Prague Saints and Heroes of the Charles Bridge: The Lives of Extraordinary People

Rate this book
This book came by way of inspiration to author Patricia Martin, who, following a trip to the Czech and Slovak Republics, considered a collection of biographies about historically significant Czechs and Slovaks. She was especially stirred to write about the lives of St. Wenceslaus and his grandmother, St. Ludmila, whose images are depicted among the statuary of 37 saints on the famed Charles Bridge in Prague. Through the lives of the saints celebrated on the bridge, the reader encounters the goodness and power of noble humanity while reliving the history of Middle Europe. The book is also about the history of the 600-year-old Charles Bridge, the main thoroughfare 100 years before Columbus discovered America. It celebrates the unforgettable beauty of Prague as testimony to the love of beauty by the Czech people.More than 30 statues of saints line the Charles Bridge in Prague, and each has a story to tell. This beautifully illustrated book has been in production more than five years and is sure to please.
