Gemma Channing was devastated and filled with guilt as she buried her beloved grandmother, Marissa Sarrazin. Marissa had been more mother to her than her own mother, yet Gemma had left Coyote Wells and her gram for ten years – now it was too late to make amends. But she would continue the legacy of the Coyote Chocolate Company that her gram ran for forty years, doing her best to make the chocolates that the locals all loved, while living in the house she’d grown up in that her gram had left her.

With two women missing, Coyote Wells’ chief of police, and Gemma’s ex, Lando Bonner needed all the help he could get. There was rivalry between Lando and Zebediah Longhorn, police chief on the nearby reservation, but would they be able to put that aside to find the women? Confusion, secrets and strange happenings – but Gemma was determined to find answers, with or without Lando and Zeb.

Mystic Falls is the 1st in the Coyote Wells Mystery series by Vickie McKeehan and it looks like I have myself a new series! What a fabulous read! Well written characters and although a few of them, it was easy to keep track. Plenty of action, suspense and mystery laced with a little bit of magic made Mystic Falls a delight to read. I’m glad to see Ms McKeehan has at least 2 more in this series 😊Highly recommended.

Gemma’s grandmother died and left her the chocolate shop, so she’s back in Coyote Wells.

Landon, her ex, is now the police chief.

A small town, a missing woman…

Gemma feels Landon is not doing enough and is drawn into the investigation. She searches for answers at Mystic Falls, on the edge of the reservation, a special place her grandmother had shown her. She finds her destiny….and HOME. She had no idea her grandmother was psychic, but it made her feel better knowing..

I love a good cozy with fun characters, romance and denial, danger and murder, and a dash of the paranormal of the psychic kind. And I do like when I don’t have a clue who the villain is, just a lot of questions.

Mystic Falls is a story about broken hearts, lost love, second chances, and friendships, old and new. It is small town life at its finest. I quickly grew to love the characters and worry for their safety and happiness.

I can see this series is going to deal with each Native American spirit that will be helping Gemma develop her psychic abilities. I love the mix, paranormal, Native American mysticism, romance, and mystery.

Vicki McKeehan can pen a great story and I am looking froward to reading more about my new group of friends…in Shadow Canyon, Book II of A Coyote Wells Mystery series. The books stand alone.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Mystic Falls by Vickie McKeehan.

Lovely cosy mystery
Gemma loves her grandmother, but unfortunately the two women have a fallout and Gemma has not spoken with her for ten years. It is too late now as Gemma’s grandmother is no more and Gemma inherits her grandmother’s chocolate shop. Back to the town, Gemma finds herself looking at her ex – Lando, who is now the chief of Police.
With two missing women, Gemma can provide many clues as she knows the reservation area which her grandmother has shown her.
Quick cosy mystery read.

I wish I was more astute in breaking down the problems in this book. Basic story line was good, but...
I wanted to like the characters, but even the "nice" main characters had issues with not letting things go. Everything that is not in mutual agreement is bickered about. Some arguments are not worth the aggravation.
So much bickering. The circle of friends have to walk on eggshells because of the petty arguments over differences of opinion. They need to learn to "choose your battles", "let it go", or "agree to disagree". Very aggravating. They don't know when to keep mouth shut to keep the peace. I would not be in a relationship romantic or platonic that brings forth constant bickering.
Town folk relate how wonderful this small tourist town is, yet many of the characters are snooty, obnoxious, self centered, mean spirited, plus there's been 3 recent murders.
And finally, Gemma is running a chocolate shop, but yet she closes on the weekends (heeelllo? Tourists are your bread & butter). She also hires help within 3 weeks. She gives away a lot of product. She takes off at the drop of a hat to try to solve a murder and has let her help have bereavement leave, so the store is only open sometimes during the week.
Finished the book, because I wanted to learn who the murderer was and why, which was interesting. Will not be reading this author again.

Another great book by Vickie McKeehan! Now, I want chocolate and lots of it! If you have ever had a manipulating, controlling mother, you can seriously relate. Loved the big showdown scene with her mother. A fun mystery read.

I read many many mysteries and this is the first one I could not figure out The Who and why. Kept me on the edge of my seat.
Great writer and story teller.

I got the first book from Book Bub and the rest through KU. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. It takes place in a small Californian town in the northern part of the state where there is some reservation land. Zeb is the top cop on the rez and his family keep the old ways in a lot of ways. There are several special sacred areas on the reservation where the spirits still linger. Lando is the top cop in Coyote Wells. He's the oldest of triplet, Lando, Leia, and Luke. Yes, his mother was a Star Wars fan and wanted three names starting with L. Leia works at the best restaurant in town which her mother owns. And Luke is the doctor serving the reservation. Marissa owned the chocolate shop and was psychic. She helped people out in many ways. Now Marissa's dead and her granddaughter has returned to her house and shop. She also has her gift. Can Gemma help people the way Marissa did? Is her gift as strong as her grandmother's?
Gemma, the triplets, and Zeb all grew up running wild over these hills and beaches. They were best friends and more. Gemma doesn't know anything about her grandmother having any woo-woo powers. And she certainly doesn't have any powers herself. Does she? At 18, she and Lando eloped and not too long afterwards her mother convinced her to leave him, divorce him, and become a lawyer. So here she is in her mid-20s, with a chocolate shop, an ex she still loves, and visions. What's a girl to do? Read the Coyote Wells series and find out what Gemma Channing did. Recommended.

There’s nothing Gemma regrets more than letting her mother drag her away from her grandmother and home so many years ago. Now she’s back and staying put, keeping her grandmother’s beloved chocolate shop running after her passing and putting down roots again. She quickly becomes embroiled in the case of some disappearing girls.

Gemma is a delight and I loved the chemistry between her and her sexy ex-husband, Lando, now the town chief of police. I love second chance romance and these two are adorable. The Native American mysticism was an added bonus. I enjoyed learning, along with Gemma, about the psychic abilities both she and her grandmother shared and how each of the three spirits will help her use and grow her abilities.

Vickie cleverly and all too easily had me running in circles. one misdirection after another keeping me guessing until the last couple of chapters.

Did I enjoy this book? I sure did. All the ingredients I ask for in a cozy mystery and some delightful characters. Would I recommend this book? I do, very much so. And I’m already reading Shadow Canyon, the next book.

I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.

This was actually not bad it’s a different pace and the MFC was annoying at times, but overall while Gemma needs to grow up she’s learning. The mystery had so many twists, turns and red herrings!!!

This is the first in a series of five novels based on life in a small northern California beach town.
Coyote Wells was once a ghost town, abandoned when the timber ran out and re-inhabited by members of the Five Tribes of Native Americans from the reservations in the area, Natives who once called that area home. Coyote Wells has a three-block main street and has only the basic services offered.

Gemma Channing has recently inherited her grandmother's home, the home where she was raised in Coyote Wells and the Coyote Chocolate Company, a small shop downtown. Gemma quits her job as a corporate attorney at her stepfather's firm in San Francisco and moves back home much against the wishes of her mother. Within days she is back in the fold, back in touch with Leia, her best friend since second grade, and many of her high school friends are still around and glad to see her. She hates that she allowed her mother to dictate her post-high school life, and regrets the ten years she missed with her grandmother.

Her ex-husband Lando Bonner, the sweetheart she married at 18 and divorced at 19, is now the chief of police at Mystic Falls, and there is still a relationship there. One of a set of triplets, Lando is son and siblings to Genna's dearest friends. Whether or not any relationship with Lando is a good thing will be apparent only in time.

Time is something that Lando doesn't have much of. Normally quiet and a bit boring, there have been two young women who disappeared in the last few months, leaving behind purses and phones and money, and assumed dead. And Genna's grandmother's death looked at once again perhaps is a possible murder as well. Lando and the Reservation Chief of Police Zeb have their hands full. And all the women in Coyote Wells are in danger.

FYI - I live in a small desert town near New Mexico's reservations, and our foothills are full of 'Indian Wells', holes drilled into large flat rocks with harder rocks down about as far as an arm can reach. The holes collect water in our few showers of rain, and the stones keep it cool so it doesn't all evaporate. I am assuming Coyote Wells are derived from the same sensible water storage holders in this arid land. And down here we call that classic pick-up on the cover a five-window truck.

Gaining a backbone

A good read and a great start to a new series in which mysticism meets mystery. She has come back to the town she grew up in after the death of her Grandmother and against the wishes of her controlling mother. Maybe it will be difficult to see her ex-husband again but she is going to do it. When she finds out that her Grandmother was psychic and helped the police she is shocked. Then flabbergasted when she is asked to look into two women's disappearance and to have a deeper look into her Gran's death. Is she psychic, as her Gran thought. Help from an ancient shaman to awaken her gift and a dogged determination to seek the truth aid her when she feels that she is failing. Will she and her ex find out what really happened? A good plot with a nice, light touch but deep emotions. Good characters - strong but having depth.

I TOTALLY LOVE HER BOOKS!!

I am getting to the end of my journey with this author, as I have only 2 more books left of hers, that I haven't read. In a few words, her books are kind of awesome! Almost without noticing, you find yourself completely engaged and "inside" whatever story you are reading.

Like her other books and series, "Mystic Falls" has a paranormal element, although it isn't front and center. Where this author shines for me, is in her ability to create real people, with real lives including successes, failures, strengths and weaknesses.

Although I haven't read the other two books yet, I am quite willing to go out on a limb and say this is another great McKeehan series. I honestly wish I could reread them all for the first time.

Amazing

This new series is awesome . I love This author and how she works out the story with so much depth. Loved Lando and Gemma they had known each other their whole life then married young but due to circumstances and youth they divorced. Then years later Gamma comes back because her grandmother died and realizes this is where she should have always been. Catching up with friends and learning about new gifts and dealing with them. Plus Lando is still in town can they find their way back to beach other and find out what happens to get grandmother.

Great read and was a page turner.

Loved this mystery

I wish I could say I couldn't put this book down, but sometimes life gets in the way. I did enjoy reading about Native American history in general. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I hope the series continues on with Gemma's and Lando's second chance at love. Hopefully another book with Leia and Zeb's story as well as a book for Lianne and Luke, since they hit it off so well in this book. I wish I could find a place like Coyote Wells, I love that small town feel where everyone knows each other. Definitely recommend this book and this author. Great job, Vickie McKeehan! I can't wait to read more of your books.

Gemma was raised by her grandma and when Gemma found out she was murdered she went back to her hometown. When Gemma was young she married Lando who had Native American heritage. When she returned years after divorcing him he worked for the police. After 15 yrs. they still loved each other. Two more towns woman were murdered. Gemma found out later that her Grandma left her candy story and home to her. Rumors were Grandma had been like a psychic to many so Gemma started to investigate about it. Turns out she helped solve the murders. I had a hard time figuring out who the murder was until almost the last chapter.

Loved this book even more the 2nd time. Gemma is back in town after her grandmother dies after a nasty fall. She has to face her past, including her first love and ex husband, Landon. Landon is chief of police and has been having a hard time of it lately. Turns out 2 women are missing and no one knows where they went. And there is the fact that Gemma's grandmother was not frail, and did not leave her garage littered, how did she manage to fall over a rake and break her neck. No spoilers, the rest you have to read for yourself, but it is worth your time, your laughter and your tears, as these 2 people try to relearn how to deal with each other at Mystic Falls

Enjoyable

The writing is always detailed and easy to follow in VMcKeehan’s books, and this book was the same. We easily connected to the characters. There was a good bit of mystery and suspense. Though the crimes were slow to solve, we were constantly being given other details and other side stories to keep entertained. I’m not a big fan of paranormal, but there just a little bit of mysticism in the book. Just enough to make it interesting but also not make you roll your eyes. Quite an enjoyable read and I bought the next one.

Gemma & Lando were married and divorced at an early age in their lives.
Now she is home again. This time for her grandmothers funeral and to take over the running of her chocolate company and he is the Police Chief.

Gemma thinks there was foul play concerning her grandmothers death and Londo doesn't. Two other women have been murdered and Gemma starts looking into their deaths.
After butting heads a lot, they do work together to solve the mystery of who killed the two women and look into her grandmothers death at the same time.

I liked the book, but then, Vicki McKeehan wrote it. What can I say? I love her work and have read most every one of her books. I think she is an amazing author.

A young woman returns to the town where her grandmother lived. Unfortunately, it was in time for her grandmother's funeral. She then decides to take over the family candy shop in town and this would seem to work out if it weren't for her ex-husband who is now the police chief. When she realizes that her grandmother's death was not caused by a fall, but instead she was murdered, she finds herself in the middle of a mystery. In fact, two mysteries.

The Gift

It took Gemma a long time to understand the gift that just grandmother's knee she had when she was a child. Gemma realized her mom didn't love\like her at all and wanted to abort her but had her but gave her to her grandmother. It took her grandmother's death for Gemma to go home, start the chocolate company back up and realize that she still loved her ex husband. I will be reading more by this author.

Another winner for this author!

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book this author has published. I was very happy to learn Ms. Mckeehan had published this new book, which I believe is the first of a new trilogy!

With her well written dialogue and character introduction, I feel like a part of the Coyote Wells community! I really enjoyed learning about the new main character, too, and will enjoy following her as she develops her gift and her fancy chocolates!

This is the start to another wonderful series by author Vickie McKeehan. I love the Native American mystical element to this story.

Story pretty much had me at the chocolate store, because I'm all about chocolate. That said the characters quickly grab you, and they along with the descriptions of the area, will have you enthralled and reading on.

I would describe this as a mystery with some romance rather than a romance with some mystery

Nice combination of mystery and mysticisim

Interesting twist on a murder mystery. I enjoyed the tribal stories and descriptions of the wild areas. It was a little difficult keeping charaters seperated. Triplets all with names that start with an 'L' for example. Nice mix of romance and mystery. Thanks, enjoyed it.

Superb!

I'm giving this 4 stars only because I'm not sure two that were divorced 10 years ago would get back together so easily. Otherwise this is an easy read and I enjoyed it.
The author has written some colorful characters and made me want to live in this small town with its many Native Americans and others.

Wonderful = This book!

What I liked about this book is the characters were, or so it seemed, quite believable. This is 1 author who knows how to plot a story! The characters -believable. The settings also believable.
It's quite within the realm of possibility that what happens in this book could happen in 'real' life.

Enjoyed this Psychic Mystery

This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed this complex mystery. The characters are people that are relatable and a mix of old and new friends who become family. Together they solve 4 murders. With Gemma's newly found psychic ability get a few leads and solve a 30 yr old !missing person mystery. I am definitely going to continue this series!!
