Kept Safe, book 2.5 of Assurance Security series by Jillian West @jillianwestauthor. First, I am a fan of Jillian’s & this book was no different!
This was a great novella about Keeley, Merrick, Steele & Soren available via Jillian’s newsletter. Tropes: Omegaverse, RH, no MM, pregnant Omega & Mercenaries.
It definitely needs to be read after Ready or Not & Damaged Princess.
Yes, to find this book, you have to Google the author and sign up for her newsletter and then download it. I love that we get to find out what happens with Merrick and Steele. I love those characters. However, to get to this storyline you have to read damaged princess which is probably my least favorite book West has ever written.
The other part that kills me is that in this Novella, West did this … “Note: There is a time jump here. After the last chapter in the past, Soren, Keeley, Merrick, and Steele left for North Carolina. They arrived at the house where Anastasia was riding out her heat during the course of Damaged Princess. Keeley and the guys spent that time growing closer. Merrick, Steele, and Keeley have been intimate, and their relationship has progressed romantically, much to Soren’s dismay. We pick up here” Excerpt From Kept Safe, Jillian West.
Like wtf?!? The first time they’re intimate is a central part of any of the characters’ relationships. Especially getting into overcoming that age gap or Merrick’s shyness.

I didn't really like this story. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't the story I wanted to read after seeing these characters in other books. I hate reading stories with two timelines alternating back and forth so I am sure that's part of it. Especially since I didn't really gain anything from the past. And the future bits felt like the last few pages of a story wrapping things up. Having read this after I completed the series, I don't think it added anything to the series for me. Maybe that would be different if I read it in order?
Kept Safe (novella) Rating: 4 ⭐ Genre: omegaverse Format: eBook Pages: 101 Spice: 2 🌶️ POV: 1st POV S/S: Assurance Security Check trigger warnings for any book
This is a novella side quest book after the first 2 books in the series. I liked this book a lot. It was missing something for me because I haven’t read the Damaged Princess series. It’s recommended to read those and the Assurance Security Duet before this book. But still it was a pleasant short read. I really liked Soren.
Maybe it's my fault, I rushed to read the "Omega Exchange" series because I wanted so bad to know what happened to Merrick and Steele, and the novella wasn't what I expected. I feel like they deserved maybe something more? In the end a cute novella
This was a great shorter Omegaverse story. If you have read the first two books in the Assurance Security series, you know who Merrick and Steele are, as they pop up briefly in that duet. You definitely want to read that duet first, along with Anastasia’s story in Damaged Princess, as this novella is not a complete story. A lot of the background of these characters is introduced in these books and is necessary to understanding this one.
I was so happy that Merrick and Steele were reunited with Keeley in this story. My heart broke for these two when they met Vale and she literally felt their pain. They definitely deserved their HEA with Keeley. It was great to get the rest of her story, too.
