Sensitively written coming of age tale, where the friendship of two girls is tested when one learns the other is gay. Written almost two decades ago when this issue was far more controversial, this YA novel still works as a story where two best friends find their paths diverging while growing up and must find ways to keep their old connections alive. It was an interesting twist that the girl who is more dependent on the other is not the one I would have guessed it to be. Anyone who has faced the trauma of dealing with unforeseen changes in a cherished relationship will relate to this story.
