The border conflict between the Kingdom of Sarjas and the Yutear Empire gave Elizabeth her first opportunity to take revenge. After thwarting the plans of her worst enemy, Prince Friede, and utterly destroying his closest friend, Robert, Elizabeth returns to the imperial capital. Unrest is growing in the Kingdom of Haldoria, but she is still far too weak to take on its power and vassal states by herself. She must keep growing her firm, Traitre, and extend her influence. Fortunately, the emperor may have provided her the perfect a chance to obtain an invaluable certification, called a Special License, that comes with a wide array of benefits. All she has to do is prove herself worthy in the eyes of the sovereigns of the financial world—the seven members of the Empire’s Merchants’ Guild Council.
This volume seemed a little off focus. There was a surprising amount of redundancy in the form of POV shifting. In addition to that there was one last chapter in this book than the last volume. I feel like the focus is moron a checklist of items that are lovely livid lady is trying to turn into businesses and since our author likes to gloss over the nitty-gritty details a large amount of time keeps passing by. While normally I prefer this time passage over the tedious nitty gritty of building up your base, I also feel like there's not a lot of time being dedicated to developing character relationships. There were a few interesting developments in this volume that are interesting enough that I think I'll give volume three a chance when it comes out, but if it weren't for those small details I would be done with the series now. I guess you could sum it up as "almost boring." I think that volume one was good enough to carry over a benefit of the doubt into volume 3 as well. I am hoping that more effort will be dedicated into character plot development.
On a side note, I do think there's an interesting detail to note. So far there has been no love interest for our livid lady. I think that's an interesting choice considering the normal formula for the jilted heroin and these stories is to find a new romance. Considering the amount of time that is passed is in multiples of years (two or three I think, though it's hard to tell with how much time gets hand-waved over by the author) I think it's kind of surprising that she doesn't have anyone even interested in her. It wouldn't be surprising that she herself is uninterested in relationships being so focused on her revenge but not having anyone interested in her seems a bit weird as well. I guess this is not a romance.
There's another detail that I failed to address when reviewing Volume 1 that carried over into volume two. The author continues to have this weird choice of ending each chapter with some future timeline exhibition history piece. Sometimes it's some document that was supposedly written in the near future being quoted in the far future. Sometimes it's a lecture at some form of school discussing history that hasn't passed yet in the stories. I find having these segments at the end of each chapter jarring and distracting from the story itself. I wish the author had them at the end of the book as some sort of bonus chapter instead. There was one in particular in this volume that was far enough into the future that they had modern technology such as television and podcasts. I feel like these kind of interludes don't belong in this setting. It really just breaks character for lack of a better way to describe the feeling. It also doesn't really add much to the story so in a way it feels like it's just taking up space I could have been better spent on telling more of the actual story. Almost a worthless filler.
This volume focused on economic devastation as part of the revenge. I love how all these ancient texts that Ellie read while trapped in her home country are helping her destroy them now. Getting to hear about the effects on the kingdom through Rose is the cherry on top
The story is good. A young girl gets wronged by her upcomming partner. She does not get Help or support those around her. Power is more impotent . The story is then split in two. The publick good girl And agent of power
