What on earth is happening to television news? A corrupt manager trying to steal money... a big-name correspondent lying her way into serious trouble in a conflict zone... and a newsroom where love, lust, and plain stupidity sets the daily agenda? We Interrupt Our Programming... is a comical drama offering the reader a candid look at some of the quirky things that might take place behind the scenes. It's a chance to meet some fascinating and familiar-sounding characters that inhabit the often dysfunctional, but always highly-influential, world of global media. From the hazards of live, breaking news stories, to the challenges faced by tough, global correspondents on the front-line, We Interrupt Our Programming... puts a new perspective on the kind of people we watch every day from the comfort of our television sets.It is the first venture into fiction for Riz Khan who knows the news industry inside-out, as an internationally-renowned television broadcaster who helped set-up and shape the world's three leading news networks - BBC World, CNN International and Al Jazeera English. Rizwan "Riz" Khan (Urdu: ريز خان; born April 1962) is a British television news reporter and interviewer.
From 2006 until April 2011 he hosted his own eponymous television show on Al Jazeera English. He first rose to prominence while working for the BBC and CNN.
Riz Khan is a former CNN and Al Jazeera news anchor and host. I think anyone who has worked in the TV news business will find this to be a fascinating read, as they discover fictional counterparts to people, admirable and otherwise, whom they encounted on the job. But even readers outside the media business will find this to be a compelling piece of satire.
