Familiar Threat is book two in The Keepers series by Stephanie St. Klaire. This is the conclusion to Charlie and Cane’s story. The first half of their story was book one, Final Deception. Note: This book was previously published as Close Encounter, Part 2.
After everything that happened in Las Vegas, Cane, Charlie and the team have moved to their base of operations, Portland, Oregon. They were sure that the evil serial killer, Anson Deveraux is dead. There is no way he could have survived that explosion. But as soon as they arrived in Portland, the bodies again started piling up, not just in Portland but all over the place! How could this be? Who is behind it?
“She lived on edge, and he lived to neutralize the fear that left her there.”
All Cane wants to do is keep Charlie safe. Where their relationship began while in Vegas as benefits only, scratching an itch, fulfilling a need...it has grown to so much more. Cane has fallen for Charlie as she has for him.
“After all the ugly I’ve seen in this world, I didn’t think it could ever lead me to something so beautiful.”
This again was fairly non-stop from the start. And I was delighted that Eddie and Skye were back in the mix again. These two have changed so much since we first met them in the first book. I was so glad to see Charlie making strides to overcome her triggers. It was Cane that gave her the courage to do this. These two have been through so much, I was cheering from my couch for them to finally get their bad guy and have a chance at their HEA! And of course, the author had to throw in a twist to surprise us. If I had one complaint, it is that there was a lot of back and forth, arguing or whatever, between the characters at crucial points when there should have been no talking at all and action only. I was thinking, “why are you standing there arguing? Get going!”
Both of these books were so suspenseful, but also steamy and sweet, with some witty banter thrown in. I enjoyed them both so much and will definitely be coming back to this author.
We knew there just had to be more! To continue this intense story, one needs a very large beverage and a comfy sitting area! It’s finally time to see what really happened at the end of Part One. Let me just say, the description of Cane’s brother, Killian, makes me sit up and pay very close attention! He sounds HOT!
The writing here is superb. The feeling of being absorbed right into the story and into this electrifying series of events with the need to identify the killer, Anson Devereaux, or to verify his death from the deadly explosion at the anti-climatic end of Part One. The team assigned to solve this case is top-notch and deadly in their own right with serious elite skills minutely finessed to track, flush out and destroy the threat against their friends and family.
We can feel Charlie’s fear, her absolute conviction that Anson Devereaux is still alive and still hunting her. We can also feel Cane’s frustration at not being able to honestly relieve Charlie’s fears that her life is still in danger. He is also confused on a personal level where Charlie’s feelings about him are focused while his are becoming more clear.
Right away this story gets intense and twisty, but has you determined to help guess who is involved and how was Anson’s survival possible? How is he always one step ahead of them? Did he survive or is this some copy cat serial killer? Either way, he has Charlie completely freaked out as if he can be coordinating this from the grave.
I love this storyline and the progression of Charlie’s healing and acceptance of Cane in her life. I also grew to love Cane’s determination to help Charlie recognize and let go of her fears and to count on him to always be there for her. I love that he is her protector and her hero, not perfect, but hers. I enjoyed the interactions of the secondary characters and feel their familiar connection from previous stories. I am looking forward to what is coming next with the other characters in this story, specifically, Killian and Mercy, they will be exciting as well!
This was the a wonderful conclusion from part 1. This book had so many twists, turns & kept me guessing from the start. I loved that Charlie & Cane have gone to Vegas to the Watermark Tower, the safest place he can think of. The Brothers Keepers are amazing at helping to solve the case.
This is as gripping and enthralling as the beginning was. The main issue is who’s behind the rash of murders crossing the nation? Anson Devereaux’s dead, or is he? Are these just copycat killings or something much more sinister? Trust the Keepers to figure it out.
Cane and Charlie are back in Portland for this exciting, edge of your seat conclusion, and it’s a real corker! With all of the intelligence and technology contained in Watermark Tower, it should be a cinch, but there’s a surprising twist or two which add to the overall suspense of the story and are sure to keep you guessing.
The passion between Cane and Charlie is only growing stronger as their feelings for each other and the situation become more intense. There’s a lot in this tale that is sure to keep you glued to its pages from start to finish. It has been an explosive spin-off from the Brother’s Keepers series, and one that’s sure to leave you anxious for more.
This book is fast paced and so so so good! I couldn't put it down. Charlie and Cane are back in Portland and still dealing with the crazy man after Charlie. But oh man does all craziness breakout. I loved it! Stephanie St Klaire has a way of making you feel like you are right there in the book! This book was even better then part one and I didn't think that could happen. I love The Brothers Keepers series and am loving this spin off as well! I can't wait until the next book!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow, I didn’t see that one coming! Absolutely loved this one. It was fast paced, gripping and enthralling from start to finish. This one kept me on my toes, so to speak. I usually can somewhat figure out what is happening when I am reading, but not this one! It was definitely a story that kept me totally engrossed as I had to find out what was going to happen next. Of course I was trying to figure it out as well, but was wrong most of the time. I just love the brother’s keeper family, they are serious and very entertaining band of brothers. Don’t want to give away too much on this one, as it is best doing a blind read, it is truly worth it. One of my favorite reads this year so far.
Continuing from part one. The nightmare continues for Cane and Charlie, the explosion left very little in the way of evidence and more murders point to the devil having survived. Killian working hard on ciber starts to find clues, but can he find enough and soon enough to keep them all alive. This was tense, there is suspense and some action. The budding relationship builds and Charlie slowly starts to heal a little. It is a fast paced read and ends with a happy conclusion so no cliff this time. I really enjoyed it. Started and finished 1/11/21
The story of Cane and Charlie/Emily began in Close Encounter Part 1 and must be read before Part 2. Charlie is the only survivor of a serial killer and is under the protection of Brother's Keeper, specifically Cane, until the murderer is apprehended. Both of these books deliver an edge of your seat, white knuckle suspense that had me reading into the wee hours of the morning. The writing is crisp, the storyline interesting with well-rounded characters that drive the plot at a rapid pace. There are multiple threads to this tale and Stephanie St. Klaire is masterful as she weaves these threads into a winning romantic suspense. 5 stars!
Great conclusion to Cane and Charlie's story in part 1. Serial killer , cult uprising, murder, and my favorite Brothers Keepers ! Stephanie St Klaire takes us on another crazy journey from beginning to end , but finally the answers we've been waiting for ! But the best part, is we start meeting our next group of Keepers ! Can't wait for more !
Close Encounter Part 2 picks up from where Close Encounter Part 1 left off. It is the continuation of Cane and Charlie trying to figure out who is after both of them. With a target on both of their backs along with the rest of the O'Reilly family they race against the clock to find out who is after them, is it Anson Deveraux or is someone else? There are many twists and turns that will leave you trying to guess who it is. Ms. St. Klaire definitely out did herself with this book.
Ms. St. Klaire has become a master at sexy romantic & at times, terrifying suspense stories. Some of her characters are members of a high class security team called Brothers Keepers. They protect people from the worst dangers & do it successfully. This story is the continuation of Part 1. Cane is a member of that team. He’s protecting the only surviving victim of a gruesome serial killer. This story kept me on the edge of my seat. You knew they were going to be in tense situations but you had no idea how they were going to get out of them. Smart, terrifying serial killer vs. sexy, savvy Cane. It was witty. It was sexy. It was scary!!
WOOZA!! Heart pounding, edge of your seat suspense is what Ms. St. Klaire delivers in this amazing story. I got lost in this story as I was reading and that’s my favorite part of reading, the escapism factor. Cane and Charlie rise again and this time they get their man/woman. Eddie and Skye showing up again was a bonus. If you’ve read Part 1 you are REALLY going to want to complete the story with part 2. If you haven’t read either and your a romantic suspense fan, you don’t want to miss this fantastic story.
So it’s taken me a couple of days to process how this book affected me. Stephanie St Klaire has an ability to pull me in to a world where up is down and right is left. There are so many twists and turns that I couldn’t find my way back if I tried. I know that sounds bad but it’s oh so good. Her Keepers series is looking like I’m going to want to become a spy and join them. Charlie and Cane have their conclusion in this second part. I loved them both. Charlie is so much stronger than she gives herself credit for and Cane? Swoon-city!! He is understanding and patient, hot and sexy, protective and an all around perfect book boyfriend. Thank you Ms St Klaire for putting your characters on the written page to share with all of us.
St. Klaire is as diabolical as some of her twisted characters. If I was her husband I would not sleep at night for fear of what was running through her mind. Close Encounter, Part 2 was as arresting as Part 1. It was fast paced, the "family" managed to be hysterical even while trying to deal with a maniac who is after at least two of them, if not all. St. Klaire always throws in enough of the right kind of love to keep your heart invested in the book even as you feel the terror that the characters are experiencing. The book is also full of big, hunky guys who would do anything for their women and aren't afraid to show it. It's a win/win all the way around. I finished it WAY too quickly. I give it a rousing 5 Stars! I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
The gripping second part of this story sees the keepers chasing shadows to find out if Anson Deveraux survived the explosion that they thought killed him. With bodies mounting Cane and Charlie must find a way to unmask who is behind the killings, while trying to stay safe. This is an exciting, suspenseful, romantic, edge of your seat story that will keeping you guessing to the very end.
Is Anson Devereaux dead or alive ? This is the question everyone is asking as they try to make sense of blood bath happening around them. We meet Charlie and Cane once again in this exciting, romantic, suspenseful and edge of the seat mystery. As emotions grow so does the risk, and the author is an expert at keeping us guessing. A superb read that left me anxious for more.
Part two takes up where the first book left off. Now that Cane and Charlie are back in Portland, they feel safe for the first time in a while. Until the murders begin and they all point to Anson Deveraux who died - or did he. Part two is as intense as part one and just as good with all the characters back, including Eddie and Skye. Stephanie always writes with suspense and lots of romance into her books, the plots always good and she gives us twists and surprises throughout the book.
Cane and Charlie are in hiding after Vegas but they think they have been found. As more killings are happening. Knowing she is still in danger they do everything they can to protect her and hope I finally take Anson down for good Gotta love The Keepees
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Oh My Word!!!!!! I thought part one was full of suspense and intrigue, and it was, but part two blew it into the Las Vegas desert. Close Encounter, Part 2 will have you silenced in shock and awe. I DID NOT SEE IT COMING!!!!!
Charlie and Cane have fled Las Vegas for the safest place he can think of, Watermark Tower. Just knowing where they were fleeing at the end of part one has had my brain on overdrive thinking of what would be happening. My imagination is no where near as colorful, evil, or extreme as the author's.
Close Encounter, Part 2 is full of suspense. Even the brothers are going nuts trying to figure out what is going on. Mystery surrounds the status of Anson. The author would long give me enough to keep me wondering and dying to know what the heck was going on.
The one thing I did know was Charlie was still in trouble. Portland was in trouble. The Keepers need to keep alert or all will be lost.
This second part to the Close Encounters series by author Stephanie St. Klaire is a must read! She is the master at writing romantic suspense…as evidenced by this book and series!
Cane and Charlie’s story had me at the edge of my seat and up way past my bedtime! I am still trying to comprehend how she wrote such incredible twists and turns (she totally stunned me!) and kept me on the edge of my seat…at the same time had me swooning and in love with the O’Reilly family and the Brother’s Keeper “family”. They protect those who need protecting...
“You like the idea of me, fixing me, protecting me, but in the end, when the crazy comes to a halt, what will be left? This…this right here. A broken girl with a tragic past that broke her heart and crushed her soul until she had nothing left to give.”
You have to read book 1 in this duet/series before indulging in this second part…so go do that and come back and dive in…you will definitely not regret it!!! 5 suspenseful stars!
This book is one heart stopping twist after another!
Charlie and Cane thought they had left their troubles in Los Vegas but suddenly new complications pop up from an old threat. With Charlie clearly a target the Keepers band together once again to not only save her but themselves from a psychopath who will stop at nothing. There is plenty of steam as Cane and Charlie try to navigate their foundling relationship during this time.
I loved this conclusion to the Close Encounters series!
This is a heart pounding, action packed and thrill inducing read is both quick and highly entertaining. Loved every one of the exciting twists and emotional turns on this roller-coaster adventure.
In Close Encounter Part 1, we meet Charlotte (Charlie) Adams and Cane O’Reilly. Charlie is the one person who escaped Anson Deveraux, a serial killer and a rapist. He’s an intelligent criminal, and he’s a very wealthy man, so he has been able to elude justice for a while. Part 1 ends with the capture of Devereaux and an explosion involving the truck transporting him. It’s assumed that he is dead because no one could have survived that explosion. Part 2 picks up in Portland, where it turns out that Devereaux has a fan club, and there seems to be multiple people following in his footsteps with murder and mayhem all across the country, but many of them are searching for Cane and Charlie in Portland. There also happens to be a bounty on the heads of both Cane and Charlie, and that means the entire O’Reilly clan is in danger.
This book is incredibly tense! It is a fast-paced study in trying to outthink a criminal mastermind who seems to always be a step or two ahead. The O’Reilly family has resources and intelligence as well, and they do a remarkable job of figuring things out. Do not start this book right before bed, as you will not be able to put it down! The writing is tight, and every scene advances the story toward the conclusion. The conclusion was a surprise, to say the least. This reader did not see that ending coming at all! Nevertheless, this is a well-written story with a lot of action, a few tension breakdowns, and two strong protagonists. The family connections are strong, and that only adds to the reader’s enjoyment of this story.
This is part two in The Keeper's series and it continues Cane and Charlie's story. Cane and Charlie are now in Portland staying at the Keeper's tower so that they have protection but the Keeper's keep happening in the same way that Anson Deveraux did to all his victims including Charlie and now Charlie is convinced that Anson is still alive and didn't die in the admired vehicle attack in Vegas and Charlie knows that he will never give up until trying to get her and finish what he started as she was the only person that got away and he wants her dead . Cane is desperate to try and end all the killings that have started all over the place because Charlie will not have a normal life until they can find the person responsible but until then he will keep her safe and protect her as he is in love with her and can't loose her now. What will happen next is Anson alive or is there a copycat on the loose killing people. There are many twists and turns along the way that I couldn't put this book down as I had to see what would happen next and omg I was definitely not disappointed with the outcome. Stephanie St Klaire is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention from the first page to the last and her books are so addictive. I definitely recommend you read this book, series and other books by her and you will definitely not be disappointed.
This is another edge of your seat read and a continuation of Close Encounter, Part 1.At the beginning of this story there are a string of murders that look exactly like the ones Cane and Charlie left behind in Las Vegas, where Anson Deveraux, the killer was blown up.Now Cane and Charlie are in Portland, at Watermark Tower, the family business and apartments which is the safest place they can be or is it? When the murders start adding up they wonder if it is a copycat or did Anson somehow survive the explosion? The twists, turns and surprises in the story are unbelievable and St Klaire has a way of making you think you know what is going to happen and then throws you off a cliff you didn't see coming. Each story in the Brothers Keepers series just keeps getting better and better with so much emotion and suspense you can't put it down until the end, and then at the end, you feel like you just ran a marathon, rung out and elated at the same time. It is amazing how twisted, heartfelt and suspenseful St Klaire's stories continue to be.I can't wait for the next one.
He's dead. He has to be. The armored car he was riding is was blown to bits. Two of the good guys died. He's dead...or is he?
Charlie and Cane have come back to Portland. They're housed at the Brother's Keeper high rise in Downtown Portland. No one can get to them, right? Anson Deveraux, international fugitive and the man who wants Charlie dead, should have died in the explosion in Las Vegas, but his fingerprints are figuratively all over some recent murders. Is it a copycat? Did he rise from the dead? HOW IS THIS HAPPENING!! Will Cane be able to keep Charlie safe?
What a fabulous follow-up to Close Encounter part 1. So many twists and turns and this series just keeps getting better! I love Stephanie St. Klaire's devious mind. It's a good thing she's an author and uses her thoughts for good!
A quick read with so much action and ultimately, love. I can't wait for more in this series.
Close Encounter Part 2 is a continuation of Close Encounter Part 1. It is highly suggested that you read part 1 prior.
Cane is protecting Charlie (Emily)from a crazy killer who has been stalking her for years. Anson Deveraux is thought to have died in an explosion in Las Vegas. But the murders of women have continued.
Cane and Charlie have been in Portland at Watermark Tower, at the Brother's Keeper headquarters. The Brother's Keeper security team is protecting Emily and trying to document the other killings. This book has so many twists and turns. I really enjoyed reading it. The ending is very unexpected and amazing!! I thought I had it figured out! Nope, Stephanie thows you in a totally different direction!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This novella is a continuation picking up shortly after part one left off. This book was much better than part one in regard to depth of character development, plot complexities, and even the pacing and the compelling nature of the writing were much improved. There were some significant details the author developed in this book that would have substantially improved the nature of part one had they been presented previously. Ideally the author could give part one a rewrite and blend the two parts together with the help of a good editor to re-release it as a nice full length novel of some consequence.
R for language, violence and some explicit sexual content. Themes include torture, murder, serial killings, copycat killers, murder cult, psychological manipulation, mental health.
