In the not too distant future, dinosaurs rule the world.
Alan is deposited in a grassy field with all signs of humanity replaced. A few hundred of his peers are given a spear, a few tools, and a to integrate and survive... if they're not eaten first.
This book was pretty good, but not great from my perspective.
Earth is approached by a massive alien ship that snatches all humans from the planet, terraforms it, and releases dinosaurs all over the surface. Then it integrates select humans back onto Earth near their place of birth as long as they are aged 18-28, or prime breeding age. The aliens make it so dinosaur meat acts like an aphrodisiacs and gets people to be intimate. Since almost nobody is reunited with their spouse, people pair up.
The MC is a former military officer with desk job experience. As part of the first wave of groups sent back, he is reunited with several friends from his childhood, including a former girlfriend and a woman who had a huge crush on him. Queue harem easy mode. Combine that with the aphrodisiacs, and it's harem super easy mode. The MC is a decent guy with morals, and quickly becomes one of the powers in the region. He's also OP as all get-out, and the author has him at the center if not outright soloing just about everything with the help of his dinosaurs. He does make some bone headed decisions, like leaving some enemies alive so they can come back and haunt him again later.
The harem members are predictable and while it is a nearly 800 page book, he has 4 confirmed harem members by the end of the book. Two already considered themselves sister wives before they met him, while the third had a life long crush on the MC and was dying to join. So he has 3 right away, and the 4th was so predictable the only surprise is how long it took for her to get busy with the MC. They are decent, but they are also frequently shunted to the side so the MC can be heroic and stuff. The intimate scenes are ok.
The plot hinges on the aliens' involvement in helping out the MC, often in comically bad Dues Ex Machina ways. "Oh, that shouldn't have worked, but since I like you, I'll make an exception" kind of thing. The story reduces to base building and dino wrangling, while dealing with other groups that are either decent or hostile.
If you are into pure male power fantasy where the MC is a one man wrecking crew and handles anything important himself, and you self insert as a reader, you're going to love this book. I personally find the whole aphrodisiacs aspect to be a crude plot mechanism, and it stinks of the "Descent" series by (insert author here) in many ways, including the alien manipulation for entertainment. And I'm not a huge fan of the MC having to be at the front and center of just about everything so he can shine the brightest in all ways. Most of the harem feel like they are barely side characters. Sure, they show up and have tasks to do around the base camp, but the plot is so focused on the MC being everything all the time, it makes the harem seem trivial. I like when the harem feels like vital members that step up and handle major tasks, or actively fight by the MC's side. So the book was somewhat stale for me.
There were only a few typos in the book, but when they happen, they are comically obvious and I can't believe they were missed.
I read the whole book, in part because my internet was down for days due to a cable cut. I always gauge my interest in a book for what I put it down for. In this case, I put it down for hours to work on an actual puzzle. (You know, those 1,000 piece things?) So, it wasn't that gripping.
I really enjoyed this book. The world was well thought out, and consistent. The characters were decently filled out, and didn't all feel like the same person. The plot is fun, and engaging. All around great!
My only criticism, would be that the author may need more editing time on the books. A relatively high number of typos, and character names often got swapped randomly in the middle of a scene. Also one dino eats named something, and then called something else the rest of the book :P
Overall a great book, that would be book store ready with some careful editing! Which seems to be rare and difficult in this genre. Bravo!
Earth has been reshaped to where dinosaurs roam again by an alien race will earth survive again .
Alan Winchester is a Captain in the military doing errands on the way home suddenly the gravity drops everyone is floating in the sky . Then black out . When he comes to he's in a pod speeding down to earth hoping to not die . When he lands earth has changed no civilization everything gone nothing just wild wilderness an dinosaurs roaming freely . recommend reading excellent book .
When I first started this story I expected a well written and fun story. What I didn't n expect was an epic fantasy adventure which in my opinion far out paces anything else this author has written so far!!!!
This book is very well written with great character development and storyline. While there is some of the harem aspect, it's done in good taste and not excessively. Very enjoyable read, im looking forward to the next one
That was different and fun. I look forward to the next book in this series. The characters, the environment, the story held my interest and it was a nice change from some of the stories that are following others.
The story is get entertaining and involved. It gets confusing at some points, but overall very well written. I look forward to reading the next book. I hope humanity kicks the alien overlords butts soon!
