Following a humiliating break-up, Brianna returns home to Brisbane with her little dog, feeling like a shadow of her former self. But living with her parents again isn't ideal, and her sister is determined to get her to socialise with their old friends on her first night back. Despite wanting to stay home and wallow, she instead comes face to face with her old high school crush, who is looking even better five years later. Having spent several years working for his father in rural Queensland, Jake wins a luxury apartment back in Brisbane, the city he grew up in and where the friends he loves are all busy getting on with their lives. But when his best friend's little sister, Brianna—the girl he had secretly loved from afar in high school—returns and needs a place to stay, he doesn’t think twice about offering her the apartment under one let him stay whenever he’s in town. After picking up their friendship like no time has passed, being back in each other's lives has them questioning what they really want from life and love while dealing with overprotective friends and family, and begs the question - does friends-with-benefits ever truly work? Set in Brisbane, Australia, The Winning Ticket is the first book in the Circle of Friends series, a series of interconnected stand alone novels following the lives and loves of a group of friends as they navigate through their mid-twenties and thirties, finding love and themselves along the way.
Allison A. Andrews is a wife and mother of one based in Brisbane, Australia.
Having always been an avid reader with an overactive imagination, when she isn't writing, she loves spending time with family and friends, travelling the world, and dreaming of the next story she can tell.
Will Allison A Andrews ever write something I don’t like? I don’t think that’s possible.
I loved this story from her, this is the first book she’s published that wasn’t urban fantasy and it still HITS. There is spice, banter, flirting, a cute dog?! Oh and don’t forget mentions of so many beautiful Australian places.
I loved reading about this big friendship group who still managed to stay connected despite being out of school and moving on with life. It reminded me of those people I grew up with and consider family because our parents went to school together and raised us together. Somehow those people still fit into your life in ways, even though you’ve changed. Allison highlighted that well for me.
Stanthorpe, Childers, never been there. Want to go there right because they’re mentioned in the book and I want to live out my book fantasy of buying a lottery ticket and winning an apartments
Just Jake and Little B 4eva.
I didn’t expect a romance book to have a cliffhanger at the end about one of the main couples but you best believe I will be asking someone to write their book so I can know what happened.
ALSO: from the very bottom of the heart I want to thank Allison for not only giving me the opportunity to read this book, but that she mentioned Brisbane Book Club and myself in the acknowledgements again. I feel like she could write a restaurant menu and I would be down for it. One of my must buy authors and I’ll never stop talking about her.
Allison Andrews’ "The Winning Ticket" offers a refreshing slice of Australian life, grounded in the familiar setting of Brisbane and infused with authentic Aussie charm. The novel invites readers into a world where the local lingo and the essence of true-blue Australian personalities create a vibrant, relatable atmosphere.
The story centers around Jake and Brianna, high school friends whose relationship reignites after years apart. Brianna, grappling with the aftermath of a painful breakup with her controlling ex, returns to Brisbane seeking solace. Her journey to emotional recovery and self-worth is intertwined with her rekindled feelings for Jake. Her sister Morgan's push to reconnect with Jake serves as both a comfort and a complication, highlighting Brianna's internal struggle between longing and self-preservation.
Jake, on the other hand, is rooted in the country, working for his father’s electrical company in Brisbane's outskirts. His long-held affection for Brianna, a secret kept throughout their high school years, surfaces as their paths cross again. The narrative delves into Jake's internal conflict as he tries to reconcile his life in the country with his growing love for Brianna and his strained connections with his old friends. Andrews skillfully portrays Jake’s struggle with balancing his two worlds and the emotional baggage he carries.
"The Winning Ticket" shines through its rich depiction of Australian life and the complex, heartfelt dynamics between its characters. The novel explores themes of love, self-discovery, and the challenges of blending different aspects of one's life. With its genuine characters and poignant storytelling, Andrews delivers a compelling read that resonates with anyone who’s navigated the intricate dance of rekindled romance and personal growth.
I absolutely loved this book! Living near Brisbane myself, it was an added bonus to read a story with locations I'm very familiar with. Bri is incredibly easy to relate to, especially with her anxieties and it's hard not to feel for her. I'm definitely part of the 'We Hate Richard' club! Jake, is incredibly swoon-worthy and easily pictured as a hard working Australian tradie with a heart of gold. The slow burn between the two is *chefs kiss* and their banter and friendship turned to more is what a lot of us I'm sure I've hoped for. I was excited to see that this won't be the last book in this series, I'm looking forward to reading more about this close knit circle of friends.
Wow Wow Wow, I loved this book, if you love friends to lovers than you will love this book. I found it really hard to put down and didn't want it to end. The characters really captivate you and draw you in.
"The Winning Ticket" by Allison A. Andrew is a delightful gem that warmed my heart from start to finish! This first book in a standalone series perfectly blends themes of rekindled high school crushes, overcoming anxiety, and the irresistible charm of a cute pupper. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Brisbane, this friends-to-lovers tale is as engaging as it is heartwarming.
Brianna's journey of rediscovering her inner strength and daring to dream again is inspiring. Her character is relatable, strong, and beautifully written. When Jake wins a luxurious apartment and selflessly offers it to Brianna in her time of need, it sparks a touching and supportive friendship that blossoms into something more. Jake’s introspective journey, questioning his life’s purpose, adds depth and realism to the story.
Being a part of Allison's Street Team was an absolute privilege. The characters are richly developed, making you feel like part of their world. I found myself completely engrossed, unable to put the book down, and didn’t want it to end. The young characters are fantastic, and it was a joy to see their interactions and growth.
Thank you, Allison, for allowing me to be an ARC reader. "The Winning Ticket" is a must-read for anyone who loves a heartfelt, optimistic romance with genuine characters and a lovely setting. Highly recommended!

"DON'T LET THE RIGHT ONE GET AWAY BECAUSE THE WRONG ONE BROKE SOMETHING INSIDE YOU"
I was given an ARC for an honest review and here it is...
I had such a fun read ! After reading dark books for some months, this one was a welcome breath of fresh air. A modern, contemporary story, cute as can be, and a little bit of spice to spice it all up, all the ingredients are there to make you spend a pleasant moment.
This book reminded me so much of the film “The Holiday”, even though the story isn't quite the same. If you're going on vacation this summer, this is clearly a book you need to take in your beach bag. It reads like a piece of candy.
I also liked the fact that, although it's a rather light read (and don't get me wrong, I mean that in the noble sense of the word), it's not superficial. Bri is scarred by her previous relationship and Jake is torn between his heart and his duty. There are some delicate themes that are dealt with, making it an interesting read on a psychological level.
“I know you would never push for more than I’m prepared to give, Jake. And I’m so incredibly grateful for that. I’ve never been with anyone who respected my decisions and desires before, but I know I don’t have to worry about that with you.” Ladies, prepare to swoon over this one.
A phenomenal, fun, heartfelt romance! This was my first best-friend’s sister read and I’m in love with this trope now! The friend group was such a fun group of side characters full of different personalities and relationships, the struggles in the book between divorces, parents, lost loved ones, and post breakup confusion was so raw and real and handled in such a perfect way🥹
I read this book in two sittings and literally couldn’t put it down! I was waking up early reading and staying up late to gobble it down I absolutely ate up the chemistry and sneaking around of MCs and the SPICE! Holy gods!!! Was it hot as ever 🥵 the detail and sneakiness of it had me weak! Absolutely amazing book and 100% recommend! I cannot wait for Kylie’s story and hoping we get more about Annelisa’s situation too👀
"Don't let the right one get away because the wrong one broke something inside you."
This book was incredible in every single way. I had absolutely no idea what to expect when starting this book. Allison has managed to throw in real life problems, but deal with them in such a poetic way that you can't help this story pulling on your heart strings. Considering that friends to lovers is my favourite trope, I shouldn't be surpised that Bri and Jake's love story was absolutely everything. Wholesome. Fun. Inevitable. I cannot wait to follow the other characters within the friendship group as the series goes on.
"You're my happily ever after, and I'll be right there waiting til you figure that out."
4.5🌟 I found myself smiling a lot throughout this book! Everyone needs a Jake Boyd! Secret high school crushes reunite in a friend's to lovers cute contemporary romance. I loved the friend group dynamic and how relatable all the characters were, real life stuff without being forced and pacing was good. I shed some tears and highly recommend listening to 'say you won't let go' during chapter 43! I received an ARC for my honest thoughts here. Thank you Haus of Fables PR
A beautifully written story about learning to believe in your own worth and allowing yourself to take a chance with love. I loved that Jake feel first and loved her harder. I loved how he allowed Bri the space to realise what she wanted and loved her so selflessly. This was a heartwarming story of friendship and love that left me aching at times.
This book was so well done! I loved the anxiety rep! Brianna has a lot to deal with internally after her break up with Dick and it's portrayed really well in this story. I also thought Jake's struggles with where he wanted to live, and why he was struggling in the first place was done super well too! It's clear from the beginning that these two had a great friendship and that they still do, as well as some serious sparks! This is a super fun and quick read and I highly recommend it!
This book was just what I needed to feel young, giddy and in feeling young love. Loving Bri and Jake's story as their friendship deepens as they overcome or sort through baggage.
Eek don’t shoot me but this was the first book of Allison’s iv ever read! I’m not much of a fantasy fan but when I first met Allison at a Brisbane book club meeting and she was telling me about her idea of one day writing a romance series involving ice hockey I said sign me up!…. I’m so glad I did too!
I loved the dynamic between Brianna and Jake it wasn’t a full on can’t keep their hands off each other but they could chill and talk and laugh and act like they had been together for years they are very much a comfort couple! Very mild spice for myself personally but I don’t think this book needed much spice there was a lot more of an emotional connection between these characters rather than a physical.
I also liked how they are a friend group and even with Brianna being gone with who we shall not name (Richard) they still accepted her like no time has passed, I’m hoping to get to know this group of friends much more throughout Allison’s journey through writing Romance! Also I hope to meet many more loveable furry friends!
Love it being Brisbane based too! I’m sitting there reading descriptions and I can actually visualise it cause I know where we are talking haha yes! As someone who works a lot of all the big fancy buildings in Brisbane when reading the description of Jake’s apartment he had won (prize home charities, you know the competition no one knows if anyone ever wins in Australia) in Kangaroo point I even had to message Allison and ask if there was somewhere in particular she had in mind cause my Brian started running a millions miles an hour trying to remember the name of all the apartments iv been too for work that was what she was describing as the description for appartments in that area with spot on (unfortunately I still can’t think of one particularly)
Special mention MADDIE omg I loved Maddie the sassy little Maltese/ shitzu! I adore her being in the story so much she gave me life!
Can’t wait for the rest of the books! Thank you Allison for allowing me to be an ARC reader ever though I’m hopeless and didn’t actually write my review until like a month later 😅 sorry….
"Don't let the right one get away because the wrong one broke something inside you."
I thoroughly enjoyed this Australian story by Allison A. Andrews.
Set primarily in Brisbane, this contemporary romance focuses on Brianna and Jake. Childhood friends who reconnect as adults when Brianna returns to Brisbane after a humilitating end to her 4 year relationship in Sydney.
Jake has just won a Brisbane penthouse apartment in a luxury apartment building in a raffle he entered on a whim when cornered at a shopping centre. He lives 3 hours away in Stanthorpe where he works with his father as an electrician.
Despite being Brianna's sister's best friend, Jake and Brianna have always had a good relationship too, with Brianna and her friends always being included in the older kids lives. They both had a crush on each other during their school years, which everyone knew about, except them.
I enjoyed the banter and spice between these two characters, as well as the side characters. They are a tight-knit group and I think Allison did a fantastic job at showing how as they all get older, their friendships change when they get jobs, get married, or move away.
Jake is such a sweetheart and I love how he eases Brianna's anxieties and gives her space when she needs it. On the other hand, Brianna knows when something is wrong with Jake and has a way of getting him to get things off his chest too.
And let's not forget Maddie, that little fluff ball of a dog.
It's a beautifully written slow burn, friends to lovers story, and I will definitely be reading more of Allison's work after this.
4 ⭐
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Tropes: Friends to lovers, contemporary romance, slow burn, dual POV, housemates, former high school crush, best friends little sister, praise kink
Triggers: Mental health (anxiety), controlling behaviour, grief, death of sibling (specifically suicide in past)
I had the absolute pleasure of reading the ARC for The Winning Tick and when I say I loved it, I truly mean I LOVED! I couldn't put this book down, and the bonus for me was that it was set in Australia. Being from a small country town in Australia myself, the fact that this book partially set in Stanthorpe made it very relatable for me.
Jake never imagined buying tickets in a charity raffle for children with mental illness would see him the winning of a penthouse apartment in Brisbane. However, this is where we pick up his story. Meanwhile, Bri goes through a humiliating and confusing break up with a mentally manipulative ex. Bri finds herself moving back to her home city Brisbane and moving back in with her parents until she is able to get back on her feet. Bri never imagined that she would allow her heart to open again, yet when her high school re-enters her life in a big way, this all changes.
This beautiful story is so easy to read, and so much of it was relateable to me on a personal level. The slow burn, banter, and character development were beautifully written. This is the first book in an interconnected standalone series, and I, for one, can not wait to see where the book takes us. I'm now invested in the friends circle and need to know what comes next!
This was a fun and quick read and I would recommend this book if you are looking for a book with forced proximity, friends to lovers and sister’s best friend tropes.
Set in Brisbane, this is the story of Brianna (Bri) and Jake, who are childhood friends and each other’s secret high-school crush. They reconnect as adults and end up sharing a luxury apartment that Jake won in a lottery.
Jake and Bri were adorable and their chemistry was amazing. As childhood friends, everything was so easy between them, which I really loved. I enjoyed their banter, friendship and the slow burn romance.
Bri’s character was so relatable - her struggles with anxiety, inability to decide if she really likes her job and her love of romance books.
Jake’s a hard-working tradie and the perfect MMC with the golden retriever energy. I liked how understanding , supportive and patient he was with Bri.
There was just the right amount of spice without overshadowing the overall plot. It was nice to read a book based in Australia and I liked the Aussie expressions used. This was my first book by Allison but I’m looking forward to reading Kylie’s story🥹
Thank you so much Allison Andrews and Haus of Fables PR for this ARC copy!
After a humiliating break-up, Brianna returns to Brisbane with her dog, only to reconnect with her high school crush, Jake, who offers her a place to stay, leading them both to question life, love, and whether friends-with-benefits can truly work.
I devoured this book! There's just something about tragic beginnings that I can't resist – I always seem to read faster when things start off sad, eager to see how it all turns around. And let me tell you, once it did, it was almost impossible not to smile while reading. My kids and their dad kept coming in, asking who I was talking to and why I was grinning at my tablet! 😂
I just wish there were more hours in the day to read more books like this.
This book made me want to move to Brisbane and find a group of friends like this because honestly, I adored their dynamic.
There was one part where I was sure a friend was hiding a pregnancy, and I need to continue the series because that mystery never got resolved – instead, a plot twist hit me out of nowhere! 😱
Absolutely loved it and will definitely recommend it to others! ❤️📚
The Winning Ticket was everything I wanted in a feel-good romance and then some. The cinnamon roll MMC had me swooning from the start, I was dubious about him having a J name, but Jake was equal parts sweet and saucy. The emotional vulnerability between Bri, our FMC and him felt so authentic I almost forgot they were fictional.
On the flip side… Richard. Deserved the nickname Dick from page one. No notes.
I clocked the Analise weirdness at the first BBQ, first wondering if she was pregnant and then wondering if she was dying and just didn’t want to incur the Morgan wrath if she stole the limelight - but did not see that subtle bomb at the end… do we get answers?
Now for my slightly controversial take: I could NOT stand Morgan and Chris. Yes, she’s the older sister, but the overbearing energy? Off the charts. Half the time I wondered if Morgan secretly wanted her cake and to eat it too with Jake and Chris. Bridezilla tendencies, paired with a narcissistic-level ability to make herself centre of attention on any given day, made me want to reach through the page and shake her.
But despite the side-character chaos, it was the perfect HEA. Pure charm from start to finish.

Reading a story set in familiar locations near Brisbane was an added delight for me! Allison Andrews perfectly captures the essence of the city, making the setting feel like another character in the book.
Bri is incredibly relatable, especially with her anxieties. It's hard not to feel for her as she navigates the ups and downs of her life.
Jake, on the other hand, is incredibly swoon-worthy. He's easily pictured as a hardworking Australian tradie with a heart of gold. The slow burn between Bri and Jake is just -chef's kiss-. Their banter and friendship turning into something more was just beautiful and heartwarming.
Their sometimes complicated/tough relationships with their families was also very relatable, and made me fall in love with them all the more. This was my first Allison book, and it certainly will not be my last.
Th@nks to: Allison for providing this copy.
**These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.
*Thank you to Haus of Fables & Allison A. Andrews for sending me a digital copy*
If friends to lovers is your favorite trope then you need to get a copy of this book. This is such an easy read. I found myself unable to put it down cause I was so invested in the lives of these characters.
While Bri & Jake haven't seen each other in years their feelings towards haven’t changed since they were teenagers. Bri went through such a horrible breakup and seeing her slowly start to open up and trust Jake was really heartwarming. This goes both ways with Jake being able to share his feelings with Bri about his relationship with his father and his life in Stanthorpe. I love how this group of friends have stayed together through the years and while they kind of hinder Brit & Jake’s relationship they only want to protect them.
This is my first time reading a romance book not set in America and it was nice having the characters speak in a way and use words that were familiar. This book ended on a cliffhanger in relation to a particular couple which I was not expecting. Throughout the book, I thought I knew what was happening but I was wrong. Can’t wait for more books about this group.
Me to myself.. ' I wonder if this author actually Australian or just writing a book based in Australia?'
Allison: " Dylan the apprentice, asks as he takes a sip of Ice Break and shoves a pie in his mouth"
= AUSTRALIAN! You can't fake an Aussie tradie breakfast (of champions)
I loved reading this book as an Australia and really feeling the Aussie nuances scattered throughout. Plus it was an adorable and captivating read with some real character development and vulnerability.
The breakup sounds a little far fetched until you know SEVERAL people that have been dumped this way... maybe its an Australian thing!! I loved the nicknames and the banter between all the characters, I thought the side characters were well balanced as a friend group typically is. I adored Maddie and everyone should read this book and immediately go and adopted a pupper!
"I'd want you, even if you were wearing a paper bag"
"I'm sure you're familiar with foreplay. Otherwise, poor Morgan"
"You're it for me. And I know I'm it for you"
TROPES: Mental Health Rep Housemates Best Friends Former high school crush Cute pupper!!! Emotionally available MMC
PS Next time I'm accosted in the mall to buy charity tickets... I might buy a few just in case!

This story had me smiling from start to finish—truly, everyone deserves a Jake Boyd. What begins as a secret high school crush grows into the sweetest friends-to-lovers contemporary romance. The friend group dynamic was a standout, the characters felt genuinely real, and the pacing flowed beautifully throughout.
At its heart, this is a thoughtfully written story about learning to believe in your own worth and giving yourself permission to take a chance on love.
Bri was incredibly easy to relate to, especially with her anxieties, and it’s impossible not to feel deeply for her. I’m proudly a member of the We Hate Richard club. Jake, on the other hand, was pure swoon—effortlessly imagined as a hardworking Australian tradie with a heart of gold.
I adored that Jake fell first and loved her harder. He gave Bri the space she needed to figure out what she wanted, loving her patiently and selflessly the entire time. This was a heartwarming story of friendship and love that had me aching in the best way.
I’m so excited this isn’t the last book in the series and can’t wait to read more about this close-knit circle of friends.
This book was such a sweet read, and I loved every minute of it. I haven't come across many novels set in familiar parts of Australia, so this was a refreshing change for me.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that I loved and connected with the main characters, Bri and Jake. Their relationship and their friendships with others in their lives were really similar to those you would find outside a novel in Australia. For me, that made this book more enjoyable.
The story itself flows effortlessly between the chapters and is told in a really engaging way through 2 POV’s. If you're into romance, this book delivers exactly what you'd expect. It's mostly adorable, but it does touch on some heavier themes, so be aware of that and check trigger warning.
I'd recommend this to romance fans who are looking for a new setting to fall in love with, and characters to relate to!
Full disclosure: I received an advanced reader copy of this book from Haus of Fables PR in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my goodness!!! Life got in the way and I only managed to sit down today and read TWT and I've just finished and for some ungodly reason I am a blubbering mess off happiness and did a little squeal and I'm so upset it's over because I don't want to let them go. And I just........really don't have the words to describe how much I loved it. I also now have an urge to go for a drive to Stanthorpe because I love the damn place and love it even more now (buts it's way to cold there at the moment). The characters, their interactions, the plot, the setting, it was all such perfection... So yea, that's my blubbering review and I'm so proud of Allison for writing such a wonderful book and I appreciate having the opportunity to read it!
I'll try to come back and write a comprehensive review but right now my mind is churning and I can't write anything worthy enough to sum up my love for this book.
Following a humiliating break-up, Brianna returns home to Brisbane with her little dog, feeling like a shadow of her former self. Having spent several years working for his father in rural Queensland, Jake wins a luxury apartment back in Brisbane, the city he grew up in and where the friends he loves are all busy getting on with their lives.
The Winning Ticket had so many familiar things in it, it could only be described as "Home" for me. It had so many beautiful locations mentioned that I have been to. Everything felt like home.... a bad break up, a best friends little sister high school crush , knowing that Maddie is "real", all came together beautifully to feel relatable. It was great to see the anxiety rep in a book and how well portrayed it was by Allison. I truly loved Jake and Brianna's story.
Tropes: - Friends to lovers - High school crush - Dual POV - Mental health rep
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This book answers the age old question of ‘what if?’ when it comes to past lovers and high school crushes. Bri has a little bit of all of us in her, so wrapped up in a man and her career she’s blindside when the rug gets pulled from underneath her. After travelling states to come home, and reconnecting with her family and high school friends we see Bri come into her own, move in with her old crush and fall in love. Jake’s a winner in more ways than one! He’s sensitive yet masculin, loyal, caring, kind and loveable with his boy next door sexy charm. Yet his best trait is his patience and ability to hold space for those he loves. This book reminds us to not settle, take chances and go after what you want and who you want. Totally worth a read and I highly recommend!

Well, firstly Richard is a total Richard who can just go and eat a bag of Richards!!! Right, now that that is out of the way, the relationship between JJ and Little B that develops in this book, and their whole backstory is just chefs kiss. The Author is very skilled at building tension throughout the book and has done an amazing job with this one. So much so, that even though I am not normally a "real-life", "fluffy" romance reader sped through it in a few hours. I will definitely be continuing with the following books, as the Author has managed to leave enough open-ended story arcs in this book to pique my curiosity enough to continue with he next book. Overall a great story with a great cast of characters. Definitely recommend!
What a pleasant little suprise.!! It's totally out of my normal genre, but with my absolute love of supporting local authors, I really wanted to read Allison s book, and it did NOT disappoint
After being dumped by her rich, controlling boyfriend, Brianna and her lil fluffball furkid Maggie are forced to return home to Brisbane after the epic eviction her ex gave her in Sydney.
Determined not to wallow and re-find herself, Bri reconnects with her friends and family and former crush Jake Boyd, who has just won himself an apartment in Brisbane. Bri is struggling living with her parents, so when Jake offers her to move into the apartments, he has won she takes a chance.. And what develops is a story about second chances of finding your purpose and healing after heartbreak
