Dewlap

Dreams used to happen only in sleep. Dreams used to be fleeting images that disappeared by morning. Now dreams are becoming reality. Ella always knew that her 'magic dreams' were different to other people's. She had them regularly, three times a week. It was always the same dream, each a continuation of the one before. Almost as if she was leading a double life. One night, as Ella falls asleep, she finds herself moving through the bright Veil and emerges in a surreal, colourful world of coral coloured tree-like 'Dendras' and purple grass, full of blue human-like creatures called Dap. Ella learns she is in Dewlap, a world only she can enter from Earth, and she discovers disturbing secrets about her past and who she really is. As she struggles to come to terms with this new knowledge, and learns more about Dewlap, Ella realises that it's not only her own world that's changing. Objects from people's dreams are spilling into reality. Dark chaos descends on both Earth and Dewlap as the two worlds begin to merge at the hands of a fanatical Dap called Syo, and Ella must help to bring back stability. With the assistance of her Dap friend Dui, Ella must confront poisonous Twangle leaves, addictive Spry, unmerciful Sirens and sinister Dap. Dewlap layers light-hearted imaginative fantasy with a deeper undercurrent of corruption and morality. It makes you think about the importance of close family and friends; it is the kind of novel that gets under your skin and leaves a lasting indelible mark.
