For the first time ever - get the whole trilogy in one book! In Book For some people it's a dream - bringing a child into the world, with someone you love. Starting a family and gearing yourself up for your Happy Ever After. For some people, it's something they have dreamed about since they were a little girl. But not Jessica, not even eighteen years of age yet, she doesn't feel ready. She doesn't want 9 Months of discomfort, and a baby at the end of it. She doesn't feel as though she's lived enough of her own life yet. Maybe one day, just not right now. It's just too bad her kidnapper seems hell-bent on keeping her and her baby alive. What do they want with her baby? What will happen to her after she's given birth? I guess, in 9 Months, she'll find out. Until then, she's in for the long haul... In Book Jessica is still trapped in a nightmare. Her captor refusing to let her go. Refusing to grant her the abortion she desperately seeks. But is motherhood really that bad, as her captor tries to make her see the light? Would a baby be the best thing to ever happen to her? With more twists and turns - follow the nightmare as it unfolds; told through the eyes of the people living the story. And in Book Jessica thought she was safe - nothing else could get her. She thought her nightmare was over and soon she'd be free from her shackles and the pregnancy. It was never going to be that easy, though, and soon she realised - by killing one monster - she had created one far worse than she could have ever imagined. Find out what happens in the final instalment of Matt Shaw's new horror trilogy, "9 Months"
MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.
Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.
Favourite books "Roald Dahl's Collection of Short Stories" Tim Burton's Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy Anything, really, written by himself. Because he is that good.
I really should have hated this book. There are editing misses galore, repeated scenes, and the entire thing is written like scattered thoughts...
But I thought it was brilliant and couldn't put it down.
The blurb pretty much lets you know what you're getting into. Jessica gets pregnant by her boyfriend, Darren. It's unplanned and she's not sure she's ready for such a big responsibility, but someone else takes that decision away from her.
This jumps from past memories to current scenes and has multiple POVs. Some of my favorite parts in this book are the transitions between the past and present. I thought they were brilliantly done, especially early on. The POV switches are a little less clean, but it's easy enough to tell who is speaking within a couple sentences.
Best of all, I didn't see the end coming. Love that.
Book - 1 Jesus! Didn't see that coming. Awesome read that was. Finishing the Book One make you more eager to continue read next...
Simple but suspenseful and a great book. Jessica 18 years old and accidentally somehow she became pregnant with her boyfriend Darren. Though it was unexpected for both of them as neither thought this would turn out in their life with huge responsibility. Jessica on the other hand didn't want the baby yet in her life but there's no value of her choice as she fully became aware she been prisoned in some kind of room. From that time she struggled to free but all in vein. The ending part was so surprising and best of this tale. Well never mind and no more talking (writing actually) but me going for the next round of this "9 months" book series, Cheers!!
Book - 2 Well this one quite a bit of boring experience for me to be honest. But of course it got the tensed situation like the Book One too though for me it was not ok enough...
Jessica in big trouble and she got to make a escape before everything gets out of her hand. Most importantly she needs her boyfriend Darren. But now that her Dad Bryan - (if he is her real father) and mom come into the action to take the situation to their own hands things getting more complicated than Jessica ever thought. So, now what about the baby? Should she keep it or get an abortion. At least she is determined about her pregnancy what she gonna do about the new life that growing inside her...
Going for the final book to know the answer, till than Cheers...
Book - 3 Can't argue the way that tale ended. For an instance I thought the tale would be different apart from the way it finished it's course. I even thought Darren Jessica's boyfriend would appear in any moment and save her. Though of course that's not the way the tale gone about. This time Fiona, Jessica's so called mother had the limelight of this final episode of book series. Not much to detail about this one but of course Jessica did try her best to let her own will win. What happened after that was something you should find out while reading it. Personally I expecting more and for Fiona I had nothing but pity feelings for her...
A great journey with this Matt Shaw book series. Going to read more...
This book was one of the best I've read! It took a minute to get used to the back and forth of today and how all came to be from the beginning. But once I got that ,it was a great story, with lots of twists and turns. The reveal of the kidnapper surprised me! I highly recommend this Trilogy to anyone into horror and suspense, you get it in spades. I will be reading more by Matt Shaw!
This book, scratch that, these books were so thrilling and suspenseful I couldn't put it down. There were so many editing mistakes though and I felt the further I got into the story the messier the POV changes became. I also HATED the scattered way this whole thing was written. If the story hadn't been so riveting I would have put it down.
For me, how much you will enjoy this really depends on if you have read the Peter Chronicles first. If you have, then it follows similar-ish themes (as you would expect), but you unfortunately don't get the same tension and deception between the captors and captive due to who is actually involved in the story - and you already know how it must end. There was also not enough distinction between the characters when writing from each persons point of view. As the writing regularly jumped between characters it does take a few sentences to figure out what has happened. Also, I have no idea why this was originally separated out as three books as this is clearly a single story and should be read as such.
If you have not read Happy Ever After and the Peter Chronicles, you will most likely enjoy it more. If you have read the Peter Chronicles, you will want to read this anyway.
I started reading this book and I couldn't put it down. Matt Shaw knows how to write a good story. I came across this after reading the short story Happily Ever After. It was part of his short story collection and I loved it. After reading it I noticed that Peter's story was part of a long series and 9 months was the beginning.
The main character is a young girl named Jessica, she has solid plans for her future and they don't involve a baby. So when she finds herself pregnant she wants to have an abortion, but someone is going to make sure that Jessica can't go through with it.....
I love this author because you never know which way he is going. He takes a great story line and builds up the suspense. Just when you think you have everything figured out he pulls a different rabbit out of the hat. I would give 5 stars but I'm not a fan of continuing short stories. I would rather read a good flowing novel with no cliff hanger and a good ending.
I enjoyed the way this switched from past to present and I also enjoyed the different view points. It didn't feel confusing or complicated. As for the story it was really good, sad and tragic.
