Because she made a reckless promise, Poppy Grayson finds herself on a dude ranch, pretending to be a woman on the make. She hates it.
And she has a love-at-first-sight problem with Mac. He'll do anything to protect his sister's marriage—even seduce a gorgeous home-wrecker. He loves it.
Is Poppy a woman on the prowl for someone else's husband?
Is Mac a charismatic cowboy with nothing on his mind but seduction?
Well, no.
But she has a reason to pretend and so does he. Keeping up the act takes them through a sexy, funny romp on the way to a happy ending.
Writing romance was a natural for Jenny Andersen, given her lifelong fascination with words. (And men.) Like most writers, she has had a number of weird jobs and strange experiences that sometimes mutate and show up in her stories. Jenny has an M.A. in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania; the master's thesis turned into her first book, Loving Luke, for The Wild Rose Press.
Being labeled a beautiful bimbo drives Poppy Grayson nuts
Poppy's a serious scientist, a genetics expert with a Ph.D. and - until recently - a tenure track position at a prestigious Boston university. But Poppy's also an impulsive redhead, and she's sick and tired of being the target of other women's jealousy because of her looks.
Desperate to escape the unfair "Other Woman" crisis that lost her the best job she ever had, Poppy impulsively agrees to help a friend-of-a-friend save his marriage - and ends up stranded on a Montana ranch in an impossible situation when her client's wife calls for help.
This feel-good romp is set on a wild Montana ranch where some great characters help - and hinder - the course of true love. Take one sexy redhead named Poppy and add a hothead cynic who thinks he's done with love. Mix with an escalating cluster of suspicions and miscommunications. Result - a fun romance and some great scenery.
I spent an enjoyable evening reading this light romance, with the added bonus that it brought back pleasant memories of my own years living in remote places.
What happens when a college professor from Boston meets a hunky rancher...sparks fly, of course. Reckless Promise is a steamy contemporary romance set on a Montana dude ranch. Poppy, the heroine, accepts the plea of a friend to try to save a marriage (the owners of the dude ranch). But the method of helping the troubled couple is not the wisest--the husband believes that the best way to restore his wife's love and passion is to make her jealous. Poppy reluctantly accepts the make-believe role as Other Woman. She ends up not only making the wife jealous, but infuriating her own new guy, Mac, the wife's sexy rancher brother.
Reckless Promise is charming and delightfully written. The characters are sympathetic and their problems seem real. I did think the basic misunderstanding between the hero and heroine went on a bit too long, but the characters were so appealing that I was willing to let that objection go and enjoy the ride.
Reckless Promise features a hot redhead who can also be a hot head. In moments of stress she makes rash decisions and gives reckless promises which she then thinks she must keep, no matter how outlandish. Her latest promise sends her to a dude ranch in Wyoming run by a married couple and her promise is to help improve their strained relationship. No, she is not a counselor. Her promise involves an unorthodox approach. She regrets the promise almost the day after she makes it but she doesn't regret the trip because, wow, the cowboy she meets there is, well, wow is the only way to describle him. Andersen is a good storyteller who understands her genre. If you like your romance reading hot, this one definitely has sizzle.
