Spooky Suspense!

Small backstory:

Jake and Clarence are upset when their friend, Terrell commits suicide as they don't understand why he would do that so they decide to see if they can talk to him through a Ouija board to find out some answers to their questions. But what the two friends don't realize is that sometimes who you reach out to through a Ouija board is not who you want and the friends end up pulling "something" else through from the other side!

That is about all I can give on a small backstory without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I felt that the creepiness of the book seeped under my skin! The feeling of dread and suspense as the characters were playing around with the Ouija board just gave me some anxiety while reading the story as I knew something was going to happen!

I was not disappointed with this story as the whole book was drenched in the occult with lots of shadowy characters that gave me some really weird dreams. I liked the characters within this book though I think the book would be considered YA as it has that feel to it, but all in all the story would probably be good to read around Halloween time. Looking forward to seeing what else this author has out there. Giving this book four "Occult Chiller" stars!

“I can’t wait to show you what I found.”

A pretty thrilling tale of two boys and the supernatural/scifi adventure they go on to fix their families and reach out to their deceased friend.

I really felt bad for Jake & Clarence, their lives just sounded miserable. I couldn’t put down this story and had to find out if there was hope for them.

The ending was a little more open ended than I hoped for, and I did note some continuity errors during the tea reading section (Jake and Clarence were mixed up a few times). Otherwise, this was a fast paced and captivating tale!

The writing was bad. Had good potential but the story line all over the place.

The more I think about this book, the lower the score gets. Spooky? Sure. Well written? No. It so badly wanted to be a horror/ghosty paranormal Stranger Things. It had potential, but it’s like the author forgot to wrap up any parts of the story. What happened with Luella, her grandma, her mother and the order? What happened with Amanda and her pregnancy? Why did Jake choose to sacrifice Clarence’s mom? Was that really Rita with Jake in the house when she looked over his shoulder and saw the old woman or not? How was that pendant supposed to save Jake’s grandma? What was the light that blinded the pilot and that Terrell saw? It left much to be desired.

Give me more!!

I loved this book. An odd grouping of characters, the occult presence in a small religious town. Brotherhood, and blooming adulthood. Humor, fear, mystery. Open ended and leaves you needing so much more.

An interesting story with unexpected twists and turns. Like so many self-published books, it needs a good proofreader. "Passed" for "past" plus a bucket-load of incorrect punctuation and sentence fragments. Storywise, there are several loose ends left unresolved.

A gripping page-turner! The author did a great job with character development, especially with the teens Jake and Clarence. The supernatural storyline takes you on a rollercoaster ride, leaving you wanting more about the lurking evil presence in the small town.

I really enjoyed this creepy occult horror story, which had vibes of Stand by Me meets The Monster Squad. It was a coming of age horror story set in 1980s rural Tennessee and followed two troubled teens who unwittingly open a door into another world. A perfect book for Halloween!

DNF @ 25%. The poor writing & grammar was too distracting to even follow the story.

Not a bad read

The story was a little story. I thought there would have been more to the story. It was a okay read.

I picked this up at a convention. I thought it would have been scarier. I liked it, though.
