The Senator wanted to know why two dead bodies were in his bed. He did not want anyone else to know. The investigation would be off the books. No files would be generated. No reports would be drafted.
Special Agent Dagny Gray surveyed the scene. The dead man was a stranger, but she knew the woman—an old classmate and nemesis. The woman′s lifeless finger pointed to some letters scrawled in blood on the wall. She would find those letters again and again. They would lead her into darkness.
Jeff Miller grew up in the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio, where Jerry Springer attended his temple and Pete Rose broke his heart. He’s rafted down the Rio Grande with folksinger Butch Hancock, co-created an award-winning mockumentary about table tennis, and performed and written for a public access sketch comedy series. Like many lawyers, the only thing he ever really wanted to do was write. The Bubble Gum Thief is his first book. He lives with his incredible wife, Kate, and their two young sons.
Once again, Jeff Miller has tackled a very significant social and legal issue and made it exciting, realistic, and deftly pointed out the grays between the black and white (neither pun intended). He has a knack for not only diving into important issues, but for realistically exploring interpersonal relationships and the way damaged people relate to each other, while still doing their jobs.
Well done!
I actually live in the area where the novel takes place and appreciated the author's attention to detail - not too much to distract, but enough for locals to know he knows of what he writes.
Dagny is a great creation and while I understand this is the third in a trilogy, I can't help but feel she has more to do. I hope Miller agrees.
The 3rd (and final?) instalment in the Dagny series. A brilliant story with lots of action, detective work, politics, sadness and a truly insightful conclusion that perfectly demonstrates the insidious drug problem without being sanctimonious. Plus the wonderful characters developed well. Plenty of witty and clever paragraphs, sometimes focusing on criminal/police work but also on funny sidelines like coffee and whiteboards. Dagny is just brilliant, so thank you Jeff Miller for creating her.
A book I've waited so long to be released, and it didn't disappoint.
Great twists and turns throughout the story, keeps you guessing to the end, and I really enjoyed the character change/growth across all three books.
Unfortunately, this does feel like the end of the Dagny Gray series but I have all my fingers crossed that another chapter will be written in the future.
I received this book as a birthday present, and it was a very good one. I was excited to get it since I had read the other two books in the series. I think that the story was well written. I enjoyed reading about special agent Dagny Gray and the unit she works in. This book did not disappoint. It had action, emotion, and analysis. Good things for a mystery.
