“Do it. Always do it. Do it enthusiastically, or do it scared, but never show anyone here your fear. The island feeds off it.”
The Darlings never thought they would ever return to Neverland. It was a place that only lived in their nightmares and should remain that way.
Having been brought back against their wishes, they find the island populated with pirates and Fae, but no sign of Peter Pan. Learning the Fae have had free reign of the island for years, they discover their nefarious deeds have leeched over to London and must be stopped at all costs.
The Darlings partner with local pirates and the Natives, only to have the Fae kidnap one of their own. To rescue them, the trio must investigate deeper into the origins of Neverland, and their own histories on the island, before they all reach an untimely fate.
But the further the team delves into the legends and secrets of the island, the more dangerous it becomes, which leads them back to the question...
Emberly Jade, Ma'am what kind of drug did you put in this book. I could not put it down from the moment I picked it up. I have read quite a few Peter Pan retellings, but this by far is one of my absolute favorites. The way your words made me feel like I was in the book was amazing. Your descriptive words gave me all the visuals that made reading this book so much better. I really enjoyed the different POV's written in the book. Thank you for letting me ARC for you. I can't wait for the second book to come out! I know it's going to be amazing! Tick Tock little shad0w till we meet again.
I don't want to give any spoilers away BUT if you are looking for a dark retelling of the Peter Pan story .... THIS IS IT!!!!
As an ARC reader I was able to read this detailed, character developing dripping with all my childhood wonders of what really happened? ... What happened when the Darlings grew up? Did they ever go back? Did Peter and Wendy ever fall in love really? Why was Tink so jealous and what was she saying? What about Tiger Lily and Jon and what ever happens with little Michael?
Throughout these pages are such dark and mysterious intertwinings of so many answers that make you go, "I knew it" or even "ugh I didn't like her then, now I almost hate her, nope I definitely do"
Did NOT disappoint this disney loving inner child turned dark romance reader!!!!! Please advise to read the trigger warnings before entering into this adventure.
Hope you enjoy this book as much as I have ... see you in Neverland ✨️

Review: 5✨
Holly. What. A. Read!! First who doesn’t love a dark Peter Pan retelling!! One of my favourite Disney movies of all time. I was so excited to start this book! Shadow was so well written, once I started it, I dived right in and couldn’t get myself to put it down. (Sorry house chores lol) Emberly Jade, you mastermind. You wrote all the characters so well! And I’m obsessed with this book.
This book follows 4 couples. You heard that right, MULTIPLE POVS!! My absolute favourite way to read a book 😍. We have Peter and Wendy, Jon and Lily, Micheal and Asher and finally Jane and James. Now although the spice wasn’t as spicy as I expected, it was still delicious. And the mouth of the male characters… oof 🥵🥵 I loved how each POV was a different puzzle piece that fit perfectly together in the plot!
I always got jealous bitchy vibes from Tink, I was so pleased to see how well she was written and how happy I was that her bitchy self made it into the book.
The darlings find themselves back in neverland and they must find a way to save their childhood magical home. The magic in Neverland had turned poisonous, and the Fae Queen wants you all dead.. will they be able to save what was once home? And all the people who are living there?
Let me warn you that the cliffhanger was not was I expecting, and now I’m dying waiting for book 2 to be released!
WOW! I don't even think I can put all my thoughts into this review, ha-ha.
I will start by saying definitely read your triggers. Though, for me, the triggers we seldom in the book they could hit you just right. With that, I don't think that this book needed the spice for this to be an amazing book. Spice level was about a 3.5 for me. It definitely wasn't bad and was written well in some scenes but really overall I don't think it would have changed the story if it wasn't in the book.
But man, if you want to hate Tinkerbelle (yes, this is how Emberly spells it), this is the book for you. I found myself getting so angry with her as the book went on. As I have gotten older, I have learned that Tinkerbell was not one of my favorite characters and Emberly definitely sealed that opinion in stone!
This was my first book that I have read that had quite a few POV's, 10 I believe it was. This however made for a very interesting read. To have that many POV's was a great way to fully understand the story. I was worried at first, but it was easy to read through them and I enjoyed it. It made it very entertaining. I also enjoyed that the characters were older. They were in their 20's-40's, which made me enjoy them a bit more.
Ugh, but Emberly... you have me wanting the next book! THAT ENDING!!!!!! WHAT?!?!?!?! I think this will be one that I will be waiting for and always checking on. I NEED BOOK 2!!! Please and Thank You!
If you enjoy a Peter Pan retelling, this is an amazing one to add to your list.
Oh holy Fae! This book was brilliantly amazing. Oh my gosh. I loved it!!!!! Shadow was so beautifully written and crafted, I both couldn’t wait to finish it and wanted it to last longer just so I could savor it. With the Darling children grown, about the same age as myself, Wendy having a daughter around the same age as my eldest child, I could relate to her the most out of the three siblings. I knew her pain, her determination and fire to set the world ablaze and f the consequences for her family. How Emberly Jade wove the characters together expertly, I felt less like casual reader and more like a voyeur almost watching all their lives from behind the scenes. Seeing the characters from Pan that I grew up with, seeing what Neverland had twisted them into once the magic there had turned poisonous, it thrilled me. Tink to me had always been a jealous bitch of the relationship that Peter had with Windy and to see how massively and beautifully unhinged she became with her obsession with them blossomed perfectly in my mind with how I always saw her. I kept trying to figure things out like my brain is wont to do with books and while I could suss a few things, the rest surprised me which is not an easy feat in and of itself. With Shadow being the first book in this series, I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the rest to be written and put out for public consumption just so I could devour them all and satisfy my overly curious mind. Well done, Emberly, well done!
I was lucky to receive this as an ARC & let me say, i really enjoyed this story. A dark Peter Pan retelling? SAY LESS. I’m a sucker for a retelling and this one was awesome! I’ll try to do my review without spoilers! 🫶🏻
This book follows 4 different couples and their POV’s. There are 3 M/F couples and 1 M/M couple. Peter & Wendy, Jon & Lily, Michael & Asher, and Jane & James. There are other characters that are big parts - but those are the main couples in this story!! I loved the different storylines all playing into one giant plot. I loved the plot twists and the different POV’s! The book isn’t super spicy with scenes but the verbiage and the mouths on these male characters? SIGN ME UP FOR MORE. 🥵🤤😍🤩 I truly loved the story as a whole.
Brief synopsis - Peter Pan has disappeared and Neverland is in disarray. The Darlings find themselves back in Neverland as adults after expecting never to return after their childhood. They are trying to help the people who live on the island find Peter and save a dying Neverland! Kinda hard to do when the Fae Queen wants all of you dead, right? RIGHT! Ugh! And the CLIFFHANGER at the end!? Emberly Jade… how can you leave it like that! I’m super excited for book 2!! 🫶🏻🤩
If you are looking for a dark retelling of Peter Pan, this is one for you … just maybe check the content warnings first as this one is a dark one and it definitely made me uncomfortable a little bit at times.
This was such a neat concept for a Peter Pan retelling - Wendy and the boys have grown up and Pan is missing, leaving Neverland even more dangerous and out of control. The book was fast paced so you didn’t get bored and it was easy to follow. It has multiple point of views and the author does a really good job of creating the characters voices, again making it easy to follow. The characters are also well developed and I enjoy that there are back story paragraphs to help support where the character is at now.
This book is also very spicy so if you enjoy a dark spicy book, this is again a great book for you. There are some dark parts and dark subject matter but it all contributed to the story as a whole.
Now the ending … I had to re read it a couple of times and I am still in shock at how the book ended?!?! The ending has me needing a sequel as I need to know what happens to our friends, and foes of Neverland. I do also really appreciate that the author kept to the main story of Neverland, but then added her own flare.
I had the privilege of reading an advanced copy of this book and would like to thank the author, Emberly Jade, for the opportunity! I adore a good retelling and Peter Pan was one of my favorites as a kid, so naturally this sucked me in and it did not disappoint!
~The Darling children are all grown up and forced back into Neverland, only to discover that Peter Pan is gone and the island is under the treacherous reign of the Fae. Intrigue and chaos ensue as they work to unravel the mysteries and save loved ones caught in the Fae Queen’s wicked web. ~ Without spoilers, I will say this did end on quite a cliffhanger that I *sort of* saw coming but still slapped me silly when it happened
Also to note: obviously Peter and Hook have always been the “hunks” but the one character that I NEVER expected rising to said rank, was Michael…😳🥵
*Please be sure to check TW’s before diving in because this a dark and twisted reimagining with extremely sensitive subject matter that some will find disturbing 🖤
This retelling of Peter Pan is unlike any other retelling I’ve read. It has all the characters and the stories you love about Peter Pan with a whole new spin- Wendy has a daughter. The Darlings left Neverland 24 years ago and have not returned. Now as the island reveals it to be slowly dying, the Darlings are drawn back again in hopes to help repair the damage done. Pan has been missing for 24 years, Tinkerbelle is Queen, the island is dying, and the Fae have taken over in a whole new way. This tale is epic, thrilling, sexy, and a whole new adventure. This multiple POV book builds an all encompassing look into the horrors that have become Neverland with one underlying theme- someone has to right the wrongs and restore Neverland.
This book ends in a cliffhanger! Can’t wait to read where the rest of this story goes!

Review: This book was such a beautifully, uniquely dark retelling of Peter Pan. I had the honor of reading this early. Emberly did an amazing job weaving all the characters' POVs, blending them all together to create this wild ride through a once beautiful paradise turned hellscape Neverland. I was extremely excited to see Tiger Lily in this retelling as you don't see such an iconic character like her in these retellings of Peter Pan. Once I got halfway through, I had an extremely hard time putting it down even for work. The ending had me in a chokehold, and once I got there, I was yelling because it was over, and I wanted more. The spice in this book was so on point and so good I loved all the intertwining relationships, James and Jane, Tiger Lily and Jon and Asher and Michael. I can't wait to see what Emberlu has in store for all these beautifully written characters.
Omg you guys this book was so good! I really had no idea what to expect when I started this book, and honestly was confused for a good portion for the beginning. It’s dual POV and there’s several characters, so each time I thought we were getting somewhere, it was switched up and we were thrown into something else. Giving you just enough for you to keep reading, trying to see when all the puzzle pieces were going to start sliding into place. And boy oh boy did things start sliding together, until bam you’re flung right off a cliff. Hopefully book 2 throws us a parachute because that was brutal. This book also has some pretty heavy scenes so read your trigger warnings before hand!! I am so impressed by this story and cannot wait to see where Emberly takes us with this! This is her debut novel and she really hit it out of the park. Go preorder now! It releases October 1st!
If there is one thing that will get my attention, it is a dark retellings of Peter Pan.
I have read plenty of authors' versions of Peter and the Lost Boys of Neverland. However, what Emberly did with Shadow has me screaming from the rooftops on making sure EVERYONE, who's ever loved Peter, reads her version.
The world building and details Emberly surrounds the reader in is breathtakingly beautiful.
Shadows, Fae, Curses, Legends, Pirates, and secrets are the nightmares we were warned about.
I can't wait to see what Emberly does next. She has me addicted and I'll be forever a fan.
Please check trigger warnings before reading. This is a VERY dark retelling and may not be suitable for all readers.
Neverland is not the same. I have read many variations of Peter Pan, but this one is unique. I like how it featured the different Darling children and not just Wendy or Jane.
This book is told through the different Darling's POVs. It is broken out as follows: Wendy, Jon & Lily, Michael & Asher, and Jane & James. This did allow me to get close to each of the characters. While the story has the many POVs, it is easy to follow along. In addition, that each POV does lead to the overall storyline.
As the story progresses, the pacing picks up. By the end you are invested in the story. This is a good thing with that cliffhanger ending!
Can I just say wow? That was an amazing book. I wish I could put 4.5 starts. I am only not putting 5 because the amount of character switching was throwing me off a little bit. It did create suspense though. I just feel like the story was a little jumbled from it. However! The story was amazing. It was dark and I love Neverland stories. I cannot wait to hear more about this story. I will be reading book 2. I will say I should’ve watched the movie again before reading this because I was a little confused remembering some of the parts of Peter Pan, but either way I figured it out and it was sooooo good.
Shadow ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh my gods. First of all, I was lucky enough to be an arc reader for this book but oh my gods it was amazing. This book follows multiple points of view being Wendy, Jon & Lily, Michael & Asher, and Jane & James. A malicious Tinker Bell and Neverland that isn’t the same under her ruling with a missing Peter Pan. Each POV painted a bigger picture of what is going on and a true glance at just how dark Neverland has become. All in all this was a great and unique dark version of Peter Pan and since it ends on a cliffhanger (how could you?) I will be itching for the next book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/2🌶🌶 -Dark Peter Pan Retelling -Fae -MF and MM pairings -Kinks -Takes place in Modern London as well as Neverland
This was so well written I was taken aback and has to slow down to truly enjoy the story. Heavily plot focused. Mild spice. Heavy TWs. There are so many major players in this book I had to start taking notes. There were AHA moments and WTF moments as well as LOL moments. Ends on a massive cliffhanger and I will most definitely be checking out book two.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a very well-written, modern telling of the Neverland story after everyone has grown up. It is dark, it is brutal, but there is so much story to explore. This book comes with a warning at the beginning so you know what you'll be getting into and there were still parts that made me pause. (Well done, girl, well done). Big cliffhanger at the end, too. Where's book 2? If you like your fantasy on the dark side, you won't be disappointed. It's that good.
Wow that got intense and dark. Leaves you on a cliffhanger of OH MY GOD WHAT. and then your just waiting now for the next book. Definitely an interesting twist to Peter pan and Neverland. Having all those characters in the book was amazing, all the different backgrounds and how they ended up connecting. Will definitely be reading the next. I need to know. I loved the other version of Wendy and her brothers. I also need to see what happens to drake because I'm just waiting for him to get his
Oh my effin gods!!!!! The rollercoaster ride I went on…. This was spectacular… one of the best Neverland retells… dark & delicious.. but miss the cliffhanger🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 I was left speechless and craving more.. excellent work🖤
This book was just the best book ever! I was so hooked while reading this book! I couldn't stop reading it. It's a dark Peter pan retelling and I loved everything about it! 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ it's worth to read it!! But read the tiggers first.
I went into this book very unsure, but boy I was pleasantly surprised! I absolutely, 🖤thoroughly🖤 enjoyed it. I love a good Peter Pan retelling, and I loved the dark aspects of it, and how she brought the characters to life. Can't wait for book two! 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2🌶🌶
This is an amazing dark Peter Pan retelling! This is one I couldn't put down. It follows 4 couples giving multiple POVs! The characters in Shadow are so well written you become invested in them and their stories. There are twists and turns, questions answered, and if you already hated Tink from childhood...well buckle up. Emberly, please tell me book 2 is coming soon!
