Unbreakable

Rate this book
Dylan Sorrento knew he’d marry Jeanine Wendlock the moment he saw her singing karaoke in a dive bar. Their twin flame love burned hot and fast, ushering them down the aisle to happily ever after in just a few short months. Dylan was content being captain of the L.A. Princes hockey team and Jeanine thrived as the leader of the team’s wives and girlfriends.

They felt unbreakable.

Three kids and eight years later, Dylan gets traded to the Ohio Rusties and their sunny California life slips below the horizon.
That’s when the cracks begin to show.

As they adjust to life with a new team and a new city, all the little fragments from a long history together become massive problems. Things that once seemed livable become unforgivable.

Jeanine makes a drastic choice, and Dylan launches a five-point plan to win her back. But will it be too little, too late, or just the thing to make them fall in love again?

What an AMAZING 🤩 book this was. I’ve never felt so close to a character before. This book talks a lot about marriage, motherhood, mental health issues, miscarriages, and how to work it out with your partner. ♥️ This book was beautifully written and we got to read both characters pov. I cried with them, laughed, and fell in love with them and their family. 🥰 This book will definitely be a reread in the future. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

I learned my heart is indeed NOT unbreakable while reading this.

Unbreakable is the story of NHL player Dylan Sorrento and his wife Jeanine.
This is not the just the college hockey player/puck bunny storyline (no judgement, I love that storyline)
Unbreakable is also the story of a marriage in crisis, second chances and how important mental health care and acknowledgement is.
It's deep, it's really raw at times and it made me cry a lot. A LOT Ms. Galliaro!!

Dylan has had a long NHL career in LA, and his wife Jeanine is the strong woman that holds the family together while he's on and off the ice.
But, what happens after? What happens when the career is over? And what stresses did the career and family responsibilities put on each of them?

What I loved was the unflinching look at what can happen to marriage over time, and how vulnerable it can be.
Told in a past/present storyline, you can't help but fall in love with this couple and root for them. Every step was perfect in this, and I highly recommend! Even for through turmoil, be prepared for some 🌶️

Due out November 1st, keep your eyes peeled for this!

Thank you to SunnyBabePR and the author for a chance to read and review in exchange for my honest opinion.

The premise was solid, but I don’t think I’ve ever felt that a FMC and MMC have not belonged together. Neither are great at communication, but wow Dylan is incredibly problematic - namely that it takes him so long to even realize he’s a huge part of the problem. Then he spends more time feeling bad for his previous faults while laying more emotional stress on the his already struggling wife. And throughout, they’d go from having a fight or a genuinely important argument to sex. Which is fine, Jeanine even called out that some couples use it as a bandaid, but these two seemed to do it to avoid hard conversations or the self-reflection they really needed to have.

Jeanine deserved a better husband. The kids deserved a better father. I think I would have preferred this story to have a “sad” ending where they ultimately chose to go their separate and figure out how to co-parent or something.

This book is not what you expect for a series opener but that is exactly the magic of it! Dylan and Jeanine have been together for a long time and you get to follow them through the happily (or not so) ever after.

If you’ve been married (or in a relationship) for any amount of time you know life has seasons of joy, sorrow, and challenges. This story beautifully depicts a couple who has allowed the challenges of life to pile up too high.

Throughout this story, you’ll see a realistic take on finding joy in the hard seasons of relationships (in a hockey setting because who doesn’t love that?!). If you are interested in a book that features the things that happen after the “happily ever after”, this is an emotional but lovely story of perseverance through a relationship!

Please do yourself a favor and read this book. This book is SO raw and had me feeling every single emotion. I haven’t read too many sports romance books, but this is so much more than that.

It’s not your typical romance book where a new couple falls in love. This story follows Dylan and Jeanine’s long term marriage. Dylan is a hockey captain and Jeanine is a stay at home mom, raising their three little ones.
All relationships and marriages have their hardships, and this story navigates through the every day joys, struggles and heartbreaks that we face. These characters seemed so real and relatable and this story was so beautifully written. I can’t wait to read more of this series and continue on with Dylan and Jeanine’s journey.

I'm a lover of second chance romance books specially when it kicks in a broken marriage and I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't. Some parts of the book were very well written and realistic but other parts were just bland and VERY repetitive. Jeanine was just BEYOND annoying, like fuck, we fucking understand where you are coming from but whining after every single minor inconvenience is just PLAIN annoying. I just think this book would've been absolutely outstanding if it took a different route in the plot with another way of execution because the way it was executed, it hindered the beauty of the second chance romance.

I tried, I really did, but I could only make it to about 30% of Unbreakable before I had to call it quits. The fmc, Jeanine is frustratingly whiny and resentful, primarily because her husband moved their family to California for a job—a change that, realistically, isn’t exactly an exile to the middle of nowhere. She blames him for her stalled career, though when they met, she was already bartending without any roles on the horizon. What exactly did she sacrifice here?

Dylan, her husband, doesn't come across much better. He’s practically a man-child, looking for praise just for basic tasks like loading the dishwasher. Instead of supporting his wife against a problematic mother-in-law, he makes things worse by arranging for his mother to stay with J for a week while he's gone. The Thanksgiving scene in particular felt like something straight off a cringe Reddit post, with Dylan’s utter failure to support J and keep his mother’s worst behavior in check.

Then there’s the "primal play" moment, which takes a bizarre turn when they decide to indulge in a loud, intense scene in a common area—while their kids are asleep in the house. Not only did this push the limits of realism, but it was hard to understand why any responsible parent would risk exposing their children to this. And don’t even get me started on the scene where J uses a knife to cut hair out of the vacuum. A knife. Who does that when scissors exist?

Overall, the lack of chemistry between the characters, the unappealing personality traits, and the increasingly absurd choices left me with no desire to finish this book. For me, this was a hard no.

ARC review! Heartbreakingly realistic!

When I read the note to readers, I instantly fell in love. The premise is a romance novel of a married couple. As much as I enjoy new love, there’s something truly beautiful reading about something so relatable. I teared up because of the honesty and realness of the fights this married couple go through, but also - how we do everything we can for those we love! A lot of ups and downs, some humour, and some spice (very good spice!). There was a bit of repetitiveness in writing, but since there were so many secondary characters, it was helpful.

Unbreakable is a second chance hockey romance with main characters in their 30s. It is the perfect representation of a marriage in crisis fighting for love. This book will break your heart and put it back together slowly beat by beat.

My favorite quote:
“We're told love is about the happily ever after, but that doesn't just show up in the mail. Happily ever after can't be added to a bridal registry, or bought as a couch when you move in together. Some days, happily ever after is incredibly easy. On other days, it feels like getting raked over hot coals. Sometimes you need the hot coals to bring back a little fire.”

I devoured Unbreakable, utterly enthralled by Dylan and Jeannie's poignant journey. As someone drawn to stories of couples overcoming marital struggles, this book resonated deeply, hitting uncomfortably close to home.

Dani's masterful storytelling seamlessly weaves past and present, crafting relatable characters and heartfelt moments. I laughed, cried, and felt invested in their love story. What struck me most was the raw honesty and realness of their struggles – it hurt to read, but in the best way possible. This story forced me to confront my own perspectives and emotions, and for that, I'm grateful.

Unbreakable is more than just a romance novel; it's a reflection of real-life relationships and the challenges that come with them. I appreciate Dani's courage in tackling tough topics with sensitivity and authenticity.

A must-read for hockey romance fans, especially those seeking second-chance stories and mental health representation. Pre-order now and get ready to fall in love with the Rusties!

Unbreakable

Thank you to @danigalliaroauthor and @sunnybabepr for providing me a copy of this book!

Jeannie and Dylan are married and 8 years into their life together; three kids, Dylans hockey career and their tumultuous move to a new area begins to create cracks in the foundations of their life. Jeannie feels unappreciated, overwhelmed and can’t keep up with her whirlwind busy schedule. Taking a risk and making a point seem to be the only solution here…but will it help or make this worse?

Firstly, this is not just a hockey romance book; this is also a book about the struggles of marriage, of keeping the spark alive after having kids and Jeannie and Dylan working together to try and fix their problems and learning to communicate. Their marriage is one with problems I think many will relate to also.

It was so refreshing to read, being able to relate to Jeannie in so many ways was touching, torn between her head and heart, wanted to do what was expected of her but also knowing its not what she needed at that moment, her desire to want to be able to do it all, but struggling; it’s relatable.

The communication between the main characters was raw, it was realistic and gut wrenchingly accurate. Although they sat in a very privileged position financially, it gave the reader a vulnerable look into these characters lives; the things people never want others to know.

I found myself frustrated when the main characters were, devastated alongside them when they were reminded how harrowing it may be to lose each other, and sobbing at 2:30am when they kept pushing and working through their problems. The flick between ‘Then’ and ‘Now’ helped provide background and shows how much they had been through together.

This book touches subjects I think many authors would be worried to, such as one person being the default parent, mental health representation, unhealthy family relationships, parent guilt and many other areas, but this is life - real life, and I loved this book all the more because of it.

I am one of those people that loves interconnected series and lots of bonus epilogues because I want to check in on my fave couples and make sure all is still right in the world... Which means marriage in crisis is one of those tropes that I both love and hate equally because I'm getting exactly what I want but also being emotionally wrecked in the best way.

Dani Galliaro did a great job of really seeing those hidden things that happen in a marriage that go unnoticed and how the people in a relationship respond differently to the same situations. Reading this book I felt seen and heard and I also felt angry, emotional and happy and of course I cried. I loved that Dylan and Jeanine had this epic twin flame romance that caught them both by surprise. They were so intense and yet even the strongest relationships can falter or benefit from therapy. Both characters did a lot of self reflection and then they also spent a good amount of time trying to see things from the other's perspective. It was an emotional ride but totally worth it. The author did a great job of showing us the beautiful and ugly side of marriage and they also gave great respect to the mental health issues discussed. The story did not shy away from talk of therapy, medication, and seeing the signs but it also showed us what happens when we just kinda hope for the best.

The friend groups involved were a great addition that helped bring the story to life. Seeing both characters struggle in situations outside of their relationship also made them more three dimentional.

The story is told in dual 1st person POV with chapters set both in the present and in the past as their relationship both originally started and grew to the breaking point.

-- marriage in crisis
-- hockey romance
-- sports romance
-- mental health rep
-- starting over
-- second chance
-- kinky open door steam
-- twin flame

This book! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I've connected with so many characters in the past, but never have I connected with any so deeply than with Jeanine and Dylan....well mainly Jeanine. As a stay at home mom I felt everything Jeanine goes through in here. Add the extra care for a special needs child and it's even more exhausting to be honest. On top of that, add mental health problems...
So girl, I totally see you. I am you.
Absolutely loved the rawness and real relationship issues spotlighted in this story.
So often when reading romance stories we just get the happy bits and than the ever loving happily ever afters.
But this one, showed the scenes in between those happy times.
Relationships are hard. We all know there will be downs with the ups. Especially long term relationships. And this story is focused on those downs.
It's the love and fight these two have for one another that I just loved so damn much and relate to even more.
Watching them work through their difficulties and differences just made me so happy.
Dylan stepped up so much after realizing what was happening.
And Jeanine also worked on things she needed to work on.

I could go on and on about everything I loved about this book and characters.
The ending was beautiful yet still real.
Couldn't get enough.

Thank you so much Dani for writing this and thank you and @sunnybabepr for the arc.

Ohio Rusties Hockey Series Book 1

Thank you Dani for once again fueling my Hockey Romance Addiction, and for having me on your ARC team!

This book was utter perfection! I have a real soft spot for a couples in books who are having marital problems it fills me with so many emotions, the angstyness of it all just gets to me in the best of ways.

I will admit to sitting on my sofa and crying as I overflowed with emotions last night and it was worth the crazy looks my husband gave me.

This journey follows the nearly decade long relationship of Dylan and Jeannie and with a bit of back and forth from the past to present day, it shows the start of their relationship as well as some poignant moments throughout their lives,
including some appearances from some side characters we know and love.

This was such an epic start to a new Hockey series and I cannot wait to see what comes next from the Rusties and I cannot wait for you all to read it! So head to preorder now and add it to your tbr!

ARC reader - I received this book as an ARC and I really enjoyed it. This is my third book by Dani and all 3 have been different. I love that she has a variety of books and they aren’t the same cookie cutter romance.

This book is not your typical romance and I think that’s why I was so eager to read it. This starts out with Dylan meeting Jeannie and it’s instant, he falls first, (but she’s not too far behind..aka same night haha) and they are inseparable.

They go through an earth shattering situation that no couple wants to walk through. This is where it gets real and we walk through it with them. We see the good, the bad, the spicy, and the ugly. We get to see what is normally “fade to black” parts in your typical romance books. We see them deal with real life situations head on and it’s not fluffed over to make it seem like life is puppies and rainbows. Sometimes it is but sometimes it’s also fighting and hashing things out.

I know we read books to escape real life, but this was refreshing to “peek behind the curtain” and read about some real life moments. Especially the mental health scenes. These are often glazed over and it was nice to see them dealt with and I felt some connection to Jeannie. Lots of people struggle with mental health and it’s great to see it represented in books!

Second Chance
Mental Health Rep

I love a good second chance romance, but this one was not for me. Both characters were toxic. It was very repetitive.

Jeanine complained about giving up everything for Dylan, but she would also make a counterpoint that she knew that's what she needed to do... She would get really angry and point out all things wrong but make no effort to correct.

Dylan did act like a child. He would decided something (like his mother visiting for a week) would fix an issue, but it was the furthest thing from a fix. He never really stood up for his wife in a way that would show he values her.

Neither was truly hearing the other, and I don't think even therapy could help. They were immature, and it felt like that's how it would always be.

I didn't feel any real chemistry between these 2. They were a lot of talk and then fall into bed whenever they had a chance. I don't think they even respect each other at the end of the day. They kept having the same argument and then fell into bed.

Unbreakable by Dani Galliaro is the first book in the Ohio Rusties Hockey Series. This is a Hockey Romance with Mental Health Rep, Marriage in Crisis, Fighting for Love, MCs in their 30's and Second Chance.

The book is written in dual POV from both Jeanine and Dylan's POV. This is not your typical romance but a more realistic romance. All the stress and strain a marriage goes through when faced with challenges such as moving to a new town, pregnancy loss and all the small things adding up. This was written so well, I felt all the emotions and Dylan is the husbands you want fighting for you. I love the hockey backdrop, the team found family and the cat and mouse smut scene. I was not a big fan of Jeanine but I was rooting for them.

Thank you Sunny Babe PR and Dani Galliaro for sending me this book in exchange for my honest review.

Unbreakable by @danigalliaroauthor released 11-01-24.

The tropes you will find are:
💍 marriage in crisis
💍 mental health rep
💍 hockey romance
💍 Older MC - in the 30s

I love the writing style and storytelling of @danigalliaroauthor

This may be my favorite book of hers because it just seemed more real than her others. This book was more relatable than her others. The struggles Jeanine goes through mentally were just so well written.

Sometimes we all need a good book that is more serious or at least I do. Unbreakable was something I needed to not feel alone in my struggles.

Thank you @danigalliaroauthor and @happilybookedpr for allowing me to read and review an ARC of Unbreakable

Dani Galliaro can get me invested in any type of book. This marriage in crisis had me ready for fight for their marriage too. Dylan is a hockey player who gets transferred from their comfort zone, to a new city and this forces his wife Jeanine to acclimatize. With the stress of a move, marriage changes, extended family stressors, and more, Jeanine is rightfully finding it difficult to find a home in their new city. Thankfully for us, the physical aspect is not an issue for this couple! Dylan and Jeanine aren’t afraid to seek help and work for what they both want. If you love marriage-in-crisis, and second chance romances, this one is so good!

I received an ARC of this book and it was very good and so relatable! Seeing a marriage that isn’t so perfect, even one with a famous and rich hockey player hubby, as well as family struggles and mental health struggles, too, was definitely something that readers can connect with. Dylan and Jeanine had a lot of ups and downs and some traumatic experiences, but the lovely thing was that, in the end, they always wanted to be together, even if that didn’t look quite traditional. Their love was steamy and real and soul deep, but seeing the work and perseverance and effort was beautiful. It was really nice to read! And great lessons on self advocacy and healthy expectations!

Dylan and Jeanine have been married for eight years and have three beautiful kids. When Dylan’s is suddenly traded to the Ohio Rusties their marriage and relationship hits some very rough patches. While they both try to keep afloat during this new transition, it’s hard. Jeanine, who has depression, is struggling more due to the change of environment, friends, and the lack of attention from her husband. She makes the hard decision to leave and gets some space from the feeling of drowning. Dylan realizes the severity of the situation and makes the decision to try to win her back. He makes a lot of changes and plans dates to show her he is listening and will do better for her and the kids.

I absolutely loved this arc. I can’t wait for y’all to be able to enjoy it too. As a stay at home mom i related so much with Jeannie’s inner thoughts about being the one doing it all and feeling unappreciated at times. I loved being able to read about her and Dylan’s relationship in the present time and how it came to be. They go through normal marriage struggles that we all have and never talk about. They started out with a epic twin flame romance that neither expected when they first got together. Dani is definitely one of my auto reader authors now.

I. Wasn’t. Ready.

This book is incredible.

One of the best things about reading is the escapism. But I love a book that tells a story about every day life. The heartbreak, joy, disappointment, excitement… everything we experience in our own lives, but with a hope and determination that is so heartwarming. Dylan and Jeanine’s story was relatable and beautiful, and so well done. The writing is seriously exceptional. The spice is delicious. I will think about this book for a long time. An absolute must read. Highly highly recommend.

I am not a pro hockey WAG at all, but Jeanine was such a relatable character. The struggles of motherhood, having an identity other than being a mother, carrying the mental load for everybody, and just not being seen or heard is something I feel like all mom’s struggle with at times but especially stay at home moms. Add a move basically across the country on top of that and it’s a recipe for disaster. Dylan isn’t a bad parent or husband, but he just can’t seem to see things from Jeanine’s POV.

I love that this book represented a variety of mental health struggles and also showed a couple who had been together for a while fighting to find their way back to each other. I really enjoyed this one a lot and I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series for sure!

**This book does address pregnancy loss so if that is a trigger for you I would tread carefully. I feel like it does address it in a very respectful way.

this was a gut wrenching HEA

I was in it from the IG blurbs, but this story was one for the books! If this doesn’t just resonate with you, don’t read this book, “we both struggled to advocate for ourselves. Twin flames strike again, I guess. We didn’t like to be needy, and we wanted our needs to be anticipated rather than stated. But that strategy landed us where we were. It might have worked for the brief period before we had kids, but once life got hectic, that wasn’t a sustainable method.”
Idk any relationship/friendship that can’t take away from this book! Amazing!

Dylan and jeannie had some Halloween fun 😉. While the kids were asleep.

Just the 1st chapter.

Dylan does the whole drinking and w*ed stuff.
Talking about how the two got together back in the days before dating, marrying and having kids.

'Wow. Get this guy a trophy. He can load a dishwasher'

The feels with this book where Dylan n J are having trouble with marriage but it gets worked out and going back and from the past to present is interesting as it's nice to see how they met and got to really knowing each other.

Alot went into this book and I got through it quite quickly. I liked it.

This romance book took me by surprise. It gave an in-depth look in marriage and how everything is not always sunshine and lollipops. I think the feelings the main characters feel are something every married person has felt before. We need help, we need attention, but most of all we need to be seen! This book also showed an all too real look at having a problematic in-law. The way Dyl's mom treats his wife and kids is atrocious! I was so proud of Dyl for standing up to up to her.

Ever since they moved, they have had marital struggles, and Dyl has to win his wife back before it's too late. This book has so many emotions goin throu it. This book is not what I expected it to be. It took me in another direction. It was a story about a couple whose marriage was in crisis, second chances, mental health and much more. It was a story of forgiveness and improvement.

It was raw.
It was deep.

It was heart wrenching at times yet whilst all that was going on, Dylan the MMC had so much hope, determination and fight. It was inspiring.

Jeanine holds the family together, she is the gel that doesn’t let any crack appear yet one day, she’s had enough and she takes a break. A break from her kids, a break from Dylan (her marriage), a break from it all.

What happens then? Who holds the family together? How does Dylan cope?

It was vulnerable and eye opening. It shows that it takes more than one person to keep the family together, to fight for what is right and to live your life as best you can whilst also taking other people - family included - into consideration.

I really enjoyed it. I would urge anyone who wants a cry, broken heart yet by the end to have pieced it back together to read this.

Thank you to @Sunnybabepr for having me on tour with you and sending me an e-ARC of this book. Thank you to Dani for writing such a gut-wrenching yet hope-filled book.
