If you love your dystopian novels, then you have to get your hands on a copy of “Divided”. This book is straight up action packed, in a world that is diverse and filled with tension packed scenes.

In this novel you’re dropped into this wild world where everyone's stuck in their own little designated section, based entirely on their skin color or where their parents came from. And I'm not talking about some metaphorical divide - we're talking massive, sky-high walls keeping everyone apart. No commnication whatsoever between these groups.

The whole concept of "Divided" had me impressed, for real. It's not just another teen dystopia story - this one digs deep. We're talking about fighting the system, uncovering all sorts of crazy secrets, and just trying to grab onto that basic human stuff we all want: freedom, connection, all that good stuff.

We follow four main characters. Each one's from a different section, and somehow they all end up in this secret labour camp. And let me tell you, they're trying to pull off something that seems totally impossible. I don't wanna spoil it, but let's just say it's big.

The pacing in this book? Brilliant. It's like riding a rollercoaster that never slows down. One minute you're learning about the world, the next you're in the middle of a tense confrontation. I was flipping pages so fast I thought I'd get paper cuts!

The author deserves a round of applause for how they put this story together. The plot is solid, but it never feels confusing or over-the-top. Everything fits together like a puzzle, and just when you think you've figured it out, another surprise hits you.

If you're into those classic YA dystopian books - you know, "Hunger Games," "Divergent," all that good stuff - "Divided" is gonna be right up your alley. It's got all the stuff you love: heart-pounding action that'll have you on the edge of your seat and this constant, intense drive for freedom that'll have you pumped.

But it's not just about the action. This book gets you thinking about some real-world stuff too. Like, how do we treat people who are different from us? What happens when we let fear control our society? It's deep, but not in a way that feels like a boring lecture.

Bottom line: "Divided" is a total page-turner that'll keep you up way past your bedtime. It's fresh, it's intense, and it's got something to say. So grab a copy, clear your schedule, and get ready for a wild ride. Trust me, you won't regret it!

For lovers of dystopian novels this book is for you! I can see this book becoming as big as the hunger games and divergent! I enjoyed it more than divergent even.

Following the Great Civil War the United States was taken over by a dystopian regime and the people divided by ethnicity into different sections kept apart by walls. Never to interact. This story follows the story of four teenagers, one from each ethnic group, who all wind up working for the underground to overthrow the government, with the fist step being to free an illegal labor camp one of the main characters ended up in.

This book kept me entertained through every page and had me almost crying in the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for book 2! I felt along with the characters as they witnessed the injustice and corrupt things happening around them in their post war world. There is palpable tension with thrilling action as we follow Marcos, Harriet, Rose and Jason through this wall divided, dystopian world. The Underground’s struggle to end the tyrannical government led by supreme leader Martin, is inspiring in this story of survival and testament of human endurance.

“Bravery doesn’t mean your not scared. Bravery is doing what’s right even if you’re afraid.”

Well “walls balls” this was an amazing dystopian read by CC Robinson! 🤩
I really enjoyed the concept and storytelling of this book. I also enjoyed getting to know the characters, especially their individual stories that explain how they come to be in the rebel movement ‘The Underground’. I loved how the storyline eventually brings them all together to fight against evil dictator Martin who keeps them all ‘divided’.
I absolutely loved this book and felt every high and low as it happened - highly recommend! 🤩💫

This gripping dystopian novel envisions a divided United States governed by a harsh and oppressive regime. Society is segregated by ethnicity, with towering walls enforcing strict separation and banning any interaction. The narrative centers around four teenagers—Marcos, Rose, Harriet, and Jason—each belonging to a different group.

Marcos Sanchez, an eighteen-year-old, dreams of escaping the tyranny of both his authoritarian father and the ruthless Supreme Commander Martin. But when a daring decision leads him to a secret labor camp, he discovers The Underground—a secret resistance group fighting to overthrow the regime. Together, the teens take on the dangerous mission of liberating the camp. Read this book to find out what challenges they will face in their journey.

The story captivated me so deeply that it made me forget my boring routine. The characters are richly developed, with Marcos and Rose standing out as my personal favorites. It's a compelling and immersive read—I loved every part of it. This book will inspire readers to value and fight for their freedom. I devoured it in one sitting and can't wait to dive into the next installment in the series.

I really enjoyed this dystopian story of rebellion, secrets, the longing for freedom and the unstoppable force that is the human spirit.
You meet the characters throughout the first few chapters, learn their back story and their roles within the book. With rules, patrols, curfews, walled towns, and constantly under surveillance it’s hard to imagine anyone could possibly escape.
Fairly fast paced, holds your attention as the story progresses. I liked the MC Marcos and his unquenchable thirst for freedom, but also how he tried to protect those he cares about.
Follow the challenges he faces and the risks he takes all for his freedom…. Will he get what he so desperately wants?! You’ll have to read it to find out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ARC read:

The story is about an 18 yr old who really wants to leave his area of Havana in the Federation of America. His little sister is witty and hopeful definitely my favorite character.

The writing was good very well told I could visualize the entire story. I did, struggle a little as I needed to actually remember what Spanish I had learned. Eventually it all came back and the flow went a lot smoother.

*Divided* by CC Robinson is a gripping YA dystopian novel that plunges readers into the bleak, divided world of the Federated Republic of America. At the heart of the story is eighteen-year-old Marcos Sanchez, whose life is dominated by the towering walls of Queenstown and the iron grip of the ruthless dictator, Supreme Commander Martin. Marcos dreams of escaping his oppressive reality, but his path to freedom is fraught with peril and seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Robinson's storytelling shines as Marcos’s daring move lands him in a secret labor camp, a place where hope is scarce, and the future appears grim. It is here that Marcos encounters The Underground, a secret rebel movement determined to overthrow Martin's regime. The novel deftly explores themes of resilience, camaraderie, and the fight for justice as Marcos and his diverse group of friends rally against tyranny.

The tension in *Divided* is palpable, with thrilling action sequences and unexpected betrayals that keep readers on the edge of their seats. Robinson's portrayal of the rebel movement’s struggle against Martin’s brutal dictatorship is both harrowing and inspiring, highlighting the high stakes and the immense courage required to challenge such a formidable foe.

Fans of YA dystopian fiction will find *Divided* a compelling read, filled with relentless quests for freedom and the indomitable spirit of its characters. Robinson masterfully weaves a tale of hope and defiance, making *Divided* not just a story of survival, but a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit in the face of oppression.

‘Diversity is the thing that unites us, not the thing that divides us’ - A compelling novel!

Ohio author CC Robinson, a physician and pastor, brings to this initial volume of her The Divided Series an exceptional life of working to address the divisiveness and racial hatred in this country and others. Opening the initial novel of a projected Divided series with a map of the Federated Republic of America – the US, with the west coast ‘dead lands’ separated (divided) from the east coast ‘dead lands’ by the central ‘plains’ - sets the visual tone for this dystopian YA novel. She creates many other versions of the ‘divided’ concept, including physical walls, racial, ethnic, political, free vs. controlled – all realized with excellent language and storytelling skills that make this novel not only immensely entertaining and captivating, but also a platform for appreciating contemporary parallels! A quote from Flavia, “Supreme Commander Martin is a military leader and business genius, but why did the nations to the north and south repeatedly try to kill him? These are so-called democracies, whatever that means. Why does no one ask about that?” An answer from Marcos – “Before the Great Civil War forty-five years ago, our nation was called the United States of America and resembled the Independent Republic of Texas and Canada, in that we were a democracy. I didn’t understand it all, but the people elected national leaders…” Read on to discover!

Marcos Sanchez at age eighteen seeks to escape a controlling abusive father and the authoritarian rule of Supreme Commander Martin of the Federated Republic of America, but his path toward ‘freedom’ includes landing in a labor camp where he and three other disparate youths discover The Underground – a rebellion focused unit, and the inception of the struggle against the tyranny of the Supreme Commander ignites. Their plight forms the resonating plotline of the novel.

Satisfying on every level, this dystopian ‘fiction’ alerts all readers to examine possibilities, and in doing so, nearly guaranteeing eagerly awaiting the future novels in this series. Very highly recommended.

The book is about an eighteen-year-old young man named Marcos Sanchez, who lives in the federal republic of America, which he never liked for one bit.

Always having in mind that he would leave the place, he did everything possible for him to be able to escape from the place, but he always never saw a future in it because of the presence of his father and the fact that he always controlled him. His father had always seen him as his clone and wanted him to follow his footstep, like when he wanted him to follow his admin track and work in administration, but he never liked that path because he loathed writing; instead, he preferred being a driver, which got his father angry, and he got some beating from him afterwards.

In a pivotal turn of events, his life takes a dramatic shift as a daring decision propels him into the depths of a hidden labour camp, where he is forced to confront a destiny more ominous than the spectre of death, only to serendipitously cross paths with an enigmatic and underground faction known as The Underground, setting in motion unforeseen challenges and revelations that will reshape his very existence.

The writer did a great job with the storyline, which was masterfully crafted, keeping it engaging, and the characters were incredibly vivid and multi-dimensional, each with their own unique personalities and motivations.

My favourite character in the book is his sister Flavia, because she was always lively and chatty, having a good sense of humour.

A little late to the party, but wow! Definitely worth the wait.

Divided is a definite step forward in the worldbuilding set up in the prequel novella, Upheaval (but don't worry, you don't need to have read the prequel, as Robinson peppers in enough details in the first few chapters to catch you up on the origins of this world, while also sprinkling a few easter eggs for observant fans).

Divided follows four teens from different backgrounds as they navigate a dystopian near-future America that has been divided by a malicious dictator along arbitrarily-defined racial lines. Groups are divided into different parts of each city and divided (literally) by electric fences. Alternating chapters flesh out the world from the perspective of each main character: Marcos, Harriet, Rose, and Justin.

One of the most striking themes in the book different approaches the main characters take to resist (or comply with) what they eventually come to understand as an oppressive regime. The four teens come from not only different racial backgrounds, but different levels of privilege and power, and they each grapple with their own sense of complicity in the atrocities they witness. As the plot unfolds, forces push all four into an unlikely collaboration that will teach them all about the responsibility and danger of revolution.

A specific set-piece and conflict provide a complete story arc for the book, while leaving plenty of subplots and characters open for further exploration in future installments in the series. Will be looking forward to the next book!

This is a brilliant read for fans of YA dystopian fiction. I can see it bringing a new group of readers to this genre and the film rights being snapped up.

There are so many interpretations of ‘divided’ throughout the whole book. The Federated Republic of America is divided into 3 distinct sections. There are also physical walls creating division. Then there are less tangible divides between race, politics and freedom. This book feels very much like a commentary on the current state of the world.

At the heart of the story are four teenagers - Marcus, Harriet, Rose and Justin and we follow along from their distinct POVs. They each come from distinctly different backgrounds yet are forced to team up when they join a rebel movement called The Underground. In their quest for freedom each of them must decide how far they are prepared to go and how much they are prepared to risk.

The world building and character development are outstanding in this fast paced thrilling read. It is utterly compelling and will have the reader sucked in from the very beginning and quite possibly losing sleep to finish it. The twists and turns actually had me gasping at times.

This is definitely one of my top reads of 2025 and I can’t wait to read the next instalment.

Great book

This is Book 1 of the Divided Series and anyone who reads this series must start here - Book 2 most definitely isn't a standalone.

The story follows a world that was once America and is now... very much, not America.

People are segregated by mainly heritage, and you are never allowed to mingle - no visiting 'Little Asia' on a whim!

One young man unfortunately ends up in a labour camp that this dystopian world runs and finds a whole underground movement against the regime.

This initially started as a medium pace book but slowly increased with speed as the urgency of the story increases.

The story itself is pretty haunting and gritty and the fact it is told from various POVs, you also get to see life in the other sections and how all the characters are linked.

Marcos is very resourceful for an 18 year old but given his upbringing, you'd expect it and it was great to see him find 'his people' and those who think like him as this really helped to develop his character and bring him into his own.

It's a great story and would be a fantastic read for the age group it is aimed at as it is sure to spike interest and give way to many, many questions that could be debated.

A great conversation started and a great book!

This is an exceptional Dystopian novel packed with hope, persistence and the will of the down trodden and one which had me fully invested from page 1.
After a brutal civil war, America has now become the Federated Republic of America. Split into regions by Supreme Commander Martin and his brutal regime, poverty is rife. Each section has been divided by, what else ethnicity. But things are much bleaker than anyone suspected. When Marco is arrested for being a spy, he is taken to a labour camp for people believed to be traitors of the FRA.
The Underground exists with one purpose in mind, freedom. However when the hidden secrets of the labour camps are discovered, there is only one place that freedom can start, with those who were punished for exactly that!

This book is so well written and the concept is great and exceptionally well executed. The suspense and drama was absolutely gripping. The characters are all diverse and have their own skillset to bring to the table. Plenty of depth and dynamics to them all. Describe as YA dystopia but this can honestly be enjoyed by all ages.
This is a story of hope, of the strength of the under dogs and a will to make life better. A powerful read

The Review

What a compelling, gripping dystopian read. The author did an incredible job crafting a narrative that spoke to this world's gritty reality. The mythos and world-building the story took on elevated the action and the drama that unfolded. The setting is unique in this story, as the story brings the reader into a divided land, with the imagery in the author’s writing capturing the nation's divisiveness.

The heart of this story resides in the character development and the themes that this story represents. The way the story mirrored our divisive world and the conflict in recent years spoke to the theme of oppression and overcoming the odds to find hope once more. The characters embodied this perfectly, and having multiple points of view allowed the reader to get a clearer picture of how the nation divided amongst itself.

The Verdict

A thrilling, compelling, and entertaining YA Dystopian read, author CC Robins’s “Divided” is a must-read novel. The twists and turns in the story and the emotional heart of this story as the characters band together and face overwhelming odds made this one story you wouldn’t want to put down and a great entry in the series.

The Essense of Dystopian Fiction

Divided is a dystopian tale in which world-building and an intricately crafted plot take priority over fast-paced action. The story unfolds at a moderate pace, allowing the reader to get a lot of insight into the protagonists' backgrounds and motivations. The Author succeeded in creating a dark, alternative version of America controlled by an authoritarian regime, where people are constantly under surveillance and scrutiny from the authorities. In this gloomy world, the lead characters' paths intertwine as they unite under a common goal of fighting for freedom.
The book will appeal to fans of dystopian settings who like to take their time with a book. While the story picks up the pace towards the end, you won't find action-packed sequences and guns blazing in every other chapter. This is by no means a downside, though. Being a fan of more action-oriented books myself, I still picked up the sequel and am looking forward to continuing the story.

Divided by CC Robinson is the first book in a series a dystopian thriller. This is the first of his works that I have read. It reminds me of Grapes of Wrath in a way that the family leaves one tragic situation and heads into another. Divided is also like the Odessey in that the main protagonist escapes from hell only to land in dire situations. His journey takes him from hell and back as he and his friends find their way through a dangerous yet risky journey. Taking down the corrupted leadership leaves me wondering in suspense on how their journey was going to turn out as it progressed. A little bit like Fahrenheit 451 in a lot of ways. Going against the current government-fighting for freedom. CC Robinson created a read that is intense, action-packed, and thrilling from beginning to end. I highly recommend it to all. Freedom and survival themes at their greatest.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

Marcos, the MMC, is 18-years old. He wants to escape the ruthless Supreme Commander, he dreams of it. He discovers a rebellion after landing in a labor camp, but he also befriends three other teens from the other sections. Will the risks and dangers of The Underground be worth it?

The giant walls that divided people based off color and their parents, also prevent communication between the groups, and that was so depressing. I couldn't imagine living in such a world, but CC brought it to life in such realism.

The pacing was amazing, and had me on edge the entire time, it was a wild ride. I don't know how so much was packed into the story, but it has curfews, absolute surveillance, resilience, fight for justice, secret labor camp, a secret rebellion. The tension was as high as the walls. I was surprised by how much I really enjoyed this book since YA isn't usually my thing, but I love dystopian books, so thought I'd give this one a try. Worth it!

Unfortunately this one was just not for me!
The book is set in a post war area in the US, overtaken by a dictator who has split the mid-eastern part of the US into four areas based on the colour of peoples skin. Each area has culturally stereotypical food, fashion and ways to greet one another, and cannot interact with individuals from other areas.
The plot and idea of the book was really good in my opinion, I just thought it wasn’t very well executed. I also thought the end was a bit anti-climatic, however, for a younger audience I can imagine this was a great place to finish off and keep readers guessing where the story will take us next.
As much as I didn’t love this book, I am definitely interested to where this series is going to go and what is going to happen to the characters! Following 4 different stories / areas was super interesting and understanding how they all came together at the end was really cool!

‘Divided’ is a thought-provoking dystopian adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Fast-paced with plenty of action, C.C. Robinson imagines a world ruled by a ruthless dictator named Martin who keeps his population racially divided in separate districts.

Four characters dominate the storytelling, each from a distinct district with different customs and cultures. As the story weaves onward, the characters team up when they join a rebel movement called The Underground. Each character has different fears to overcome and must sacrifice their safety to try and overthrow the tyrant pulling their strings.

Brave, intriguing, and timely, C.C. Robinson’s debut proves that diversity is the strength that unites us, not the thing that divides us.

Perfect for fans of The Hunger Games and Divergent series looking for their next dystopian read.

I really enjoyed this book. I love a good YA novel and this did not disappoint. It was a fantastic start to the series.

I like the cover. The colours are lovely and the design definitely suits the genres.

CC has written the book really well and it flows perfectly. There are multiple POVs from characters such as Marcos, Rose, Jason etc. I've forgotten the girl's name from the Obsidian district!

The setting is brilliant. The world building was excellent. Queenstown and the Federal Republic of America was just brilliant.

The characters are wonderful. They're so rich and full of depth. I really liked Marcos and Rose. They were both good to read about. I enjoyed how they interacted with the other characters and the world around them.

I really recommend this and I can't wait to read the next book!

This is quite an interesting YA book where the setting is the dystopian USA, and the protagonist is a young boy's search for freedom. Marcos is a great character, which many young readers can relate to. Looking at the character's situation in the book, what has become of America is quite interesting, which makes me feel so fortunate we are not in that situation. The characters experiencing challenges in their lives have made them stronger together, which is great as it promotes community and friendship. Their adversities strengthen them and do not break them. It has some interesting characters and situations that are grim; a lawless America is the worst if we think that we are oppressed now; in this world, Americans are dehumanized and enslaved. Of course, it has a nice ending, but I am curious about what adventures the group will experience in the next book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This YA dystopian book absolutely gripped me from start to finish. It’s packed with questions, tension, revelations, and moments that make you pause and think. There’s mystery, fear, loyalty, friendship, and a thread of bravery that runs through the entire story.

One quote I loved:
“Bravery doesn’t mean you are not scared. Bravery is doing what’s right even if you’re afraid.”

This line sums up so much of what the characters face. The world-building is strong, the pacing is fast, and the stakes feel real. It’s the kind of story that stays with you after you close the book.

If you enjoy thoughtful dystopian fiction with emotional depth and sharp twists—this one’s for you.

I really enjoy a good Dystopian novel and I have to say that Divided is a fantastic opener for a Dystopian series. It gives you enough to get your hooked but leaves little pieces to be continued that you just need to know what happens next.

The world building is fantastic and the characters are completely unforgettable. I adored each and every one as well as the twists and turns along the way. The pace is fairly fast but at the same time nothing felt rushed and I never felt like we needed more explanations or extra sections. In short this was a brilliant introduction to the series and has left me wanting more.

As always thank you to Zooloo’s Book Tours for the copy to review. My review is always honest, truthful and freely given.

CC Robinson did a fantastic job bringing this harrowing story to life. The reader is transported into Martin’s territory and completely immersed in the post-apocalyptic world. This world is unique in that it is divided into areas, and yet beyond Martin’s reach, other areas might be better off.

The characters vary in mannerisms and knowledge, growing throughout the book with the new knowledge they gain. It is interesting to see how they connect when they finally meet others from different areas. I could feel the character’s emotions as they struggled to fight back.

If you enjoy post-apocalyptic novels, this is an excellent book for you. I am excited to see what’s next.

This action-adventure science fiction book for young people is undoubtedly one of its kind. "Divided" is the first book in the saga and tells the story of 4 young people who must make drastic decisions to try to save their world. With the regime behind them, they must try to tear down the walls that separate them.
Chapter after chapter, this novel is without a doubt super captivating. The plot is undoubtedly fresh and modern, and the characters have their internal struggles and witnessing their metamorphosis is incredible. I think it is a perfect book for young people looking for a great science fiction book. I highly recommend this book.

A great sci-fi!

It is a must read for fans of sci-fi. It is a story about life in the Federated Republic of America, in which all people have to know their place and to stay there. In this context, four teenagers seek freedom beyond borders but must decide the price they are willing to pay for it.
I really liked it from beginning to end. The story addresses a common theme in this literary genre but I think it is great because the author gives it his personal and unique touch. It is a fast-paced book full of action and challenges that captivates the attention of readers from first pages. I enjoyed it and I recommend it!

I had read the prequel before reading this and I am glad that I did as this made me enjoy this book so much more. I was able to relate to the characters and the world more as I already knew them from Upheaval. The author has done an amazingly fantastic premise and this is the book which has filled the space that Divergent and The Hunger Games did for me in my teens. I will definitely be patiently waiting for the next installment of this as I need to know what happens with the characters going forward.

In Divided, we are taken on a thrill ride through a divided future ruled by tyranny.

If you love dystopian novels, Divided must be your next read. It'll grab you attention and will hold it to the very end and is certain to keep you turning the pages long after you should have gone to sleep.

There's action, with a fast paced, exciting, rebellious storyline, and a great cast of well developed characters with great depth.

The world building is top notch and will keep you fully immersed in this future tale, and I read this in two sittings.

Imagine a world where a dictator has segregated people into ethnic groups and are not allowed to mingle. A group of teens find each other in the underground where resistance fighters are working to overthrow the current regime. They train, get to know each other and devise a plan to free a work camp. I found the book (I’m way past the suggested age range of 12-18) engrossing. I had a hard time putting it down, wanting to find out how they would execute their plan. Each character had its own challenges to overcome. Captivating to the final chapter!

Usually, I do not like the dystopian genre except in movies. The book was written well. It held my attention. My emotions were on high alert because I felt the emotions of the characters mixed with my own. The plot was good. I enjoyed getting to know the individual stories of the characters and how they came together. I love the multiple pov's. This is a story of rebellion, fight for freedom, and secrets. If you like Hunger Games, Divergent, and Maze Runner you will like this.
