The Wedding Forecast

Rate this book
Anna was never going to have an easy time at her best friend’s wedding. She’s the bridesmaid; her ex, Joel, is a groomsman. But she’s determined to get through the festivities with a smile on her face. Despite the fact that Joel is bringing his new partner, Bianca. Despite the fact she’s stuck sharing a house with the newly in-love couple. And despite the fact Anna has just turned thirty and her life is not exactly where she thought it would be by now. Anna has all her feelings completely under control—right up until the moment Joel drops a bombshell that rocks her to her core.

She needs a distraction, and Patrick, the wedding photographer, just might be the solution. Everyone has decided he is perfect for her. He is perfect for her. But the arrival of Mac, a not-quite-famous actor who has flown in from New York, complicates everything.

Much-loved YA author Nina Kenwood hits the spot with her first novel for adults. Laugh-out-loud funny with chemistry that jumps off the page, The Wedding Forecast will be the feel-good romcom of the summer.

Having enjoyed this author’s two previous YA romances I was eager to pick up her first adult novel in the same genre.

Why I loved The Wedding Forecast:

🩷It was fun, cute, light, and flirty, but also contained some tough, real, relatable issues and deep meaningful thoughts and conversations.

🧡It was hilariously funny. There were so many laugh out loud moments.

🩷There were two potential love interests – Mack (an actor as well as the groom’s oldest friend) and Patrick (the wedding photographer) and there was a lot of ambiguity regarding which man Anna was going to end up with until the last possible moment.

🧡Both romances had potential, but I was rooting for one couple over the other.

🩷I liked how the novel focused on other aspects of Anna’s life – work, friends, family, flatting, break-up, moving on and starting over, finding closure, re-inventing yourself, and doing what makes you happy.

🧡The single POV (Anna’s) worked for me, as this was Anna’s journey.

🩷I loved the mums.

The Wedding Forecast included some of my favourite settings:

🧡A wedding setting.

🩷An Australian setting.

🧡A New York setting.

🩷Both a bookshop setting, and Anna was an author of crime fiction.

🧡Some of it was set around Christmas.

It also included some of my favourite romantic tropes:

🩷Slow-burn romance.

🧡Forced proximity.

🩷Forced to share a bed.

🧡Toxic ex.

🩷Toxic exe’s pregnant new partner.

🧡Non-graphic, tasteful open-door romance.

The Wedding Forecast was a win for me so I would love it if Nina Kenwood were to write more contemporary romances for an adult market.

P.S. Who names a poor baby Birdie? I’m sorry, but no!

I instantly fell in love with "The Wedding Forecast".
💜❤️🩷💙

Yes, it was love at first sight.

And it was a love that never wavered.

Talented writer Nina Kenwood kept me gushing from beginning to end.

The writer's nonstop witty banter was endearing, LOL funny, and refreshingly authentic.

This intricately plotted rom-com was unpredictable and unputdownable.

I never wanted this 9.5-hour audiobook to end.

Narrator Maddy Withington gave an Oscar-worthy performance.

This was Australian author Nina Kenwood's first adult book and I hope she continues with this genre.

One of my besties of 2024.

5 shining stars.

'It's one of these millennial kind of books, you know, with the most annoying main character who goes on and on, and it has the most improbable series of events.'

'I'm familiar with them.'

a book that's painfully self-aware about itself. it's certainly a first for me.

while I was skeptical about this being her first adult romance, I definitely didn't expect it to turn out... this way. The thoughts overthought themselves, conversations dragged endlessly, the plot looped around like a snake chasing its own tail (sorry for that visual, I don't like it either 🙈), and I found myself trapped in this spiraling vortex of uneventful chaos where random stuff somehow kept happening anyway. It dragged... yet also somehow didn't? I'm genuinely at a loss here.

I don't even know how to articulate how baffled I am by my own disappointment while simultaneously not being entirely unentertained; just mildly dizzy and maybe a bit mad. Maybe I saw this coming from a mile away and that's the real tragedy. The main character, Anna: who is literally an author written by an author (because, of course) and gets genuinely sad seeing low goodreads ratings (the irony is not lost on me and I feel insanely guilty right now 😔🤚)— annoyed me to no end, yet I caught myself sympathizing with her quite often to my own bewilderment. And Mac... we're not even going there... too much to unpack. None of these characters felt like they had sufficient substance imo. The push and pull between them had me trapped in quicksand, and the tropes were painfully obvious. I'm not even making sense, am I?

however, all's not gray as it seems...having read all three of her books back-to-back in a ridiculously short span, I found her signature warmth, awkwardness, charm, and relatability still woven throughout (though it felt like she was trying to translate her ya voice into adult romance and got lost in translation somewhere idk?). The mums added a nice touch (lowkey funny too 🤭), and Hayley was an amazing best friend amidst all this... whatever this was. Though I wished her storyline (and Luke's) was explained explored more properly as she seems to exist purely for Anna's sake with no defined job or dreams beyond making Anna's life perfect. I did appreciate focusing on other aspects of Anna's life (but also not- 🫣), and the bookshop setting made things cozy (seriously makes me want to visit bookstores more often 😭).

what I'm trying to say is: it's aggressively mediocre. Not terrible, not great...just peak average romance territory, you know? Like romance without the "com," which I sorely missed from her YA stuff - where were the laugh-out-loud moments? or maybe I didn't get the humour. who knows. we got... 300+ pages for nothing 🤡 oh and well after everything we've been through, like an unwelcome ghost from the past, in strolls the most atrocious of tropes: the love triangle. Thanks for that.

p.s. Patrick deserved better - justice for him ✌🏻
p.p.s. who tf names a girl Birdie? I'm sorry, but no 😭😭

★★✯☆☆ · 2.5 stars

I got four hours sleep and it’s all Nina Kenwood’s fault! It was like I sank gently into the pages of this sweet sweet book about a writer named Anna who has to rebuild her life after heartbreak. It’s Kenwood’s first book for adults and is full of her signature humour, warmth and charm – but now with sex (and NYC)! Kenwood’s characters are always believable and people you hope to someday meet. Anna’s bestie Hayley’s speech to ‘the mothers’ about how they’re treating hottie actor Mac made me guffaw until it made me quietly sob. Anna finds herself working in a bookshop with an endless Tim Tam supply provided (where is this heaven) and it’s like Nina has written an ode to book retail with all its wonder and weirdness. Her first customer returns Anna’s debut novel saying she hated it and that reminded me of when one of my colleagues returned my book (awkward). Anyway, it’s all delightful and joyous and you’ll cheer for these impossible-lovers and stay up way too late delighting in their HEA.

The Wedding Forecast is the first adult novel by Australian author, Nina Kenwood. Anna and Hayley, daughters of best friends Wendy and Bobbi, have themselves been best friends almost their whole lives. Hayley is getting married to Luke, and sharing a house for the wedding weekend are Hayley and Luke, Anna, Luke’s New York actor friend, Mac, and Luke’s best man, Joel, who also happens to be Anna’s ex, with his new girlfriend, Bianca.

It’s been several months, Anna is pretty sure she can cope with Joel’s presence, even with Bianca’s, as long as there’s not too much interaction required. But then Joel drops a bombshell. “I thought I was over him. I thought I had all the armour I needed, that there was no bomb he could lob that would disarm me, I was totally ready for this weekend, but not only can Joel still hurt me, intentional or not, he can hurt me so badly, so sharp and fresh, it’s like a brand new pain.”

More than once during the weekend, Mac comes to her support after acrimonious exchanges with Joel leave her upset but, as attractive as his kindness makes him, surely there’s no future with a New York based actor who, she has been assured, always puts his career first?

Coincidentally, Anna’s soulmate, as predicted by Psychic Sue, might just be Patrick, the wedding photographer, a good-looking redhead, a potential relationship Anna is willing to explore, one that surely has to be a better bet than Mac.

What a delightful romcom! The characters are appealing for all their very human flaws, the plot takes a few unexpected turns before the predictable-but-welcome happy-ever-after, and the dialogue is often laugh-out-loud funny. This is Nina Kenwood’s best yet.

This book was absolutely brilliant.
Five stars for my new favourite Australian Romcom ♥

The Wedding Forecast is as much a book about romance and adulthood, as it is about the love of books, writing and bookstore appreciation. The storyline will have you up at 3am kicking your feet because it's so damn good. The characters are fantastic and I particularly love the way they weave in and out of each others lives.

P.S. Nina, have we met? have you read my diary? Because Anna is super relatable and you have perfectly captured the heart of a bookselling Melbournian.

2.5 maybe?
Nice to read a rom com set in Aus, but this book had a few too many of my romance pet peeves to be a winner. For one, it was too self-referential when it comes to the genre (on a side note, I'm starting to wonder if Emily Henry pays other romance authors to name-drop her in their books?). But worse, it had the classic "oh, I'm not willing to admit I have actual feeelings for this guy but we can get it on a few times just because we're attracted to each other and oh wait omg, what if I DO have feelings? 😱". Which personally, I think is just a lazy way for romance authors to give themselves permission to write intimate moments while still trying to maintain some will-they-wont-they tension. And it makes me mad, because I don't get any proper longing, and what am I reading a romance for if not for the longing? Anyway I digress, this book was fine in many other ways, I just got mad when they started kissing on like page 100.

I really enjoyed this book, we had:

x Wedding Meet-Cute
x Will they won't they
x Long Distance
x Writer x Actor
x Australia to NYC
x Strong Family and Friend Dynamics
x Ex-boyfriend presence
x Enemies? to lovers

All of these tropes made for a wonderfully put together story and I flew through the book. Anna and Mac were truly meant for each other and I loved how they navigated real-life issues with maturity and realism. We had many a one night stand, a down bad man who's not ready to give up on his dreams and plenty of chemistry.

It was an easy 5 star until the last 15% which was a shame. I really did love this story and these characters, which is why I'm so sad at how rushed the ending felt. For sure a HFN rather than a HEA

Thankyou to Head of Zeus for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book by Nina and I genuinely enjoyed it! Felt like an Aussie Emily Henry novel, with a touch of Abby Jimenez. A well written story that felt relatable and believable from start to finish. It’s refreshing to have something that’s simple and joyous in its formation to read, where the main character is self-aware and considerate, and yet still a healthy dose of slightly unhinged (aren’t we all?). I chuckled out loud in so many parts; loved the touches of Melbourne life too. I would have loved an epilogue, but I’m not deducting points for that. This would make a cute tv series à la ‘Colin from Accounts’ 👌🏼

I received this as an ARC through NetGalley and regrettably didn't get around to it until now. With it being the second last day of 2024 I decided it was time. I adored Nina Kenwood's previous works so it was no surprise that I love this too. Her novels make you kick your feet in excitement and laugh out loud and this was no exception. As someone who had a break up just before turning 30 with someone who didn't want children, Anna's story hit me quite personally - a sure fire way to get me hooked on a novel. If Nina has no fans I'm dead. She's up there with my faves, Emily Henry, Helen Hoang, Talia Hibbert. A trusted go-to author for me ❤️

WOW. I absolutely LOVED this. Realistically it’s probably a 4.5 but I am rounding up because 1. It’s Australian 2. It’s 2:45am because I simply HAD to finish it 3. I loved the ending.

The characters were so REAL and flawed and FUNNY. I just ugh I LOVED THIS!! I also usually don’t gravitate towards Australian settings but I adored it in this.

Anna was just so. real. It was so ROMANTIC. I also was laughing aloud at parts. Such a good read.

the wedding forecast was my first book by nina kenwood and it won’t be my last because i have already downloaded her other books after enjoying this one 👏🏻

this book was a very well executed and refreshing romcom and it was a truly lovely surprise for me because while reading this book i was completely immersed in the story while laughing and feeling a lot of different emotions :)

reading about anna and mac was such a pleasure and their chemistry was truly 🔛 🔝 they were flirty, they were vulnerable, they were adorable and well i was curios about how their story could have ended and it didn’t disappoint me ☺️

this book’s perfect if u are in the mood for something short n’ sweet (😁) but also refreshing because for me as i said before it was so unexpected to ending up reading this one in such a short time thanks to my curiosity because i needed to know how the story would develop and so if u are in the mood for a GOOD romcom just go for this one without thinking much because it will most likely surprise u trust me :)

a lot of thanks to netgalley and aria & aries team for sending me this lovely e-arc in exchange for my honest opinion!

Thank you Text Publishing for sending us a copy to read and review.
Plugged as a “feel good romcom”, The Wedding Forecast is this and so much more.
It’s also humorous, delightful, entertaining, emotional, romantic, witty and a whole lot of fun.
When Anna accepts to be a part of her best friend Hayley’s wedding, she didn’t count on the drama that came with it.
Her ex boyfriend is also invited, a psychic premonition is cast, the wedding photographer is cute and a slightly famous actor arrives.
Having just turned thirty, Anna is wondering where her life is going and with these complications, it could go anywhere……
A classic modern romance read with a bunch of mysterious entanglements.
Heartwarming, realistic and beautifully executed.
I was invested in the plot, the characters and the atmosphere and continued to flip the pages wanting a happy ending.
Ok so we know how it’s going to end but how we get there is the satisfaction of the reading process.
There’s ups and downs and hot and cold, a lot of drama and emotions and it’s all part of the experience.
An enjoyable lighthearted romcom and a super lively read.

WOW I mean WOW this book kept me hooked from the beginning to the end.

I have to admit I have never physically cried whilst reading a book, that was till now. The feelings this book made me feel, it was so real and I felt like I could fully relate to the FMC Anna, the detail that was put into her thoughts and feelings made her feel so relatable.

All of the characters had great details and I'm sure that every girl has a mum like Anna's or Bobbi! They kept making me giggle so hard

I can't talk about the book without talking about Mac... Oh. my. god. I couldn't deal with how much I adored him. He was so well written and I just fell for him from the beginning, the banter between him and Anna from the very beginning was hilarious.

I will be recommending this book to everyone that I know and Nina Kenwood you have me hooked!

I thoroughly enjoyed The Wedding Forecast and couldn’t put it down once I started. It’s a wonderful romantic comedy where it makes you feel warm and fuzzy and giddy with excitement.

Anna is our FMC and unfortunately for her she’s in the bridal party for her best friend’s wedding and so is her ex. It’s quite the event which had me giggling, upset and excited!

The romance, flirting and chemistry is on point and so much fun. An actor, a writer and a bookstore, what a perfect combination! I adored Mac so much, he was a delight! The mums made me laugh, the friendships were fabulous and the romance was gorgeous.

This book is also about life and what happens when things don’t go to plan. I loved how Anna dealt with this, and some of her changes in her life were mirroring mine so that was very relatable and encouraging!

All in all I loved this book, I wanted more at the end and could have read another 30 pages or so after the ending but it was still enough and I’m so happy!

Contemporary Romance / Romantic comedy
Narrated by Maddy Withington, length 9 hrs and 30 mins
Release date: 09-03-24

One 30-year-old whose life is not quite the dream she'd hoped for.
One best friend's wedding.
One ex and his new partner.
One slightly famous actor from New York.
One photographer called Patrick.
And a prediction that looks like it's about to come true...

This is one of those stories that is hard to put down. Anna is trying to keep her feelings completely under control and she don't want to ruin her BFF's wedding. But it can't be easy because her ex Joel will be also attending the wedding...with his new girlfriend!...also her mother who think it is time to get over Joel and start dating again. There are other characters who make her question her choices.

I really enjoy the banter and the chemistry, and it is easy to root for Anna although sometimes she could be quite annoying.

AU Review

‘This is the perfect summer read that I have recommended endlessly since it came out earlier this year. Nina Kenwood is so good at writing about the messiness of love (and life) in a genuinely funny and engaging way. Her adult debut is life-affirming and especially well-suited to anyone who loves bookshops, is going through a breakup, or needs a novel to hook them quickly.’
