Callie and the Gull’s Nest are back in the spotlight when a high-profile guest books a room at the bed-and-breakfast. When the man doesn’t show up for his reservation, Callie thinks it was too good to be true. Everyone is shocked when his body washes up in a dinghy the next morning. Once she gets past her assumptions that everyone liked the man, it becomes clear that more than one person might’ve wanted the business mogul dead. Even though Callie trusts her adoptive father to figure out the mystery, she can’t resist using her ghostly contacts to help him narrow the suspect pool.
When Callie gets the call dreaded by anyone in a relationship with an officer of the law, she drops everything to go to the hospital in the neighboring city of Alderbrook. But time in a new city helps her see details about the murder in a different light, and Callie finds herself pulled back into the investigation. Will her involvement be enough to catch the killer before they slip away for good?
Eryn Scott is the author of heartwarming cozy mysteries. Her novels feature close friendships and strong families because those are the most important things in her life -- a little humor doesn't hurt either.
She calls the Pacific Northwest home and doesn't plan on changing that anytime soon. Eryn loves to hike, horseback ride, knit, ski, and read. She believes musicals are the greatest thing since lattes, even though she's not particularly good at singing or dancing -- hey, a girl can dream, right?
Her first cozy mystery series, Pepper Brooks, is based on some of the greats in classic literature. Each book features a different author from Shakespeare to Austen. Eryn's newest series is set in a little town called Stoneybrook. The Stoneybrook Mysteries follow local jam-maker Hadley James as she solves mysteries in her town's year-round farmers market. From deceased knitters to sabotaged florists, these crafty citizens keep Hadley and her twin brother, a deputy sheriff, on their toes. Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries are great for readers who love a hint of paranormal with their mysteries. These books feature a tiny town tucked between craggy coastline and rocky shores with quirky characters of both the living and non-living variety. Look for new releases from all three of these series in 2022 as well as Eryn Scott's new cozy series.

Callie is super excited to be having a famous guest and hopes that if he likes his stay at her B&B then she’ll generate some more upscale clients. Hopes are dashed when she thinks first he just bailed but then finds he’s turned up dead. Her passing interest in sleuthing takes a backseat when tragedy strikes and her focus shifts to family. While they gather and comfort each other and wait will they be able to find the solution to the mysterious murder? This is definitely a book two of a trilogy. There’s a mystery for sure but it takes a huge backseat to the family situation. I don’t say that in a bad way because I really did enjoy the book. It’s just if you’re expecting the investigation to be the forefront that’s not the case. That being said the plot was clever and the characters are quirky and delightful. There is a great sadness but it’s written incredibly well that it completely falls under the cozy umbrella. I’m very intrigued to see how this trio wraps up in book three!.

In this second novella of the Pebble Cove Bed and Breakfast Mystery series, Callie is waiting on a famous guest to arrive. He doesn’t show up, and she finds out the reason is that he’s been murdered! Poor Callie can’t catch a break!
I absolutely love this spinoff and the whole cast of Pebble Cove. It’s like hearing stories about a family friend at this point. I love seeing that relationship between Callie and Chief Clemenson, you can really feel the love between them. Eryn Scott does an amazing job of coming up with these quick, fun, and emotional stories. Her characters feel so real.
I can’t wait to read more!.

I am really enjoying being back in Pebble Cove! I liked Callie in the original series, so it's been fun seeing her solve mysteries this time around. She is smart, observant, and sweet. It was interesting, too, seeing how her relationship with Owen and I am looking forward to when he finds out she has the ability to see ghosts.
The book being a novella meant the mystery didn't take too long to solve, but there are still a couple twists and turns before you find out whodunit.
Even if you haven't read the original Pebble Cove series you can jump in with these novellas. Just be warned it will make you want to go back and read Rosemary and Asher's books too!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
this was more like a police mystery than a cozy mystery. It didn't keep my interest - I kept skipping pages.

Callie and Owen are in a good place after the miscommunication in the last book. While Callie focuses on running the B&B (and helping her adoptive father solve the occasional murder), Owen is working on a task force out of a nearby city. They're solid. They're happy. Things are moving along.
Then a guest misses check in and ends up dead in a dinghy and suddenly Callie's in the middle of things again. Sort of. I mean, she never actually saw said guest since they didn't check in, but she has time on her hands without said guest and she ends up involved whether she actually wants to be or not.
Then Owen gets injured and things go sideways. Suddenly Callie is spending her days in the hospital by his side and that pesky dead-guy problem is percolating in the back of her head. So she does what any self-respecting daughter of a police chief would do and works things out.
A close call for Owen, a little blow up between Callie and her closest ghostly friend, a plot that takes a turn, and lady who is good at following those little clues until they yield something. *thumbs up*

After loving the first novella in the series, I immediately jumped to the second one. As always, the audiobook narrator Jennifer Jill Araya did a great performance. She matched the fun, cheery, uplifting vibe of the story really well.
I’m so glad Olivia the gossip-sucking ghost made another appearance, because she quickly became my favourite side character here. The mystery element was good, the relationship between Callie and Owen progressed nicely, the stakes were relatively higher and I devoured the book in one sitting.
If you’re a fan of cosy mystery, what are you waiting for? Pick this up!

This is book 2, a novella in a new mini-series, and centers around Callie, a B&B owner in the charming seaside town of Pebble Cove. She discovered an expected celebrity guest isn’t going to check in due to mysterious circumstances. She and her sister, Rosemary, along with a friend, Olivia (not exactly a typical friend), work together to solve the mystery. There is also a surprising twist involving Callie’s fiancé. The characters in the book are so fun to meet and the story held my interest. Fans of Ms. Scott’s prior teahouse series will recognize a few beloved characters as well. Although part of a series, this book can be a stand-alone. However, I am sure you will want to read all the books in the mini-series. I enjoy the author’s style of writing and highly recommend An Unexpected Vacancy.

An Unexpected Vacancy is book 2 in A Pebble Cove Bed-and-Breakfast Mystery by Erin Scott. One thing that I really enjoy about this book and series is family and friends. Callie is running the family Bed and Breakfast, Gull's Nest. A high profile man does not show up at the B and B, he shows up in a dinghy dead! Erin Scott writes fantastic mysteries and characters that I enjoy reading about. Callie is a good sleuth who uses Olivia to help even though Olivia is a ghost! I believe that everyone who enjoys cozy mysteries should put An Unexpected Vacancy on their TBR list...you will not be disappointed.

I felt really sorry for Callie being away from Owen who was still working on the special task force in Sun City so I sure hope by the next book, they’ve caught who they’re after and he can come home again. She did visit then Callie and Rosemary did a little sleuthing together in Sun City.
The main mystery of this book was solved, but I get the feeling something else is gonna go down in the next book to wrap up that aspect since this is supposed to be a trilogy. I’m sure it’ll end up just the way we fans are hoping! At least it’s not that long until release day.
Another good mysyery, while Callie is helping to solve it, another incident comes close to her. Good story and wonderful characters. If you like good clean mysteries this is for you. I would recommend this book.

I flew through this novella. This Pebble Cove spinoff mystery had me hooked until the last page!
FMC, Callie, had a ton on her plate in this story, which added a lot of drama and emotion to the book. I’m really enjoying getting to know her character more. Additionally, I love getting glimpses of a few of my favorite Pebble Cove characters!
Wonderful short stories that piggy back off the original Pebble Cove Mysteries. An in-depth look at additional characters with a charm of their own, and of course, all the same characters as before.
I'm enjoying return visits to Pebble Cove and seeing things from Callie's perspective. I'm not sure I'm ready to read the last novella as it will end my time in Pebble Cove. But I also want to see it through!
This was face paced, chock full or clues and action. An extremely good story and you will be getting closer to the characters as the book develops. I loved it!.
5 star review of An Unexpected Vacancy (Pebble Cove Bed & Breakfast Mysteries #2) Audio review:
I was excited when I heard Eryn Scott had a new series coming out. Both the author Eryn Scott and narrator Jennifer Jill Araya kept me invested from the start. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Jennifer Jill Araya did a fabulous job and certainly kept me captivated. This was a a book filled with secrets and lies. The intrigue and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat as I listened to this story. There were a few twists, turns and surprises in Unexpected Vacancy as Callie Norris follows the clues and I have to say that I was taken by surprise on a couple of occasions.
