Tabitha was living on the streets, stealing to keep herself fed until she met a couple of ladies who steal from the rich to give to the poor. They go by the name the “Merry Robbins “. One of the “jobs” they plan is to steal a jewel from Fitzwilliam Seagrave, the Duke of Helston, since they consider him to be a horrible person for causing the ruination of their friend’s reputation and chance for a happy marriage. Tabitha gets to know the duke and falls in love with him, even though she believes that they wouldn’t have a future together. Fitz thinks he knows best and needs to see that his arrogance and opinions aren’t always the right ones. Fitz becomes a much better person as he gets to know Tabitha and sees things from her perspective. This was a great story and I am looking forward to the next couple of stories.
Tabitha Sherborne lives on the streets of London, pick pocketing, and selling anything of value she can steal, simply to keep body and soul together.
She is recruited by two Ladies, calling themselves The Merry Robins to assist in their aim to help the poor, by their own thieving, and is given a warm, comfy home at last.
Fitsz The Duke of Helston is on the alert about a number of thefts of jewels, and is determined to find out who is behind them.
He and Tabitha meet at a Musicale hosted by his Grandmother, and sparks fly, in a good way.
I found this to be a slow read at first, but I soon changed my mind, and I couldn’t put the book down.
Tabitha and Fitz’s story is unconventional. It features a lovely cast of characters, who are very well drawn, and believable, and for me, many sheddings of tears as the tale unfolded. It’s more than worthy of 5 stars, if not more.

A new take on Robin Hood as the Merry Robin's (Hannah, Julia and Tabitha) take from the arrogant, cruel, and greedy rich to give to orphans, widows and veterans. Fitz (the Beautiful Bastard) isn't looking for love, but then he meets Tabitha (Orphaned pickpocket) and he feels drawn to her. I didn't want to put this book down. It was a fun, sweet, emotional love story between the two lead characters as well as the story of the three female friends. It shows what friendship should be and how love should feel. Unconditional love and support, only wanting the best and looking out for each other.
I forget how good Lauren's writing is. She takes you everywhere all at once and then ties it all up in one pretty bow. I was anxious reading this book, but in a very good way. This will go into my reread pile before the 2nd book comes out.
Dukes and Diamonds is the first book in the Victorian Jewel Book series.
Duke of Helston decides to catch a gang of jewel thieves that he believes will try to steal his grandmother's famous diamond. They have been stealing from the rich who have behaved poorly to others. While waiting for the thieves to come he meets Tabitha who is unlike any other woman he has met. They form an instant connection. But is she as perfect as he believes?
Tabitha is a well-trained pick pocket. She is recruited to join The Merry Robins who steal from the rich and give to the poor. Tabitha steals more than Helston expects. She steals his heart and the diamond when he least expects it.
A fun twist on the Robin Hood story. The characters are wonderfully written and very entertaining. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received an ARC from BookSirens for an unbiased review.
My main issue with this book is that the heroine is a thief, and as such it doesn't feel quite right in that it implies thieving is ok.
Tabitha was left alone in the streets of London after her father died, and to keep herself fed started pick pocketing. On being found out she joins two ladies of the ton, who will I suspect be leads in future books in the series. They feel that stealing from rich unfeeling people to help the poor, homeless and injured soldiers is justifiable, so Tabby joins them and between them they - the red robins become the talk of the ton. Fitz, Duke of Helston has been brought up by his grandmother and has a strong moral code on right and wrong, enhanced perhaps by the loss of his parents when still very young. He and this friends decide to spring a trap to catch the red robins by holding a house party, and using his family jewels as bait. Little does he know the young lady he met at his grandmother's soiree, and whom he's become entranced by is involved. A little slow to get going, but once it did an enjoyable read.
This is a very well rounded story, I loved the concept of taking a woman down on her luck, and using her this way to improve the lives of others, and giving a little payback. For once the story didnt feel hurried, and the romance blossomed nicely, with a few twists and turns and the social barriers that exist between the couple. Will her actions get her thrown in prison, will he ever forgive her. Will he realise his mistakes. To find out you will need to read the full book.
Being the first in the series, there are also several secondary characters, that you meet, and I cant wait for their stories of adventure and love. Overall a really good read. This book does contain some steamy scenes.

Dukes and Diamonds is the 1st book in the Victorian Jewel trilogy featuring three women who band together to steal from the rich and give to the poor. Tabitha is the most 'natural' thief, having been forced by dire circumstances to a life of petty crime. Pairing her with the loftiest, most arrogant of all aristocrats makes for a very engaging, entertaining read. Add in a number of sexy interludes, great supporting characters and an emotional side-story and the series is of to a great start. I'm looking forward to the next! I was lucky to have received a free copy through Booksirens and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
Dukes and Diamonds is the first book in a new series. Fitz, the Duke of Helston decides to catch a gang of jewel thieves who is stealing from London’s rich. It ends up being a woman named Tabitha (stole food since she’s was young), who has friends Julia and Hannah and in which they created “Merry Robins.” I just find this was ok for me. Some of the side characters stories are also getting set up here. I just wanted more from the plot in general. If you want a gender twist on Robin Hood then you would enjoy this one.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This was an entertaining and original story. It had me drawn into its intricate and unique variety of many interesting storylines. There was intrigue, thieving from the rich to give back to the poor, a ruination of character, a loss of friendship, past hardships, and lost, an accident in a rainstorm, a sudden travel across the ocean to correct a wrong done, and it also spoke of war veterans, the poor and orphans plights. I enjoyed how delightful the characters are and watching their personal growth throughout. The romance and steam were beautiful. The ending is quite unique and ends very happily. I highly recommend reading!
