The first in a gripping new standalone mystery series featuring Anna Stone.
Country Estate PA, Anna Stone, 29, loves her job. But when a valuable necklace goes missing at a party, it’s clear that one of the people in that dining room is the thief. It doesn’t help that the pendant was around Anna’s neck at the time. She sees the way the villagers are looking at they’re closing ranks.
Dame Lilian Charleston is upset about a cousin who disappeared fifty years ago... And now Angela Bennett, the estate’s former housekeeper, has vanished, too—presumed dead. And where on earth does Marrakesh come into it?
In the small village of Rosewater, England, everybody has a secret. But, how far will they go to conceal it?
Anyone who enjoys a cozy mystery will love this book, for it is a well-crafted story with many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. When Dame Lillian and her PA, Anna Stone, host a party at Charleston Manor, Anna is honoured to wear a valuable necklace loaned by her employer. However, she is distraught when the necklace goes missing from around her neck, and inevitably, the guests and the villagers begin to eye her with suspicion. I enjoyed the witty relationship between Dame Lillian and Anna, and I was drawn to the enigmatic and mysterious Pike, to whom there was clearly more than met the eye. A delightful, easy read with the promise of more adventures to come.

Plot Twists Galore! - While Dame Lillian and Anna host a party at Charleston Manor, she disrupts an intruder only to find that the valuable necklace she was wearing has been stolen without her noticing. Deep shocking secrets are unravelled and tales of blackmail and deceit are unearthed. We are in for real mystery that has so many twists and turns it is will have your head spinning. This was a well crafted story with rich character development and great dialogue. I loved it from the very first page and was hooked right till the end.
Something a little different from Katherine Blacks usual thrillers. The Missing Heirloom is a wonderful cozy mystery, the perfect book to start the autumn months.
The story follows Anna Stone, PA to Dame Lillian of Charleston Manor. When Anna organises a dinner party to try and breathe some life back into the manor, her employer Dame Lillian lends her an extremely valuable necklace to wear for the occasion. When the necklace is stolen, they quickly realise that it must be one of the guests at the party. Thus begins a delightful mystery, full of twists and turns that kept me guessing, a great cast of characters (Dame Lillian being my favourite), a possible link to a relative who disappeared years ago, and a little romance thrown in, what’s not to love?
Overall an easy to read, yet really enjoyable mystery. I’ve already started book 2 - The Christmas Ghost because I fell in love with the characters and couldn’t wait for more!
I confess, I do enjoy a good cozy mystery and this one was a fun read with sufficient twists and turns to keep me happy. That and the characters - Lilian, and Pike especially. When a family heirloom goes missing at a party, the fun begins. The usual host of suspects are paraded and their backstories gently revealed, leading you up one garden path after another. Then, of course, after the investigation, comes the final dénouement and even more mystery is uncovered—not everyone is who they are. A very enjoyable and easy read—gentle on the mind and promises more fun in the sequels.
An intriguing, ‘who done it,’ written in an easy style.
When a valuable necklace, a precious family heirloom, goes missing at a party the story takes off with everyone present under suspicion for committing the deed. Accusations start to fly ruffling nerves and tempers as the police begin their investigations.
A well-crafted story with many a twist and turn to keep you guessing, interspersed with a dash of humour. An entertaining read to the last page in the book.
This mystery will keep you guessing to the end. There is more than one mystery to unravel here and as the plot unfolds you will find yourself in the centre of a web of lies. Each person in the village is connected in some way to what is happening, and the way the story comes together is magnificent.
I loved the book! It feels like you are reading about a time 50 years ago, but then there will be talk of podcasts, or the internet and you know it is current times. Very smooth writing and it keeps you engaged. I would definitely recommend! Thank you Sooz!
Excellent first book in this series! Loved this cozy mystery with all the plot twists. I already have the second book in my TBR pile and can't wait to read it.
