Jane has tried her hand at landscape gardening, futon making, teaching basket weaving and soft toy making but only truly loves writing and illustrating children's books. Jane shot to fame with the success of her DAISY picture books, all about an irresistible little duck with big feet. More success followed with EBB AND FLO, whose characters were brought to life on television. Jane, her partner, and her menagerie of rescued pets travel the Mediterranean on an ex-fishing boat - and her adventures have provided the inspiration for many of her books. Most recently Jane has turned her hand to fiction, with the exciting adventures of BERYL GOES WILD and SHIP'S CAT DORIS.

Mousse and Nut were friends and they enjoyed each others company. When one rainy day suddenly turned fine they both declared 'What a wonderful day!' And that was how they were, always on the same wavelength in whatever they did.

They were best friends and everything was wonderful. Then one day, for some reason, they began to disagree on everything. Fr instance, it was too hot for Mousse and too cold for Nut, Mousse moved quickly and Nut said he was fast but Nut moved slowly and Mousse said that he was too slow. And so it went on.

Eventually Mousse told Nut, 'You're not my best friend any more.' Nut replied, 'You're not mine then.' So they decided to go their own ways and parted.

But, unbeknown to each of them, they both were lonely and often thought of each other and the good times they previously had.

Mousse, therefore, went to find Nut and when she did Nut said to her, 'I want to be friends again.' And they were, whether it was sunshine or rain, day or night ...

Cute book about two very different dogs who become friends, until they realise that they can't always do everything together so they stop being friends. Yet not being friends is lonely so they figure out a way they can play together without doing exactly the same thing!
This would be a great book to read with Nursery or Reception children to discuss the intricacies of being a friend and to help with the common arguments over which game to play, etc.

It's a lovely little book about friendship and how bridging the differences between friends can make the bond stronger. Mousse and Nut are best friends, but they don't agree on everything and it's these disagreements that begin to push them apart. It's only in isolation they realize how much they miss one another and how happy the can be together, even when enjoying different things. Jane Simmons doesn't oversimplify the drama that can happen between friends. I've heard the same words spoken between children. This book can be a great teaching tool with some guidance from an adult. Simmons' rich illustrations serve her narrative well, from full-page spreads that showcase the joy Mousse and Nut share to stand-alone images that reinforce their loneliness when they're apart.
