Does Unity Really Matter? When Jesus prayed, “Father, may they be brought to complete unity,” did He really expect to see His prayer answered in our communities?
The City-Wide Unity That God Blesses goes deep into the biblical imperative of unity to stretch your imagination for what is possible here and now.
This book will inspire you with real-life stories, problem-solving scenarios, and easily transferable principles that can propel the Church in your city to the next level.
God promises to pour out great blessing where He finds unity among His people. This book serves as a guide for how to see this happen in your community. Richard Long’s insight and passion for the city-wide Church will fill you with hope for the future and draw you into the vision God has for His Church.
Long desires to have a church community that extends across cities to promote the glory of God. He has an excellent desire and some great quotes. He also does a great job showing that unity for the sake of unity (and false unity) is not good. Yet there was a lot of particular distinctives from Pentecostal leaning theology that overwhelmed the drive in the book. Preaching Christ is good and I always encourage that. But the way we partner will take different forms in how we desire to work with one another. There is a far broader willingness to partner in Long than in my theological framework.
It was a good read, but I'm not sold on the premise.
Richard has done a great job of laying a theological foundation for why we need to walk in unity in our cities. Lots of practical examples of how that is happening in Ottawa, Hamilton and Toronto.
