Though this book is geared towards those in the UK, it would be a helpful resource to anyone looking to create welcoming and affirming spaces for Autistic people.

Book review - Creating Safe Spaces for Autistic People by Scott Neilson and Laura Hellfeld. Autistically Scott & Laura Hellfeld Neurodivergent Nurse Consulting

As I write this review I'm sat here thinking, should I? Or should I just throw it in the bin? That's RSD for you. But you will have to read the book to get the context. Laura and Scott’s personalities certainly exude through their writing.

“Online friends are as valid as those we see in person”

I am happy to say that I consider both Scott and Laura friends, both have been so supportive of me in my journey and to be included in the book is truly humbling and an honour.

If you are considering setting up a group or already run one then this book is for you. I have been thinking about setting one up in my local area and now if I do this book will be my guiding star.

Whilst this is a guide for creating safe spaces for Autistic people. If you run any group or are considering it this will be really useful when considering how inclusive and accessible your group is.

There is a great section on situational mutism and things that could help. This part in itself has great value for me and it's given me more to think about.

I also think schools could find the communication template and sensory profile template useful.

I bought the full-color version. The easy-to-read large text, engaging graphics, and color blocks make it easy to read.

There is a great section on rejection sensitivity. Although my opening paragraph of this review may have given that away
