As a huge fan of The Office, I couldn’t resist picking up The Night Before Christmas at Dunder Mifflin by Brian Baumgartner, and I’m so glad I did! This fun, heartwarming retelling of the classic Christmas tale, set in the world of Scranton’s most iconic office, was an absolute delight from start to finish.
The book is a charming, festive spin on the beloved holiday classic, and it does a brilliant job of capturing the humor and spirit of The Office. I loved seeing the characters of Dunder Mifflin transformed into a Christmas story, with “Santa” and his “Elf” helper delivering presents that perfectly matched each character’s quirky personality. Pam gets a beautiful new art set, Stanley’s retirement countdown clock (which is so Stanley!), and even Toby, who of course receives a pile of roadside trash. Each present felt so true to who the characters are, and it was such a joy to see them get gifts that made sense for them.
The illustrations throughout the book are adorable, and they capture the essence of each character perfectly. I found myself smiling at every turn, from the familiar office setting to the little nods to the show’s history. Baumgartner does a great job of weaving in The Office humor, making it feel like you’re right back at the Scranton branch. And, of course, the iconic “that’s what she said” line from Michael Scott makes a perfectly timed appearance, which was the cherry on top of this already fantastic read.
What I loved most about this book is how it’s both heartwarming and funny. It captures the holiday spirit while still staying true to the hilarious and lovable characters we all know and love. It was a reminder of why The Office is such a special show, and this book brought those memories flooding back in the best way possible.
