An unforgettable and emotionally charged story of two mothers whose lives are changed forever by a devastating accusation – and how far they’ll go to protect those they love.
I was so happy when my son, Knox, began dating my best friend’s daughter. Our kids grew up together and we used to joke, as we sipped wine and watched them play, that they’d get married one day. But when Knox came home late after a party, zipping his hoodie up to hide the scratches I caught a glimpse of on his collarbone, a chill went down my spine.
That night, our whole world shattered. Now, I hardly recognize my husband as he sweeps into action, calling in a hot-shot lawyer to defend our boy.
I love my son, but what if I don’t know him at all? It turns out, everything I thought I knew about my perfect family is a lie. And I’m about to discover just what I’ll do to stop it from falling apart.
This addictive novel will draw you deep into the heart of seemingly happy families and expose the dark secrets that lie within them. Fans of Liane Moriarty, Jodi Picoult and Celeste Ng will be utterly gripped by Such a Good Family.
“How do you know if you are in love?” Summer asks her neighbor Jules. “If you have to ask the question-YOU’RE NOT”.
Lorrie and Eden were neighbors and best friends who joked that perhaps one day they would become “actual family” instead of “found family” if their kids grew up and married. So, they were thrilled when Lorrie’s son, Knox did start dating Eden’s daughter, Summer.
Thrilled until Knox came home with scratches on his neck-and Summer ended up at the hospital-accusing him of RAPE.
NO means NO.
And, often the BEST of intentions-ends up with the WORST of results.
You may THINK that you have read this story before but trust me-you haven’t.
Caitlin Weaver has penned a story about relatable people who will feel like friends and neighbors you might have- and she will explore how this sexual assault affects everyone in each family from several POV’s while remaining sensitive to the VICTIM.
Lorrie and Eden were once two friends who leaned on one another for everything, but each must now do what they feel is best for their own child, despite what once seemed to be an unbreakable bond between the two women.
And, they will stop at nothing.
As the lines in the sand are drawn, friends and neighbors must decide which TRUTH to believe.
Gripping and thought provoking, this well written novel hooked me from page one-and I will definitely be watching for the author’s next book! It’s always exciting to discover a talented new writer!
Can we really be a good judge of character when it comes to our loved ones?
Such a Good Family is a complex story showing how relationships and the lives of two best friends changes after a devastating accusation. Lorrie and Eden are best friends and are over the moon when Lorrie’s son Knox and Eden's daughter Summer start dating. The happiness is short lived when an accusation is made, and it tears both families/ friendships apart.
This story drew me in from word go. Its not your typical thriller but more a contemporary family drama book. We are reading from 6 POVS (Lorrie, Eden, Knox, Summer, Archie (Lorrie's other son) and Jules(Next door neighbour)) which I know is a LOT but trust me it’s not complicated at all and was very easy to read. I don’t want to ruin or sway the readers as we all interpret people and their behavior's in different ways but a lot of these characters IRKED TF out of me! I just couldn’t excuse some people’s decisions and kept questioning ‘what would I really do in this situation’. This is one of those books that would make a great book club discussion and really exposes what goes on behind closed doors even from the ‘perfect family’.
⋆。°✩WHAT I LIKED⋆。°✩ ➽ The POVS ➽ Short Chapters ➽ Easy to read ➽ Very thought provoking
⋆。°✩WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE⋆。°✩ ➽ Would have liked some of the characters to be fleshed out a bit more ➽ The absolute stupidity of one parent is still triggering me! ➽ So so about the ending
This was an unputdownable book and I was blazing through the pages trying to comprehend everyone’s thought process. The author did a great job for her debut book and I cant wait to read more from her.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me a physical copy. All views and opinions are entirely of my own.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When the author reached out to me about her book and i read the blurb, i knew instantly i had to read this! Fingers crossed for a 5 star read!!🤍🧡
CHALLENGING, RIVETING, AND CAPTIVATING Lorrie and Eden have been best friends for 15 years and live across the street from each other. They get coffee together at their favorite coffe shop, they have book club, hang out at each other’s houses drinking wine, carpools, and raised their kids together since they were babies. They use to joke about how their kids will grow up and get married. As their kids high school graduation approaches, Summer and Knox start dating. Everything seems to be going how they envisioned it. Then Eden gets a call from her next door neighbor that Summer is at the hospital. When Eden gets there to find out what happened, all Summer can really say is KNOX. One accusation flips everyone's world upside down in a matter of minutes. What do you do when your friendship is ripped apart and the one you count on and turn to can't be there to help you. The story follows both moms as they try to unravel their family crisis and the lengths they will go to protect the ones they love.
This story was impactful, thought-provoking, and emotional. At times it was hard to put yourself in each characters shoes and think about what you would do if you were that person. One aspect of this book that I loved is that it showed how the accusation affected everyone not just the main characters. I was so mad at Eden and even though it is not the decision I might of made I can understand why maybe she felt it was the best thing to do at the time. I would say this book is more a domestic drama than a thriller.
Thank you to Netgalley, Storm Publishing, and Caitlin Weaver for granting me early access to this book in exchange for an honest review!
Lorrie and Eden have been neighbors, best friends, wives, and mothers. They joked about their children growing up and getting married, but they never saw how their lives would change when an accusation was made. Summer, Eden's daughter has made an accusation against Knox, Lorrie's son. Both women want to support their child. Both are heartbroken, shocked, and reeling. I could not help but feel for each of the women. Each loves their child, each wants to protect their child, each will make decisions, each will feel pain.
Whew! This book put me through the ringer. It is equal parts thought provoking and heartbreaking. This book is told through the POVs of various characters which made for a gripping read. Getting into the minds of various characters, knowing their thoughts, emotions, and motivations was a nice touch. I felt for the characters, even when I was shocked by their decisions. As the characters went thought various emotions, I was right there with them. Caitlin Weaver did a tremendous job of making the reader feel what the characters are feeling.
This is not a happy-go-lucky book. It is deep, evokes emotion, and deals with difficult subject matter. I found that the author handled this with care and grace.
Well thought out, well written, and gripping.
Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
What happens when in a single moment your entire life falls apart?
This is what happens to two suburban neighbouring families in an affluent area where the wives are best friends, whose children have grown up together. When Lorrie’s eldest son Knox begins dating Eden’s only child Summer, the two mothers’ have mixed feelings about the relationship. They feel the young adults are too young to get serious, and since it’s their senior year, they’re months away from heading to two different colleges. What they would never, ever have anticipated is that the week before graduation Summer would accuse Knox of rape. Knox claims it was consensual, Summer insists it wasn’t. Now there’s a divide between Lorrie and Eden, Knox and Summer, their family and friends, and the wider community. Can forgiveness even come from such an unforgivable act?
I award 4.5 stars to Such a Good Family. It was heartbreaking, uncomfortable, emotional, and gut-wrenching. The plot went in an unexpected direction, and I liked that it did. I also appreciated that things were never overly dramatic, outlandish, or twisty with secrets coming out of the woodwork, and that it remained realistic and grounded in reality. The main themes were trauma, sexual consent, victim-blaming, loss, family crisis and breakdown, ostracism, and suburban social cliques, but also, picking up the pieces, moving on, starting over, growing up, and coming of age.
The multiple POV’s allow you to experience the fallout from all sides and show each character’s reactions, feelings, views, and coping mechanisms. Several chapters took place prior to the incident starting six months beforehand, but the majority of the book focused on the aftermath taking place over the span of a week.
A discussion-invoking and thought-provoking read which would make a great book club selection. I don’t usually like to compare authors, but the tone, style, and emotional impact reminded me of Jodi Picoult, Celeste Ng, and Angie Kim. I highly recommend this debut.
An unforgettable and emotionally charged story of two mothers whose lives are changed forever by a devastating accusation – and how far they’ll go to protect those they love. Personally, I think you're best to go into this book without knowing too much ahead of time.
I was totally immersed in the story which is told from multiple POV’s and runs the gamut of many emotions. The characters are well fleshed out and realistic. Every time I picked it up, I couldn't stop reading and was anxious to learn the outcome. I really liked the ending of the story. Many readers will imagine themselves in the position of one or another of the characters and will ask themselves "What would I do?" A tough question with no right or wrong answer. Highly recommended.
TW: Sexual assault.
My thanks to Storm Publishing via Netgalley for approving my request to read an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own. Publication Date: June 12, 2024
I could not stop reading this book! I related to Eden and felt her anger. However, I also understood the anguish that Lorrie was going through. No parent wants to find themselves in either woman’s position concerning their child. The author writes a haunting, effective story from multiple POV’s. She draws on the emotions of anger, hurt, betrayal, fear, agony and distress, love, protection to draw a very human, thought provoking story. I think this will stay with me for a while.
Thank you NetGalley, Storm Publishing and the author for the ARC. This is my honest, voluntary review
Best friends…kids the same age…how many times have we joked about our kids marrying each other and how amazing that would be? Probably ALOT! This novel intrigued me from the beginning and honestly I couldn’t put it down. Author Caitlin Weaver did such an amazing job with a sensitive topic and the reality is earth shattering!
“ Such a Good Family” sets itself apart from the rest in the way that it broaches dark secrets of seemingly the happiest of families. It brings to the forefront what is often hidden or silenced. An accusation that could potentially destroy many is tethered by fear of the past and the future.
Readers like you and I have difficulty sometimes reading something that’s challenging to accept or so heart wrenching that we steer away from it. There’s something about this novel that grips you from the beginning. Is it that we are rooting for one family or the other ? Or is it that this could potentially happen to our own family or someone else’s?
I believe as a reader, you will delve into the families of Knox and Summer, two high school kids who grew up together and as their interest in each other takes on a new role you”ll sympathize with the reality of their unknown and unexpected path. Two families and a community brought to the forefront of our judgement and our own personal opinions.
I highly recommend “Such a Good Family” written by Author Caitlin Weaver. It’s a MUST read! Thank you @stormpublishing @netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this one, but I saw it at the library and decided to pick it up. I wouldn't exactly classify this as a thriller; it's more of a family drama/fiction. There is suspense in the sense that, like any new story, you don't know how things will end, but it's definitely not the kind of suspense you think of when you pick up a mystery or thriller. That being said, I enjoyed the author's writing. Weaver did an excellent job interweaving various plotlines to keep the reader engaged. The characters were complex and realistically developed. The book was filled with drama, which was entertaining despite some heavier topics. There were a lot of bittersweet moments along with those that tug at your heart. Overall, it's a good book, and I would recommend it. As long as you understand the type of book it is and don't go in thinking this is a mystery, I think it can be enjoyed. A solid 4-stars. ✨
This was my first Caitlin Weaver book and wow - I’m super impressed! I was hooked from the start and didn’t want to put it down.
Best friends and neighbors, Lorrie and Eden have always thought how fun it would be if their children - who have grown up together - would one day start dating. Now that their kids are about to graduate from high school, that wishful thinking has become a reality.
Everything is perfect until one day when Eden‘s daughter makes a terrible accusation against Lorrie’s son. It takes a toll on both families and tough decisions need to be made.
This book is extremely impactful and thought provoking. It is filled with heartbreak and emotion. Told in multiple POV’s - Weaver does an excellent job of really making you feel for these characters.
I highly recommend this domestic drama if you’re a fan of the genre.
Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Caitlin Weaver for my advanced copy to read and review.
Thank you, Storm Publishing & NetGalley for allowing me early access to Such a Good Family by Caitlin Weaver. This story follows Eden & Lorrie. Best friends. Raised their kids together. Live in the same neighborhood. Book Club. Boosters. Carpools. The whole nine yards. When Eden's daughter, Summer, accuses Lorrie's son, Knox, of S/A their senior year of high school, everything changes. With both woman having the same goal, protecting their family, what other secrets will fall out?
I really liked that this author provoked the question, what is the right answer? I liked the character development and the story never seemed stagnant or repetitive.
If you are looking for a thought provoking, page turner, that will stay with you for a little while, THIS IS IT.
The writing was really good but let’s be fr here this was trash. All the parents in this book failed the children. There was no real plot twist & the ending was flat literally no answers to anything.
Archie was my favorite character & um yeah I’m mad with yall don’t suggest nothing else to me. 😒
This book was terribly sad while also being very compelling- I finished it in one day. It centers on 2 families: Lorrie and Eden have been best friends since their kids, Knox and Summer, were babies and they are now getting ready to graduate and have started dating. When an incident between Summer and Knox occurs, it rips the friendship apart. You also get chapters told from the POV of one of Lorrie’s other kids and from their neighbor, Jules.
I could emphasize with all of the main characters in this story and felt deeply for what they were all experiencing. While some of the decisions made might not have been decisions I would personally make, I understood why they did the things they did, and the whole thing just made me sad. This is definitely a domestic drama vs a thriller and it will make you feel a whole range of emotions. I wish the end had turned out differently and am going to tell myself that things are worked out in another way as these characters live their after-book lives :)
Overall, I think this is a book worth reading that is very relevant in the current day and age. I think these characters will stick with me. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a compelling & heartbreaking story. This was one of the most realistic stories that cover this topic that I have ever read. Weaver really approached such a heavy story with care and understanding, where I felt like I understood everyone’s emotion during their POV. I can’t wait to read more from her! Thank you to the author for sending me the NetGalley arc. 4.5⭐️
Such a Good Family was an emotional and gripping read. It was one of those books that really makes you think and I had so much empathy for the characters.
I love that Weaver told this story through several narrators. It added a complexity and depth to the story while also giving us different perspectives and allowing the reader to open their minds to every situation. I read this novel but I'm sure it would be a great choice for audio.
As a mother, this novel hit me in ways I didn't expect. I have a son and I kept imagining myself in Lorrie's position. I commended her for keeping the faith and trust in her husband while also trying to empathize with the situation and do the right thing. It was also easy as a woman to put myself in Eden's shoes and be angry and fearful and devastated for her daughter.
I really appreciated the way that Weaver handled the sexual assault in this case. It is an incredibly sensitive topic and it's often messy and more gray than black or white and I thought Weaver did a great job depicting all those competing elements. We saw not only the ramifications of the police, hospital, and legal aspects, but also the emotional toll on the victim, perpetrator, and their families. That the families were such good friends added an element of drama that was also incredibly thought provoking and devastating.
Overall, I really loved this book. It was well written, emotionally charged, had depth and complexity, and raised really important issues. It would be a good one for a book club to read and discuss.
Wow! THIS is the kind of book I crave! One of the best I’ve read this year. It sucked me in from the first page, and I didn’t put it down until I was finished. It’s a heartbreaking, thought provoking read that fans of Jodi Picoult will love.
Such a Good Family focuses on two families: Eden and Lorrie have been neighbors and best friends for years, their kids the same age. When Eden’s daughter and Lorrie’s son start dating, the two are thrilled… until a tragic incident disrupts their entire world.
Caitlin Weaver did an excellent job with character development as I felt I could relate to all the major players. The main themes in this story are so relevant, especially in today’s society, and she handled it very nicely.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a more domestic drama/mystery as opposed to a thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley, Caitlin Weaver, and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book. To be published June 12, 2024
This book is a domestic drama rather than a thriller, and it's a rollercoaster ride of emotions as a lot happens in just one week. The story shows how everyone is complex, and even good people can end up doing bad things.
It's sad to see the friendship between the two moms fall apart due to the decisions made by their children. The story is told from multiple points of view, making it easy to follow. It deals with relevant and current topics, such as the complexities of best friends and their families. Lorrie and Eden, who live across the street from each other in a seemingly perfect neighborhood filled with stay-at-home moms, dream of their families becoming one when their kids start dating. However, things take a drastic turn in the final days of Knox and Summer's senior year.
Overall, I believe this is a book that's worth reading, especially in today's day and age.

This was a well written book for such a hard topic. This book covered all subject of rape- this book showed us different pov from the victim, the person accused, the family members. The author did a great job at character building. Even though this may be a hard topic, I’m glad it’s being talked about more.
This will be available June 12,2024 on kindle unlimited.
Thank you to @NetGalley and @StormPublishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Important yet uncomfortable book to read. Two best friends with kids that are seniors. The kids start dating, what could be better?? After a party when they are drinking, Summer is sexually assaulted by Knox. This puts family against family. Stories like these are tough yet important, and should help all of us be brave enough to have conversations with our kids about consent.
Parents of both boys and girls, would you rather have your son be accused of assault or your daughter assaulted?
I appreciate that they didn’t paint Knox as a “monster” because it’s easy to have a black and white view of this important issue. He said things like “but we’ve done it before” which is a red flag that means he didn’t get it. And that isn’t any less awful to Summer. Most rapists don’t think they are rapists, because they don’t understand consent.
What I have a hard time with is this; after being raped, if the victim reports, what happens to them afterwards is sometimes so traumatic that they choose to stay silent. Most stories like this are realistic in that way, that is why so few are reported.
The ripple effect of a single accusation can seem endless. Best friends, Lorrie and Eden live across the street from one another in a seemingly idyllic neighborhood filled with stay at home moms, all set on maintaining that perfect public perception. After their kids start dating, they dream of their families becoming one, but when the kids, Knox and Summer, are in the final days of their senior year, things go sideways. In a big way. This one event changes so much, for so many and pulls some serious skeletons out of hiding. I could have used a little bit more closure but I was riveted from the first to final page.
Often this many characters and points of view can be confusing and hard to follow, but Caitlin Weaver did a fantastic job.
Thanks to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Caitlin Weaver for the eARC.
4.5⭐️ First off thank you so much to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this great read! I’ll definitely be looking into more of Caitlin Weavers novels. I read this so fast and couldn’t put it down it kept me intrigued from start to finish.
This book is so important to read. As someone in my late twenties I know that what has happened in this book is far too common.
Two moms, neighbors, and best friends have what they assume will be the best set up that one’s son and the others daughter begins to date. High school and teenage love is thrilling and crazy as it is but when an allegation is made it sheds light on what happens a lot during relationships whether they be young or old. A mother will stop at nothing to protect their child. What happens when your child is accused of doing the unthinkable to their partner ? Told from alternating points of view find out how one moment can affect two families for the rest of their lives. This book taught an incredible lesson about young love and the power of “no means no”. I would recommend this story to anyone. It is deep and compelling and showed the story we all know too well unfortunately from all sides of the coin.
This book comes out 6/12 so make sure you add it to your summer TBR!
What if your perfect little family wasn’t even close to the family you thought it was and is just a home running on nothing but lies ? Would you keep the secrets or do something about them ?
Such a Good Family is a heavy read full of multiple POV’s that centers around family saga and friends .
Lorrie’ and Eden are best friends and their children Knox and Summer grew up together and have now started dating each other .
Until one night when an accusation from Summer accuses Knox rapping her.
It’s crazy how one accusation is basically a ticking time bomb and opens the flood gates to more turmoil for the families ..
This book was an emotional rollercoaster and I felt compassion for a couple of the characters and was shocked with one of the twists near the end .
This is a well written novel , great character development and think this would make a fantastic Book club discussion book .
Trigger warnings : Rape , Sexual Assault
Thank you NetGalley , Storm Publishing and Caitlin Weaver for this Digital ARC !
Solid 3 read! Talk about a timely subject. The premise of the book was great and I loved all the character perspectives. Unfortunately the book just went on for too long and kind of took away from the story. This would make a great book club book. Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC!
This is an emotional and thought-provoking, amazing debut. First of all, thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC for my review. The book will be released in the UK on 12th June.
The story follows two mothers, Lorrie and Eden, and their families. Lorries and Eden are best friends and neighbours who both have children. They have often joked that whilst growing up, their children should get married when they grow up. However, when Eden's daughter Summer accuses Lorrie's son of sexual abuse, all of their lives are impacted.
This book is, first of all, very well written and a very easy read. The subject of sexual abuse is handled sensitively, and due to the characters in the book being so realistic and relatable, the emotions really shine from this story.
There were many thoughts and questions that the author provoked during her storytelling that were interesting and compelling throughout, making the pages turn easy. This kind of work made me compare the author to the likes of Jodi Picoult, but written by a multiple of character viewpoints.
As the story progresses in this domestic drama, Weaver shows that awful things and bad decisions can be made by good people and how this can have a big impact on others and their relationships.
I really loved this book and would highly recommend it if you like a thought-provoking, emotionally charged family drama with good character work that tackles a sensitive topic.
This might be the next book club choice that you should grab because the conversation that came out of it would be interesting in both a tense and eye opening way.
It’s the story of two women best friends. One is a single mother to a daughter Summer and the other is a mother to three kids (two sons and 1 little girl- why does this matter… because it does). When Summer and Knox fall in love, the best friends envision wedding bells and decades of celebrating life’s milestones together. Until one night, when Eden gets a phone call that her daughter is in the hospital. From that moment on, the blend of the experiences unravel.
Each chapter is another POV in the story. Slowly being the voice and trying to gather what happened and how blurry the lines can get.
I suspect as a reader that your reaction to the novel will also be blurrier by the lens of your own life experiences. Whether you’re a mother of a daughter, a parent of a son, or a woman that has her own trauma bleeding into how she parents, this book will make you feel in a lot of different ways.
I will caution sensitive readers to please Dm first if you think you may need the trigger warnings.
Special thank you to NetGalley, Caitlin Weaver And Storm Publishing for an ARC of this incredible novel. I absolutely loved the story from start to finish. I would highly recommend!!
The fact is that both families failed their children so much. Lorrie and Ed failed Knox by not seeing that he literally had a porn addiction.
He even tried to talk with his dad, but he was being an asshole and a machoman, and he wasn't able to see the problem.
Witt and Eden also failed Summer, BUT DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON EDEN. When something like that happens, you have to put your daughter first. I get it. You have a trauma, and you think the same thing is going to happen to your daughter, BUT YOU HAVE TO LET HER TAKE THE KIT.
YOU HAVE TO LET HER MAKE THE DECISIONS.
YOU DONT GET TO CHOSE HOW SHE ACTS AFTER THIS, IT'S HER TRAUMA, NOT YOURS.
F you, Eden.
Overall, I didn't like the characters (none of them except Archie), and it kind of felt like there wasn't any plot. If I wanted to read a story that ended that way, I just have to open a newspaper, it's sadly an everyday thing.
