With a sprinkle of old, a dash of new, and a whole bunch of darkness and smut, in this Thumbelina retelling we follow Sorrel, a tiny naïve man who recently emerged from his flower.
Upon accompanying a stranger into an animal sprite town, the best night of Sorrel’s life turns into a journey of kidnappings, chaos, and unkindness. The fairy prince unwittingly breaks his promise to keep Sorrel safe, and he is nowhere to be found when Sorrel is forced to face the world alone as winter sets in.
He holds out hope for rescue.
He wants to be with Prince Cypress, who stole his heart with a single kiss.
How will he get home when he’s no bigger than a thumb, and the world is crueller than he ever imagined?

I was stressin for Sorrel the whole dang time.. Imagine leaving home for the first time.. You have the best night ever with a hot guy with wings... you get your first kiss. have your first orgasm 🤭 THEN.. only 5 minutes later, you get kidnapped by a nasty-ass toad…(he probably had warts) THEN.. you get stuck in a hole with a horny old lady mouse that touches your hair… Poor dude couldn't catch a break.
This was fun. I loved this. loved the ending. Their wedding night wasn't like the movie I remember 🥵.
I really enjoyed this retelling because I loved Thumbelina when I was a kid. It was fun to see the twists the author put on the situations from the OG story. Sorrel had a rude awakening to the evils of the world and Cypress wasn’t there for most of it. He had to figure out who to trust (basically no one) and became quite a bit more jaded. I appreciated the growing up aspect of the story because it gave Sorrel a chance to go into a relationship with a deeper understanding of the world. I’m a bit bummed the getting to know each other part of the story was so truncated, but still really enjoyed it.
Spice: 3.5/5
Triggers: kidnapping, attempted SA (kissing before escaping situation), captivity, violence, light gore, murder, forced engagement, hypothermia, starvation, stalking
I strongly dislike Cypress Why was bro masturbating instead of looking for Sorrel when he was abducted right under his arms??😭 Sorrel deserves better Even Sunny would have been a better love interest (but everyone was coming onto Sorrel so like I wish he just had a friend)
They are apart 47% of the time in this book, and their love is literally based on one evening spent together 😭 well Cypress has been stalking Sorrel for like 3 months before that but you get my point, this just wasn't a romance book, there was no believable romance

Sorrel's story is so lovely and also heart wrenching, I felt for him so bad. I also loved him so much! Soft and sweet but not afraid to sort shit out when he needs. I would have loved a bit more lore/info on fallout from Cyress' actions, otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed this little tale.

There wasn't much active character action - most of the stuff "just happened" or was out of our MCs controls. A cute retelling and easy read though if you enjoy fairy tales.
I absolutely loved this book! While different from Opal Reyne’s stories typically, this book was fabulous! I fell hard for Cypress and Sorrel, these two are just *chefs kiss*. Talk about swoon worthy chemistry. They’re just adorable. Sorrel’s innocence and Cypress’s obsession with Sorrel was just…magical. A re-telling of Thumbelina but in Opal Reyne’s amazing writing, I enjoyed every moment of this book. I’ll be honest, I had no idea going in what to expect, because other than knowing it was written by Opal, I didn’t look into anything else about the book. It ran the gambit of sweet and sensual, dark and vulnerable, passionate and loving, and just so much more. I really enjoyed this quicker read from Opal Reyne.
Was this a pretty rapid story? Yep. Do you get a huge amount of world building or character development? Not really. Did I enjoy it for what it was? Yes.
Sometimes you want a quick, easy read. Maybe you’re trying to hit a certain number of books in a set timeframe, this would be perfect. You get a little bit of steamy, a colourful, charming little world we get to peek into, an “all hope is lost” moment, and a happily ever after.
If you want more world building & character development, check out the author’s Duskwalker Brides series for an excellent, completed series.
I love this author. Her duskwalker series and the pirate series are SO GOOD. This one wasn’t. I didn’t love some of the plot points. And I didn’t love the main character. The writing style is good though, just like the rest of her books. I would skip this one and read her others.
Beautiful retelling of Thumbelina!!!! Opals writing is amazing, and she really makes you feel with the characters rather than for them!! It was such a great short story and the spice was spicing!!! Get into it!!!
Opal did a wonderful job keeping to the true tale of Thumbelina while doing her own spin on it. Our little MMC, Sorrell, follows the same adventures as the traditional tale while adding a morally grey prince, our MMC, Cypress and a dash of spice. This is up there as one of my favourite fairytale retellings to date.
I love this book so much I couldn't put it down. It had my emotions everywhere. This book had me hooked from the first page. I kinda hope there will be more of their story because they were perfect together. It is a must read
I loved this book! It was well written and the characters were easy to be become enthralled with. It was an easy read that flowed pretty well. I enjoyed the fact that it was a m/m retelling of Thumbelina and it was a darker read. My only complaint is sometimes it was hard to follow with the time frame. Sometimes it was read like more time had passed than what was supposed to pass. Other than that I have loved this! I can’t wait for more books to be written.
The couple spent too much time apart that I wasn't crazy about their eventual reunion. The sex scenes, sans the solo masturbation one, were well written and hot.
I have never read the story of Thumbelina before so I was confused in a few places, I think if I read/knew the story before hand it would have made this a better read.- that’s on me not the author.
But even without knowing the story it was still an enjoyable read.
