Nothing we haven't heard before. Be positive, blah, blah. It's written for a specific audience and therefore the language is confined to that group...which in my mind, doesn't allow it to translate to people of differing backgrounds, etc.
Plus she doesn't take into account people with mental illness, which is OK, since that was out of her scope. But I still think with her specific group in mind...aka LDS Mormon women, it would've been nice to have her think a bit beyond the box. These may be 15 secrets to her happy home, but doesn't mean it'll work for everyone. In some ways it reinforces the idea that if you're not doing everything and super happy then there is something wrong with you...and that can lead to inadequacy, guilt, and shame. I know that's a bit harsh and I'm not saying that for everyone, just in my experience.
This book is inspiring. It felt a little slow at first, but by the end of the book I was in tears - happy tears, but tears! It really gives you perspective on enjoying life right now, no matter what it is handing you. I have a deeper appreciation for my sweet family and the work I do to take care of them, and I even feel like there are a lot of things I am doing right! I love that she gives you "put it into practice" ideas at the end of every chapter.
This book I read slowly. I really enjoyed Janene Basdsgaard's views and insights in this book. It was nice to see I'm not the only one that struggles with kids and life. :) I like that it has goals at the end of each chapter to help but into practice what that chapter was about. A book to go back and read every now and again.
This is one of those books that points out the things you already know or have an idea of. It is great because it lets you know that you are doing ok. Each chapter is great awith insight and humor and some tears. I also love that she gives practices to do at the end of each chapter. I think that all women need to have a copy to peruse now and then.
Quick and uplifting. A book I will read many times.
I read this book every few years. It's a quick and uplifting read and each chapter gives you a practical habit to work on to improve your attitude and happiness in your home. "We can choose to be grouchy, bitter and negative, or we can choose to be pleasant, hopeful and positive. The choice is ours."
This book had lots of great advice. It would be hard to do all of the suggestions at once, but definatly worth it in the long run. It said to do something you have always wanted to do but haven't so today I joined the Choir!
I love Janene Baadsgaard!! She gives common sense suggestions, good advice, and frank facts all wrapped up with a fabulous sense of humor so that when you realize that you really need to work on something and improve you can do it while laughing at yourself instead of beating yourself up!
Church book club for March. Full of great ideas and thoughts to help us make the best of life and a sometimes chaotic filled home full of youngsters! (But not as full as hers) An easy book to read quickly and frequently for many reminders of how to improve our homes and attitudes.
I'm taking this one chapter at a time, taking notes and posting them on my mirror for a week. I read them everyday. This book has some wonderful tips for changing your attitude about the world around you. Words to live by for sure!
This was a short book. It had a lot of really cool ideas though. I have been trying to read books that teach happiness in a hope that it will help with the depression that I have every winter. I have felt much better. I wouold recommend it to any one who is seeking happiness.
