Synopsis: Niki's World is a biographical retrospective of the French artist, Niki de Saint Phalle. The artist's work is beautifully photographed and highlights her highly imaginative and playful art. I could imagine using this book to explain to children how one artist can work in various mediums. Themes/Curriculum Connections: Visual arts Age/Grade Recommendation: Elementary
Niki's World is another part of the “Adventures in Art” series, and is a mini-biography of French artist, Niki de Saint Phalle. Mostly the book features her artwork, in particular her sculptures at the Pompidou Center in Paris, the Nana sculptures, and the Tarot Garden sculptures in Tuscany. The book describes the reasons why she created her artwork. Children will enjoy the brilliant and bright colors that Niki uses and the unusual shapes. The book encourages children to expand their imaginations about what art can be and gives them ideas on how to create their own.
I really liked the artwork in this book. I wanted to use it for one of my class projects but I couldn't find a decent literary review on it, except the one on the publisher's website (and they're obviously biased).
