'Betrayal is best served hot with a side of your Dad’s best friend.'
I had everything. A bright future, a Dad who loved me and his three best friends who would do anything for me. One more than the others.
But then I lost it all. Everyone who loved me, left me. Med student turned stripper. Betrayed by the ones I loved the most.
All it took was one evening, one moment, and my life was spun on its axis. My Dad’s best friend found out my darkest secret, but instead of running to my Dad, he protected me. Promising that he wouldn’t leave my side.
A forbidden affair burned like a match to gasoline. Until it didn’t.
The secrets eventually spilled, and truths finally seeped out of us whether we wanted them to or not. Everything I had spent months building came crumbling down around me.
Betrayal lashed against my skin, and no matter how much I tried to protect myself, I couldn’t.
Ashlee Rose lives in the UK where she resides with her husband, three children and her crazy cockapoo.
When Ashlee isn't being a stay at home mum and housewife, she is losing herself in her steamy romance novels and swoon worthy alphas.
Ashlee has always been an avid reader of romance and lives in a fantasy world.
In 2018, she decided to try her hand at writing, a few months later Something New was published. After vowing to finish the Entwined In You series and leaving it at that, Ashlee got the itch to continue and has many more romance novels up her sleeve.
Ashlee is on all social media platforms so go over and give her a follow.
This was one of the worst books I’ve ever read. The beginning was so unnecessarily chaotic and fast. They got together way too quickly and everything was rushed, it was honestly annoying and so poorly written. I felt like I was being yanked from one side to the other by how often we went over the same thing. It was so exhausting. the end was absolutely. So you’re telling me she got kidnapped, abused rape tortured. Just for the babies not to make it? Like literally nothing good came out of that situation. Her babies literally died. Even if the were wolves babies there went that whole thing Keaton loving them regardless. And after one chapter she was already having sex? WTF?!!!! Honestly the author made the worst choices for the FMC for no good reason. She clearly hated her cause there was no reason for everything that happened. Also there was like 0 growth throughout the entire book. I wish I could take my money back because seriously it was so awful. So awful I might delete of my kindle cause simply having it is pissing me. If I could give it negative stars I would. I wouldn’t even recommend this to someone I hate.
I'm lost for words. This book is everything and more. Keaton and Ari are and will be forever perfect for eachother. Their journey wasn't easy and let me tell you it was a heartbreaking bumpy ride. The love and care they had was simply stunning to read. I adore this world that Ash has created. As usual there were points where I was a sobbing and snotting mess but also a few gasps. My heart is now fixed! A perfect story in a perfect world. Congratulations Ashlee on another amazing book! Looking forward to what's coming next!
The Betrayal by Ashlee Rose is the third book in the Illicit Love series and while it is an interconnected standalone, it is highly recommended you read the following from Ashlee before diving into this one as it features some characters from previous books: Something Worth Stealing, (Dex & Sage), Dear Heart, You Screwed Me (Killian & Reese), The Resentment (Kaleb & Connie), The Loathing (Titus & Amora) and just for fun Savage Love (Xavier & Royal).
This instalment follows the story of Keaton Mills and Arizona King, he’s 47 and she’s 21 and they’ve been living together in his home for a while as he also happens to be best friends with her dad and took Ari in when her dad was on a job and soon sparks were flying. Forced proximity and a drunken night of truths being spilled made this relationship go from wanting and longing to hot and heavy and then the continuous broken promises of it always being the last time.
Arizona is an aspiring doctor, but when she failed her intern exams, pride made her not want to work beneath the peers she used to be ahead of so she turned to working in a lucrative gentlemans club and also as a cam girl. She had one specific client who was always around and when they meet in person for the first time as he requested her privately from the club she worked it, it was a horrendous experience, resulting in her confiding in Keaton later that night but only in part with the help of Tequila. Having been keeping her own secrets from her friends and family and Keaton being the only one who knows about her job, she tries to push on and soon finds the handsome Mr Mills keeping watch on her as she works.
Keaton works in the accounts department of the company owned by him, his brother, and their two friends (Kaleb, Titus and Nate) and while they are looking for the man who is after Titus and Amora he is also struggling to hide his relationship and growing feelings and affection for his best friends daughter. He is not a weak man by any means but for Arizona? He will get on his knees and crawl for her. All she has to do is command it. He is torn between his loyalty to his friend and his love for Arizona and we can see the struggle he faces as he tries to play mediator between the two.
Their relationship has a lot of twists and turns and there is also the fallout of when all their friends and family find out about them being together and as these characters try and work through their feelings together, there is a common enemy lurking in the shadows ready to strike and we see the feelings of betrayal still simmering but reuniting to take down the one person aiming at them helps heal some of the fractured relationships.
The story contains and accidental pregnancy, a vegas wedding and is packed full of action and emotion. There are some very harrowing scenes depicted and implied and I would say this is one of the darker books in the series so always check triggers. That being said, the dark element of this book is very fitting to the story and characters and really pulls together the subplot that has been running throughout the previous three books.
The way Ashlee writes her characters and conveys their emotions and feelings you feel that you are living through it with them and this book made me feel every single emotion. I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I got happy and to me a good book is one that enables you to get out of your head and feel what the characters are feeling and everything Ashlee writes, does this for me. Oh and if that wasn’t enough? The chemistry between Keaton and Arizona is absolutely sizzling from the pages and I struggled to put the book down.
All in all, one if my fave reads of the year and I cannot recommend it enough.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Honestly, I have no words.. I have been waiting for Keaton and Ari since we got snippets of them in Titus and Amora’s book and let me tell you it definitely did not disappoint🫶🏼
Keeping this book spoiler free this book is an absolute emotional rollercoaster. I was laughing, swooning and crying all in one. I’d definitely say Ashlee was sick of me constantly messaging 😂. It was also refreshing to see characters from other books such as Sage and Dex my absolutely FAVOURITES btw, and seeing how these two bonded so well with Ari oh my heart😭
Keaton and Ari’s chemistry was absolutely off the charts and they were just honestly explosive together.✨
I would most definitely recommend reading the loathing before going into the betrayal as a certain character/villain does overlap into this book.
Thank you so much to Ashlee and Robyn who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭
This story was very intense! I picked up some clues for this book from the previous, but my goodness I wasn't expecting so much of what played out! Amazingly written! I am downloading the next one!
I’m still not over the emotional torment this book put me through. The writing in this is incredible and boy did I cry in places! This book has a lot of spice and plenty of angst. This is dad’s best friend, age gap, accidental pregnancy and so much more. Make sure to check trigger warnings and have tissues on hand!
WOW!!!!!! What an emotional journey this book was! 🥹🥹
The drama, the laughs, the bants, the spice and all the feels. And let’s not forget all the reunions of Ashlee’s characters! This book ticks all the spots!!!
This is the third book in The Illicit Love Series and I would say that this one is my favourite!
The Betrayal is an age gap - accidental pregnancy - best friends daughter romance and this one hits hard!!
Keaton Mills, the joker of the four friends/work colleagues, finds himself giving into temptation in the form of his best friends daughter, Arizona. Arizona’s path doesn’t take her where she dreamed of going but after one horrible night she finds safety and solace with her dad’s best mate.
Their relationship isn’t an easy one and is hit with lots of bumps in the roads especially from Titus but we see their love blossom and how they fight to save what they have. Plus the spice between these two!!!!! Let’s just say chapter 14 ok!!!! These two are perfect together.
Like I say this book does have all the feels, at times I was left feeling sad, angry and heartbroken. This book did leave in pieces and I was crying then smiling at the end of it.
What I also love about this book is that Ashlee has a brilliant way of bringing previous characters into her new stories. Reading Sage and Dex was a great treat and it’s always a blast having the big daddy Xavier around.
I loved this book I would have tried to have read it in one sitting but you know adulting has to happen! 😂
Congratulations Ashlee!! Another fantastic read and I’m soooo exited for what we have coming with Nate, that ending made me want more!!!! Can’t wait 🩷
Keaton and Arizona, our MCs of book 3 in The Illicit Love Series. We met Keaton back in book 1 and we’ve been waiting for the cheeky chaps book since, especially with his laid back attitude and the way he was always there for a good time and not a long time!
But when Keaton agrees to look after his best friend’s 21 year old daughter Arizona, and they share one drunken night, he’s ready for that long time and damn be any consequences.
We loved the way Ashlee kept Keatons cocky behaviour throughout the book with a side dish of his sweet and caring side. The character development was spot on. Our poor Arizona, she went through a lot before she came out on top, she was young and scared and we definitely had a few tears with her. Although we also could have given her a shake a few times!
The thing you are guaranteed with an Ashlee Rose book is spice. This author knows how to make you blush. We always remember to have a spare pair of knickers with us and boy did we need them, GIRLLLLL that ice scene 🪭🥵⚠️🔥
This series just keeps getting better. We absolutely loved this instalment, and are definitely ready to find out what secrets Nate is hiding next time.
We will always recommend Ashlee’s books because she’s such an amazing writer, but she’s also such a lovely person.
We are always so grateful for the chance to ARC read and cannot thank Ashlee enough.
We do recommend to start with Savage Love followed by Dear Heart You Screwed Me, as you get a background of the characters before starting these.
I received an advance reader copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is the 3rd book in the 𝘐𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘵 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴, but can be read as a standalone.
This is my first book by Ashlee Rose, and I’m now a fan. This was such a good example of the dad’s best friend trope 😮💨 I love the suspense and the feeling of secrecy that comes along with it. This books had me feeling every emotion, and I’m here for it. Recommend, but make sure to check trigger warnings.

Betrayal lashed against my skin, and no matter how much I tried to protect myself, I couldn’t.
This is book 3 in the Illicit Love series and while I haven’t read book 1 or 2 I didn’t feel lost or like I missed anything by not reading them. I will say it might have helped me keep up with who everyone was though as at the start of the book it took my brain several chapters to get everyone straight 😂
I also want to tell you the I almost … yes, ALMOST DNFd this book. Why you ask?? Because I wanted to jump into the book and seriously shake the shit out of the FMC Arizona. She was just rubbing me the wrong way and she couldn’t get out of her head. BUT I kept reading because I love Ashlee’s books and fuck I’m so glad that I did. Once I got over that little hump, I think around the 35% mark I was all in. So if you read this & Arizona is pissing you off too I beg you to keep reading cause you’ll change your mind about her.
Keaton was seriously the perfect mix of cocky, sexy, caring, and loyal. Oh and the ice cube scene, so freaking HOT!! This man was all in no matter the consequences, even if that meant losing his best friend (Arizona’s dad). I don’t want to say too much and give anything away because there is so much going on through the entire book. I will say the last 15% had me on the edge of my seat freaking the fuck out!! Oh and did I mention there was tears, because there was.
“I know I am going to have to face Titus, I can’t run and hide. I am a forty-seven-year-old man and I’m not going to lie, I am shitting myself just a little bit.” -Keaton
This was a story that was needed from Ashlee. As soon as the hints of what was happening back in New York while Titus was in the UK started coming in, my selfish heart was antsy to get my hands on this.
These two getting together is kind of the best. Him showing up at her job, her side hustle, down to the thing with Sage? I am here for it!!!
Vegas? Really? Hehe. Besides Prick’s, because I hate those restaurants, the trip sounded like a blast. The only thing missing was a Cirque Du Sole show. The food, crazy hours, and drunken debauchery are all things that would for sure happen in Vegas. Love this was a core memory day (trip) for them.
Arizona’s attitude was awful towards Titus. Not saying she didn’t have valid reasons to feel the way she did. The thing is, throwing a temper tantrum because you won’t let someone explain their side while you are being just as secretive (more than really) is not a good look. Girl, pull up your big girl crotchless panties and handle your business.
Oh Keaton. You sweet, unsuspecting man. Truth, I may love him more than Kaleb. I said what I said!!
Ok this book….. I think it has to be my favourite of the series 🔥 This was an emotional rollercoaster and wasn’t an easy ride for Keaton and Arizona or myself for that matter I was an emotional wreck at times!
I love Keaton and Arizona together the angst, the chemistry and spice is just off the charts!!! Keaton is a known playboy to his friends so you can imagine the fallout of getting involved with one of his best friends daughter but when I say this man is such a softie for Arizona it’s an understatement he loves her so hard and their connection is undeniable! Even tho it was so emotional I loved that about it because it was real navigating their relationship, trying to mend their relationships with Titus over their own relationship. I love the banter in this friend group and all the friendships it’s so good. But boy does this book get heavy so this is your warning 😂 the twist that comes is extremely raw and emotional so have your tissues ready.
There is so much laughter, banter, tears, joy and love in this story! And the spice well damn 🔥🔥🔥 We all love when the guy say “crawl to me” but when I tell you I was feral for Arizona saying it to Keaton!! That scene was everything 🥵
Ashlee you always blow me away with your writing, stories and not forgetting the spice because that is always top tier! But you out did yourself with this one it owns place in my heart and it’s a story that will stick with me!
*** side note we get some of our OG’s in this Xavier and Royal and my love Dex and Sage I absolutely loved getting to see them in this!
> you do need to read the other books in the series first! And please check trigger warnings first.
What to expect * Dads best friend * Age Gap * Married in vegas * Accidental pregnancy * Spice * Banter * Trauma
👩💻📖✨ This was my first book in the series, which made the initial couple of chapters a little 😕 confusing as I tried to get my bearings. But the more I delved into the story, the more utterly invested I became. 💯 I was hooked!
⁉️ I do wish there had been a clearer understanding or build-up to the moment when Keaton's feelings for Ari shifted from platonic to romantic, because that explosive kiss seemed to come a bit 💋🌩️ out of nowhere. Not that I'm complaining about him finally making a move - oh no, the sizzling series of steamy, dynamic encounters that unfolded after that night were absolutely 🔥🥵🔥awesome🔥🥵🔥.
💔 This book put my emotions through the wringer in the best way possible. It will take me some time to recover from the emotional damage and turmoil, and I love that feeling of being gutted by a story. 😍 The author crafted the plot and characters exquisitely, rounding out this book perfectly while also whetting my appetite for what's to come by weaving the setup for the next installment even better. I simply can't wait to devour the next one! 👏📚
“Betrayal was best served hot with a side of your dad’s best friend.” • • • Devoured this book in a day!!! I was hooked from the beginning and intrigued with Arizona and her plan to get revenge on her father through his best friend. I love the forbidden element and the attraction between Arizona and Keaton. It makes for a very interesting story when they finally give in to temptation. Add an accidental pregnancy and a marriage in Vegas well let’s just say that life definitely gets interesting for them both.
Aside from these facts we also have the underlying threat that keeps our found family on their toes. It keeps you sucked in with the hope that we’ll soon see this issue resolved. This book made me mad, sad, happy, shocked and overall excited about where it was headed.
Keaton is a fiercely loyal and sweet MMC who takes into consideration Arizonas feelings and respects her 100 percent. Arizona is a strong headed and sweet FMC who needs a little convincing that she won’t be alone. I cannot wait for the next book…I’m excited to read Nate’s story!
💓Age gap 💓Dad’s best friend 💓Forced proximity 💓Cinnamon roll hero 💓Accidental pregnancy
What a roller coaster this book was!!! In the best way. Absolutely adored Keaton and Arizona!!! Their relationship was amazing and developed in such a good way in this book! Ashlee’s writing was on point in this book and she made it a masterpiece as all her other books in this series!
Also the way they grew as human beings in this book! And how they handled the tough times they went through in this book! Was everything🩷Really enjoyed them together and their chemistry just shine through the pages💕 Keaton was always so supportive towards Ari and all he said and did for her melted my heart🥰 Arizona what a women! Just love how Ashlee always writes strong women!!!
The last 15% made me feel so much emotions and 100% made this book a 4.75⭐️ instead of 4.5⭐️! The reason why isn’t a 5⭐️ is that in the middle it felt like it dragged a little, but not that much😎
Overall an amazing read!!! Completely adore this series and can’t wait for Nate’s book💕💕
I loved the idea of this book I just don’t believe it was executed to its fullest potential unfortunately. It’s not a bad read, it’s just not one I’d pick up again which is why I’m giving it a 3 rating. I will say if you haven’t read the rest of the serious (like me) you should probably do that before reading this book. They are interconnected standalones but I was left confused throughout the story. I still don’t know what the MMC actually does for work. Like are they in the mafia? No idea. I feel like this would have made a better duet. It just felt like so much happened & there wasn’t enough time/space in the book to go into detail on things that seemed important. Things were just swept over leaving me with so many questions!
The last chapter in particular annoyed me. The present time ended so weirdly then it jumps 6 months! The 6 months at the end of the chapter felt more like an epilogue than the actual epilogue did.
Definitely check trigger warning before diving in as there is some sensitive topics.
OH Ashlee. Ma'am.... excuse me... ma'am. I'm not ok. I'm ok, but not ok. The emotions that my heart and head went through reading this book. I feel like I rode both the best and worst rollercoaster of my life.
Keaton has been the jokester in all of these books, the fun loving sassy brat that I absolutely love and to see the caring (slightly obsessive), protector side of him, so full of devotion and love did funny things to my heart for that man. And Arizona. That girl, I am equally proud of who she becomes through the book and pissed AF at all of the crap that she puts everyone, especially Keaton, through because of her own self doubts. I get them, I understand them, still made me yell at the damn book though.
This was an emotional read, the end was hard. There was a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes but they made it in the end, through everything but they had to fight really freaking hard for it.
This book is so good and I would 100% recommend this book and the series, but as always please check trigger warnings before reading. This books does contain some serious topics that may not be for everyone!
Now if you read that and said where can I sign up this book is for you! 🤣❤️ The Betrayal is book 3 of the Illicit Love series, but can definitely be read as a standalone. This was the first book I read in this series and I definitely plan to read more! The plot was intense and had a great mix of romance, drama and mystery. The chemistry between the two main characters, Keaton and Ari, was electric and the spicy! Ashlee really out did herself on this one and I ate up ever moment of it. Thank you Ashlee for my ARC copy I can’t wait to read more!
What to expect * Dads best friend * Age Gap * Married in vegas * Accidental pregnancy * Spice * Banter * Trauma
Usually I love Ashlee’s work. She’s one of my instant download authors, but this one didn’t click for me. I feel like it was very rushed at some parts? I also felt like I really couldn’t get a connection with the MMC and the FMC. They were hot together no doubt, but I feel like it was only sex that they shared a connection.
Arizona really was only 21 and she felt very bit of 21, and every immature at times. Like why was she actively trying not being the with man she loved? Also Titus, her dad, and I understand how upset he can be that she’s with his best friend, but god, he was acting ridiculous and rude and hurtful, it just felt super over done and unnecessary.
I loved seeing other characters from previous stories and I loved all the friendships with the side characters.
I wish I like this book more, but I can’t wait to see what else Ashlee puts out.
ARC Review Honestly, I wish I could give 4.5 stars! This book was a bumpy ride through a vast array of emotions and events. I absolutely love Ashlee Rose books because they’re always a wild ride! I was so pumped that there was a crossover with characters, especially Sage and Dex (who happen to be from my first AR book!). I just really appreciated how all of the characters are interwoven into each story, it takes time and care!
Ari and Keaton’s story was not what I thought it would be, based on the hints and clues from the other books. I love it when I can’t immediately figure it out, and that was definitely the case with The Betrayal. You can’t beat an age-gap, dad’s best friend romance! I definitely recommend this book, but I wish I wouldn’t have read the TW, and instead gone in blind. Regardless, it was chef’s kiss. 🫶🫶
I appreciate the opportunity to read an ARC of this book and I cannot wait to read Nate’s story. I feel like it’s going to be such a glorious mess!
Well, let's start by saying that this book has jumped it's way up to the top spot on my read list. Immediately.
I have no words to formulate how I feel about this book. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE (and that really doesn't come close to describing how much I loved it).
This is absolutely the one. It has stolen my heart and Keaton, well he's got my whole heart.
The way my heart was racing whilst reading this, and truthfully still is. I experienced all of the emotions, I felt every single one the characters were feeling right down to the pit in my stomach.
It is definitely going to take some time to get over this one. The hangover has only just started - I don't know what to do with myself.
This is without a doubt, a must read, but heed of warning, prepare yourself for an absolutely incredible, emotional, wild ride.
Drunk Vegas wedding? Sign me up. 😅 Hold onto your seat because this one is one hell of a ride. The spice was spicing, the punches were punching, the twist and turns will have you fuming, hurting and heartbroken. But what’s a little fun without some reckless behavior though. I will say, I low-key wanted to crawl inside the book and slap a few characters, but all is good. The dad, Titty I mean Titus, needs to get over himself and stop acting like he didn’t do the same thing. 🙄 This is my first accidental pregnancy trope read and I’m not disappointed at all.
Also, this might be the first book in the series that I read and let’s just say I’m hooked! (This is the 3rd book in the series but can be read as a standalone.)
The Betrayal is the third book in the Illicit Love Series, I personally think you do really need to have read the two previous books to have a proper understanding of everything which is happening.
Argh this book!!! I’ve been waiting to read Keaton and Arizona’s story and I wasn’t disappointed, in fact I think it is my favourite so far. The chemistry between these two was everything. 😍
I think I went through every emotion while reading. I was angry, sad, devastated, happy and there heart warming moments too.
One of the things I adore about Ashlee’s books is the crossover between characters from her other books. It was great to read about Sage and Dex and also Killian and Reece.
After that ending I’m so excited to read Nate’s story next.
I’m a sucker for the dad’s best friend or exes dad trope when they are done right. I need the majority of the book to be the push and pull of “this is wrong” and “I can’t help it!” This book didn’t really have much of that. Now I didn’t read the first two, but I figured I’d be okay. The two main characters end up together too quickly for me. And then there is too much going on within their relationship. Again, this is all just my own preference, but I wanted so much more angst than there really was. There was plenty after they initially get together, but ugh, just didn’t hit it for me.
So if you enjoy this author, give this series a try. However, this is the second one I have tried by her and just… we don’t mesh well.
I absolutely love this book! Book 3 in the illicit love series! I love a forbidden love book! An accidental pregnancy and a Vegas wedding signed me upThis book hit deep, he’s laid-back but very cheeky attitude. He agreed to look after his best friend’s daughter and well getting drunk one night together ends in consequences. Our Arizona is a fearless character. I’m not gonna lie I did shed a few tears in this book. The in this book is hot🌶️ and THE ICE CUBE SCENE HAD ME MELTING!! 🧊 I also loved seeing some characters back from previous series. Again another amazing book by Ashlee and so well written highly recommend! ✨🫶🏻
I'm in absolute awe with this book. Like seriously, it was fantastic! The writing was perfection; the characters were marvelous. I cannot express how much I loved both Ari and Keaton; they most definitely were made for each other. Their relationship may not have been an easy one; but they worked for it, and I, for one, applaud that effort. I cried, laughed, and was happy, mad, and the spice was so nice; this storyline put you through the wringer, and it was worth every single minute of it. Rose has the ability to write books that immediately drew you in, and I love her for it. Do I recommend this book? 120% YES! Is this going in my favorites? 120% YES! So go grab it now!
Absolutely phenomenal read! Ashlee is one of my favorite authors and she continues to blow me away with every book she releases!!
The Betrayal is the 3 book in the Illicit Love Series and this is the beautiful love story between Arizona and Keaton! Arizona is the daughter of Keaton’s Best Friend and was completely forbidden, until she wasn’t! Fate had a funny way of being thing these two together, because really they were meant to be! They have the best chemistry between them! I love how Keaton was just gone for her! He was brought to his knees by this women and he never looked back!
Arizona’s secrets are coming to the surface and they are all interconnected more than we ever expected. She endures some intense situations in this story but she was put back together by Keaton in the end for their HEA!
This story was perfectly written and the story was executed flawlessly! If you love a forced proximity, married in Vegas, accidental pregnancy, age gap with Dad’s Beat Friend, that this story is for you!
Wow... Ari and Keaton had me in a heck of a rollercoaster ride of emotions. But I enjoyed the crazy ride they had me on. If I'm being honest with you I'd go on the ride all over again. YES, it was that good. It wasn't easy and there was a bot of heartbreak to get through... But the love they both had made it all worth it. Thank you not only for picking me to do an arc for this book but also feeding into my dad's best friend addiction. I loved the spicy, it was 10/10 if you ask me. I received this book as an arc for an honest review.
Book three of the Illicit Love series and I do think Ashlee has been holding out on us! I truly thought Titus and Amora’s story was my #endgame but, alas, I do believe I was wrong. Keaton and Arizona. Where do I begin? The literal emotional torment, the banter (to be expected with Ashlee Rose book), the spicin’ spice, just everything.
Dad’s best friend has quickly become one of my favorite tropes, along with surprise pregnancy, forced proximity, and so many other good ones. All pro reasons why you need to read The Betrayal—or, ya know, start at book one The Resentment.
The Betrayal is part of the Illicit Love series, so I already knew the characters before reading this book, and I couldn't wait to see their story play out. I was invested from the first chapter, and I loved Arizona immediately. Her friendship with Sage was so important throughout the whole book, and with everything that happened I am glad she had Sage as someone she could talk to. Keaton was a character that I did not pay much attention to in the previous books, but learning more about him in this one, and why he is the way he is, made me like him more, and I am glad he and Arazona got together in the end. The plot was intense and I loved the mix of romance, drama and mystery. The way it all came together was perfect and made the book overall more enjoyable!
I would 100% recommend this book and the series, but would check trigger warnings before as the books, especially this one, contain some serious topics.
