Essential reading to understand film structure. This book dives into the devices used in film that impact our lives. The book is easy to follow and explains concepts in an way that encourages comprehension. If you want to know what makes a film a masterpiece read this book. Good Stories Well Told Volume I is helpful in Film Analysis, writing scripts or novels, and even just to more fully enjoy the experience of seeing a movie.

This was the textbook for my Film Analysis class. It’s a good resource if you want to understand the mechanics of what makes certain movies “work,” and gives you a toolkit for when something you are writing, for whatever reason, doesn’t.
