About the author

Sidney Sheldon (1917-2007) was an American writer who won awards in three careers—a Broadway playwright, a Hollywood TV and movie screenwriter, and a best-selling novelist.

His TV works spanned a twenty-year period during which he created I Dream of Jeannie (1965-70), Hart to Hart (1979-84), and The Patty Duke Show (1963-66), but it was not until after he turned 50 and began writing best-selling novels such as Master of the Game (1982), The Other Side of Midnight (1973) and Rage of Angels (1980) that he became most famous.

Sidney Sheldon’s Naked face was one of my first reads that introduced me to the wonderful world of fast paced thrillers. Authors come and go but few have left behind classic thrillers like Sheldon. It was with great pleasure that I reread my 1996 Harper Collins paperback edition and enjoyed every single line and every single page. The twists and turns with unexpected red herrings make it a completely engrossing read

The downside of having read too much Sidney Sheldon is that you already know what to expect – surprising plot twists. That is why while reading this book I was already making bets with myself as to who the real culprit was. The thing is, Sheldon spoiled the fun for me as he already revealed the perpetrator early on in the story. Or so I thought. Because a few pages before it ends, something turns the story around. But still, the surprise I was preparing myself for wasn’t as that much of a surprise. Just an “oh okay” reaction from me. Nothing mind numbing. Nothing that made me turn to the previous pages so that I can fully grasp what happened.

AND. I couldn’t help comparing it to Rage of Angels, which for me is Sheldon’s best, so far.

Morning, Noon & Night is divided into three parts: Morning, Noon and Night. (Why aren’t you surprised?) And just as one day consists of a morning, a noon, and a night, one day is all you need to finish reading the book. Or less.

A fun read. I liked it. Now, on to something new.

Sidney Sheldon is one of those easy reading writers. You pick-up the book and before you know, you've read have of it.
Gripping, full of plot twists and interesting characters you can't help but like what's in your hand.
I should definitely make a priority to read the other Sheldon books on my shelf.

Me encantó reencontrarme con uno de mis autores favoritos, a pesar de los años sus obras siguen siendo maravillosas y sorprendentes. Tenía más de 20 años sin leerme una de sus novelas, creo que buscaré algunos títulos que aún no hay leído y seguiré. Esta no la había leído y realmente no es de sus mejores (tiene muchas muy muy buenas) pero está muy bien. Logró mantenerme enganchada, tratando de descubrir lo que iba a suceder, teniendo a mis posibles culpables y como siempre termina con un final que me dejó con la boca abierta! Era un genio este señor definitivamente!!! (Ah por cierto ese señor fue el creador de la famosa serie televisiva Mi Bella Genio!)

I will never stop recommending a sidney Sheldon book..
This one was so fun to read, it got me from a terrible reading slump.. even though the plot twists were predictable because Im used to his stories and twist, but I didn’t mind it because The author has this amazing writing style, he knows how to keep you turning the pages.. he knows how to write incredible characters and make you care about them..

শেলডন মানেই আমার কাছে ভিন্ন। শেলডন এর বই আমার কাছে বেজায় সবসময়ই ভালো লাগে। এইটাও তার ব্যাতিক্রম নয়। এই বইটির ভিতর বেশ কয়েকটি টুইস্ট ছিলো। একদম লাস্ট অবধি ছিলো কোন না কোন টুইস্ট। সে হিসাবে আমার বেশ লেগেছে। তাছারা জুলিয়া এর গল্পটা জানার জন্য বইটা আমাকে চুম্বক এর মতো টেনেছে৷ আর লাস্ট এর টুইস্ট তো হা হয়ে গেছি৷ ভালো লেগেছে টাইডার চরিত্রটাকে এর রিজনটা বলব না৷ শেলডন সাহেব এর জাদুকরী লেখায় আবারও মুগ্ধ আমি। সো অভারঅল বেশ ভালো রুদ্ধশ্বাস থ্রিলার বলা যায়৷ এন্ড আমি হ্যাপি। আশাকরি আরো একটা শেলডনের বই দ্রুতই ধরবো।

এই উপন্যাস ধনীদের জীবনযাপন, পারিবারিক বিচ্ছিন্নতা, এবং মনস্তাত্ত্বিক জটিলতার এক বাস্তব প্রতিচ্ছবি। সেলডন দেখান, ধনী হওয়া মানেই সুখী হওয়া নয়। বরং ঐশ্বর্য কখনও কখনও মানবিকতার মৃত্যু ডেকে আনে।

'মর্নিং নুন এন্ড নাইট' এ সমাজের সেই দিকটি তুলে ধরা হয়, যেখানে ব্যক্তি সাফল্যের শিখরে থেকেও ভেতরে ভেঙে পড়ে।


সিডনি সেলডনের 'মর্নিং নুন এন্ড নাইট' উপন্যাসটি একাধারে একটি পারিবারিক নাটক, মনস্তাত্ত্বিক থ্রিলার এবং সামাজিক ব্যঙ্গ। এটি কেবল একটি চিত্তাকর্ষক গল্প নয়, বরং এক আত্মজিজ্ঞাসার দলিল।

What a lot of nasty unpleasant characters. A few of them develop some slightly redeeming characteristics in the course of the book, but the only really nice person from first to last is Julia and she just does not deserve to be thrown in among these others. The first Sidney Sheldon I have read and probably also the last.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Sheldon is arguably one of the biggest names on earth in the writing arena. His first novel, The Naked Face, catapulted him to star status and after that he didn’t have to look back. He was awarded with Tony Award and an Academy Award. He wrote screenplays for numerous motion pictures.

Morning, noon and night is yet another mega soap opera worthy novel, with a twisty and fast paced concoction of international melodrama, set in the world of the super rich, which is full of dreams related to champagne and caviar.

Morning, noon and night is not one of his finest works but it is one of my personal favorites. The narrative and the characters are slightly less lustrous than his more famous creations but I think it was an outstanding work of his. The plot is sharp and detailed. I was entranced by it and so would be any random fan who adores this phenomenally successful author.

PLOT (without spoilers)

When ruthless and promiscuous billionaire Harry Stanford is found drowned after falling off his yacht in Corsica, his three children come together at his estate in Boston. They are Woody, a polo player and drug addict who abuses his wife; Tyler, a gay Chicago judge and Kendall, a fashion designer whose success is tarnished by her dark secret.

The tycoon’s will dictates that his fortune should be distributed among his three children and also his illegitimate child that was borne of his illicit relationship with his children’s governess. This child, who has now grown up, has flown to Boston to meet her half siblings. The girl is called Julia Stanford, the mogul’s love child who was cast off as a baby with her mother, the governess. She is now an executive secretary in Kansas. Julia’s mother, the governess, committed suicide that was prompted by the affair with the patriarch.

Julia becomes an element of suspicion by the dubious Stanfords. She is pulled into the web of deception that engulfs the family and its fortune. The lives of her half siblings who are the other heirs of her father’s fortune are very troubled. Nobody knows if Mr. Stanford was actually murdered or not. She finds an endearing romance in signature Sheldon style.

CHARACTERIZATION

Sheldon is an excellent author. I have relished many of his creations thoroughly. His books have a myriad of characters. This story is no exception and as usual, here the character development is complex and praiseworthy. The characters are really memorable and relatable, thanks to their flaws and imperfections.

Sheldon crafts the figure of a billionaire tycoon, Harry Stanford. He is one of the wealthiest men on the planet. Sheldon shows his greed, ways, aura, and mean streak. His children resent him to say the least. There is an illicit daughter Julia Stanford who is born out of wedlock. There are a bunch of gay people.

Harry Stanford binds the rest of the characters in a very poignant and touching story. I adore the concept of a story revolving around a single character. He dies in the starting of the novel and there is a plethora of other characters who are closely linked to this one central figure of Harry Stanford.

Tyler Stanford, his son, is educated and a judge and yet he is not credible with his own body because he is gay. Then how did he become a judge himself and was allowed to determine justice for others? Instead of condemning and punishing these sorts of people, we are providing them the opportunity to disperse their evil among the innocent people in the society. We keep on chasing rainbows but we don’t deal with their contamination.

Tyler is a repulsive character and he makes me want to throw up because he is so despicable. He keeps the story moving like a huge 180 footer yacht. This immersed me in the buildup of the plot.

I hated the plights of poor Kendall who was constantly blackmailed by an unknown adversary. This book is neither big nor short and at 388 pages long, it is composed of small riveting sections which are intricately and delicately interwoven into a massive blockbuster at breakneck pace.

The villain is always skittering away from the grasp of the reader. We see the game of inheritance take shape as the final showdown slams on our nerves. All the siblings cum heirs are desperate. The odd offspring who is none other than Julia Stanford is unaware that she has a right to claim her father’s vast fortune.

ANALYSIS / VERDICT

There are delicious descriptions of cities, beaches, yachts and jets. I enjoyed the city and the airport pictures and people following other people. It has a little bit of all things in this book. The sentences are short, simple and plain. The book is undoubtedly and definitely well written.

The book employs power writing. If you read it you will understand why its author sold millions of books.

The story is not a tremendous shake but I can guarantee you that it has so many twists and turns that it would be a major crime to reveal too much of the plot in advance. It has thrills like Bourne series which I have not read. There are plays of emotions on every page.

Sheldon is an acclaimed and hugely popular writer and hence a lot is expected from his works. The starting is okay but it is a little boring. The novel picks up pace soon and the ending is really awesome. I have rated it 5 out of 5. If you want some time pass you can read it but also if you are looking for some high octane thrill. The language is extremely simple and hence it won’t cause trouble to beginners.

Some reviewers say that if you are reading Sheldon for the first time they wouldn’t recommend it. But I beg to differ. The ending comes to a maddening showdown which was totally explosive. The story builds up to a crescendo and ends on a major note. It is one of those stories where all the good guys live happily ever after. Sheldon was probably watching one of those sizzling Bollywood movies when he wrote this one. Many people will differ when I say this book possesses the usual bite as his other works.

I think it is one of his best books. Sheldon works draw me in and I am really into reading them. I think the plot was built up to such a level that you just feel like burning through the pages and finishing the book as quickly as you can manage so that you can know the ending and the drama and suspense are finally over.

I was stuck to this book and it took me a several sittings to finish it. I couldn’t keep it down since it was so immersive. The most interesting part was not who killed the tycoon although no one can know the identity of the killer in a Sheldon novel which is what really appeals to me about his books. The killer was very predictable in this case which is rare with Sheldon’s works but that’s okay because everything else was delectable.

I would recommend this book instead of other suspense thrillers. It gives you the creeps and freaks you out. It is overall a brilliant plot and the settings are incredible. The suspense level is just next level. I personally would love it if other people got hold of a copy of this book and read it.

HATRED AND MONEY CRAVINGS OF THE CHARACTERS

The characters evoke strong feelings and so does the moving narration. Hate steals the limelight, thanks to malevolent and calculating characters who are simply obnoxious. There is so much hate that it makes this novel a rattling good memorable read.

You will love to explore the chase of money. You will learn what people do to get their filthy paws on money. Cash is attached to emotional dreams. Everyone craves it. They abandon their heart for the sake of it.

It makes you wonder who you can actually trust in this world. It portrays how shallow the rich and famous are and how they only want money and forget about their very families. The thing that causes all the happenings in this book is really money. It illustrates how too much money can ruin things and family life and make enemies.

The moral of the story is never to trust anyone blindly because those who think are closest to you may actually turn out to be your worst enemies.

The moralities of the characters are very sugar dusted. Yet, as with other Sheldon works, reading this novel is as involuntary as simply breathing.

I’ve read enough Sidney Sheldon novels now to know what to expect. His characters are often clearly good guys or bad guys with not much in between and you can always expect a host of plot twists. This one is no exception.

The story is built around the age-old concept of a rich man dying and his children squabbling over the inheritance. The book opens with Harry Stanford, a cruel multi-billionaire who is on the run from…something. We are introduced to his three adult children, all spoiled brats of one form or another although they have also achieved success on their own. When news of Harry’s death breaks in the news, the three children are happy with their dad’s will which divides his estate equally. All of them will be instant billionaires. However, they also remember their dad cheated on their now deceased mother with the housekeeper resulting in her pregnancy. Will that fourth child emerge from obscurity to claim their inheritance? Of course.

Sidney Sheldon’s writing style using short scenes and time jumps leads to a page-turning read. The twists at every turn keep the plot from being utterly predictable. The narrative keeps it interesting even though the dialog is stilted and not always realistic. The storyline requires a bit of suspension of disbelief but Sidney Sheldon fans will be used to this. Overall, it‘s a fun read.

3. I have read this book or some copy-cat of this.

I am no Sherlock Holmes and usually I am not that good at predicting how/who in mystery novels, even in the very predictable ones. Which leaves me convinced that I have read this before. Even when I could see where the story was heading, it was still a good read.

Morning, Noon and Night by Sidney Sheldon is an easy, quick-read and enjoyable novel filled with intrigue and subterfuge. Having read several novels by Sidney Sheldon, I was looking for and anticipating interesting twists which I have come to expect from this author. I certainly was not disappointed as many curve balls were thrown but I was surprised by the one where I learned that the cruel, wealthy billionaire, Harry Stanford, actually had no money at all. I guess that is what makes Sidney Sheldon such a wonderful storyteller.

The main characters, Tyler, Kendal, Woody and Julia, were all strong, real, believable characters and all were consistent in their own character throughout the entire novel.

My disappointment in the novel, rests with the conversations. In my opinion, I found the conversations stilted, shallow and often unbelievable. Also, my personal preference when reading a novel is to enjoy description and detail which was very sparse in this novel.

Sidney Sheldon created a story that again kept me reading right to the end even though it certainly is not his best work and I definitely will continue to pluck his books from the shelves for a good read.

As always Sydney Sheldon never fails to capture and keep your attention. Yes, in the real world things rarely work out for the better but that's why we read isnt it? The authors method of writing is easily read and the storylines are based on events that happen. In this case a billionaire father who tortured his kids mentally is thought to leave a hefty inheritance. With mental abuse and neglect one was bound to take the bad road.

This is my first Sydney Sheldon novel, I actually picked it up because of the author in order to see for myself if I liked the style. And I did. The story is fast paced, built up in a constant climax with different POVs and secrets in all fronts.

The plot itself was well constructed in a simple way, it's easy to follow and it has revelations that you don't see coming because there are so many of them! You can predict a couple but others are a full on surprise. I liked how characters that seem nice and innocent actually aren't. You can't trust anyone here LOL

It was a good read, entertaining , easy and fast paced, but it didn't blow my mind. 4 stars!

فلاش بگ های زیادی در کتاب دیده میشه و بعضی از جاها رو برخلاف داستان های دیگه سیدنی شلدون میشه بعضی از اتفاقات و حدس زد
البته از نکات مثبت این کتاب مثل دو کتاب دیگه ایی که خوندم این بود که در بعضی قسمت ها، خواننده دچار شوک میشه به خاطر اتفاقاتی که دور از ذهن و نتونسته حدس بزنه
این کتاب هم مثل دو کتاب دیگه ایی که از این نویسنده توانا خوندم صرفا برای وقت گذرانی مناسب و بیشتر جنبه تجاری داره و نمیشه به عنوان یک اثر برتر و به یادموندنی ازش نام برد

Oke, ini perkenalan pertama sama Sidney Sheldon. Suka, jadi kepingin baca yang lain. Saya selalu nyari novel lokal yang bertema romance-keluarga-drama tapi dengan tambahan konflik pembunuhan atau misteri apa gitu, jadi kan bisa seru. Mungkin semacam Maria A. Sardjono, V. Lestari, gitu, ya? eh, Mira W. atau Marga T. juga suka, sih.

My first Sidney Sheldon so all the twists and turns were still a surprise for me. I really enjoyed reading this, I love a good mystery and this one was fun because of the multiple points of view and the subtlety to the clues and characters. Some of the characters fell in a little too nicely as archetypes but I still appreciated the attempt at giving them surprise motivations or a backstory that explained their behavior. I felt like the ending rushed by a little too quickly and I would’ve appreciated a stronger attempt at romance, but overall it was a fun and racing read.

Excellent, as almost all Sidney Sheldon books, only the plot is a bit overdone. Harry Stanford is meaner than mean and Tyler is more corrupt than a judge could possibly be.
