From the esteemed Rick Gualtieri's Facebook update that brought my attention to this interesting collection of short(er) stories:
"Not too many people know I help run a local writer group here in New Jersey. The Tri-County Writers meet twice a month virtually and is open to people of all skill and experience levels. For the last year or so I've been helping to coach them in the writing, editing, and eventual publication of an anthology of ghostly tales, short stories, and poems. While some of them have been published before, for many it's their first time, which makes it extra special.
To that end I am super proud to announce that the culmination of their hard work is now live for Kindle and Kindle Unlimited, and should be live shortly for paperback. They've all worked really hard for this and it's for a good cause as all proceeds will be donated to Creature Comfort Pet Therapy of New Jersey."
So you're telling me I can get my fill of new and independent writers AND contribute to a good cause? Sign me up every time for that, please!
Now whereas my usual reviews tend to go on (and on and on) about my thoughts about everything from plotting to characterizations and definitely editing, too, I don't want to veer in this case in the direction of anything that might want to be considered hyperbole or other types of 'boles that might be out there, hyper or not. Instead, I will only say that I was duly impressed that each and every story or whatever form these writers' efforts appeared in came with a healthy dollop of real emotion. Not only from the characters or the situations, but also from the writers themselves. I could feel that each participant had poured a little of their own being into these magical potions that we enjoy via organized electrons or as markings between processed wood, etc.. And it was definitely appreciated!
I only hope that they will all continue their "training" as it were (or is or will be). And if I'm being honest, I'm definitely a little jealous that they got to participate in what must have been an awesome setting, working together with not only one of my favorite urban fantasy authors (we'll call that superbole) but getting to support each other in learning about what must be a challenging task, namely, getting your work published and "out there"! So kudos again to all and keep up the great work!
