Andy and the Extroverts #2

Andy and the Summer of Something

Rate this book
It's been a year since Andy Stevens attended leadership camp and changed her whole perspective. Now, she’s back at camp Follow the Leader as a counselor with the optimistic goal of helping campers just like she was: timid, withdrawn, and in need of a confidence injection. She’s even brought along her new
boyfriend Eric.

But when she arrives to find Lucas from last summer in a matching counselor vest, her plans go up in campfire smoke. Lucas helps her to lead her wild pack of extroverted campers, but he has an ulterior motive: to rekindle their romance and win Andy back.

Now she’s torn between the boy who stole her heart and the boy who is trying to fix it.

first Jessica thank you so much for an ARC of this book and I deeply apologize it took me this long to read it!

I absolutely ADORED this book!!! I just absolutely love Andy as a character and seeing her grow into herself in the book.

I relate to Andy on such a personal level. I was so sad when the book ended I just want more! I could read 10 more books about Andy and her life. Honestly such a good little series! time for me to go get a copy so it can proudly sit on my shelf <3

Thank you again Jessica!! Both for writing a series that honestly holds such a special place in my heart and for being awesome and giving me arcs for both Andy and the Extroverts, and The Summer of Something!! Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Andy is a shy girl who gained confidence when she attends Follow the Leader camp the previous summer. Returning to the camp as a counsellor along with her new boyfriend, she hopes to lead girls like herself, who just need to find their inner confidence to face the world. However, she is surprised when she is alloted the most loud and competitive bunch of girls to lead. She is much more perturbed when her ex boyfriend joins the camp as a counsellor last minute. Will she be able to maintain her new strong persona, or will she break apart under the pressure?

I liked Andy, but not anyone else. I disliked the way Paige and the girls treated her. I did not feel like their relationship with her was sincere. The way they made her uncomfortable with their opinions and behaviours made me uncomfortable too. I did not get why they were hyping up Lucas so much. I guess I didn't like that much because I haven't read the first book, but it was so rude of them to impose her to date Lucas when she already had a good relationship with her present boyfriend.

That kinda ruined the vibe for me. Since the girls were a huge part of the story, I did not enjoy much when they were antagonising Andy when they were the ones who were making her doubt herself.

The story was quite nice, disregarding the above points. It was a good young adult story about friendships, nostalgia and young love.

Thank you to BookSirens and the author and publisher for this opportunity to read this arc.
One I did not know this was the second book. Even though I did not read the first book, I could read it and not really knowing the full backstory. So it means I need to go to Barnes and noble and buy the first one lol
This book is such a quick read. It captured me right off the start. I could not believe that I finished it so quickly.
It’s about this girl name Andy who comes back to camp as a counselor and she needs to learn who she truly is. How to lead the group of girls who are completely opposite of her. She has a good boyfriend and her ex boyfriend all in one place. Of course there’s drama. It’s summer camp there has to be drama.
I loved every moment of it. It made my heart speed up, I cried made me laugh. It’s definitely a book worth reading.

When I requested this eARC, I had no idea it was the second book in a series. However, it worked perfectly fine as a standalone for me.

This was the absolute cutest, most wholesome story about a summer camp romance. Beyond that, it was a tale of leadership, resilience, working through differences, and communication. It's Andy's second year at leadership camp and her first summer as a counselor. With her new boyfriend in tow, Andy must navigate old friendships while also encountering last summer's fling. Amid these romantic entanglements, Andy grows as a counselor while working with a group of girls who are her complete opposites. Throughout the book, she deals with romance, heartbreak, and various challenges with her campers. I especially loved how Andy's relationships with her fellow counselors developed, showcasing each of their unique personalities and strengths.

I really, really enjoyed this book and would recommend it the YA crowd but also anyone who wants a wholesome nostalgic summer camp read. Team Landy FOREVER!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to the publisher and author!

I received this book as an arc read. This is a great summer read! And I wonderful continuation of Andy’s story. Great character development and I really connected with the main character. The love triangle at the beginning could’ve been a little better, a little more competition between the two guys. While Eric may have been a great guy,it was a little hard not to pull for team Landy. Overall an easy light read, great to get you ready for the summer.

I enjoyed this easy summer read as I connected to Andy in a few ways. My name is also Andy from Andrea and many of her personality traits mirror my own. I have never been to summer camp before but this book brought it to life for me. It’s exactly as I would imagine camp to be. I was team Lucas from the beginning because I immediately picked up that Andy was herself around him. In a way, the Beavers became found family. As an introvert teacher myself, I cringe when we’re forced into ice-breakers. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

When my heart stops racing, I'll try to write this better, but OMG 😭 I just finished eARC (as part of Jessica's ARC team)

Thank you!

I never did summer camp (at least not the stay away kind), and this duology is like getting to experience it, and it's so fun, exciting, and scary! The emotions and learning experience are so genuine and real ahhhhh 🥰 Like you can't help but picture yourself in the situations and how you would respond or react to it.🫣

Andy and the Summer of Something is the cherry on top. This book ties up all loose ends 🥹 but gives back even more! The friendships, growth of all characters, hidden lessons, confidence, teamwork, and being honest with yourself.

I adore this duology sooooo much 🫠

I delayed reading this because I knew I was going to love it and be devastated when I finished it…and I was right. 😭 This was the second book for this little duology and omg my sweet little romantic heart couldn’t take it. I didn’t want the summer to end, Andy learned so much at camp this year.

Andy, coming back to the camp that she was sent to originally in the first book, is now a counselor. She brings with her a boyfriend, Eric, and everything is great until Lucas arrives. Lucas, who wasn’t even supposed to be there. Lucas, who broke her heart last year. On top of the boy drama, Andy is sure head of the camp Dana put her with the wrong group of girls as her charges. Will the summer work out? Or will is be a summer of…something?

I loved just how much Andy grew in the small time at camp. That she was able to learn from her campers, as well as remembering to lean on her friends too. Paige was a great support for her, but I think the growth she had really came from within and she overcame so much. I felt bad for Eric, I could see the camp going either way, but I knew deep inside, he didn’t see Andy like Lucas did. On the other hand, Lucas was doing his darnedest to ruin Andy’s relationship, or at least it seemed that way. But in the end, everything worked out the way it needed too. The epilogue was a great way to tie up the biggest part of the story and I loved it. This book and series is just amazing. I love it. It’s a re-read for summer for sure.

The moment in the book, when they said, "You don't get to tell me who to date." "I know, because if I did, Andrea, you'd be dating me." Lives rent free in my mind!!!

Omg this book! If you're looking for a delightful and heartfelt summer camp romance, this is it! The ending!!! ❤️

This was a great YA book. It’s a cute story of one girl with two great guys. How to decide who to date, no major horrible boy friends, just not right fit(s). Added are great themes of mental health and accepting people as they are in that struggle. The story unfolds at leadership summer camp and highlights the variety of leadership skills. All of these hard topics are lightly, clearly, and respectfully addressed in a sweet YA romance. It builds strong respectful characters even when they don’t agree. Truly enjoyed this quick read.

10/10 recommend as a sweet quick YA romance.

Oh my gosh I was so excited to get back to Camp Follow The Leader with Camper Andrea… I mean Counselor Andy! Our girl is growing up and I am so proud of her! As I said in my review of the previous book in this series I have literally never connected to a character the way I do Andy. Her character is written so amazingly well, especially for those of us anxious introverts who don’t get to see a lot of characters that struggle with similar mental health issues. I love seeing her learn and grow in each of these books, and it has honestly helped me more than one would expect to see how she pushes through her struggles and how she manages her anxiety. And man does she do a LOT of soul searching and learning to be herself throughout this series.

This book is such a fun summer read that gives all of the camp at the lake feelings like the previous book. Jessica’s writing is so good at pulling you in and making you feel like you are right there walking arm and arm with the Beavers across the camp grounds or sitting next to Andy and Eric (or Lucas) in the sand under the stars. I can’t think of another book that has made it so easy for me to picture the environment and feel like I have been there myself.

It was so fun to see some old faces from last year, and get to know new ones as well. The Beaver cabin girls were a hoot and brought a lot of humor and drama to the story. I felt like I was right there with them in their huddles and activities, cheering on Team Landy! I will say, I was torn for awhile and couldn’t decide who I was hoping she would choose to be with as Eric is her childhood crush and is such a gentleman with her and they seem super sweet together, but feeling the chemistry between her and Lucas and the sweet ways he just knows her and what she needs had me swooning and recalling how cute they were “last year”.

I’ll stop here because I don’t want to spoil anything as there is so much fun sprinkled throughout, so you will definitely have to pick this one up! It could technically be read as a standalone but you miss all the fun friendships and relationship development from Andy And The Extroverts so if you haven’t make sure you read that one first!

I adored Andy and the Extroverts, and I love Andy and the Summer of Something every bit as much. On the surface, it's a great fun summer read, giving me all the great camp experiences without the bug bites or heat. 😊 But deeper than that, it's full of such great character growth. Andy is one of my favorite characters I've come across recently, and her journey in both books is real and relatable and heartwarming.

This was a cute summer read. The chemistry between the main love interests, Andy and Lucas, was very present. There is also history there. I didn’t know that this was a duology and so hadn’t read the first book, but I got the gist of what happened in book one while reading this book and did not feel lost at all.

I was not a fan of the boyfriend she had at the beginning of the story, Eric. While he might have given off perfect boyfriend vibes, I felt there was something off about that relationship from the beginning.

Andy goes through a good amount of character growth as the book progresses. There was an intervention moment that I seemed a wee bit uncalled for. Some of the things she was ‘accused’ of weren’t even her fault, it was her campers’. That annoyed me a bit. However, Andy still came out stronger for it.

Overall, I found this a good book for a summer or post-summer read. This is a good book for young adults looking for their place in the world, facing numerous insecurities.

4.5* - Rounded up to 5...

I didn't realise this was part of a series when I signed up for the ARC, but this is definitely readable as a standalone. I will, however, be reading the first book in this duet because of how much I enjoyed Andy's story, as well as the various characters we meet, that come from the previous book as well.

Andy was in a tough spot, between Eric and Lucas, but I appreciated how she was mature enough to recognise her truth, and eventually do what was right for all involved, even though she recognised the hurt it would cause. I also appreciated how the camp director recognised her strengths, and was able to play into them in a way that allowed Andy, as well as the girls she was counselor for at the camp, to grow, and overall enjoy their summer camp, and come out of the other side having learnt from each other, and grown into stronger people and leaders.

There were so many great takeaways from this story, and I look forward to re-reading this in the future.

ARC Review ✨️

☆Summer Love☆

Andy's returning to camp this year, but this time, as a counselor. She's also bringing along her boyfriend Eric. Complications arise at camp when they're informed that Eric will no longer be able to be a counselor. He'll have to work in the kitchen due to someone returning from last year. The people returning get seniority over newcomers. Little does Andy know, but the person who took Eric's spot just so happens to be Lucas. He's the guy Andy had a thing with last summer as a camper. How is this love triangle going to affect Andy's summer?
I loved this book from start to finish. I didn't realize it's actually the second book in this series, but I was able to read it just fine as a standalone. I will, however, be going back to read the first because I'm hooked on these characters! I really enjoyed all of the characters, especially Andy! The author did a wonderful job writing this, and I can't wait to read the first one!

Thanks so much to the author and Booksirens for the ARC!

Wow! I enjoyed this book way more than I expected to.
Thank you to BookSirens and the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a second in a series which I didn’t know ahead of time did time but it didn’t matter as I didn’t feel like the author was retelling the first book at all but still was able to create the world which other readers had already become familiar with. I enjoyed witnessing Andy use the skills she learned at camp as a camper in her now job as a counselor.

There was a love triangle which I won’t comment on as I don’t want to give spoilers but I was very satisfied with it and it rang so true for a teenager to be going through what Andy was.

That’s what made the book so endearing. Everything rang true to a teenager. It felt like I could go back in time and jump right into camp with them.

So for my YA loving friends, give this one a read when it drops in July!

Thank you to BookSirens and Jessica K. Foster for an ARC of this book! Andy and the Summer of Something follows Andy as she serves her first year as a counselor! A love triangle develops, and Andy is torn between the two love interests. She has to focus on her counselor duties while also fighting her own battles.

Funny thing is, I had no idea that this was a sequel, so I went in blind! However, I think this is perfectly set up to be read as an interconnected standalone.

I liked Andy, and I appreciated her mental battles as well as her unique personality. I definitely was invested in her counselor arc and her relationship developments!

The writing style was nice, and I also really enjoyed the setting of a summer camp! The characters were all fun.

I do wish the miscommunication was minimized because it usually hinders my rating, but that is subjective of course! I also wish there was more background about Paige and Eric, too.

This was such a cute read, and I recommend it for anyone looking to read a cute, light summer romance.

Once I started this book I could not put it down. Andy may have broken out of her shell last time but she had so much more to learn about herself. She is challenged beyond anything she expected at camp this year but she learned and grew and I was so proud of her by the end. It is a great story about personal growth, love, responsibility, and friendship. I will admit, I have not been 18 for a long time so some of the situations she got herself into left me yelling at the pages. How could she not understand?!? But that is how we all learned these things and Andy was no different. I would love to go into all the details and gush about my favorite parts but what fun is that for you?

If you read the first book you will not be disappointed and if you stumbled on the summer of something first you can read it stand alone but I highly encourage you to read both.

A fun - light hearted - cozy - young adult - romcom with fast paced plot line taking place in a summer camp. This is a fluffy read and was the perfect palate cleanser for me as I tend to read heavy or brain storming content back to back. It gave me butterflies.
Trope: a possible love triangle ??
Spice scenes: There are no spice scenes which was again perfect for a reader like me who prefers none to very less amount of explicit scenes. It is more of “fades to black” kind of romance. This is the only other romcom I have enjoyed after better than the movies.

After spending the previous Summer at “Camp Follow The Leader”, Andy returned to the camp as a counsellor, with her Boyfriend, Eric who had signed up to also be a Counsellor, and she was looking forward to spending time with him through the Summer.
But things didn’t go to plan when they arrived, to be told that another counsellor had signed up just before Eric, and that Eric was reassigned to Kitchen duties.

The Counsellor that had beaten Eric to the role of Counsellor was Lucas, with whom Andy had had a brief relationship with the previous Summer, but she knew it would end when Lucas left for college, and Andy hardened her heart against him.

This is a lovely story of young love, and the internal decisions Andy has to make when she realises that Lucas is still interested in her.

The story is played out across a scenario of team competitions, and the ups and downs of being young, and anxious, and not feeling good enough.
It is very well written as well as researched.
I loved how the counsellors helped each other out, and that there was competitiveness, but no animosity, and the campers became more mature, helping out their team mates, as well as their counsellor.
I look forward to reading more by this author.

In Andy and the Summer of Something, Andrea Stevens faces a dilemma. It's been a year since Andy attended leadership camp and now she's a camp counselor hoping to help campers like she'd been, lacking confidence, but that doesn't turn out like she imagined. Her current boyfriend is working in the camp kitchen and when her crush from last year's camp unexpectedly arrives, Andy's feelings are torn between the two boys. Facing one challenge after another, Andy not only learns to trust in herself but, also in her heart. I highly recommend this fast-paced, humorous, and touching tale!

I had so many memories of going to summer camp while reading this. This book was so much fun! It's full of summer camp antics, competitions, getting a second chance, and finding your voice/becoming a leader.

This is the second book of the series, but I've not read book one. After reading this one, I want to go back and get the first one! With that being said, I was not lost at all. I really enjoyed this book!

A heartfelt, summer camp romance, that leaves you feeling cozy inside. Living in the UK summer camp isn’t as big a part of our summers as the US, but this book really made me imagine what it would be like to go. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forward to any future stories from this author!

Fulfilled all of my summer camp fantasies!

A beautifully written YA novel. Andy, the main character, showed strength and growth. Although she made some mistakes along the way, she wasn't a pushover and learned from most of them.

Cute read a true coming of age of Andy going to summer camp as a counselor being a young adult navigating a boyfriend, a job, her past love, and girls.

I hope the author writes about her college years and her happy ever after when she's out of college. It's definitely worth the read.

Andy and the Summer of Something was everything I love in a YA romance. It was sweet, it was tense, and it was ultimately heartwarming. I didn’t realize it was a sequel when I read it, so I will have to go back and read the first one. If you like The Summer I Turned Pretty, you will love Andy and the Summer of Something.
